Satellite 1730CDT, DVD burner exchange

I want to replace the CD-Rom drive with a slim line DVD burner, possibly a NEC ND-6500 A. My OS is Windows XP. Do I have to expect problems?
Guenter.

Hi,
normally you can only replace the existing drive by the same one! Toshiba had only tested this drives and so they only guarantie that only this drives will work!
You can try to replace the existing one with the NEC but there can occure problems!

    Hi,
is it possible to replace the cd-rom drive with a DVD burner?
Does this notebook support "cable select"?

    Hi,
normally you can only replace the existing drive with the same one, but you can check http://www.toshiba-europe.com/storage and look if a DVD burner would fit!
You should know which drive do you have!

  • Inernal DVD drive exchange on Satellite Pro 2100

Is it possible to exchange the internal DVD Rom drive against a slimline DVD burner?
    How is this done?

    Hi
I think you could use many internal drives but the drive must supports the right Master/Slave/C-sel settings.
I have downloaded the user manual for this notebook from the Toshiba support homepage and there were listed several compatible drives. But unfortunately most of these drives support only DVD reading. ;(
In my opinion you should make a call to the authorized service point in your country for more details about the compatible drive. But of course, possibly no DVD burner is available for you notebook because its a little bit older.
However, what do you think about an external DVD burner?
I bought several month ago an external DVD burner and it was much cheaper as an internal notebook drive. I use it only at home and therefore it was not very important for me to buy an internal drive

  • Satellite A60: firmware for DVD burner TEAC DV-W24e needed !

    Hi guys,
I have a problem with DVD burner TEAC DV-W24e. It has been some time that it is no more able to write any DVD or CD. Today, I checked the firmware and saw that the version is not the good one at all. Could anybody tell me where I could get the last firmware for that DVD burner or could anyone send it to me by e-mail ! It would be great !!!!
Thanks to all and season's greetings.
    Ben

I found a firmware update on the Toshiba page in the Satellite A60 area but its only for these drives:
    - SD-R2212
    - SD-R1312
    - SD-R1512
    - SD-R2412
    - SD-R6112
    - SD-R2512
I think you have to Google or to ask the drive manufacture for the right firmware
    Nice page:

  • How to reset the BIOS to solve a problem with DVD burner on Satellite P100

    Hi
I am trying to reset my cmos to solve a problem with my dvd burner.
I was trying to run an old game that I own that was protected by starforce and ran starforce nightmare with has made the device completly inoperable.
After much searching I have heard to reset cmos.
I have treid through debug and nothing happend. I don't really want to open up the laptop and pull the cmos battery out or leave it for a month until the cmos battery runs out.
Is there any advice on what I should do.

    Hi
What you want to do is simply not possible you said that you had some problems with PCs and you fixed it.
That's great. But a PC is simply different and cannot be compared with the notebook
    > I was trying to run an old game that I own that was protected by starforce and ran starforce nightmare with has made the device completely inoperable.
According to your statement above you CD/DVD drive issue could be related to the installed starforce nightmare. I dont know this but I presume this software/application has changed or destroyed the CD/DVD drives firmware.
Sorry but I see only one way to get it working again You have to contact the ASP in your country. Maybe a technician would be able to rescue the drive
PS: your Satellite P100 PSPA6A series seems to be a Australian series therefore you should use the Toshiba Australian page if you need some drivers or BIOS

  • Satellite L300D cannot burn DVDs

I have Satellite L300D and Ii have had about a year but I never tried burning DVDs. Now I can burn and read CDs perfectly and read DVDs but when it comes to burning DVDs it have problems as Toshibas programme that came with laptop does not work to burn DVDs and other various programs like Nero and imgburn do not work. I am always getting write error and other things. I was told it was the disks so I went and spent money for verbatim DVDs instead of cheap ones and still it is making coasters out of every disk I try to burn my DVD burner is
    HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-T50N ata device
Can anyone help me please have tried everything restoring my factory settings to when I first bought the laptop as new and still no joy desperately need help.
    Any answers lol ?

