Satellite 105 - Won't recognize the CD/dvd drive

The door lite comes on but it will not play anything in the cd drive. Could it be locked somehow?

Hi Chris,
First, try the automated fixit from Microsoft on the link below.
Vista
Check if the drive is now working.
If it still doesn't work, click the Start Menu, open All Programs, open Accessories, right click the Command Prompt and select 'Run as Administrator'.  In to the prompt type the following command and hit enter.
sfc /scannow                 ( note that there is a space between sfc and the / )
Let the process complete, then type exit and hit enter.
Next, click the Start Menu, open the Control Panel and click on Device Manager.  Next click to open DVD/CD-ROM Drives.  Right click the drive and select uninstall.  Do not delete drivers if asked.  When the device has uninstalled click on the 'Scan for Hardware Changes' icon ( usually just below Help on the toolbar ).  Let windows reinstall the drive and see if it now works.

  • All of a sudden my notebook won't recognize the cd/dvd drive.

Just today my cd/dvd drive isn't being recognized. My notebook is HP Pavillion dv6244us, witth Vista Home Premium. The cd/dvd drive is a factory installed one with LightScribe. Under Device Manager there is a yellow ! next to the name. When I double click this it says the following in  the device status box: "Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)" I would appreciate any help that you can give.

  • Satellite A100 does not recognize new CD/DVD drive

I purchased a new CD/DVD drive for my four year old Toshiba Satellite A-100 as the old one went crazy and did not want to work.
Unfortunately I bought a Toshiba Portege A100 DVD/ CD-RW Combo Drive which is not exactly what I had before hopping that it will work anyway.
Unfortunately I got surprised because it does not recognize the CD/DVD drive at all :/..
It seems to work and the light is flashing so I believe that it is not broken.
I just plugged it in as that's the way I was told to do it.
Do I have to download drivers to make it run?
Will it work on my laptop or is it a "newer" CD drive which will not cooperate with my laptop?
I would appreciate any help. Thx

    Hi
I think I agree with Jimi. For me it sounds like that your CD/DVD drive isnt compatible with the notebook. Note: Not all drives are compatible to all notebooks.
Normally the best option would be if you check the user manual before you buy a CD/DVD drive. On the first pages you can find a list of compatibles drives they were pretested from Toshiba in this notebook. So these drives should definitively work.
Alternative you can contact the ASP as Jimi said. They also sell compatible drives.
And by the way, here you can search for the nearest ASP:

  • ILife  o6  won't  recognize the external DVD?

IDVD (iLife 06) will not recognize the firewire external burner that operates on Toast Titanium 6. I am trying to make DVD slide shows. My internal drive is is not a superdrive.
    Any idea's?

    Any idea's?
    1) Use "Save as Disk Image" and burn with Toast. That's my standard operating procedure even with my internal drive.
    2) Try restarting and opening iDVD without using Toast first. Check the System Profiler and report what it says about your optical drive. Tell us what make and model too.
    3) Check w/the manufacturer of the drive too.

  • HP pavilion dv9910us which operates on vista no longer recognizes the cd/dvd drive.

It is almost 4 yrs old and after runnin some disk defrags and disk cleanups I noticed a few weeks later when I went to play a cd that it didn't start like it normally would.  I went into the computer panel and it doesn't even show up.  Also, my screen started going crazy about this time where sometimes it would show color in every other verticle line so reading the screen was almost impossible.  Today the screen seems to be back to normal, at least for the last 2 hrs it has been working.   Any ideas?

Doublechecking ... did you have CD/DVD drive tests checked when you ran those diagnostics? (I'm not seeing the CD/DVD test results down the bottom of the results where I'd expect to see them.)

  • V Cast Media Manager won't recognize the Fascinate/device driver not downloading(available)

I have installed V Cast media manager to my desktop system.  When I connect my Fascinate, the computer recognizes that "new hardware" is found, but can't locate the driver so it will connect with VCastMM.
Has anyone else experienced this yet?
Is there an easy fix to this?
I did set the USB to sync with media player and that still didn't work.

click on the usb icon on the top of the screen and it should allow you access your phone on ur computer! you dont actually need to use media manager. just open it up as if it were a flash drive.

