Satelitte A60-202 after bad BIOS update PC doesn't work

Hi
After one very bad update of my BIOS, my PC doesn't work and doesn't switch on.
What to do now ?
It's Toshiba Satellite A60-202 with 512Mb memory and 40Gb of HD.
type PSA60E-OLP06TFR model SA60-202
Thanks
Yves

HI Yves,
Unfortunately, if the BIOS update procedure did not work (or complete correctly), then it is likely that the existing BIOS in the CMOS chip had been corrupted and without this you will not be able to boot up your notebook to correct the problem.
It will be necessary to take (or send) your notebook to an authorised Service Agent to have the BIOS reflashed.

  • IBook G4 won't load after latest security update, repair doesn't work?

Hi I had the same problem as someone else in this forum:
"Last night I saw that my ibook G4 wanted to do a security update. I told it to do it, and the ibook has not started since. It reset itself after downloaded, but it just stays on the booting up screen, never actually booting up so I can use it. After about two hours of trying to boot up, I turned it off, and on again, and it still wont boot.
I really need suggestions as how I can fix it. Thanks

    HI,
Ok... you need to boot from your install disk.
Insert Installer disk and Restart, holding down the "C" key until grey Apple appears.
Go to Installer menu (Panther and earlier) or Utilities menu (Tiger and later) and launch Disk Utility.
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel.
Select First Aid in the Main panel.
(Check S.M.A.R.T Status of HDD at the bottom of right panel. It should say: Verified)
Click Repair Disk on the bottom right.
If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports disk is repaired.
If you cannot boot from your install disk, try booting in Safe Mode
Resolve startup issues and perform disk maintenance with Disk Utility and fsck
If you have the original hard drive in this iBook, it was probably a 60GB drive? When you can do this, check to see how much available disk space there is.
Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon on your Desktop, then click: Get Info. In the Get Info window, click the discovery triangle so it's facing down. You will see; Capacity and Available Make sure you have 10% available disk space, 15% is better. Not enough available drive space can cause issues like you are experiencing.
    Carolyn "
I tried restarting it after the repair (there were some things to repair and I tried to repair twice just to make sure it didn't miss anything) but it still won't load. It says its starting the OX system, but when the blue bar reaches the end, it doesn't do anything from there. I also left it on for hours and it did nothing. My mousepad still lets me move around the mouse, the caps lock key still lights up, as the num lock key. I tried safe mode but that won't load either...any other suggestions?

Your iBook needs to go in for repairs.

  • Fail to boot (short-short-short-long beep code) after M92p BIOS Update

    Hi,
I recently updated my BIOS to the latest version using the System Update tool from Lenovo. For a while everything seemed to be working alright, as the BIOS was dowloaded and the computer rebooted. After rebooting the first time i was presented with the BIOS utility, and noticed that the update was progressing.
After 20 or so seconds the computer rebooted again. This is where my problems began. The computer immediately started beeping this short-short-short-long melody from the speakers. I thought this was normal, so I left the computer on for quite a while.
However, the beeping never stopped. Now the beeping resumed the instant i plug the power back in. I have yet been able to actually getting any sort of information on-screen telling me what's wrong.
I've tried following the "Recovering from a POST/BIOS update failure" on page 267 of the Hardware Maintenance Manual, but no luck with that so far. No matter where I place the jumper, the beeping code is the same short-short-short-long melody (yeah, it sounds like a disney tune or something).
Any bright ideas? The machine type is a M92p 2992-B3G
I'd hate to have to send it in for repairs, and Lenovo's Norwegian support line doesn't open until Monday, and there seems to be no way to call their 800-number in the states from here
Oh, and would this be covered by my warranty if repairs / motherboard replacement is the only way out?
    UPDATE #1:
    I found this in the manual;
3 short beeps and then 1 long beep DRAM memory
    error
Perform the following actions in order.
    1. Make sure the memory module(s) are properly seated
    in the connector(s).
    2. Replace the memory module(s).
    3. Replace the system board.
This is pretty much Lenovo's way of saying "You're screwed", isn't it?
    UPDATE #2:
    I've now tried pretty much everything;
The solution as proposed on page 267 in the Hardware Maintenance Manual
Unplugging all cables and harddrives before booting
Removing my PCIe video card and PCI Wireless NIC before booting
Removing all memory modules, and trying 1 and 1 module
Moved a memory module from another machine that I know is working
    No luck so far.
Ideas would be welcome at this point

