I can only repeat some suggestions which were posted here in the forum
The available screen resolution depends on the graphic driver.
Usually the resolution is not available because its not listed in the graphic driver!
Therefore there is not much to do. If the driver does not support the 1680x1050 resolution you will not be able to choose it.

Satellite 5200 + external monitor

i have a higher resolution external monitor 17" flat panel connected to my laptop and really just want to know is it possible to make this one the 'primary monitor'? - this option is greyed out in the control panel display property box.
i can 'extend my windows desktop onto this monitor' and my external monitor becomes display number 2 with only the background wallpaper, no icons or windows is visible.
if i de-select 'extend my windows desktop onto this monitor' both displays become number 1 but then i can't use the higher resolution as i think that the external one is really just a clone of the laptop panel?

As far as I know its not possible to set the external monitor as a primary monitor.
Furthermore if you use the extended desktop the screen resolution is the same like on the notebook display. Usually you can change the display resolution if the external monitor is set as a second monitor. In this case you should use the key combination FN+F5 to change the display devices.

How to install recovery image on Satellite 5200 using USB DVD drive

Hello,
I have this problem with a Satellite 5200-902 that has the DVD-ROM corrupt and I don't find the part to change. (model DVD: uj-810b)
But I would like to reinstall the notebook with the CD recovery and I don't be able to enter in the BIOS for change the boot order and start with a USB DVD-ROM.
I removed the HDD and reinstall the WXp Prof by another machine but when I restart the 5200 I read this message " errore nel caricamento del sistema operativo".
When turn on I press F2-F10-F12 but if I select another peripheral for boot the notebook start only by network.
Can you help me to recover this notebook by an external USB DVD-ROM?

I have an usb floppy drive model ibm TEAC FD05pub, I think it's incompatible or the notebook don't has the power in the usb port because the led of the floppy is of.
When I tried to press ESC + F1 in the bios I set only the date and the password but no the boot order and other function.
I really do not know what to do and how to solve.
I can not execute any BIOS update I can only do so because the boot from network or DVD-ROM (unfortunately broken).
I installed the operating system by connecting the hard disk on another machine but when I go to connect to my notebook S5200 gives me error.

As I wrote in the Headline, the Display of my Notebook Satellite 5200-903 is broken. The Display:

Can someone tell me what the repair roughly will cost? I'm not sure if the repair is not to expensive for the old Notebook.

Well, sorry but I cant give you a proper answer for your question.
The fact is that the notebook screen is a expensive notebook part.
You should contact the Toshiba service partner in your country and ask him for the replacing costs.

How to install wireless on a Satellite 5200-903?

Due to a very bad virus I recovered Windows on a Satellite 5200-903 of a friendly businessman. But back home he saw: no wireless LAN could be used... It seems, that cause the WLAN-switch was "off" no WLAN-driver was installed/recovered...
Now he wants to come to me again tomorrow or the day after tomorrow - and I MUST know, how to install everything until then... he also will bring me his router, so I can configure everything for him on the notebook AND router (WPA, if possible).
But I found TWO drivers: one was a direct download of a small file of "Agere" - wlesslan-xp-7620390.zip
The other is from "Atheros", and the download is a links to another website "Toshiba EMEA - Wireless LAN Driver Portal" http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/wlan/?page=downloads , where I have to identify the WLAN adapter... But: on the first download-site (I mean BEFORE redirected to "Toshiba EMEA") there is at the list "Model" NOT any Satellite 5200.
Which driver is correct? Are there different WLAN-adapters in the 5200-903 series? Is it possible to find out the adapter model BEFORE he gives me the Notebook?
And in the list of drvers for the 5200-903 there was a download "WLAN hotkey" wlkey-xp-2003.zip ? Do I need that too? Do I need any other things?
And does such an "older" WLAN-Access work in another way than the integrated WLAN of a centrino e.g. ? I just know how to log into a WLAN with newer notebooks: button "wireless networks" on the right buttom oft windows, then chose the WLAN name to connect and type in the key, if needed.
Please help me, he lives 100 miles away from me and has not much time, he comes again to me just for that matter, and of course he was not amused when he returned home and couldn't connect to the internet... and he's an ABSOLUTE noob in technical things, so I cannot tell him how to do it on his own and need your help quickly.

