Satelite 1905-S301 Recovery Disk problems

I've recently gotten a Satelite 1905-S301 that I wanted to take back to "out of box" so I ran the recovery disks 1 thru 3 of 3 and all was going well but on the 3rd disk it says it can't find/open file PREINS005.GHS (or close to that name from memory) every time and won't finish causing me to cancel out.  I searched the 3rd disk but didn't find the file, but it does have PREINS002.GHS.  I see the disk 2 has PREINS002, 003, 004 of the file.  So now I'm stuck in mid-install.  Could the recovery disk not have the correct file on it?  Shouldn't be a drive reading error since it completed the first two several times and the computer worked OK prior to resinstall.  Planning on abandoning the recovery and going to a new Windows install I have.  Thoughts?

Make sure the CD or DVD disk is clean with no smudges or scratches.  Even the slightest imperfection can cause the recovery process to crap out.  If cleaning the disk doesn't help try making a copy of it on another system.  Copying it will often times solve the problem as the copy process will continue to attempt to read the information from a disk where the recovery process will halt as soon as it sees the slightest glitch.  Make sure that you burn the copied disk at the slowest possible speed to ensure an optimum burn and be sure to use GOOD quality blank media.

  • New PC card doesn't fit satelite 1905-S301

I just ordered a new 4 x usb pc card to substitute for the two broken usb ports on the back.  The problem is that the new card will not fit into the pc card slot.  I use a netgear wireless pc card and it seems to have larger pin holes than the new usb pc card.  The satelite ahs 2 type II pc card slots and the new card is type II.  Did the pin sizes change in last 9 years, or did they manufacture the new card wrong?
I got the new card from newegg.com laptop acessories -> (guided search on left side) laptop add-on cards -> 4 x usb card -> look for koutech IO pcmcia card. I'm sending this one back.

  • Recovery Disk Problem - Receiving the correct disks.

Hardware: HP Envy Ultrabook 4-4043cl, 64 bit, OS Win 7
Problem:  Two months ago I had ordered and paid for the recovery disks for the above laptop computer. This order was made online.  Within five days, I received three disks which turned out to be the incorrect disks for my model of computer. Since then I have made four requests (phone calls) to HP Tech Support for appropriate disks. I supply the original order information and appropriate data about my laptop.  These requests take approximately twenty minutes to complete. Each time I have been told that the correct disks will be sent immediately.  However, I have yet to receive the recovery disks. During the last request, I asked for a confirmation number and a estimated date of delivery.  The support person stated that they do not supply that information.  However, the support person stated his supervisor would be informed and I would received a phone call from this supervisor. The call never came.
I have not been able to use my HP Envy for the last two months because of this problem. What must I do to get my recovery disks?

Sorry for walking you through steps you have already tried, that I was not aware of. It struck me odd that no Windows disk would boot and/or could see or read the hdd and I was hoping to get to a solution to that.
The fact that Recovery Disks state the drive  is unreadable is not the normal message you get when having wrong set..they usually give a message that the machine is not supported by the disks or something very similiar. I take it that you are still getting that message after prepping with Cyberlink utilty cd?
I have no immediate way of helping get another recovery set but have requested help from an internal source. You should be contacted via PM message here. To access your PM box you must be logged in and can then click the little  icon at top right of this page.
    Good luck!

  • Factory recovery disks problem

I failed to create a set of factory recovery disks on my computer. The software said "unable to find files for recovery media".
My Q: has 9.25GB files. It seems all the files are here. But I can't create the disks.
Is there anyone having the same problem?

Interesting...... I was just checking my system and the SYSTEM_DRV partition has no drive letter, but that may be due to the fact that I cloned the system to the SSD many months ago. I'm going to place my original HDD temporarily back into the unit to see about the labeling. I don't recall having any issue with burning the recovery media when the system was new. I'll post back with my findings.
Update: System_DRV has no drive letter either on the original HDD.

