Satellite A100-206 supervisor password issue

HI
We have a Satellite A100-206 in the office.
A colleague trying to protect the laptop has set user password in bios.
I don't know what exactly she do but at the bootup a password is requested.
Then she ask me to remove the password so I have typed the password, entred the bios and clear the user password.
But doing this I 've also note that the supervisor password was already set but not selectable (grey colored) .
Anyhow I've saved and reboot.
The problem is that now the O.S. start without asking a password, but I cannot enter the bios anymore because it ask a password and is not the one the collegue remember to have set.
Why I cannot enter anymore in th bios as user?
I've also search the hwsetup in windows to re set the user password as indicated in the manual but this software is not present.
best regards
Diego

Thank you for the reply.
The operating system is windows xp
I've tried to use hwsetup but i can't find hit in the laptop, reading the manual it should be included in toshiba assist appilcation or locate in the control panel but is not there.
I have tryied also to download toshiba assit from support site and re install but hwsetup is still not present.
I can't find the single program "hwsetup" in the list of software downloadable for my laptop , do you know were I can dowload it or in wich software package is included?
Thanks

  • Satellite Pro A200 - Supervisor Password Utility Setup fails

    Hello,
I own a Satellite Pro A200-PSAE7E and a retail license for Windows Vista Ultimate 32bit (with SP1) installed on it.
Before installing Vista, I upgraded the BIOS to the most recent version available on the Toshiba site (http://it.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/vista_drivers.jsp?service=IT).
    BIOS version is now 2.20-WIN32
After the successful installation of the operating system, I started installing the various drivers and utilities downloading them from the Toshiba site.
When I try to install the "Supervisor Password Utility" the setup fails showing a message box which says "The serial number is invalid".
Same problem with another setup: "Flash Cards Support Utility"
Does anybody know how to solve this problem and which serial number is invalid?
    Thanx in advance,
    mme000

    Hi,
You are having the same trouble as other people on these forums.
If you want to fix it yourself, you would need to look at the disk image on the disk that came with your toshiba, figure out which version of the application was included on that, you might be able to find that version on the website for a different model and different country (for instance, on the canadian website, for a totally different computer than my UK computer, i found a version of the flashcards support utility that works with mine.) But i don't think its possible to see what's on the restore disk without instaling it, i.e. wiping everything off your harddrive in the process.
It really is extremely disappointing and frustrating. If anyone knows a way to communicate directly with toshiba about this problem without having to pay some sort of support fee, I would be very interested to hear about it. It seems noone from toshiba actually reads anything from these forum. It seems like a real wasted resource to me....

  • G550 Supervisor Password Issue

I have an issue with G550........manual states a new board is required if you forget the supervisor password. My issue is not forgetting password, but changing it back to "nothing."
My teenage daughter attempted to bypass my windows admin password by changing supervisor password to Thane13. When she could still not access my system, she gave up. I went to reset the supervisor password to nothing. When prompted for password I typed in the Thane13. When asked for "New Password," I just entered through, setting it back to nothing, I thought. Now, I am locked out of machine!! I've tried everything I can think of, short of a hammer. Any assistance here?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

as tanuj suggested, you need to contact support line. due to forum rules forbid to discuss password issue, i'm going to lock this thread.

  • Satellite A500-14L: Supervisor Password Utility & Remote Command Manager

    Hi,
I just installed Windows 7 Home Premium *x64* on my A500-14L (PSAM3E-02N008FR) and all went smooth, even the TVAP and flashcards install. Unfortunately, I have a problem with the following utilities (latest versions found on Toshiba website) :
    - Supervisor Password Utility
    - Remote Command Manager
I installed both of them but I can't find them in my start menu!
There is no install error but it's like they are not installed at all.
Can someone please help me on this matter ? Thanks in advance.
    Aramys

    Hi
For Supervisor Password Utility I recommend checking the Toshiba Assist.
In Secure you should see the Supervisor Password Utility.
The Remote Control Manager improves the support for a remote control on your computer.
Im not sure if you could access this application but if yes then you should check it in control panel.

