Satellite 220CS, DVD compatibility

Can anyone tell me what DVD drives are compatible with the satellite 220CS?

Hi,
DeGroninger is right. The Satellite 220CS has an Pentium with 133Mhz and a 2MB graphic card. With this hardware you can't read or watch DVDs.
Sorry, but the notebook is too slow!
In some notebooks with slow processor are built in hardware decoders for watching DVDs. But as far as I know such a decoder is always built in and not additional!

  • Boot & Installproblem with Satellite 220CS

One of my collegues got a Satellite 220CS running windows 95. He would like to use it to connect it to the internet. The drivers & devices supplied in order to be able to connect are in need of win 98 so he asked me if I was able to install 98 on it. I supposed it would be a simple install, I inserted the win98 disc into his computer, the cd booted by itself and it asked if I wanted to install 98. I said ok and it started to check the system. After some time I got a message that it was impossible to install it due to the incompability of both os'es (95 and 98). So I decided to reboot the system into MS DOS and try to install it from the cd drive by going to D:\ . Everything went just the same as in windows, systemcheck was done and I got the message the '98 version couldn't be installed as there it was incompatible with 95.
Now the problem is we can't exit the setupscreen, it remains at the systemcheck but nothing can be done. No way or manner to exit is shown on the screen. When we eject the cd and turn the system of in order to reboot it automaticly jumps back to the setupscreen of win98 which is blocked, nothing can be done.
Is there someone overhere whom is able to explain me how I can reboot his system like it was before, or maybe better, directly install win 98 on it?
your help would be much appreciated!!
    thanks in advance

    Hi,
ok, sorry, is CD alright? Perhaps it is damaged with a scratch or something else?
If you have the possibility to use another W98 CD try it!
To block this error message during the setup is very difficult!
When the recovery CD ocurre the same failure then it seems that the hardware is damaged perhaps! Did you checked your CD-Drive? Test the install setup with another CD drive if possible!

  • Impossible to Boot from CD for satellite 220CS

    Hello,
    I have a toshiba satellite 220CS/1.4GB model no. PA1240EYV-NLDI
It has a removable diskette station.
Later I get a separate 6x cd drive model no. XM-1402B, Ver. No. 002, ROM Ver. KF60118.
This drive has is own case and I can connect it aside to the laptop
I can remove the drive out his case, but it is not possible to change the cd drive with the diskette station.
This cd drive dont fits into the space of the diskette station.
When I connect the drive with his little cable to the laptop, and I tell the BIOS to boot from CD then I hear the cd spinning an I see the LED burn for a short while.
    But he doesnt boot.
I tried to use the thing as a non boot device.
The OS on the laptop is Win95 (I want to change that)
    I modified config.sys and also autoexec.bat.
I used for this the original drivers for the cd drive (downloaded from the internet).
But the system dont sees the cd drive.
The BIOS said that it is possible to boot from CD, but why not my system?
Who can help me with this problem
    Thanks,

    Hi all
checking my memory, which can be wrong here, it should be possible to take out the FDD from the 220CS and put a CD there instead.
The CD works fine INSIDE the computer but will not work in the case. The case is intended only for a FDD. The case can also be used as a 'parking space' for the CD when not in use.
    You can remove the FDD/CD from the 220 by;
    - turning the machine upside down
    - unlocking the bay-lock with the small switch.
    - ejecting the device by gently pulling/lifting the eject-lever.
When installing another device don't forget to lock the bay-lock again.
    Good luck.

  • Satellite A - DVD drive not seen by Windows Explorer

THe DVD deive on D is not seen by windows explorer. It used to work but has now disappeared. The dvd hardwars starts up at boot then ceases.
    Any ideas anyone?