I'm glad to hear it's just a simple memory error, however the original problem in this post is a bit more than just a memory problem.
This became a problem after a BIOS update, so somewhere along the way one of Lenovo's developer screwed up badly, and it's been bugging me ever since. There's absolutely no way for me to use any PCI-e card with my M92p.
I've tried 6 different cards, 3-4 different memory module combinaties, with our without harddrives plugged in, and every thinkable combination of these.
No luck. Therefore, I simply conclude that Lenovo are dicks, and we all know what dicks enjoy doing; **bleep**ing people over.
I've given up on the issue, and I'll never buy a Lenovo again after this.

  • Satelite P300 does not boot after failed Bios update

    Hi everyone,
I have tried to update the bios of a P300 using this :
    18/03/10
    BIOS Update
    Toshiba Windows 7 - 32 Bit 4.20-WIN32 World Wide
Which I downloaded from here: http://uk.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/download_drivers_bios.jsp?service=UK after entering my laptops specifications.
The flash process hanged during the update and the laptop became unbootable, blank screen when powering on and nothing else...
I tried using the Phoenix Emergency Crisis application, created a floppy disk with the Bios image file that I have earlier downloaded but managed nothing.
The USB floppy driver access the floppy when entering the recovery mode, I hear some beeps that indicate that a process takes places, but when everything stops and reboot...the problem remains.
-Has anyone got a clue what to do next?
-Is the warranty void after a bios update attempt?
    Thank you for yor time.

    Hi buddy,
You should check the forum content or with other words, use the forum search firstly before you ask something. Failed BIOS update is not unusual and can happen always. The forum contains already a lot threads about this and the only solution is contacting an ASP. The guys have professional tools to recover it.

  • Booting BIOS from USB doesn't work (890FXA-GD70)

    Hi all,
in case of BIOS crash, recent MSI motherboards should be able to boot using a BIOS provided from an USB pendrive. I have tested this function by calling it directly by BIOS option, but it fails after BIOS is loaded getting a blank screen (debug code: 09) or the monitor off (debug code: 31). Does any of you know whether the problem is fixable or any hints? Is it working to you?
    890FXA-GD70 (either BIOS 1.0 and 1.6)
Verbarim Store'n' go 4GB USB pendrive (tested with FAT32, FAT16 formats, partitions smaller, bigger... nothing)
BIOS save function doesn't work as well. Some bytes are different comparing the saved file to original one.

it's probably m-flash issue, what's current bios version installed?
Yes, you can say: "Flash your BIOS to the last version released some days ago, and retry", but that is the last chance for clear reasons. The problem hasn't been fixed flashing from 1.0 to 1.6, and I guess likely this code with the bug is in non flashable part of BIOS.
I wonder whether Boot 2nd BIOS from USB Drive (or Backup BIOS to USB Drive) is working for someone, it looks impossible it is entirely broken...

  • Ts update progam doesn''t work.

my ts update progam doesn''t work. it seems be be missing. The messsage I get is that the program doesn't exist after I get an alert saying the TS Update isn't working.  Where do i donwload the program? Its an HP TouchSmart 600, windows 7 64bit

Per my previous note, the model number is HP TouchSmart 600 and I'm on Windows 7.   This is NOT an upgrade scenario.
When I purchased and began using the machine, it went through a rountine software update check just after start up.   For some reason, now when I start up the machine, it attempts up look for softward updates and then pops up a message alerting me to the fact that the TS update is not working. When I attempt to diagnose why, the message I get is that the TS update program is not there.
So, i think that I just need to install the auto-update program again????? Not sure.

