Satelite and Linksys

I see in the FAQ that Linksys routers do not work with satelite connections, yet I see questions with answers on the forum regarding satelite connections indicating it IS possible...so wanted to double-check before I made a purchase.
I have HughesNet...can I use a Linksys router...any specific model more suitable than another?  Why would I need an adapter?
Thanks for your help!

I don't think that linksys supports satellite usage but you can do it, All you need to do is take a cable from your modem and your set.
This router is pretty amazing its got a USB storage, its gigabit and is duel band.

  • Issues with Deskjet 5650 and Linksys wireless print server.

I have a iMac DP 1.8, a iMac G3 700 mhz running Tiger and a Toshiba laptop running XP and I am on a wireless network. I use a Linksys WRT54G router for the wireless and I am using a Linksys WPS54G wireless printserver to connect an HP Deskjet 5650 to the network. This was all working fine for the past 2 months until Monday evening when the Mac's lost connection to the printer. However the Toshiba can print to it just fine.
I cannot for the life of me figure out what happened. The iMac DP recently had a security update for intel installed this past Monday, but no updates have been installed on the G3 iMac. I have contacted Apple, HP and Linksys and they have been no help at all. Apple says it's a Linksys issue, Linksys says it's Apple issue and HP is just cluless. I would appreciate any assistance offered.
    Thanks

Paul, I am amazed you were ever able to print via the Linksys wireless server on your mac. I have the identical router and print server, and only the Windows PC's on my wireless network have been able to share the printer on that wireless server. I've been unable to find a driver for my iMac, and could never get the iMac to find the server. Finally gave up and bought an HP 2600n color laser and connected it directly to the iMac via USB. You're right about lack of help from Linksys. There is an Apple folder under "unsupported" on the print server installation CD, but there's nothing helpful in there.

  • Problems in Internet access in the middle being a modem and Linksys RV016

Good afternoon, I have another problem with Cisco Linksys RV016 Router, the router used to connect to ADSL Internet 3 links which these in turn give direct service to a server right now each of them, the idea is to connect the 3 modems LAN router and connect the server, this is no problem so far. The point is that here at my work people access to Remote Access Servers for Windows and VNC TightVNC or my servers with Linux (ask why not login at TeamViewer or LogMeIn, but it is another matter), the idea is to leave as they are, that everything is apparent and improve systems with load balancing (Router). The modem has ports open for remote access the 3389, are accessed without nigun problem, but when connecting the router and can not, I opened the same ports in Router and name and works.
Servers handle the no-ip.org for access and name resolution on DNS and so with that name assigned by the no-ip is where remote access from the Internet.
I do not know if you understand, but I hope someone help me with this.
In advance thank you very much and greetings.

Look, the first phase of my work to be done is to try a single server and it has Windows Server 2008, you explain:
    1. This ADSL modem connected directly to a single server (Windows).
    2. It is accessed without any problem by remotely from another network and / or from the Internet via remote access.
    3. The modem has port 3389 open to allow remote access from another network or Internet (up to here is my current scheme and there is no problem).
    4. Connect between the modem and Linksys RV016 router server.
    5. I open the same ports with the modem for remote access.
    6. If I have Internet server.
    7. Remote access is not working.
As time??? something can be done to solve this problem. The server as you mentioned earlier is running as a service no-ip.org for publication DNS name and not have to be constantly changing the IP by automatic changes made by the supplier (eg server name and for which so is taken from the internet: servidorwin.no-ip-org).
See if you explain me better.
    Thanks in advance and greetings.

  • Xbox 360 and Linksys E3000

    Hello,
I'm having quite some trouble with the new E3000 and my Xbox 360 Slim Model. I thought that the E3000 had like 4 antennas which should broaden the SSID Broadcast/Wifi Signal. Now when I try to scan for wireless networks on my Xbox360 it can't find the signal the E3000 is broadcasting. The E3000 is on the bottom floor and the 360 is on the first floor. Before this I had a WRT54G Linksys router and that one had no problem getting signal to the Xbox360. The E3000 shouldn't have this problem right, because it has more antennas. Another weird thing is that my laptop, which almost sits next to my 360, has no trouble at all finding the SSID/WiFi broadcast...
Does anyone know how to fix this problem? I just want to connect my E3000 to my Xbox 360.
PS: I have upgraded to the latest firmware.

