Satellite A100-250: Display resolution 640x480 under W2k

Today, I purchased a Toshiba Satellite A100-250.
Since I have quite some software I want to run on it that works far better under Windows 2000, I installed Win2k on the laptop.
And since a fresh Windows Install gave me a 640x480 resolution, I went to the ATI-site to download the Radeon Drivers.
But, when I downloaded those (6-2_xp-2k_dd_ccc_wdm_enu_30152.zip) and tried to install it, I got two errors.
The first one is: "Severe. INF error. Video driver not found."
The second one is: "Severe. Setup was unable to complete the installation. Try to setup your display adapter with a standard VGA driver before running setup."
So I checked the Device Manager. Under "Other devices", there's a listing of "Video Controller (VGA Compatible)".
No matter what I try (Windows Update, Windows CD, standard inf files), I can't get a video driver running.
Can someone please tell me what's going on here?
And can anyone give me a solution?

Hi
As far as I know it's not advisable to use not Toshiba graphic drivers.
The other drivers are designed for the usage on the desktop PCs and not for the notebooks.
The graphic cards on the notebooks are not similar with the desktop PC graphic cards.
The problem is that I don't found a Toshiba graphic driver for the W2k for this unit.
But I have got a idea.
You can use the Windows XP on you unit. The best way is to use the Toshiba recovery CD. The Windows XP supports a compatibility mode.
If you right click on an exe file and choose the properties so you will see the compatibility tab.
There you can enable the option and choose the W2k.

  • Satellite A100 - black display at start-up

Since two days my Toshiba A100-495 laptop / model-no. PSAA9E-18F047GR / serial-no. Y6065357Q with Windows XP SP3 shows a black display at start-up. There is even no Windows start picture.
The laptop does all the booting, but after finishing and being ready for use, the display is still black. When I am pressing Fn + F5 keys, the desktop appears.
The black screen is only at cold start-up after shut-down, not at awakening from stand-by or pause.

I have connected an external monitor (power ON) to the shut-down notebook, then started the notebook.
There was nothing to see neither on notebook monitor nor on external monitor black screen as before. After the booting was done, the desktop appears after pressing Fn+F5 for about three seconds.
I have not jet tried to change BIOS settings because there is no Toshiba splash screen on start-up. I am afraid I can not see what is going on or what I have to choose after accessing BIOS without display signs.

  • Satellite A100 display blank but external vga works

    Hello,
my two year old Satellite A100-847 display stopped working. I used external VGA monitor for a few days,
then switched back to laptop LCD and found out it doesnt work. It doesn't show anything , only the grey backlight.
The LCD doesn't work even at boot nor does in WIN XP, nor at battery power or AC. I have tried to dismantle the display according to some guide
to check if the signal cable is firmly at its place in the connection to LCD, but it hasn't solved the problem.
I use the original BIOS and somewhat updated nvidia display driver, they worked fine up to now, so I suggest its not a bios/driver problem.
(but maybe it is, so I tried to install original display driver with no effect. I dont want to try to flash new bios, and end up with f....ed up display and bios too)
The video output to external monitor is completely fine, from boot or in win.
Does anybody see a solution, please? Or should I only go to service provider...
    thank you
    Pepe

    Hello
In my opinion you should definitely go to the nearest Authorized service provider. They can say for sure what the problem is and, of course, order by Toshiba the right part for exchange.
It is definitely hardware issue and it can be the FL inverter, especially if you see the something on the screen but almost black and grey.

  • Satellite A100-599 - question about display driver update

    Hi,
I have a Satellite A100-599 with a NVIDIA 7600go graphic card and I have Bioshock like most of you the game crashes because of some problems with the graphic card drivers, no pb...in the meantime NVIDIA released some new patches to the Forceware and after I rechecked the Toshiba driver support database I saw a new release in the Display driver list for WinXp.
One of them seems to be from 13/09/2007. I downloaded the drivers, installed them and after I checked the driver details in the Device manager list and to my surprise the details said the drivers are from 2006. I reinstalled the drivers and the same thing appeared. I checked the XML that was in the drivers archive and surprise ...the drivers are really the old ones from 2006. So my question is this: Do you have any Display Drivers for my model that work for Bioshock :D
    Regards,Marian