  • Recovery Disk Problems

    Hi guys,
I have ordered the recovery disk, and now I am trying to reinstall my system.
What I don't get is it is written on the envelope of the DVD, that "You will lose all the data on the hard disks".
And after starting the installation it asks again, if I am sure I want to start it, because I'll lose all my data.
So my question is, will it erase all my partitions??! Or it will format just partition C?
It would be absurd to have to copy 200GB of data from the other two partitions...!
Please tell me it won't delete the data from the other partitions!
    Thanks,

Even if somebody told me otherwise, I would always assume that the entire hard disk will be reconstructed.

+The following table defines all the currently supported DFT error codes. For example if during testing of your hard drive DFT reports a error code of 0x70 as shown on page 14, this indicates that your hard disk drive has problems reading one or more of its sectors. In most of these cases the drive can heal itself of these errors. To do this first back-up all your data from the problem drive ( if possible ) then run DFT again and select either the Erase Disk or Sector Repair option which is under the Utility heading. If you already have a backup of the data on the hard disk or the data isnt important you can opt to run Erase Disk/Sector Repair from the Test Result screen. Once the selected operation has completed you can then run one of the test options Quick or Advance to confirm that the drive has been healed. The result code, which should be displayed, is 0x00 if the test returns another code then you should check with your drive/system vendor if the drive can be return for warranty replacement.+

  • Recovery DIsk Problem

I am trying to format my a105 hard drive, so i insert the cd and reboot. while it powers up, i hold the 'c' key as the instructions tell me to do and the ram image loading bar comes up and it says press f6 for os options or whatever, then the screen goes blank except for the pointer, then the computer restarts and does the same thing all over again. it happens until i take out the cd. how can i format the hard drive?

    Which A105 do you have?
If I understand this, you pressed the "C" key once the first time you powered on.  It ran through some tings, went blank, then rebooted.  You didn't press the "C" key but it still did the ram image loading bar and the F6 key for OS options, etc?  Am I missing anything?  No other options or things displayed?
You could also try to hold down the F12 key right after powering on to get the boot menu.  Then select the CD to boot from.  If it reboots, don't select the "C" key or the F12 key.
Also you may want to check the disk on antoher computer and see if it can read all the files.  Maybe the issue is do to a read error.

  • Use HP Recovery disk for Win7 when using SSD in DV3-2350ed?

    Hi,
Does anyone know if I can replace my HDD with an SSD en still use the HP recovery disk? I've seen some problems with the one for windows Vista but never hear about the HP Recovery Disk problems to install on SSD.
My HDD will be places in a 2nd drive caddy in place of the optical drive.
And en new SSD will boot the system i Hope.
Does anyone have experience with this? I don't want to buy an expensive SSD if it won't work!!
    Best regards.
    Reef2009

Well as far as I know since the optical drive is SATA you can use the secondary Hard Disk.
For the SSD, take an image from the partition where the system is.
And restore it on SSD by using Windows Repair.
I'm not sure 100% but as a concept it's possible since there already people doing this method or vice versa.

  • Problem with HP G62 Recovery Disks

    Hello,
I am having a problem with restoring the operating system on an HP G-62 Notebook. When I first purchased the notebook I was unable to make the recovery disks, so I recently ordered some new ones from HP. Because I has installed Ubuntu on the notebook, I wiped it from the hard drive used Wipedrive to delete the old Ubuntu operating system I had installed.
The notebook reads the first disk ok and installs part of windows, but when the screen comes on asking for disk number two it freezes up and never installs anything when you try to move anything on that screen it wont do anything and it wont install the second disk. It just keeps saying 'please wait'.
    Thanks, Robert