Lot of people have problem installing WXP on new notebook because of missing SATA driver. Without this driver HDD will not be recognized properly and WXP installation cannot start because of missing HDD.
To avoid this SATA settings in BIOS can be changed from AHCI to compatibility. This is OK but HDD will not run on default speed and with full performance. So it is better to install WXP with SATA driver and AHCI settings.
Now when the WXP is installed you cannot change this BIOS settings. it will probably end with blue screen at start up. So if you want to have well working WXP on your notebook you must install WXP again (AHCI mode in BIOS).
In this forum you can find hundreds of threads with good explanation how to do this.
If this will help with DVD I don't know but I don't see any reason why you should not be able to use optical disc drive for burning DVDs.
I have Satellite A300 with WXP Sp3 and NERO. It burns all empty medias.

  • Satellite P20 after burning the DVD is not readable

    Hi,
All the times, after trying to write DVDs it ends with unreadable DVD. You can see that there is a burning on it, but the content can is not readable and you can not burn it anymore. I tried it with different products in R-.
What can I do? Which different drive can I buy?

On this forum I have found few interesting topics about ODD replacement on Satellite P20. It seems to be that TEAC DV-W22E drive is perfect for ODD replacement. It is DVD-RAM ODD and you will have DVD burner with RAM function.
Google a little bit around and pick up info about price.

  • Re: Satellite L500-14N (PSLJ3E) - no DVD burning

    Hello
Since a couple of weeks my dvd-burner won't burn anymore. everytime i try to write things to a dvd, i get an error, but reading works fine. furthermore I've no problems with cds. i already tryed 3 programms (Nero 9, CloneDVD2 and the Windows own programm), all 3 types of DVDs (-R/+R/+RW) and installed Windows 7 to test, but nothing helped. Is there any possibility to get things right without buying an external DVD drive?
    I'm grateful for every help

Its not that expensive to buy a external dvd burner(if you need one ) , it will cost you like 20 -30 pounds but if you want to install stuff just use power iso , or any other software that can make a bootable usb and install the software from your usb and win7 too if you put your bios to read from usb instaid of hard drive first
edit: if you have an iso image you can use daemon tools that emulates the use of cd/dvd so it recognizes the image and installs the program /game like a regular cd/dvd does
so more over you can do whatever the cd/dvd does with a usb and you dont need to buy a new external DVD drive

  • Qosmio G10 DVD Burner replacement

My DVD Burner failed out and needs to be replaced. It's a UJ-831S. I bought the same one but I got a CD-ROM Error at start up. I tried this new CD-ROM on another laptop (Toshiba Satellite 2800-300) and it worked fine. I think I have a problem with the configuration of my DVD Burner (c-select, master....). Do you know if can change the firmware of my DVD Burner ?
    Thanks in advance,
    Alain

A released firmware that is BRAND specific (like the one I have attached... (TOSHIBA OEM)) is made to run on a Toshiba model and has been configured with the correct Cable/Master/Slave settings. As you might already know, notebook CD-drives control the required CSM settings through the Firmware that is programmed on them rather than through a "jumper setting" like on desktop versions.
(The other improvements that are mentioned in the firmware documentary are irrelevant for us,... the important note that was meant to be read is the COMPATIBILITY statement to the G10 requirements)
I made several drives work on different notebooks after applying similar firmware upgrades like this one, and (to me) this would be the normal way to go in case I bought a drive with different settings than my notebook's requirements.
The only difficult part in the whole procedure is "WHERE to find a notebook?" that has access to the CD-drive BEFORE you apply the new firmware with the changing CSM setting. In our case, he does have access to the drive on a friends notebook, so he could easily apply the upgrade on his own.
I don't want to encourage anybody to do something he is not familiar with, therefore (for the sake of remaining in safe territories and keep the adrenalin levels normal during the flashing process) the best would be exchanging the drive with a "compatible manufacturer pre-flashed with correct settings" drive.
The procedure I describe should work, but is only meant to be followed by a person, who is taking up ALL RESPONSIBILITIES ON HIS OWN to proceed with this. My part in this thread is only to discuss and explain the process (and concept) of using this specific firmware upgrade that also changes the CSM.