Xbox 360 and Linksys E3000Bad news guys. Whatever you were told about the xbox 360 being compatible with wireless n at 5GHz was probably misleading. Please work through the following link: Work your way through this:- http://www.unofficialguidetolive.co.uk/faqs/114-troubleshooting-and-improving-wireless
Pay attention to the following, and I quote from the above link:
"...The Internal Wireless N Adapter for the Xbox 360 S 250GB
As well as all of the points above to consider you also need to be aware that some Wireless N routers can work at 2.4GHz and 5GHz or both. <<<<The new internal Wireless N adapter will only work at 2.4Ghz>>>> so ensure you have this enabled. It has also been found that in some cases it does not work with WEP and prefers WPA2-PSK (sometimes called Personal) with AES encryption (not TKIP) so in summary for the internal wireless adapter these configureations seem to work best-"
We could have saved everyone a lot of time if the XBOX 360 support would have just admitted this from the start. NO 5GHZ compatibility from XBOX Wireless N adapter.
If there is a way to upgrade the wireless N adapter in the XBOX please post for the rest of us.

  • I have a airport base station, will it work with netgear and linksys cards?

So I am at a hous ethat is using a low end netgear router to wirlessly serve about 4 computers. I am the only Mac in the house and suggested they a Airport Base, will their linksys and netgear wireless cards work with the airport Base or should they just upgrade to a high end linksys router?

    Hi Chris:
Yes, the AEBS is compatable with any 802.11 B/G cards including Netgear and Linksys cards.
I've used many of the wireless routers that are available (Netgear and Linksys) and recently upgraded to an AEBS. I've found you really get what you pay for. I've had little problems with the AEBS and cross compatiability.
    I hope this helps!

  • Successful DSL Setup With Westell 6100G and Linksys WRT54G Router

After a week of searching I finally figured out how to get DSL setup with my Linksys router.
All I could get out of the Westell > Linksys router configuration was DSL downloads limited to less than 0.2 Mbps.   No matter what I did on the router settings that was it.    I had a second eHome router that easily configured and achieved the 1.0 Mbps download speeds so that confirmed Verizon and the Westell modem were not the issue.
So what's wrong with the Linksys router configuration?    I had the Linksys WRT54G router Version 5.   Checking the firmware it was the original release of 1.0.0.   (See your routers instructions which can be downloaded from Linksys for how to check your firmware).   I downloaded the latest firmware version for this router model and version number.    Following the Linksys instructions I flashed the latest firmware 1.02.8.   Now I had an updated modem ready to be configured for DSL.
Assuming you already followed Verizons instructions to set the Westell modem to bridge mode setup your router to work with it.
Step 1: Go into the modem typing its address... Default 192.168.1.1   leave the ID blank and the default password is admin.
Step 2: Go to the Basic > Setup screen.
Step 3:  Select PPPoE and the screen menus will change
Step 4:  Enter your Verizon ID  (exclude @Verizon.net)
Step 5:  Enter your Verizon Password.
Step 6:  Go to the bottom of the screen and hit Save.   Wait and the router will indicate it was saved.
That's it.  All you need are the three entries above to get it working.   Turn off the PC, Router and Westell.   Turn on the Westell, then the router and then boot the PC.   It should work at this point.    I now get the full DSL speed for both downloads and uploads.
The bottom line....check you router, especially the older models for updated firmware before you give up on it.

Glad top see you found a configuration for your Westell and Linksys to function.  Thanks for posting resolution.

  • Verizon DSL, Westell 6100 Modem and Linksys router

If anyone is having a hard time getting these three to work together to get on-line, I know your pain. I've spent the better part of two days trying to get these devices to talk to each other. After hours spent trying different combinations and little to no help from Verizon and Linksys I have finally gotten my DSL up and running through my Linksys router. I post this in hopes that someone doesn't spin their wheels like I have been doing over the past few days. Here's what I did to get them to work:
    1. Reset both the Linksys router and the Westell modem
    2. Unplug the router and the modem
    3. Connect an ethernet cable from your Apple to the Westell modem and power it back on
    4. Type 192.168.1.1 in the address bar of your browser of choice. The username should be "admin" (w/o the quotes) and password should be "password" (again no quotes)
    5. It will ask you to update your username and password
    6. Under the CONFIGURATION heading select VC CONFIGURATION and click on EDIT
    7. Make sure that both PROTOCOL and MODE are set to BRIDGE
    8. Click on SET VC and then click OK when asked if you want to reset for new configuration to take affect
    9. Once again power off the modem for about a minute then power it back up
    10. Login again with the login you created above and go to the STATUS/ABOUT column and write down the MAC address
    11. Set it to DHCP OFF and change the Private Lan Modem IP to 192.168.2.1. Write this down and keep it so you can access your modem in the future.
    12. Save the settings. You will lose communication with the Westell at this point. Once again, power down the modem for about a minute.
    13. Connect the ethernet cable from the modem into the Internet port on the Linksys router and then connect your Apple to the first ethernet spot
    14. Turn on both the Linksys router and the Westell modem
    15. With your browser (Safari or Firefox) type in 192.168.1.1. Under SETUP go to MAC ADDRESS CLONE and enter the MAC address you wrote down for your Westell modem earlier and then save the settings
    16. Make sure you are in DHCP mode and not PPPoE
    17. Save, exit, and you should be on-line
That was a lot more difficult than it had to be. I certainly didn't get this from the support folks from Linksys or Verizon...a lot of trial and error and investigating on-line. I hope this saves you from the headaches I experienced.