  • Toshiba won't boot after Toshiba BIOS update

My Satellite P755 would not boot immediately after I did the updates that the Toshiba update software recommended I do.  It still would not boot after going through the entire recovery process.  At this point I'm thinking it must be a hardware failure so I called toshiba.
They told me it would be $49.99 for telephone tech support to fix the issue but that would be refunded if it was determined to be a hardware issue.  The tech had me unplug the power, remove the battery and hold the power button down for 30 seconds (apparently this must remove the incorrect bios update or something).  After putting the battery back and plugging back in the recovery process worked and it now boots again.
I'm happy this worked but a little frustrated that I paid $49.99 to fix an issue that was not caused by me, it was caused by the Toshiba update software suggesting and installing an incorrect BIOS update, which was confirmed by the technician that I spoke with.  After talking to a rep and a supervisor I was denied a refund.  I've lost time, money, and data over this issue.
The tech also told me I should call Toshiba anytime I update software to make sure it will work with my computer, even if it's an update recommended by the Toshiba update software.

Thanks to the original poster. I bought a laptop and I did the Bio update.  I had an issue on my old laptop and i took out the power supply and that worked.
Now with this one after the update it would not turn on or do anything. I could not get to the bios or nothing as it was dead for the most part. It would trun on for a few seconds and I panicked as this is a lot of money to spend of a dead computer.
I have limited income and I was beside myself. I thought after taking the battery out and putting it back it continued to do it that it was dead.  I picked me up and did a search on the web and eventually found this thread.  I did what the oriingal poster did. I think leaving the battery out so it resets is the primary issue. I did both the on button in case. Yeah I know it don't make sense but I did it.
It is now working. It booted up and I am playing a CD in it.
My other laptop basically in direcly was stolen. Well not quite. I loaned it to my son and the car he had it in got impounded. I had my info on it so it could be returned but it was never retruned.  I would like it back as it was realiable but it had the same issue to turn on at one point. Battery taken out fixed it.
I don't think I am going to do any more bios updates on it.  I hope there is no more of them.  I am not sure if it will shut off and power up right but since it is working now for the last five minutes It is ok. I am playing a CD on it.
thanks to the poster of this thread.  You save me and my laptop. I love it.
I did read bad reviews of it as well as good.  It is companies are doing anything to make a profit.  It is why I stand for the resource based economy where planned obsolence will be history.
    HUGS TO YOU GUYS.

    Hi all,
after installing the most recent BIOS update via ThinkVantage System Update, the DVI port in my T410s does not work anymore. Nvidia and Intel display drivers are in place, and I also checked the BIOS settings, but to no avail. It appears that the DVI port is no longer recognised by the system at all.

Hi there, I need some help!!!
just recieved laptop, tested all ok with Vista business and everything works fine.
Now i have a requirement to test a build for a duel boot XP laptop and followed the enclosed instructions for changing the BIOS to enable me to install XP.
Re-started the laptop with the bios disk, selected the XP bios and all seems ok.
The phone rings, i answer. When i finish I look back at laptop and screen is white.
Leave it for 20 mins still white. Turn off laptop and restart, no tosh splash screen, nothing.
Now will not boot, so what do i need to do to get this thing working again???

