Satellite A100-750 PSAAR, 4GB RAM installed, 3GB RAM usable

I've just upgraded the RAM of my Satellite A100-750 from 2x1GB to 2x2GB.
The BIOS recognizes 4GB of RAM
but then the BIOS output states "3GB system RAM passed".
My Windows 7 Pro 64bit OS says that there are 4GB RAM, but only 3GB are used.
How can I use all my 4GB RAM?
It shouldn't be an OS issue but maybe a BIOS one.
I've tried to update my BIOS (now System BIOS version 6.0),
but with no success.
Any suggestion?
Thank you very much in advance,
Carlo

Dear Andrej,
thank you for this link.
It seems that my BIOS doesn't support the memory remapping feature,
or at least I can't find it anywhere in the BIOS setup (any help?).
At this point my question is if Toshiba will deliver in the near future
a BIOS able to setup memory remapping for Satellite A100 series,
or if it is possible to enable this feature using the BIOS of another series.
Frankly it seems to me quite odd that Toshiba sells a laptop
certified to support 4GB of RAM and 64bit mode instruction set
but at the same time it doesn't provide a BIOS able to actually exploit 4GB of RAM.
How can I setup memory remapping on my laptop?
Thank you to everybody,
Carlo

  • Need Win XP driver for Satellite A100-025 (PSAARE)

I have a toshiba satellite a100-025 (psaare) with windows vista.
I want to download drivers for windows xp because I have a licensed version of software with sp2:
I don't linke vista 'cause it uses too many resources of the core and too many sectors of the memory.
So I want drivers for xp but I can't download 'em, because I can't find my notebook model in the download page of the site.
My question is: How can I have drivers for XP?

    Youre right Antonio Luigi
At this time your notebook is not listed in the Windows XP driver form :(
But dont worry and be cool B-)
It seems that Toshiba updates the drivers and released the new version every day.
I think in the next time you should be able to download the XP drivers for your notebook.
But if you want you can test the drivers from another Satellite A100 or Equium A100 series.
I think these notebooks are very similar and possibly the single drivers will run
By the way; its very funny because many people want to update the XP to Vista and not to DOWNgrade the Vista to XP.
    However ;)

  • 786GTM-E45 4GB Ram Installed 3GB reported by XP

I have a 785GTM-E45 mobo with 4GB of RAM installed. The BIOS reports 4GB but Windows XP sp3 reports only 3GB.  have verified that each memory stick is good and that 2GB can be read in each slot.
Have Win XP sp3, 2x2048 Corsair DDR2 modules, AMD Phenom X4 9850 Quad processor.
Anybody ever see this and discover the culprit?
    Thanks

It can vary from one PC to the next, for instance mine shows 2.98 GB available. Normal average range would be from that to about 3.2 GB or so.

  • Installed 3gb ram, but only 2gb usable?

I installed an additional GB of ram on my thnkpad T400, and after booting up, I right clicked computer in the start menu and went to properties. It says "3GB installed (2GB usable)".  How do I make all 3 GB usuable? from what I understand 3 GB is the max on a 32 bit OS
EDIT: Now after going to system configuration>boot tab>advanced>i set the total memory to 3000MB, and now under properties on my computer it says "3GB installed (2.46 usable)
    T400

Not that it helps, but I've got some notes about this issue on my T400,  and what sort of RAM I could make available.  Note that I'm running Win 7 Pro 64 now, not Vista 64 as it says in the notes.  You couldn't make me go back to Vista or any 32 bit OS if it was the last OS on earth

  • Does Satellite A100-812 (PSAAR) PCI slot supports MXM standard

    Hi,
I have a Satellite A100-812 at the moment and I was wondering if the PCI-e slot matches 1 of the mxm standarts.
And if so, could it be replaced with another graphics card, say an 8600M GT?

    Hi Marien
The Satellite A100 does not support the MXM (Mobile PCI Express Module) interface and the graphic card replacement or upgrade is definitely not possible!!!
The graphic card is fixed and soldered on the board and you cannot remove it!
If you want you could use the forum advanced search option and could search for similar threads regarding this theme.
But I assume you will find always the same info which is; GPU upgrade is not possible
Best regards and have a nice day!!

  • HELP. More RAM installed, more RAM is used!

I installed 1GB RAM on my computer, so now I have 1.25GB.
I noticed that frequently the computers takes all the available RAM, even when I just use one or two applications. The actually used RAM is maybe a third of the "allocated" RAM.
Is this normal? Or is there an issue with this particular stick?
    Regards

If you haven't already, you should read this Apple article on memory usage: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107918
As a related aside, while you're in the activity monitor, as you look at the system memory tab, note the page ins/outs. The numbers reset when you reboot, however, what's important is the relationship between the two. Page outs are when the system has to write part of memory to the hard drive, which reduces overall performance. In a perfect world full of memory, page outs would be zero. But, the world isn't perfect, so depending on the tasks you run, you'll have page outs. Generally, if the page outs are 10% or greater of page ins, you can use more memory (In your case, you've maxed out your memory). With your larger memory, your page outs should be reduced, so you may see better performance.