    Feedback for Linksys:
In the Linksys Help system "Easy Answers" there's the question "How can I set up a Linksys router with DSL Internet?" This is what I used to try and solve my Internet connection problem.
The Answer says "Most DSL providers use Point-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet (PPPoE) ..." and goes on to explain how to set up the router for PPPoE. However, my service (AT&T/Yahoo high speed internet) uses DHCP. That meant I spent several frustrating hours trying to get it to work with PPPoE.
The Answer would have been better if it first explained how to tell if you have PPPoE or DHCP (see the reply from vness above, it's an excellent explanation), and then linked to the appropriate setup instructions.
    Thanks for the help!!!!

Why not launch a Apple satelite and offer Apple Tv.  Could also offer satelite cell phone.  Would be a real game changer.

Sure why not, and they can make their own lauch vehicles too and offer space rides for everyone.  I mean, if spending many, many 100's of billions to put satellites up there anyway, what is a few 100 billion more?
(Iridium has already gone backrupt once trying that scheme - now you think it would be great for Apple to throw bushels of dollars at the same il-fated enterprise?).

  • PIX 501 and Linksys VPN Router (WRV200)

I have inherited a job where we have a Cisco PIX 501 firewall at one site, and Linksys WRV200 VPN Router on two other
sites. I have been asked to connect these Linksys routers to the PIX firewall via VPN.
I believe the Linksys vpn routers can only connect via IPSec VPN, so i am looking for help on configuring the PIX 501 to allow the linksys to connect with the following parameters, if possible.
    Key Exchange Method: Auto (IKE)
    Encryption: Auto, 3DES, AES128, AES192, AES256
    Authentication: MD5
    Pre-Shared Key: xxx

    ISAKMP Key Lifetime: 28800
    IPSec Key Lifetime: 3600
On the PIX i have the PDM installed and i have tried using the VPN Wizard to no avail.
I chose the following settings when doing the VPN Wizard:
Type of VPN: Remote Access VPN
    Interface: Outside
Type of VPN Client Device used: Cisco VPN Client

I have attached the VPN log from the Linksys VPN Router.
This is the first time i've ever worked with PIX so i'm still trying to figure the thing out, but i'm confident with CCNA level networking.

    Hi again,
I believe the pix has a 3des license because of the following parts of the "show version"
    Licensed Features:
    Failover: Disabled

This PIX has a Restricted (R) license.
I've tried reconnecting the VPN tunnel with debugging on the PIX and get the output as shown in the attached file "vpndebug.txt"

  • Cisco and Linksys products mixed environment

    Hello All,
Before I ask my question, I would like to know if it's OK to ask questions regarding both Cisco and Linksys products in this forum, or if this forum is just for Cisco OR Linksys? I just want to make sure before I ask my question.
The devices we are talking about are UC520, Catalyst Express 520 Switch, and 2 Linksys SRW224P Switches.
    Thank you!

Thanks for your response, I can now describe my problem....
We are using the UC520 as a PBX System, VPN Server, and what-have-you. On the expansion port, we connected the CE520 Switch, and we have many phones, and some other devices connected to it. Now, on ports 5 and 6 of the UC520, we connected the 2 Linksys Switches we've had for a couple of years now. Anyway, on these switches we have a few computers connected, but what I am having problems is 8 IP Cameras (PVC2300 also by Linksys). What we wanted to do was to create a new VLAN (2) on the UC520 to house these IP Cameras (all of which have static IP addresses in the subnet 192.168.0.1/24). We need the office manager's laptop to be able to see the cameras, but this laptop is in VLAN 1 (192.168.10.1/24). I opened up at  case with TAC and they helped me create the VLAN and all this, and now they said it should all be working OK, except it's not, and they said it has to do with the Linksys switches (which they can't provide support for). I am not a networking wizard, I consider myself a very basic IT guy when it comes to this, so I am not sure what I'm supposed to do on the switches to have them communicate correctly with the UC520 and VLAN 1 and 2. Right now, the computers connected to the Linksys Switches are actually in VLAN 1, and can access the IP Phones Web GUI, so I don't know why this new VLAN is not visible by the Data VLAN.
I hope I am clear, and if you have any questions I will be glad to answer them.
    Thanks for any help provided!!
Our topology is something like this:
CE520 on Expansion port ------ Mostly phones and a few computers
                   |
                   |
    Internet---UC520 ----- SRW224P Switch on UC520 port 5 ------ IP Cameras and a bunch of computer/network devices