Try removing the CD/DVD Filters from the Registry.
When CD/DVD related software is installed (such as iTunes, Nero, virtual CD software), they install filters into the registry, which can cause compatibility problems.
    1) Run Regedit (Start -> Run -> Regedit)
    2) Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
    3) In the right pane, delete the "UpperFilters" key, and delete the "LowerFilters" key.
    4) Reboot.
If your CD/DVD programs stop working, you will need to reinstall them (preferably with an updated version).
This utility can remove the filters for you:

  • Satellite A660 DVD/CD-ROM drive does not detect discs

    Hi there,
I have a Toshiba Satellite A660 with a MAT****A BD-CMB UJ141ES DVD/CD-ROM drive. It is about 18 months old and recently I have noticed that it does not recognise any CDs/DVDs. It makes a couple of noises once inserted but then stops spinning and nothing happens or changes in My Computer view.
Please note there seems to be no apparent problems with the drive:
    - It is present in My Computer
    - The device is working properly in device manager
    Things I have already tried:
    - Run Microsoft FixIt and CD-ROM/DVD Troubleshooter - both said it could not recognise media
    - Deleted upper filter in the registry as per many suggestions (no lower filter present)
    - Updated driver
I don't know what else to do. Please help as this is frustrating for a relatively new notebook which never is moved from my desk (don't expect many damaged parts).
    Cheers

As I said: clean the laser lens
If you open the CD/DVD drive you will see the small laser lens.
Use cotton wool tip and alcohol

  • Satellite 2430 DVD drive issue

    Hello there,
my Satellite 2430 has got a strange DVD problem and can't figure out what is all about. All started when I tried to do a full recovery. The unit wasn't able to boot from DVD. I've checked the DVD drive with different bootable disks but still nothing. Unit doesn't want to boot from DVD drive even if F12 is pressed and DVD device selected. Not to mention that the recovery DVD is loaded normally in my desktop pc. The notebook boots up Windows OK from HDD and, what's amaizing is that inside Windows everything is OK. The DVD drive works like a dream. However, this is not enough to perform the full recovery as the recovery process can't be initialised by Windows. Hopping that the BIOS is causing the problem, I upgraded it to version 1.6, but there is no change in DVD's behaviour.
Any thoughts, before using a big-big hammer?

    Hi
Did you try to change the boot priority in the BIOS?
If not so change booting procedure to the CD drive firstly. The LAN should be on the end.

  • Satellite P305 - DVD drive missing, Registry method attempted

My satellite P305 lost the DVD icon in the My Computer.
So I tried to fix it using the "Registry-Method" I've seen all over the forums, but it did not work as I only found a "lower" I think not sure the name But not the "higher" second registry value. So now I can't use my PC's DVD and I hope I can just reinstall the driver, even though I doubt it.
The computer troubleshooter said that the problem is that the registry file was corrupted or missing (before I attempted to fix it). I had been using a burner and burning a DVD that took a long time to end the 99% level, so I clicked to close the program thinking that the information was already encoded on the DVD and there is nothing left for the program to do but shutdown, but it didn't work and the program stayed frozen. The program I used was called Cheetah Burner, in case you are interested in knowing it. So I ejected the disc (maybe after control-alt-deleting it, not sure) and probably restarted the computer again, to see that the program had occurred.
So please tell me how to deal with this, fast. I need to solve this fast to continue working!!!
    Thank you
    Ash.

    Hi Ash,
I think you mean the upper and lower filters in registry. Is that right?
Normally this should help regarding problems with CD/DVD drive but you have already tried this?!
In your case I would try to remove the CD/DVD drive from device manager (right click > uninstall). After restart the drive will be recognized again and maybe it works.
Furthermore you dont need another driver because its a part of OS. This driver cant be updated.
Another interesting thin: Can you boot from a disk?

  • Satellite A660 - DVD drive will not recognise some DVDs

    I have a new Satellite A660-17E with a HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GT30N drive, running Windows 7 64 bit.
The drive will read most DVDs. Commercial DVDs (region 2) are fine. However, there are problems with DVDs recorded using DVD recorders. DVD+R recordings using a Philips machine work fine. DVD+R and DVD-R using a Sony HDX RDR 1095 machine do not work.
I'm hoping that the drive is ok and that this issue can be resolved by adjusting some setting or other?
    Any ideas?