  • MacBook Air won't recognize iOmega External Hard Drive

I just bought my macbook air and I wanted to transfer my data over from my old MacBook. The MacBook died so I was using my backup. The problem is that the Air won't recognize the ext hard drive. I connected the ext hard drive to my AirPort Extreme for the migration assistant but I keep getting a connection failed message. I tried plugging in the drive to the air directly using USB but it won't recognize it at all. The drive won't mount. The drive begins spinning and the light is on so the drive does work. It always worked with my old MacBook. I did alway connect it with FireWire so could that cause a problem since I have to connect it with USB to the Air?

I had a similar issue with mine but it was because I tried to connect to an external drive that was already connected to my iMac via FW800. When I disconnected the FW cable and plugged in the USB, everything worked perfectly.

  • Upgrade won't recognize the hard disk to begin the installation

Powerbook G4 w/ 9.2.2 & the original CD for OS X 10.1 - thought I'd get it on and upgrade from there since I know I'll need to buy more RAM - existing is 385 & I only have 10 G on the system. I downloaded several updates, ran the security update first. The 10.1.1 update won't recognize the hard disk to begin the installation.Thought I had a clue, but stuck in the jungle upgrading. Which one is which - is Jaguar 10.2??? Do I need to be doing each of these upgrades to get it running well until I add the RAM? I'm trying to stay calm since it updated my IE and I think I lost everything I had on it - too fast with the click and assumed they were separate entities....(unless there is a genius out there who can help on that front too)
    many thanks... Kate

Hi Kate! And Welcome To Discussions!
You're lucky Kappy is helping you out with this. He is one of the more knowledgable posters here!
I'm just adding some extra info.
There are two PowerBook models that need a Firmware Update, before you can install a newer OS X.
Check if one of them is yours.
Mac OS X Versions 10.1, 10.2, 10.3, and 10.4, are complete system upgrades that must be purchased.
The point upgrades, such as 10.1.x to 10.1.5 (Final) 10.2.x to 10.2.8 (Final), 10.3.x to 10.3.9 (Final), and 10.4.x to 10.4.6 (Pending), can be downloaded for free.
Tiger is available for purchase at The Apple Store (U.S.).
Jaguar and Panther, are no longer available directly from the Apple Online Store, as Tiger 10.4.x is the most up to date OS.
Jaguar Full Retail Version CDs, a Full Retail Version, of the Panther Install CDs, or a Full Retail Version of the Tiger Install DVD, can be purchased rather inexpensively, at some online Apple retailers, Amazon, eBay, AppleRescue, etc.
Be sure not to purchase grey, upgrade or machine specific CDs or DVDs.
Jaguar and Panther are only on CDs, not DVDs.
More info here Tip: Using OS X Install CDs/DVDs On Multiple Macs
Once Jaguar 10.2.x is installed, you can use the 10.2.8 combo update,
or if Panther 10.3.x is installed, you can use the 10.3.9 Combo Update, to upgrade to the final edition of either OS.
If your Mac meets the System Requirements for Tiger, you could also consider installing that.
And then use the 10.4.6 Combo Update.
You'll find System Requirements in these links:
    Panther
    Tiger
    Additionally,
"Tiger ships on a DVD, but if your Mac doesn’t have a built-in DVD-ROM player, you’ll need CD media. When you buy Mac OS X Tiger, you qualify to purchase Tiger CDs for only $9.95."

  • Macbook Pro won't recognize windows vista dvd

    Hi everyone,
I just bought Leopard and a new copy of Windows Vista Home Premium to install on my Macbook Pro. Leopard installed fine. Had some issues partitioning (had to get the right size b/c of unmovable files). Anyway, i made a 27gb partition to install my Vista. However, when I put my install dvd into the drive, it spins, makes a funny noise, then asks for the install dvd. After it spins the dvd some more, it spits it out. It doesn't seem to recognize the install dvd. I've put the Vista dvd into my PC and it runs fine. I would greatly appreciate any and all suggestions.
    Thank you.

I have exactly the same issue as you with mac not recognising the Vista Home Premium DVD either in Bootcamp or in the Finder. The applecare people were completely clueless and the guys at the "Genius" bar in the apple store were less than impressive and were insisting that it was a faulty DVD. Since i had tested it on various PCs and it worked fine, i knew it wasn't that. After 30 minutes of arguing they finally agreed to replace my DVD drive which unfortunately didn't help either. I have now ordered alternative media from Microsoft in the form of CDs for the cost of postage and will try that when they arrive and let you know. This is a problem that i'm seeing in various forums all over the place and is clearly some bizzare issue with Mac software or hardware which Apple refuses to acknowledge exists. P.S, don't bother re-creating the DVD as i tried copying the image to a USB drive on a PC and then burning it onto a blank DVD via the Mac. Although this allows the finder to mount the new DVD, Bootcamp still won't recognise the disc as a valid installer disc. More soon...