  • Satellite A100 - Bluetooth Peripheral Device issue

    Hello,
I 've just installed Windows 7 on my laptop (Satellite A100-003 PSAAR).
Found and installed all drivers but when I tried to connect my mobile through bluetooth to my laptop I got an error about the specific driver "Bluetooth peripheral device " and couldn't work.
So now, 1 driver remains to be found and its this one(bluetooth pripheral device)
Any ideas from where I can update the driver?

    Yes m8. Already tried this.
I reinstalled both bluetoothstack and bluetooth monitor, But yes i still got this yellow exclamation mark for this device(bluetooth peripheral device) when i reinstalled bluetooth monitor.
By the way the software that comes up with bluetooth stack could not work neither, thats why i reinstalled bluetooth monitor. Its the one i wan to use anyway.
And there were no exclamation marks for any devices before i first tried to connect to my mobile.
All drivers were installed including bluetoothmonitor.

  • I don't know BIOS password for Satellite A100-528 PSAA2E

    hi..i have a problem...
    i have a laptop Toshiba SATELLITE A100-528 PSAA2E-01H00WGE....
the problem is that i downloaded toshiba HW setup and i accidentaly set a password..
.not a user password....it's propably supervisor password or bios password...
.the thing is that i don't know what the password is...i boot up my pc and it don't let me get in windows if i don't type the password.....is there any way to remove the password ??
it does not let me either boot from a cd or usb....i press F12 in order to choose to boot from cd or usb but it's still asks for the unknown password....is there any solution ??
    please answer it's critical !!
    thank you very much...

    >the problem is that i downloaded toshiba HW setup and i accidentaly set a password..
    >.not a user password....it's propably supervisor password or bios password...
Thats weird because the BIOS or Supervisor password can be reset only by an authorized service provider.
The BIOS password is a high security option which cannot be reset easily.
So ONLY ASP can remove a UNKNOWN password.

  • What is the BIOS Password on my Satellite A100-376?

    Hello!
Yesterday I made a BIOS update of my Toshiba Satellite A100-376 (PSAAR) to version 5.90-WIN. Everything went ok but now when I'am trying to enter BIOS Setup by pressing F2 in start, the BIOS ask me for a password but I don't know what it is because I don't have any. What's the problem? Is anything wrong? Please help me.
    Thank you!
    Tiago

    Hi there,
you are sure you didnt set a BIOS password or some of your friends/relatives? Because this is impossible that a BIOS update is setting a password. My friend has a Satellite A100-778, so he did the same update you did and he has no problems.
Maybe you should just tap "Enter" when trying to enter the BIOS. Otherwise I would say make the update again and then try to find out who set the password. :)

  • Windows vista issues on Satellite A100-036

Hi. I have a Toshiba satellite A100-036 laptop with windows vista home basic 32 bit and I have the following problems.
1.They replace me the hard disk at a store. I only have the Toshiba recovery dvd that I used to format the windows. They told me that I can't use it any more because the restore partition of the disk is lost. If I want to do a format again what do I have to do?
    2. Every time I turn on the laptop the touchpad scrolling doesn't work. I go to control panel > mouse and it shows me this message: "Unable to connect to synaptics pointing device driver. If you have installed another PS/2 pointing device driver please unistall the synaptics driver by clicking on the yes button. You then need to reinstall your pointing device driver for your external device again. Do you want to unistall the synaptics driver now?" I click No and after that it works again and the synaptics pointing device icon appear again in the task bar. If I restart the laptop it doesn't work again and I have to do the same things.
    3. Every time I turn on the laptop the bluetooth doesn't work and the bluetooth icon doesn't appear in the task bar. I have to go to device manager, unistall the driver, go to control panel > bluetooth local com and it works again. Every time I turn on the laptop I have to do this.
    4. Every time I turn on the laptop the security center is turned off and I have to turn it on or the automatic updates are off and I have to turn them on.
    5. Some times it doesn't install the automatic updates and it shows me the error code 8000FFFF.
    Could anybody help me? Thanks.

