Satellite 1605cds: RAM not reported in Windows 2000

Hello
I have a 2nd hand Toshiba Satellite 1605cds/4.3 (an amd k6-2 450 mhz based system).
It has 32 MB of ram on board, and a so-dimm slot to put in a memory of 128 MB.
But I have read this webpage:
http://fandelem.com/toshiba2.html
where it says that it can be upgraded with a 256 MB memory module!!
I have plugged it and it shows correctly 288 MB (32 MB on board + 256 MB on the slot) in the bios.
When I boot from the Windows 98 SE partition, it shows the 288 amount of ram.
...but when I boot to the Windows 2000 Professional partition, it shows a blue screen saying that the bios is not an enhanced ACPI bios. It says that I have to push F7 key during the installation of Windows 2000 to disable ACPI and install HAL.
But If I remove the 256 MB slot, Windows 2000 boots correctly without any problem.
I have tried re-installing Windows 2000 pushing the F7 key during the installation, but then Windows 2000 only shows the 32 MB of on board ram.
So, what can I do to run Windows 2000 and the 256 MB module??
The bios is the latest that can be download in toshiba web page.
Thanks for all and sorry for my english.

Hi
According to your description W2k says to update the HAL (Hardware Abstraction Layer). In Windows 2000 there are several ways to troubleshoot issues related to the Hardware Abstraction Layer (HAL) that may occur as a result of misdetection, an outdated or non-compliant Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) Basic Input/Output System (BIOS), or an incorrectly or manually installed computer type.
For further information please check this Microsoft support site:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/237556
But as I know Toshiba support only the 128MB on this unit and if you want to use more ram you can do it on your own risk!

  • Satellite 2770 - Display driver problems with Windows 2000

    Hello,
I've a Toshiba Satellite 2770 and installed Windows 2000 on it. If I'm not wrong the S2770 does have a S3 Savage IX/MV graphic card and I downloaded the Windows 2000 driver from the S3 website but it wont be recognized by the hardware detection.
Then I tried the Windows 95SE driver from the Toshiba website, but Windows 2000 wont acept it due it's not suitable for Windows 2000 as it seems.
What to do? Isnt there a Windows 2000 driver out there which works? I dont want to work in 640x480 and 16 colors forever!

    Hello
You are absolutely right. Your unit has S3 Savage IX8 graphic card but problem is that your unit is delivered with WinME operating system. That means that there is no support for other operating systems. All drivers are designed for each notebook model and OS separately. The only way to solve this problem is to install the driver given by graphic card producer. If this not works you have a big problem.
Sorry but I really dont know what you can do. Maybe you can try to install the driver designed for Sat 2750. There is the same graphic card but driver is designed for Win98SE.

  • Labview 2009 .exe not working with windows 2000

I created a simple vi with Labview 2009 to reset a counter in registry key. I changed it to an exe. The program runs fine on any machine with XP but it does not work on the machine I need it on which is running Windows 2000 SP4. I installed the 2009 runtime but I continue to get an error when it starts up saying the vi is not executable and that I need the full development to fix the errors. But like I said it works every where else. I've tried other exe wrote in LV2009 on this machine and they work. Is there something in my vi that is not compatible with Windows 2000?
    Thanks

  • AC97 onboard sound DOES NOT WORK under Windows 2000

Just an FYI, the AC97 Audio on your MSI mainboard will not work under Windows 2000, for which the AC97 hardware is not certified. If you try to use it, your audio output will be intermittant at best and will crash your audio applications at worst. A maddening and disheartening problem for people like me who didn't realize the problem existed and spent many hours trying to getting it to go away.

    hiya -
I am have this trouble as well!
Are you useing professional, or Advaced server?
I have done EVERY kind of update... so dice.

  • 10 G installation does not start on Windows 2000 SP 4

    Machine configuration:
    Pentium 4 2.8 GHz
    496 MB RAM
    120 GB HDD
The temp folder log shows that all installer requirements are met.
Still the OUI window does not show up. Any ideas?