  • How can I write dual DVDs with my UJ 820S DVD burner?

hello i own a satellite notebook, and my problem is that it cannot write at dual dvds, i believe that i have to upgrade the firmware but i cant find anything, recently i had the same problem with my desktop pc and solve it when i upgrade the firmware from its own nec dvd burner, anybody knows where i can find a firmware update, or something else to solve my problem?

    Hi Chris
The CD and DVD burning and reading with different drives is a never ending story.
I use an external burner and believe me; I have tested more than 10 different medias from different manufactures.
I could burn some medias but not read and read but not burn :(
I think you should also test different DVDs.
In my user manual I have found a list with compatible CD and DVD. Possibly you will also find the same supported media list in you preinstalled user manual.

  • Satellite A110-178 - Burn audio CD including CD-text

    Hi,
I have a Toshiba Satellite A110-178. I would like to create an audio CD (.wav files) including cd-text (so, data like artist, album, etc.)
I tried to add the cd-text using several different software programs (Nero, Acoustica CD burner, etc.), however when I burn the CD, the cd-text is not available.
Now I found out that your cd-burner also needs to be capable to burn the cd-text. Apparantly, not all cd-burners have this capability.
Do you know whether the cd-burner in my Toshiba is capable of burning this data?
    Thanks & regards,
    Oliver

    Hi,
    Thanks for the help.
I found a useful tool from Nero which checks whether your cd/dvd burner supports cd-text etc.
I'll check it later, I'm not home now so not able to check.
    Keep you posted..!

  • Lacie DVD Burner not working on my G5

I just got my first external DVD burner--LaCie 16x External FireWire and USB 2.0 Dual Layer DVD Burner in d2 Design (Mfr# 300978) selling for $140 in most places--and I’m having all kinds trouble. DVDs and CDs not mounting seems to be the biggest problem. I bought one last week and it worked erratically from the get-go—but it burned great discs.
So I exchanged it today for another of the same model. It worked well for an hour or so and then it began having problems mounting DVDs. Then I burned 4 DVDs on it and 2 were lemons. Also, it make a unhealthy-sounding squeaky noise when it was burning. And now it won’t mount any DVDs.
I’m I missing something here? I’m running 10.3.9. I have a 1.6 ghz single processor G5. Is there a make and model that’s now all the rage with you guys out there?
    Thanks!

    1. There is a LaCie DVD D2 updater at the LaCie support site.
    2. They are VERY media fussy - try Verbatim media, if that works the media you are using is being rejected - the LaCie's have a wealth of meaningless error messages when they are upset including "unstable firewire connection" and various "medium sense errors", and they all boil down to it hates the media you are using.
Only Verbatim DL DVD+R work so far - none of the others will, period. Ritek, Fuji, etc.

  • LaCie DVD burner almost a waste of money?