If you have created the Toshiba Recovery Disk in the past, you can use it in connection with new HDD. The Toshiba Recovery Disk would set the notebook back to factory settings which mean that you will get installed Windows system, Toshiba drivers and additional software.
    >2. Every time I turn on the laptop the touchpad scrolling doesn't work. I go to control panel > mouse and it shows me this message: "Unable to connect to synaptics pointing device driver. Go to Toshiba EU driver page and download the Synaptics touchpad driver. Install the touchpad driver and reboot the notebook. Usually this should fix your issue.

This is strange. Usually the BT should work if BT stack was installed properly. Please note that you have to enable the BT using FN key (FN+F8). This combination enables and disables the WLan too. So ensure you did it correctly.

  • Satellite A100-785 PSAANE - CD/DVD drive issue

    Hello Friends,
I own a Toshiba Satellite A100-785 PSAANE and its configurations are as follows:
    1.87 Ghz C2D, 1 Gb Ram (512 + 512), Windows Vista Basic, CD/DVD read/write...
Issue: Its been quite long, i m facing a certain problem with my Optical Drive. When ever I insert an CD which is originally produced by any company it works fine. The moment I insert any CD which is personally burned with some data from any normal CD/ DVD writer or the CDs which were previously created by the same laptop mentioned above, its been read as a blank disc. The data of the disk is not shown.
For eg: Lets say if I insert any software cd like my webcam's cd or my printer's cd they can be read normally and work fine. But the moment I enter any cd which is been burned by me which contains my personal files, that is been read as a blank disc.
This issue does not exists with any of the DVDs. Doesn't matter which every dvd I insert either being a normal software dvd or being the one which is burned as a personal data dvd, everything works fine and all the data in dvd can be read.
I have tried reinstalling the driver, I have tried reformatting my laptop using the Toshiba Recovery CD provided with the laptop, but the issue still exists.
In between few months ago, I tried doing some tweak, like first i insert the cd in the drive and then disable the cd drive and then enabling it again would actually read the cd. But after few tries, this also stopped working.
Now I really have no idea what should I do to make my CDs work normally.
I hope this post can help me out.
    Your help will be appreciated
    Thanks for your precious time
    Regards
    Jeetendra

For me it sounds like a DVD, where the data has been burned, were not fully compatible.
I meet such issue on different computers. A friend of mine has had the similar problem with an non Toshiba notebook. Its matter of the disks which are used for burning.
I tested several brands and now Im using TDK and Verbatim because my CD/DVD drive supports these kind of disk properly.
Of course it could be an hardware issue too but in such case you will need to replace the CD/DVD drive

  • Graphics card issue - Satellite A100-313 shuts down by itself

    I have a satellite A100-313 and I'm using vista.
Everytime when I play games, the notebook shuts itself off after some time. It varies, normally have 10-20min of playing.
And when I immediately turn it on again, I get a black screen but the computer is running. I'd have to wait a while to turn it on again for the screen to work.
So it starts up again and the resolution is changed to 1024x764 (the native resolution is 1280).
I assume it is a graphics card issue (I have a Geforce 7600 Go). I already updated to the latest vista drivers available from the Toshiba site (the one from september).
What can I do to fix this? The automatic shutdown normally only happens when I play games.
    Any help is appreciated.

    Hm, sounds tricky.
I can suggest you the following:
Download the latest bios for your machine from the toshiba download site:
    http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/download_drivers_bios.jsp
And last but not least, check if your cooling system of your machine is not clobbed with dust. You can clean it up with a can with compressed air to remove the dust from the fan and the heatpipe-fin.
If you have some questions, just ask.
    Nice weekend

  • Unable to set supervisor password on Satellite L755 BIOS

Hi, I'm hoping that someone can help me with this issue - I have a toshiba L755 laptop, and was setting up the security protocols on the bios but was unable to set up the supervisor password.
I registered the user password, as well as the hdd password - both user and master passwords worked for the hdd password, but when I try to select (by pressing the down arrow from the user password on the bios password section) the supervisor password, it just skips over it.
Please, any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried to set supervisor password using option in Toshiba Assist > secure > Supervisor password? It is small Toshiba utility designed for supervisor password registration.