  • My old mac and 3g won't recognize my iphone4s - and the new itunes on my pc won't recognize the 3g

Hi, I'm having issues syncing my information from two separate computers to my new phone.
I backed up my old iPhone 3g on my iBookG4. The G4 does not support the iPhone 4s because it's too old and I cannot update to Lion or Leopard because it's too old.
I have a Dell that I bought in 2009 (i know i know, it was cheap and i had to get it for a class i was taking) - anywho, I have downloaded the new version of iTunes for the iPhone 4s and this version of iTunes won't recognize the 3g - I'm guessing because it is so outdated.
So, I can't get the old computer to read the new phone or the new computer to read the old phone.
What I attempted was home sharing with iTunes and that got all my music and apps, but contacts and calendars I can't move.
    Any suggestions??
    thanks.
ps this mac is so old that the letter a just popped off the keyboard

Syncing of devices running iOS4 and higher requires iTunes 9.x and higher.
iOS 4.3 and higher requires iTunes 10.x or higher.
Regardless, iTunes 9.x and 10.x require Windows XP Service Pack 3.
Is your Windows system current with all Windows updates?

  • Satellite M30x + Win7 : DVD's not detected by the CD/DVD drive

    Hi,
    I'm using a M30x since 2004 with its CD/DVD drive Mat****a DVD-RAM UJ-831 S.
When I was using Windows XP, I never had problems to read or write on CD, CD-R, DVD, DVD-R or DVD-RW. But recently i have installed windows seven, and since this day the drive doesn't want to recognize DVD's. I still can read and burn CD's and CD-R's. I'm trying to burn the same blank DVD-+/R/RW as before but the drive don't want to detect them. The ones I already have burn aren't detected either.
My computer say that the CD/DVD drive work correctly and that the drivers are updated.
I have tried to clean the lens but nothing have changed. And I wanted to reinstall the drivers but I couldn't found them for windows seven.
    Thanks for the help.

At first I must say that this old notebook is definitely not designed and not supported for Win7 so if Win7 works well you are really lucky guy. Win7 s not supported and drivers dont exist so dont spent your time searching them on the net.
I dont know if described issue has anything to do with Win7 or not but fact is that lens position for CD medias and DVD medias is different and, generally speaking, when there is problem with reading one of these medias it can be problem with lens calibration what means optical disc drive is defective.
You can test it one more time if you install WXP recovery image and check if this will work again.
Other way I don't think there is anything you can do about it.
BTW: which burning application do you use?

  • Iphone was in the middle of an update, and an error occurred. I think it is stuck in "restore" mode, but my computer won't recognize the device. How do I get it to work?

My iPhone 4S was in the middle of the latest software update while connected to iTunes on my PC. After it took 45 minutes to download, a pop-up came up and said that an error had occured and it couldn't be updated. I made a mistake and clicked "Okay" instead of "More Information", and now my PC won't recognize the device and connect it back to iTunes. This happened to me last time I updated it, but I've tried everything I did last time and it won't work. I have a feeling I didn't have enough storage on my phone to update it, but now I am stuck and don't know what to do. My phone is frozen with the iTunes logo and the USB drive and says to connect to iTunes. What can I do to fix it?

If this has happened more than once the problem is likely on your PC.

i tried to get the installation disc for the camcorder but mac wont' recognize it becaue it is windows based i guess.
i just bought the camcorder a few months ago and when my computer crashed thought i'm finally getting a mac...it's been a costly venture which has resulted in more frustration than before my pc.
now the things i want to use with my mac that i thought would be even simpler...are not even useable...
    help

That camera shoots H.264 in an .avi wrapper.
You will have to transfer the files via the Finder.
Get a free copy of MPEG Streamclip and convert them to QuickTime .mov using the H.264 codec if you are presumably editing in iMovie.
Note that your list of video codecs won't look like mine as I have Final Cut Pro, but H.264 is definitely an option for you.