    Hi buddy...
That looks very bad! :( it look like something went wrong during the BIOS update procedure and therefore the notebook cannot boot correctly.
Hopefully only the ROM module must be flashed again.
This can be done only by an authorized service provider!
I don't see any other solution as to contact the ASP in your country and to ask for the help and further handling.
    Good luck and best regards

  • Boot Fail after latest BIOS Update on Flex 2-15D

    Hi everyone,
I have a severe problem (I guess) after the latest BIOS Update. Windows 7 freezes during startup.
I own a 64-bit Lenovo FLex 2 15D with AMD A6-6310 and R4, 4GB RAM and a SSHD (8GBSSH). I purchased it without OS and installed Windows 7 - which worked fine so far.
I yesterday updated the BIOS with version 9FCN23WW (for Win7 and Win8), the latest BIOS update. A mistake, it seems.
After Reboot, I first had to disable Secure Boot in the BIOS, because it would not let me boot at all. I figured out how to get into the BIOS-Setup to disable this (press Enter 2x, press Tab when in the Boot Menu to access the "Apps Menu", then "SETUP" - just in case this helps someone).
Now Win7 begins to start up, but freezes during the startup process (the splash screen with the win flag freezes and looks a bit strange. I used the "protected mode" Windows Startup and saw that the process always hangs when loading "amdkmpfd.sys".
That is basically it.I guess I have to find a way to re-install the previous version of the BIOS, but I have no idea how!
    Any idea?!
Now about what I did to fix this (poor, but I tried):
If I try to start from a Win7 installation CD-ROM (actually it is one for Dell PCs, but I guess that is not the problem) and press a key to boot from CD, Windows loads files, shows "Starting Windows"  and at a certain point again just freezes. When I -do not- press a key, WIndows Boot Manager shows up and mentions that "Windows failed to start (etc.)" "File: \EFI\Microsoft\Boot\BCD" "An Error occurred while attempting to read the boot configuration data."
I can't even boot into Linux on a USB stick, because the Windows "Error Recovery" (translated from German, sorry - my guess) won't let me when I try (just offers to boot to Win7 in protected mode - it could be that it fails immediately and jumps back to Win Startup).
Thank you for every bit of help!
    Tristam
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I found our the solution to my problem with the help of SebastianLenovo ...
In the BIOS / Boot Mode, I switched back from "UEFI" to "Legacy". That's it. That simple. The BIOS Upgrade routine just did not transfer that setting from the old BIOS to the new.
Given the fact that 1. I did not change that setting, so it is default and 2. it would have been easy to avoid, if the BIOS update routine would be well programmed to transfer the current BIOS settings to the new, upgraded BIOS ...
Anyway a strange situation that a 64-bit system has a 32-bit BIOS. Actually no Linux distribution (except FatDog and rescue systems) are able to deal with it - Linux only running as a Virtual Machine under Windows. I think this is inappropriate and really taking away a part of the fun if you can not run this laptop as a dual boot system.
Thanks to Sebastian and I hope this solution helps someone in the future...
    Regards, Tristam.

  • Audio doesn't work after a BIOS update + strange beeps during bootup

    Hi,
I just bought a MSI motherboard,  915P Neo 2 platinum.
    1.
Everytime I boot up the system, I hear a set of beeps...it sounds like 1 long, 2 short beeps...so I followed the instructions and re-seated the memory and it still does beeping.
    2.
MY MAJOR PROBLEM RIGHT NOW IS
I did a BIOS update using MSI LIVE UPDATE 3 and after that the sound doesn't work.  I check for "unknown PCI devices" under WinXP but there are none.  I re-installed the azalia driver again from the originial driver cdrom and still no luck.
I hope someone can tell me what is happening here and help me to fix it
    thanks a lot in advance
    regards,
    Kittu

    Hi,
    Thanks for the quick reply.
I also did some updates along with BIOS.
    I am listing them below.
I installed the following updates which the "Live update 3" reported as applicated to my system
    MS-7028 v1.50
    Intel INF Update v6.2.1.1001
    VIA SATA&IDE RAID Drivers v5.1.2600.410
After this, I noticed the sound was not working so I re-installed the azalia bus driver and still the sound didn't work.  So, I checked the bios and changed the value of the audio-mode from AC97 to Azalia.  Then, again re-installed the azalia driver but the sound still doesn't work.
How do I re-install the CMedia audio driver ?
How do I clear the CMOS ?
    thanks,
    Kittu