It is most likely the issue is with the brand of dvd's you record with. as stated in the manual not all brands of recordable media are guaranteed to work with the dvd drive.
Also the sony recorder, i had a similar problem when playing the recorded dvd on another dvd machine, i found by adding a little more recorded info from the other machine onto the dvd it played fine after that. If you use DVD+R on the sony , record something on the laptop to the same dvd and then see if the dvd will play on the laptop.

  • Cannot install Windows 8 on Satellite L750 - CPU compatibility issue

Why can I not install Windows 8 Consumer Preview on my Toshiba Satellite L750-22x?
I get a processor compatibility error.
    Intel i3 M380 2.53GHz

    Hi
The internet provides some details about this error message.
It seem that in order to install the Win 8 CP the CPU should support PAE/NX/SSE2 features
Never-eXecute Bit ( [NX bit|http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NX_bit] ) allows marking of memory pages as non-executable.
Streaming SIMD Extensions 2 (SSE2) is a previous standard that is supported by Intel and AMD CPU. Therefore all CPUs that support NX would also support SSE2 too.
Usually enabling the XD (for Intel CPUs) or NX (for AMD CPUs) in BIOS should disable this error message.
But if this is not available in BIOS then either the CPU does not supports this feature or the BIOS does not support this option.
According to Intel Ark page the Intel Core i3-380M supports Execute Disable Bit. So possibly the BIOS does not support this feature

It seems you need to wait for new BIOS

  • Satellite C660 - DVD player keeps ejecting

    Hi
This is a problem that has only just started. Every time I power notebook up the first thing it does is eject the DVD player which is empty. It also does the same after power save mode has been on. Notebook runs fine otherwise, its not a major problem, just annoying.
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Hi Darkhorse99,
To be honest this must be a malfunction of CD/DVD drive. I dont have another explanation for this strange behavior.
How old is your Satellite C660?
If its still under warranty an authorized service provider can replace the drive for free.

  • Satellite M300 - DVD Drive Problem

    Hi
I have a Satellite M300 and when I insert a DVD movie to watch the DVD drive spins and hums but the disk is not read. The drive stays like this and when I try to eject the disk there is no response at all form the computer.
When I try to eject through windows media player it says the drive is busy, but still nothing happens.
The drive continues to spin and hum loudly without reading the disk and the only way to stop the disk spinning and to eject the DVD is to restart the computer and eject during load up before the computer tries to read the disk again.
I am only a novice at notebooks so any help or suggestion would be greatly appreciated.
Also the computer was purchased in Australia and I am currently living in Germany
    Please reply in English
    Thanks Daniel

its is a strange problem, it will do it with more so original DVD's, but does happen on occasion with burnt or created disks
with original disks it might happen a few times then on an off chance the disk will be read and works fine, but more so it is not read

  • Satellite A300 - dvd, usb and card reader will not work

    Help required please.
Have a A300 Satellite laptop, running vista.
Until a couple of weeks ago all good, then noticed the dvd/cd did not recognized and disc in it. The card reader cannot find anything on the card (and yes the card was full).
The usb scanner is recognized as a external memory card and the other usb port does not fuction.
I have not installed or cannot remember changing settings or doing anything out of the usually.
Any help or thoughts would be appreciated.

    Hi
    Your posting is very confusing.
    > Until a couple of weeks ago all good, then noticed the dvd/cd did not recognized and disc in it.
Well, there are many reasons for that; it could be possible that inserted disk is not fully compatible. Try different disks from different manufacturers.
It could be also possible that laser lens of the ODD is dirty. In such case you could clean it using a cotton-wool tip and alcohol. In my case this helped.
    > The card reader cannot find anything on the card (and yes the card was full).
Did you use a compatible card? The notebook handles these cards:
    SD Card 8MB - 2GB
    SDHC Card - 4GB
    xD picture card - 16MB-2GB
    Memory Stick - 8MB-256MB
    Memory Stick Pro - 256MB-2GB
    MultiMediaCard - 8MB-1GB
miniSD (with SD adapter) - 32MB-2GB
I would also recommend to format the card and to copy some files from computer and then to test this.
You could also reinstall and update the driver for card reader controller...
    > The usb scanner is recognized as a external memory card
Cannot believe that You should use a scanner software (should be provided with the scanner) and should test this device. By the way; mostly a scanner driver needs to be installed in order to use this