I just want to make the whole story short and simply. After installing OS install drivers for hardware components. According the notebook specification for Satellite 5200-903 it is WLAN ready model and I do not know which WLAN card is inside. You friend should have info about that.
If there is Atheros WLAN card the right driver you can find HERE
After driver installation install all Toshiba designed tools and utilities starting with COMMON MODULES. It must be installed at first. WLAN-hotkey utility is important because using FN+F8 key combination you can enable/disable WLAN card.
WLAN software (Atheros WLAN client utility) is not necessary because for WLAN you can use WXP WLAN settings. You can use it if the WLAN card is activated properly.
So I hope you will set WLAN properly and if you need more assistance please write again.

It looks like you may need a mini-displayport to Displayport cable. You can also try holding the option key while clicking on "scaled" to see if the option you need comes up.

How to enter BIOS mode on Satellite 5200?

I own a Satellite 5200-801 and Ive recently bought a new CD/DVD - rom cause the original just died. The thing is that the drive I bought is from US market and my laptop is European. So Ive double checked all the serial numbers on it and everything was correct except the manufacture serial number that I suppose makes no difference to be different.
My problem is that when I install it the light indicator flashes normal but when it boots it shoes IDE error boot and windows doesnt see it at all. Do u know how can I enter BIOS setting to change master/slave cause I believe that there is a difference among them at this point....the original is master and the second is csel.
Also is there a key to enter BIOS because I cant enter at all no matter key combinations. Finally if I change the reading head of the DVD/ROM and put back the original would make the change I need?

As far as I know you cannot change anything in BIOS but check it again. To enter BIOS settings press ESC button at start up.

Satellite 5200 - Need master/slave patch for new DVD drive

I need a patch for DVD to use in a Satellite 5200.
My original DVD is broken, so i bought a Toshiba SD-C2512 DVD but it is not working inside the Satellite, but with adaptor at my Desktop PC.
I have to patch the DVD to Master.
Where can I get the file and prog to patch?

I think such patches that you mean are not available and as far as I know if you can switch a notebook from Master to Slave for example there is a jumper on the drive.
However, for me it sounds like that the drive is not compatible with this notebook. Not every drive is compatible with every notebook (e. g. pin assignment, ) ;)
You should buy another one and check the user manual. There you should find a list of compatible drives.

What to say many notebooks are delivered with the nVIDIA GeForce FX Go5600.
So you can try to check another notebooks series which were delivered with this graphic card and try to use this display driver.

Satellite 5200 701: I can't use the TV Out anymore.

This is my first message on this forum. I have a Satellite 5200 701 for 3 years now. I can't watch movies on my TV anymore. I could use this function in the past.
Last november, I formatted my laptop with Toshiba's CDs. As I had no TV, I had not tried using the TV Out function. But now that I have one (different) TV Set, I have tried to use it without success.
When I press Fn + F5, nothing happens. When I go to the screen selection, I can select the 2nd display but in "advanced", I can't find the same features as I had in the past (before the formatting). I don't have in "advanced" the Nview utility...
Is it a problem of driver? From Nvidia, or Toshiba, or Microsoft? Hardware problem...?
I don't know how to solve this problem.

Satellite 5200-903d: Unable to burn DVD

hi, i have a satellite 5200-903d winxp sp2, and now when i insert a blank dvd, it shows up as a full cdrom. iused to use drag'n drop and dvdshrink/nero with no problems. now it appears to go through the motions of burning, but still left with a blank dvd. any help will be appreciated.

In my opinion your DVD drive is defective. The laser position for reading and writing is not the same. It will be interesting to know it you can watch DVD movies and if all DVD medias can be reading properly. Try to remove the drive from device manager. Let the OS detect the drive again and test it.
I dont believe that you can do something about that.

How to reboot Satellite 5200-801 without using Recovery disk?