SRW224P Switch on UC520 port 6 -------- IP Cameras and a couple of computers

  • PS3 and linksys WRT54G. found a fix!!! please look

http://vibrantreality.wordpress.com/2007/10/27/ps3-and-linksys-wrt54g-the-solution/ not sure if it has been posted but it works!!! enjoy

Let me review my setup. I have a WRT54g Version2 Linksys Router. The Router firmware has been updated. I have two computers wired to the router and they work fine. I have a Linksys Media Center and a Laptop that work in a wireless environment and they work fine. The ISP is Comcast.
The PS3 is wired through a Linksys switch to the same Router. The switch is a Linksys Etherfast 10/100 8-Port Workgroup Switch EZXS88W ver 3.1. On the PS3 I have tried all the combinations of DNS that I can identify. The setting for MTU is at 1492 which matches the status shown on the Router screen. I have tried UpNp in both the Disabled and Enabled modes. I am currently using the DNS's that appear on the Status page of the Router.
On the Router I have set the IP address for the PS3 up as a static address in the DMZ as 192.168.1.2 UpNp is currently disabled. I have assigned ports to the static IP in the Gaming screen and enabled them..I have entered the DNS's numbers from the Status page on the Setup page for the Router as static IP DNS's.
If I connect the Laptop to the same wire that the PS3 is currently connected to, the laptop comes up fine on the Internet. The PS3 finds the IP address but continually gives me the DNS failed (80710102) error message. This is also true if I run the PS3 in a wireless environment.
    Your assistance is greaty appreciated.

  • Time Capsule and Linksys Router Issues

The internet cable is connected to the WAN port and the Time Capsule is connected is to one of the ports of the Linksys router. I can successfully backup my MacPro and use the internet for Mail and Safari.
I want to take advantage of the high speed ethernet performance of Time Capsule. However, I don't know if the Time Capsule is really faster than my Linksys router.  Where do I get this information? I suspect the Time Capsule is much faster because I just purchased the Time Capsule. The router is at least 5 years old.
In spite my concern about the speeds of the Time Capsule and Linksys router, I tried to attach the Time capsule as recommended by Apple for a  "first time set up." It failed. The Time Capsule using the AirPort Utility cannot make a network connection. I reestablished the devices as given in paragraph one. WiFi runs again.

Ethernet speed on your local network is determined by the slowest connected device which most likely will be the LinkSys router or your computer.

  • Verizon dsl and linksys have same ip address

i have verizon dsl ip address 192.168.1.1 and a linksys router wrt54gs and i cant get the two hooked up together.i was told to go to the linksys page by typing 192.168.1.1 but it takes me to verizon.what do ii do and how can i get my dsl moden set up wireless withe the linksys.ive called verizon and linksys and spent hrs on the phone and they cant figure it out.any help would be great.thanks.

The back of your router will have ports where you can plugs cables into, just make sure your tower cable is connected to a regular port. the regular ports will be close together whereas the wan port (where you connect the dsl modem to is alone).
So....you should have your tower connected to a regular port and the dsl modem cable is not connected to your modem.
Hold the one of Windows key down ( the Windows logo key located to the left and right of the ALT keys) and hit the R key. A small window will pop up.
    Type cmd then click Ok
A dos window will open, type Ipconfig /all and hit enter
Look for Default Gateway and tell me what the IP address is.
Also tell me what the IP Adress is.
What I'm looking for here is, your IP address and the routers address (Default Gateway)

  • Brand New iMac and Linksys WAG54G v2 - WEP but not WPA

    Hi All
    I have a brand new iMac and a Linksys WAG54G v2 wireless network hub;
I have set up the network with no encryption and everything works
I have set up the network with WEP encryption and everything works
I have set up the network with WPA encryption and everything works (PCs and printers) except my new iMac.
Occasionally it works (1 in 50) but mostly it fails with the message "There was an error joining the AirPort network "<name of SSID>".
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to troubleshoot/fix this?

I'm guessing my failures might be due to one of two problems; inability to find the router or connection timeouts; does anyone know how to monitor/snoop this connection and/or fix this problem?