I dont know if WE have. I think it would be took some long time to ask every single user: hey, do you have some drivers for blackmodjo? Ah, come on, please. Just a little bit of them... ;)
No, I have a better idea. Its like cooking a meal. The ingredients: DriverCleaner Pro and the website www.laptopvideo2go.com and .... ta ta ta TAAAA a lot of patience
To get some good "bio"shocked meal just follow this receipt:
    Go to
    http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/
read before you do anything (YES, even before you continue BREATHING) the FAQ-section on that site (RECOMMENDEDRECOMMENDEDRECOMMENDED)
and then download the drivers. Do it, yes...
Then download drivercleaner by searching for it on www.google.com and THEN, read their Manual before doing anything else (Ok, you can continue breathing..)
After reading their manual you will something like:
    1. Starting program, doing something, restarting machine
    2. starting in safe mode, starting that program, removing..yadayadayada
    3. Installing new driver
    3. Playing Bioshock
    4...
5..no..6. Thanking me and giving me your first born.. ;)
So, by cutting away around 40% of my humoristic stuff and following the constructive technical instructions from me you will be able to play bioshock.
    Greets :)

  • Network controller is not recognized on Satellite A100 under Windows XP

    Hi all!
I have purchased a Satellite A100 PSAAR and I have performed a clean install of Windows XP on it. I have installed all the drivers in the correct order(downloaded them from the support page) but I still have one problem:
In the device manager the ethernet controller and the network controller show up with a yellow exclamation mark and they are not recognized. I downloaded the lan driver and I got it to recognize the ethernet controller. However no matter how hard I tried, I cannot find the suitable driver for the NETWORK CONTROLLER which still shows up in the device manager in yellow color.
I could really use any help here...Thank you in advance.

Please note that Wireless Lan card is placed under the Network adapters too!!!
If you have installed the LAN (Ethernet) driver and the card was installed you should also check if a WLan card driver is needed!!!!
    By the way:
If the LAN card was not recognized try this Intel Lan driver:

  • 640x480 Display Resolution when installing Tiger... which is NUTS!

I bought a ViewSonic 22" Pro Series Display about a year ago, and when I went to upgrade to Tiger 10.4.x today, the desktop display windows and icons were SO HUGE that I almost couldn't access the buttons on the installation disc windows... the DVD installer default display resolution seems to be set to 640x480... which is NUTS!!!!
Why has Tiger defaulted to the lowest possible resolution? And how can I fix it?
I tried to add the ColorSync Profile to the /System/Library/ColorSync/Profiles/ and the /System/Displays/ folders, but I can't calibrate the display or change to the "ViewSonic P220f @ 9300K Profile" file I downloaded from ViewSonic.
Inside the /System/Library/Displays/Overrides/ there are several files that I cannot open with any application I have -- though I haven't tried Terminal yet.
    Can anyone help with this?
I tried some of the tips from these discussions "Factory Default profile is missing" -- but no luck yet.

    yet.
OK. It seems that I did not make it clear:
When I was INSTALLING the new Tiger (OSX 10.4.3), the default resolution was so low, that the buttons were HUGE.
The top and bottom of the Welcome screen were cut off. I could not even see the "Continue" button at the bottom of the window, and I could only continue by hitting the "Return" key on my keyboard.
If the button had not been pre-selected, I would not have been able to continue with the installation. There is NO WAY to scroll down or move the window up to select the button.
The "Install Tiger" window filled the entire screen, but luckily, I could access the buttons.
I did try a couple of Terminal commands from other discussions, but they did not fix the problem.
I've reset the PRAM and I am considering resetting the PMU on the logic board (using the apple info article #95307 guidelines).
However, I haven't read anywhere in the discussions if this is an actuall help or not.
PS: My computer model is listed at the bottom of this discussion window as it was at the bottom of the first discussion window. The video card is the either the Radeon 9000 Pro or NVIDIA GeForce4 Ti. I haven't changed it, and I don't remember which one it is - my G4 computer is not working at this time, and I may have to do a clean install of OS X 10.4 Tiger to get it back up and running.
Just a note about me: I've been working on Macs since 1987, and in 1984, I assembled my first DOS computer from Heathkit/Zenith. I have a Technician's Certificate to assemble and repair electronic gaming machines, juke boxes, video games and pinball machines. I know my way around elecronics and I'm doing pretty well with software and operating systems - mostly self-taught.
So, although I am extremely comfortable working in earlier versions of the Mac operating system (6.x-9.x), OS X is still a little new for me - and completely different from the earlier OS's. So I'm teaching my self Unix and trying to understand how the new OS works.