    Computer is a satellite pro C660-29W PSC1ME-00U00KEN
I've set a BIOS supervisor password (no user password is set). I know the password.
If I hit F2 it enters the text editor but does not give any opportunity to enter the password, and so whilst I can view everything there is no way to change anything.
    Any suggestions?

  • Satellite A100 is locked due to the fingerprint BIOS & user password

    Hi all
I've got my A100 at my job, with TouchChip fingerprint recognition a year ago. On the initial installation I have recorded my fingerprint from the windows interface.
Six months ago, I had to reinstall windows XP because of a non repairable virus infection. I've installed WXP and downloaded all the drivers and additional software from Toshibas site.
I have NOT recorded again my fingerprint, and I have NOT enabled the TouchChip software this time. My entire problem was only an annoying message at logon time that said "You haven't recorded your fingerprint yet . . ." and that was all.
After a 2 week trip out of town ( My A100 was locked in my desk, powered OFF-no connection to mains) at the first boot, TouchChip software came back from the grave ! ! !
"TouchChip Bios Extension" screen appeared after power on, and my finger is required to load in WXP ! ! !
At WXP user logon dialogue the additional message "You haven't recorded your fingerprint yet . . . is still here, but I can NOT boot the machine at all, without my fingerprint. After some digging in PowerProtector suite (?) I found an option that said "Enable or Disable the use of fingerprint for BIOS System and User passwords" or something like that.
I disable this, and the machine asks for reboot. This was the last time I saw the desktop.
After the boot the system asks for password. BUT I HAVE NOT SET ANY SYSTEM OR USER PASSWORD!
    Is this possible?
    I've done something wrong?
    What's the solution?
I'm locked out; I don't know why and how the BIOS is locked with a password (so I can't unlock it).
    Please somebody help.
    Regards, Georgios

I don't know what exactly A100 notebook you have but it looks like the notebook was delivered with the preinstalled Vista OS.
You have installed XP and the single XP drivers from the Toshiba page.
But from my understanding the BIOS must be updated too! The Satellite A100 series supports an special XP BIOS version. If the BIOS was not updated then the notebook could run not correctly.
I don't know if this could have a bad influence on the fingerprint but nothing is impossible!
However, fact is that BIOS asks for the password. If you don't know this you will have to delete it on other way...and this can be done only by an authorized service provider in your country.
Ask the technicians for the help and explain the whole story! Maybe they will remove the password for free!
    Bye and good luck

  • Function keys issue on a Satellite A100-049

Hello, I am new to this forum so please bear with me if I am in error.
I have just bought a Satellite A100-049 and inadvertently pressed the F10 key. The LED below the key illuminated and I discovered to my horror that I could not type certain letters and, worse, I could not turn off F10, whatever that is! I eventually had to restart.
I can see what F1 to F9 do from the drop down list at the top of the screen, but I cannot work out what F10, F11 and F12 do, and am in constant fear of pressing them again! The handbook and Toshiba web site don't seem to offer any help, although it is probably because I don't know where to look.
Can any of you kind experts out there fill me in?
    Many thanks,
    John

Thank you for that. You are quite right.
I have just downloaded the handbook for this model. I didn't earlier because I thought it would be just the same as the handbook supplied with the computer, but it isn't; it contains much more information, including the answer to my question.
Funny, though, that the F10 function would not turn off (by pressing Fn + F10).
    Anyway, thanks for your response.
    John

  • Bluscreen issue on Satellite A100

    Hi,
I just both a Satellite A100 - 788, 8 of 10 times when I am trying to play something in media player I get a blue screen with a message regarding a problem with a file called aativvaxx.dll .... Page fault in nonpage area..... I tried to find a newer driver for the ATI X1400 card but I didn't find any.
    Please help!
    Thanks in advance,
    Eugen

    Hi
    Did you mean the ativvaxx.dll?
I found a useful page which provides a single .dll files:
    http://www.afreedll.com/dll/info/ativvaxx_dll.html
You could try to download this file and could replace the old version with the downloaded version.
But you should firstly check if the downloaded file is a newer version and backup the file before replacing it with a new copy.
But generally you should always use the graphic driver from the Toshiba page.
If you want to use another drivers, you can do it at you own risk.