  • Satellite R20 DVD-Recorder problem (firmware needed)

    Hi,
in my Toshiba Satellite R20 (tablet) DVD Recorder (Pioneer) was accidentally flashed with the incorrect firmware by the previous user (I work in the company and this Tablet came to me aleady as used one).
Now when powering on, CD-ROM ERROR appears for a while, then Window boots normally from HDD. In Windows, I can't see the optical drive - first I have to suspend system, and then, after wake up, the DVD Drive is recognised and installed but works only in PIO mode. I have seen that the model number displayed is incorrect (DVR-K16 and should be DVR-K16TBR as it is desrcibed on the drive).
Is there any possibility to obtain the original firmware and to reflash the drive by myself?
    regards,
    T. Trojan

    Hi,
You cant reflash the drive by yourself, this can only an ASP (authorized service provider) but Im not sure, if this possible.
The best way is you contact an ASP and ask them. Here you can search for one:
    http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com => Support & Downloads => Find an ASP
In the worst case the drive must be replaced.
Tell me what happened, Im interested in.

  • Satellite A200 DVD calibaration error

I don't know why my Toshiba's Satellite A200 burner: LT-SH652D doesn't burn data nay more?
Is it a matter of firmware, since I have updated it up to SC03, or is such failure to calibrate the laser is due to a physical problem? I have been using this laptop since year only, and have burned a few gigabytes with it.
I do wonder if I'm supposed to download the former firmware of that burner, knowing carefully the Toshiba services are being making ti available on line.
Have I lost my burner for no reasons, because of an early hardware failure? Or is it possible to fix such problem, if considering it being as a firmware issue?

    Hello
The firmware hasn't been downloaded from the Toshiba official website, though I have managed to flash the drive again with a TO04 firm, and the problem that the calibration message error has disappeared, meaning that the burning process starts regularity now!
Nevertheless, the burning process remains unsuccessful, because the burned data remains unaccessible for inexplicable reasons.
In other words, such update of the firmware shows clearly that the hardware can change its behavior, and that this may overrule the hypothesis of a laser physical problem.
I maintain, until the demonstration shows the contrary, that this DVD drive needs its original flash, the original firmware to fix definitely the issue. That will certainty show what is going wrong now. In my believe, your answer is rather precipitated, we need further experimenting to confirm such definitive conclusion about the hardware's functioning.
Therefore, I will gently ask the *Toshiba support team* to make such software available on their website, that to be sure that, indeed a new Toshiba DVD doesn't fail functioning only a few months after it got used, unless we will have to admit that a flash may definitely deteriorate the drive.
Thank you for your contribution anyway.

  • Satellite P30 - DVD problems UJ-830s - You cannot copy or move the files

    Hi
Just had to re-install everything using the Toshiba Recovery disk image.
DVD drive did not work at all, giving always a drive not connected warning!
Then after 2 days and reinstall of OLD drives it started to work.
Now, I cannot move a file by copying/pasting and it does not even appears on the SEND to list!
I can read no problem, I can write using Power to go, but I cannot write by simply moving a file to it! I will try InCD again and hope it works this time.
Any idea? I checked the uptade files and firmware, but they are not for this drive, apparently the UJ-830 nearly does not exist online at all! Toshiba must have got rid of them with all their Satellite (not the Pro) P30 version.
    It is a Mat****a (Matsu****a - i.e. Panasonic!) UJ-830s
Does anyone know were to find the Satellite P30 internal hardware manual, so I can do the proper upgrade myself! I am an Electronics Technician and like to do things properly.
This DVD drive, I think is the only let down on this very nice Laptop.
    Thanks

    Hi
You have suggested that you can read with no problems and writing works also by using the Power to go. I assume power to go is burning software.
In this case I think the drive is ok.
I think if you want to write the files on the CD by using the simply file moving you have to enable the Windows record function.
Go to the drive properties (right click) and select the ?recording? tab.
There you should check the options.