Has anyone with OSX 10.3.9 got a LaCie 22x d2 DVD +/-RW Drive to write DVDs from the Finder?
I have an Apple iBook Power PC G4 with an  internal drive which writes only CDs.
I bought the LaCie d2 Drive [ Product code 301484EK ] so I could write DVDs.
    It has the latest Firmware v1.20 ( Oct 4  2009 ).
I have used the supplied DVD-ROM to install the software and it showed a message
    "Install LaCie DiscRecording Support
    The software was successfully installed
Click Restart to finish installing the software."
I did a Restart as required.
It does write DVDs from Toast7 Basic, included on the DVD-ROM sent with the Drive, but it will not write DVDs from the Finder.
Finder/File/ does not show the expected option "New Burn Folder" which is what I expected from LaCie Support web site - as the following link claims:
    http://www.lacie.com/us/support/support_manifest.htm?id=10113&article=1065
I have spent countless hours exchanging emails with LaCie Tech Support but they do not have a solution.
    http://www.lacie.com/UK/mystuff/ticket/ticket.htm?id=101666718
At the request of LaCie Tech Support, the software has also been downloaded from
    http://www.lacie.com/us/support/drivers/driver.htm?id=10055
    but no improvement.
The LaCie DVD Writer does appear in System Profiler, but Disc Burning is shown as "Not Supported".
I have used Firewire connections as LaCie recommended, but I get the same poor results using USB, DVDs, CDs.
I have tried to use Disk Utility to burn a disk image on a blank DVD on the LaCie drive, but that does not work either.
Although I can manage to write DVDs using Toast, so my main requirement has been met, it is unsatisfactory to have bought new equipment directly from the manufacturer only to find that the claimed features do not all work.
Have I just been wasting my time expecting this drive to work as LaCie claimed with OSX 10.3.9?
I see other users have had trouble with LaCie even with OSX more recent than 10.3.9.
    See:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3306858?start=0&tstart=0
    I recently purchased an LaCie DVD writer d2 DVD + / - 22.
    and
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/445220?start=0&tstart=0
LaCie DVD burner total waste of money
    So I am still asking
"Has anyone with OSX 10.3.9 got LaCie 22x d2 DVD +/-RW Drive to write DVDs from the Finder?"

    Thanks for helpful reply.
"If that fails, check with them if they can get you at least a Roxio Toast Lite version that works with it."
Not really necessary as I CAN already use TOAST as stated below, as in original post.
"It does write DVDs from Toast7 Basic, included on the DVD-ROM sent with the Drive, but it will not write DVDs from the Finder."
    "Have you tried http://www.patchburn.de/"?
Not yet, but that looks good.
They even have a version which could work with our other Apple - G4 iMac on OSX 10.2.8 - which would be very convenient.
"http://www.macsales.com/ is much more reliable in terms of selling burners worldwide that work with any version of Mac OS X."
    Perhaps.
But their web site includes the identical LaCie DVD Writer, with just the usual claims about OK for OSX 10.3.9.
    No specialwarnings or restrictions mentioned.

    Thanks again for your help.

  • DVD Burner keeps encoding and won't burn my file.

Trying to burn a home made video onto a DVD and when I attempt to do it, it won't go any farther than encoding the video.  I have left it on for 2+ hours letting it encode and it won't get any higher than 60%.  I'm using Windows Movie Maker software and Windows DVD burning software.  There is no way it should be taking this long.  I am using a Toshiba Satellite L355-S7902.  Do I just need to change my DVD burning software or what?  Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

I don't think so. I bought new disks yesterday to be sure and the result is the same. Also, when in the drives, none of the disks (old or new) make any kind of not-normal noise. Everything seems normal, except neither computer can burn. Weird!

  • Satellite U205 - DVD drive problems

I purchased a Satellite U205-S5057 last year with Vista on it. For the first month, every video file burned just fine. After that, I've downloaded all sorts of codecs and trial versions of DVD burning software just to have it keep burning DVDs.
After all the downloads, naturally, they started to conflict. I ran a system recovery and hoped it would clean out all the conflicts. I put some videos on a CD-rw and transferred them to my notebook to burn. When I clicked on the D:/ it said "D:/ no application". Then I re-installed Realplayer from the internet and now it burns in Realplayer 1 out of every 10 or so tries.
Does anyone know why I have so many problems with my CD/DVD drive? Also, it always says D:/ is a DVD drive even when I put in a CD. Is this right?

    Hi
Did you try to remove the upper and lower filters from the registry entry?
    Not? Ok try this:
First of all remove the CD/DVD drive from the device manager.
Then remove the Upperfilters and Lowerfilters values completely from the following registry key:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
Finally reboot the machine and restart the system.
The Windows OS should recognize the drive and should reinstall it again.