  • Satellite A100-153: What are verical and horizontal refresh rates for my display

How can I found out what are verical and horizontal refresh rates for my display?

    Hi
Do you mean the vertical and horizontal display resolution???
Anyway all informations should be listed in the user manual.
I dont know exactly what appendix is it but it must be placed somewhere at the end of the user manual.
Such infos are listed also in my user manual which was delivered and preinstalled on my Satellite notebook.

  • Satellite A100 (PSAA9E) - Can't install display driver for Windows 7

I have a problem with installing official Toshiba Windows 7 x32 ATI x1600 driver.
After unpacking it should install.exe be executed, I believe, but it's not; nothing happens. Going to Setup.exe with manual install, then I don't see Catalyst Control Center & Display Driver in the list, just Catalyst install Manager & vcredist. After installation these components (CCC & DD) are not present.
    Any ideas?
P.S. Same problem with official Toshiba Vista32 ATI x1600 driver.

    Hi mate,
Have you already installed other drivers for the notebook? I mean the chipset driver, this driver must be installed first.
And are you sure that you have ATI display driver? Some Satellite A100 models were delivered with nVidia graphic card as far as I know.
By the way, what happens if you install the driver manual in device manager via advanced installation?

  • Can not install latest ATI mobility Radeon x1600 display driver for my Satellite A100

    Hello,
my Satellite A100-704 PSAA9E is equipped with the ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 display graphic card, for which ATI provides a new driver, named Catalyst 8.3. My issue is that when I run the verification software I get a message telling me that driver is not suitable to be installed on my system.
Is that any information available about it? Can I still install the new Catalyst driver or it's better if I don't? Oh, the current driver I have running on my notebook is the one downloaded from the Toshiba site, 8.292 I believe.
Any information is appreciated. Thank you very much.

    > Can I still install the new Catalyst driver or it's better if I don't?
I dont recommend the installation of any 3rd party graphic drivers. The fact is that such drivers are not tested and not certified and nobody knows how such driver would affect the notebooks hardware in worst case it could lead to the GPU overheating and damage
    best regards

  • No display after linux install on Satellite A100

    Hi All,
On the weekend I decided to install linux on an extended partition on my toshiba satellite a100. I did a fresh install of windows from the recovery cd and everything worked fine. I then installed linux on an extended partition and my computer displays nothing when starting up - (the LCD has a back-light) and I get all the beeps and it reads from CD's etc. The strange thing is that I can plug it into an external monitor and it works fine. When I start it up with an external monitor I can then switch to the LCD and I get a display but it is very slow and has many imperfections.
I have updated the bios, installed the latest graphics drivers (ati) but still have no improvement. Since the linux install I have removed the extended partition and installed windows from the recovery cd again (still not improvement).
Does anybody have any suggestions as to what I can try next?
Thank you in advanced for your help.

You ask what you can do??
Delete and format the whole HDD and reinstall the OS from the recovery CD.
If you want to use the Linux, I would recommend using a Knoppix. You can get it on the Live CD and its not necessary to install it on the HDD.

  • Satellite A100 - Display damaged, which PN can I use to replace it?

    Hi
I have a Satellite A100-151 (PSAA9A-01Z01DGR). The display is damaged. Which Part-Numbers can I use to replace it? Exact PN please. Thank you in advance

You can buy a display from the ASP in your country.
The guys could order compatible Satellite A100 parts directly from the Toshiba head stock.
I have goggled a little bit and found these useful details about Toshiba Satellite A100 LCD screens:

  • Satellite A100-590 - cannot install Display Driver for Win7

I installed Win7 on my Satellite A100-590 (PSAA9E-03Z00QGR) today. Everything works fine exept for the display drivers.
I downloaded the win7/32bit drivers from here: [here|http://at.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/jsp/SUPPORTSECTION/discontinuedProductPage.do?service=AT&BV_UseBVCook ie=yes&PRODUCT_ID=115970] But when I try to install them, the files extract and then nothing happens.
Anybody else have this problem or even better a solution? will any other drivers work on that laptop?
edit: graphic card is a ATI Mobility Radeon X1600

Extract the files into some new created folder. Open it and use setup.exe.
What happen when you start it manually using setup.exe?
You can also try to start setup in folder Bin.