I have the product recovery disk, but that will wipe all existing data and rebuild. Is there a way to start my PC without the use of recovery disk?

Tried to access BIOS, but seem to have no luck. When I try to enter it during boot up, I get a black screen with the following:
Set default value? (Y/N) BIOS v1.20 (in right upper corner)
It doesn't matter if I press "Y" on "N" the result is the same, which is the original screen I already described.
I also tried the Microsoft Installation disk, but nothing happened with that either. It reads the CD, but on the screen nothing but the original message appears and even that after a reboot with the CD in. If I put it in when the PC is working and "press any key", nothing changes on the screen other than the original message re-appears after it tries to reboot, but realises it's not the system disk it asked for.
I did have a similar problem starting it about a year ago, when I previously used it, but then after few restarts, it got going again. That time I did a system and disk check and defrag, so all was well when I turned it off.
Wii check the HDD via HDD enclosure next as RandyRobers suggested.

Satellite 5200-903: Problems with Fn-F5 and middle cpad button

Hi,
i updated my Win XP Home to Win XP Pro and installed all the toshiba goodies from the Homepage. Two things don't work as expected though:
* Fn-F5 doesn't cycle through the available monitors
* the middle cpad button cannot be used as a middle mouse button
Don't know why Fn-F5 doesn't work, all the other Fn-Keys work as expected. They show the OSD, too. Fn-F5 doesn't show the OSD and no function :/
About the cpad button: I tried the driver from the toshiba site and from synpatics.com
The problem is: in the control panel i can choose functions for each button. The function "middle mouse button" is available for the left and the right button, but not the middle one. And it is not recognized as middle mouse button, but as PageUp.
Any ideas? The notebook is a Satellite 5200-903.

First of all I must tell you that Satellite 5200 is a great unit. If I found one that costs not much money I will buy it.
To your issues:
As far as I know if you want to use FN+F5 key combination you must install TOSHIBA Hotkey Utility for Display Devices V2.1.0.0-1. I hope that this tool is installed properly. If you want you can try to install it again.
I am not 100% sure but I think that this small button in the middle has no the same function like middle button as a middle mouse button and it will be used to start sPad launcher. If you want you can check it in Users manuals. I didnt read it but I hope that there you can find a proper explanation about functionality of this small button.

Satellite 5200-903: Mini PCI Card doesn`t work

I am a user of an:
Satellite 5200-903: P4-M 2.2/256+256 DDR/60GB/15T SXGA+/DVD-R-RW/nV FX 5600/cPad/WIFI ready/XP
My computer is equipped with an Toshiba Wirless lan Mini PCI Card.
I installed the card a few years ago - everything worked wonderfull.
At the beginning of 2006 I installed a new operating system (XP Pro + SP1, same system as before) because it was necessary.
I installed all driver for the W-Lan Card, obviously the card worked in the correct way (no driver incompatibility or other problems).
But, and thats the reason of this topic here. It isn`t possible to connect my card to any Hot Spot. I tried it with 2 different access points, but the result is the same. "No connection Point found".
Has anyone any idea what to do or in which direction I could look for the failure? Is there maybe any special Software necessary (I couldn`t remember, that in my last installation I had needed special driver or software)
If further informations are necessary, please inform myself.
(sorry for the terrible english, but it isnt my first language.)

thx for the hints. But unfortunately none of these solved my problem.
1. I checked my device Manager, it`s shown a Toshiba Wireless LAN Mini Pci Card
2. The device is activated, with no problems
3. My wireless activation switch on the left notebook side is activated (led lights yellow)
4. Pushing the Fn+F8 Button results nothing
(wenn i press the combination during the Notebook switch is off - i got the message "wireless connection is deactivated, please activate")
What have to happen, when pushing the Fn+F8 Button during the wireless switch is activated? Is there any message on the screen?
Concerning the installed driver, how could I check what type of card is installed in my notebook. I know, that there a two types of driver and card existing, toshiba and atheros.
But, if the installed driver causes no problems I guess the right driver is installed.