    Hi Viking
First things first. Here are some things to consider:
    1. If using Windows 2000, you need to be using Windows 2000 Professional with SP4.
    2. You should not have any other Oracle software running during this install.
    3. You also not have ORACLE_HOME, TNS_ADMIN or any of the other Oracle environment variables set.
    4. You need to be a local administrator on the machine.
    5. You should not have a firewall enabled.
    6. You need to have a fully qualified domain name (FQDN) set for the machine.
    7. The FQDN should be set in the HOSTS file which you can find in c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc
    8. You need to check the certification matrix for 10.1.3.2.0 and make sure it is available for Windows 2000 and that there are no other prerequisites?
    Does any of this help?
    Regards
    Michael

Can anyone help me, I'd really like to try this software out.
    Thanks,

    David,
Can you try passing in the 1.5 VM location manually as listed below
    WorkshopInstaller.exe LAX_VM d:\bea\9server\jdk150_04\bin\java.exe
Can you also make sure that the 1.5 JVM value entry is the first entry in the PATH environment variable.
    cheers

  • Nano not recognized by Windows 2000

When i plug in my nano it needs driver files for the device... as far as i know these files are not on the included CD and all of the apple support on the website was unable to fix my problem. Can someone please explain how to get my computer to recognize my nano. Also i have windows 2000 and all of the XP solutions i have seen have not worked for me.

    Hey,
I google.ca'ed your error message and brought up this discussion board:
    http://www.billpalmer.net/ipodgarage/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=60612&sid=1da54d3c45 6559b34b29f7d1e4512986
They seem to have found a fix on that site, I would suggest following their solutions.
Also do you know what service pack your running on your computer? Is is SP4?
    Thanks,
    Ms D.

  • Oracle BI Suite 10.1.3.2.0 does not install on Windows 2000

    hi all,
I downloaded the two zip files from Oracle site and extracted on d:\biee.
    I launched the setup.exe program under d:\orabiee\Windows\Server\Oracle_Business_Intelligence.
I specified the Complete installation and after creating the OracleBI folder, the installation hungs without any message.
I checked out the install.log file and I found this entry:
    STACK_TRACE: 7
    com.installshield.util.ProcessExecException: CreateProcess: C:\orabiee\OracleBI\oc4j_bi\bin\oc4j.cmd -start error=3
         at com.installshield.util.ProcessExec.executeProcess(ProcessExec.java:180)

         at com.siebel.analytics.install.ExecWizardActionCustom.run(ExecWizardActionCustom.java:79)
         at java.lang.Thread.run(Unknown Source)
As a matter of fact, the C:\orabiee\OracleBI\oc4j_bi\bin folder does not exist (and, of course neither the oc4j.cmd program).
    Is there any path/workaround?
    Thanx in advance
    Viking

    Regards
    Michael

  • PCI-6014 not recognized by Windows 2000

I recently purchased and just installed a PCI-6014 in a new Dell Optiplex running Windows 2000 (sp2, we have stayed at sp2 due to problems we have had with sp3, sp4). On this same machine I have LabVIEW 7.0 with all the bells, including NI-DAQ 7.0. When I put the pci card in for the first time (and every one of many times I have restarted since) I NEVER have seen the "new hardware found" message come up. That's bad sign one. And the hardware device manager doesn't see it either (I think that would follow from no new hardware being detected..) Then I have run MAX 3.0 (also on the machine) and all it finds is this bizarre thing called "PXI System" under devices and interfaces. I also have an eight port serial card in this machine which MAX does see. I eventually removed both the Serial card and the PCI-6014 (daq card) and even after a restart the "PXI system" device or whatever STILL shows up under devices and interfaces... So I just don't know what that is?? Any help there would be appreciated.. So question one is what is "PXI system" likely referring to?? ..And to say more about it when you click the plus sign next to the "PXI system" entry it shows what appears to be a VISA resource name of PXIO::MEMACC. But again that shows up even with the card removed.
Back to the PCI card seemingly not being recognized I also read somewhere that there could be issues with this card and the new version of NI-DAQ 7.0. So I uninstalled that version from the machine and put on the version that came with the PCI card, NI-DAQ 6.9.3. But same story... Windows doesn't see it and unless this PXI system is somehow referring to this PCI card (??) then MAX doesn't seem to be seeing it either... Any advice on how to get this card up and running or how to truly troubleshoot to see if the card was dead out of the box?? ...Something I have never had happen before and somehow I still think it is just some silliness on my part...
Lastly, when I looked for the documentation for this card amont the long, long list of daq boards listed in the NI-DAQ software, nowhere did I find an entry for this PCI-6014 card. And I looked carefully. Does that mean I have a horribly old or outdated card??
Any help would be appreciated... thanks...