    Hi, Robert:
I can't help you to get the recovery disks to work, but if you can read all 25 characters of the windows 7 product key on the bottom of your PC, you can make your own windows 7 installation disk to reinstall the operating system.
    Here's how:
If you can read the 25 character Microsoft windows 7 product key, you can download plain Windows 7 ISO files to burn to a DVD for the version of windows that came installed on your PC, and that is listed on the Microsoft COA sticker on your PC's case.
Burn the ISO using the Burn ISO option on your DVD burning program and burn at the slowest possible speed your program will allow. This will create a bootable DVD.
Or use the Windows 7 USB/DVD installation tool to compile the ISO file you download from Digital River. Link and instructions below. You need a 4 GB flash drive to use the USB method of compilation.
    http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msstore/html/pbPage.Help_Win7_usbdvd_dwnTool
Use the 25 character product key on the PC to activate the installation.
The key will activate either a 32 or 64 bit installation.
Then go to the PC's support and driver page to install the drivers you need.
Link to the W7 ISO file downloads is below.

  • FORGOT TO MAKE WINDOWS 8 RECOVERY DISKS AND UPDATED TO 8.1, FACING PROBLEMS NOW

I brought hp pavilion g6 2301 ax laptop in august last year. i bought it online. and i wasen't prompted to make any recovery disks.(later when i talked to hp executive he told me that the os warrenty is upto only 90 days)
i updated to windows 8.1 and i am having overheating and fan issues.. fan is making so noise and pc is over heated.
i was told to roll back to windows 8, and as i updated to 8.1 hp' executives are telling that i cant roll it back to windows 8.
they are telling me to purchace a new copy of windows 8.
i cant afford that now as i am under 3 years of hp warrenty.
    please help me.
    Spoiler (Highlight to read)

    Shubham_ringne,
I just tried a Windows "REFRESH" on my HP 13 Split x2 that came with Window 8 and was upgraded to 8.1 . After clicking REFRESH, Windows stated "Window 8.1 would have to be reinstalled after the Refresh". Additionally, Windows advised that some software, apps, and drivers would need to be reinstalled after the refresh. The Windows "REFRESH" returned the computer to Windows 8. Please see Refresh Your PC to Resolve Problems (Windows 8) to start the "REFRESH" process.
The HP Recovery partition should not have changed and should contain the original Windows 8 factory image. Once you have refreshed your computer and it is back to Windows 8, you be able to follow the instructions in Creating Recovery Discs or Saving a Recovery Image to a USB Flash Drive (Windows 8) to create you Windows 8 HP Recovery Media.

  • HP DV5 HDD crash - recovery disk not correctingg the problem

The HDD crashed on my DV5-1235dx and will not boot up past the system diagnostics screen. The recovery disks I created a week before the HDD crash are not correcting the problem. The current OS is Vista Home 64 bit, which was installed at the factory. I have no Vista OS disks to reload.
When using the recovery disk 1 on the crashed HDD, at the HP Recovery Manager prompt, I select format the HDD to recover data, then after the computer seaches the HDD for several minutes, I get an "Error 100" message (not connecting to wireless network). The wireless network on/off touch switch above the keyboard (top, right) is off and will not function as an on/off switch as before the HDD crash.
With a new Crucial 512Gb SSD installed and using the recovery disk , HP's recovery manager software give a 'files missing' message.
Apparently, Microsoft no longer offers a Vista Home 64 bit download even with a valid Product Key and, as far as I can tell, and HP no longer offers a recovery disk for the DV5 loaded with Vista Home 64 bit.
If anyone can offer a good solution for me to breath new life into my DV5 with the old HDD or preferably the new Crucial SSD, I would be very grateful.
Question:  Is it possible to purchase a Vista to Windows 7 upgrade and load Win 7 on the new SSD using the Vista product key number on the bottom of my laptop?
    Thanks in advance........

Have you tried performing a System Test just to check if there is a hardware issue?
    Thank you.

    Hi,
The drive on the link below is an example of one that would be fine for your notebook.
    500Gb Hard Drive
The procedure to replace the Hard Drive starts on Page 53 of your Maintenance & Service Guide.  As shown in the guide, you need to remove the caddy from your current HDD and attach it to the new one so that the drive locates correctly.
Once done, simply use your Recovery DVDs to reinstall the Operating System on the new drive - a guide on this can be seen Here.