I am glad to hear that you got your card recognized correctly, too bad you have some bad PCI slots, though. The entry is shown by default and cannot be removed, but if you were to ever have a PXI chassis attached, your cards would be listed under this option, it is also where you would configure your controller and your chassis type. Also by default, there are no entries under this heading since you are not connected to a PXI system.

  • Ipod not working in Windows 2000

I have a mac at home. I've already synced my ipod and don't want to lose anything on it.
When I try to use the ipod as a usb drive at work with windows 2000, it recognizes the ipod. However, when I try to accsses the drive it says its not formatted and asks if I want to reformat it. I don't want to reformat because then I'll lose everything.
Can I use the ipod as a usb drive on windows 2000 without reformatting?

Never mind. I found XPlay and It works great!

  • LabVIEW program will not run on Windows 2000

I need to run parts of a LabVIEW program on a PC which does not contain all the hardware required to run the full version. This used to work on Windows 95/98 but on Windows 2000 I get error message 'Capabilty not supported. VI was stopped at node 0x1BC of subvi "Out Port.vi"'. This program is very large and full of references of this type, is there an easy way around this problem?

    Hi,
I might be barking up the wrong tree here, but Windows 2000 is built on top of the architecture of Windows NT. Win NT/2000 treats direct memory access differently to Win95/98.
Have a look at the following link and see if that helps - unfortunately it involves re-writing (well, re-linking) the .vi's that are calling the out port.vi. The link is in reference to writing to the parallel port through direct memory access, but the .vi's are based on writing to any memory location.

  • Oracle Universal Installer will not load on Window 2000

I cannot load the Oracle Universall Installer on a new
Dell computer with pre-loaded Windows 2000 software. The setup.exe program will not execute. Any suggestions?

Thank you, I thought the problem was specific to Windows 2000,
but it Pentium 4 processors. Here is a reply I found from
Nick Chernick. We will try it out as soon as possible.
    1. Create a temporary directory on your server.
    2. Copy the contents of the Oracle RDBMS CD to the temporary directory created in step 1.
    3. Search the directory structure created in step 1 for the existence of the filename symcjit.dll.
    4. Rename each copy of the symcjit.dll to symcjit.old.
    5. Run the setup.exe from the \install\win32 directory and install Oracle 8.1.x.

  • JCheckBox not displaying on Windows 2000

The JCheckBox is fully blackened when I start my GUI based application on Windows 2000
but it works fine on Windows XP ie displays fine.
    jCheckBox = new javax.swing.JCheckBox();
                   jCheckBox.setName("StandardLineJCheckBox");
    jCheckBox.setSelected(true);
                   jCheckBox.setText("Standard Lines");
Also this happens when I have JRE 1.4.2_05 . With JRE 1.3 both Windows 2000 and XP display
checkboxes fine. Anyy idea for a fix is appreciated.....
    I tried jCheckBox.setBackground(java.awt.Color.white);
    but that doesn't help too.

i also experienced that too last time, when i try to use jre later than l.4.2_01 all these screen blank thing happened, so finally i chose to stick with old jre 1.4.2_01 and it work fine until now. i think the latest 1.5.0 should work fine