Does Windows XP 32Bit still use all 4 GB but only showes 3GB?  Or if I want to use that additional 1GB I need XP 64Bit?  If I install x64 will it work with 32 bit applications fine?
"Does Windows XP 32Bit still use all 4 GB but only showes 3GB? "
    no.
"Or if I want to use that additional 1GB I need XP 64Bit?"
    yes.
"If I install x64 will it work with 32 bit applications fine?"
yes. pretty old 16 bit application will refuse to work, also you will need to use x64 drivers.

  • Special RAM brand for Satellite A100 (PSAA9)?

    Hi,
    I have a Satellite A100-504 (PSAA9) with only 1 GB RAM. CPUZ says it's a Hyundai HYMP512S64BP8-C4 PC2-4300 module.
I want to upgrade to 2 GB and was wondering whether I have to buy some special sort of RAM? Do I have to buy also Hyundai RAM or can that be a different brand? What about the specifications? Which RAM modules would be the best in combination with Vista and that Hyundai HYMP512S64BP8-C4 1 GB module?
    Thank you for your help!
    Bob

One more thing: you can of course buy the memory modules from different manufacturers but be sure you use high quality product. I can recommend you also Kingston memory modules.

  • Satellite A100 - Bluetooth Peripheral Device issue

    Hello,
I 've just installed Windows 7 on my laptop (Satellite A100-003 PSAAR).
Found and installed all drivers but when I tried to connect my mobile through bluetooth to my laptop I got an error about the specific driver "Bluetooth peripheral device " and couldn't work.
So now, 1 driver remains to be found and its this one(bluetooth pripheral device)
Any ideas from where I can update the driver?

    Yes m8. Already tried this.
I reinstalled both bluetoothstack and bluetooth monitor, But yes i still got this yellow exclamation mark for this device(bluetooth peripheral device) when i reinstalled bluetooth monitor.
By the way the software that comes up with bluetooth stack could not work neither, thats why i reinstalled bluetooth monitor. Its the one i wan to use anyway.
And there were no exclamation marks for any devices before i first tried to connect to my mobile.
All drivers were installed including bluetoothmonitor.

  • Satellite A100-768 - need video card driver for Win 8

    Hi everybody,
I cannot find any driver suitable for my Satellite A100-768 where I just installed Win8, my graphic card should be Ati x1400 but nothing work even with Ati and/or toshiba drivers.
    Please help me!

    Hi
The old Satellite A100-768 isnt Win 8 supported notebook model.
The notebook was equipped with an ATI X1600 (code: M54P 128MB DDR RAM)graphic chip.
I dont think that ATI has developed an Win 8 compatible driver for this old graphic chip.
In my opinion you can use only an standard graphic driver which is part of Win 8 system

  • Satellite A100- New or Old Battery is not charging

    Hi,
    I have a Satellite A100-543 (PSAARE).
The original battery was not charging so I purchased a new one. Now the new one is not charging either. I then ordered a new charger before coming to this forum so Ill test that when it arrives but I think the problem will not be solved.
With the new Battery the Icon says "10% Usable, connected, charging". The Icon, when the laptop is first switched on, shows the charge bar moving (charging) but after a few moments stops.
With the old Battery the Icon says " connected, charging". It shows empty.
In both cases the Battery Green LED is on.
If I pull out the charger from the laptop the computer stops immediately.
Trawling the forums I see one proposed solution is a BIOS upgrade. I have BIOS version 5.80
    See: http://www.laptoprepair101.com/laptop/2006/05/23/toshiba-satellite-a105-battery-charging-problem/comment-page-19/#comment-151154
However I cannot find my model (as above) on Toshiba's list! It was purchased in France and is out of warranty.
Again I am dubious than this will solve the problem.
Others point to the motherboard. How can I know this? If it is does anybody have an idea of cost?
I do hope that someone can help.
    Henry

I'm not going to immediately help but I think I have the same problem on my A200 Equium model 1V0, running Vista.
Existing battery has gone down to 5% power and of course I get warnings so I run on mains but I can run the laptop on the battery for a few minutes.
The charging light comes on for about 9 seconds and then goes out. The charging status changes from "on mains power, charging 5%" to "on mains power, not charging".
It's odd that I can flip the battery out while the mains is attached and when I re-insert it, there's a charging light and charging status is ok for 9 seconds. If I do this often enough I can boost the battery to 10% but then the charging light only flickers on for a moment and there's no further actual charging. I think the main board charging circuit can't handle any more than a small feedback charge.
I bought a new battery - the laptop won't run on this without mains power (in fact the charging light now only appears for a moment and no charging at all takes place).
I uninstalled and re-installed the power ACPI from device manager - no change.
I turned off laptop, removed battery and mains power and held down the power button for 15 seconds - no change.
I checked my mains adapter using a circuit tester - OK.
Oh, and I updated the BIOS to the latest version 2.5 - no change.
It looks like the main board charging circuit has a fault which is uneconomical to repair.
Unless someone out there knows differently??

  • What is the BIOS Password on my Satellite A100-376?

    Hello!
Yesterday I made a BIOS update of my Toshiba Satellite A100-376 (PSAAR) to version 5.90-WIN. Everything went ok but now when I'am trying to enter BIOS Setup by pressing F2 in start, the BIOS ask me for a password but I don't know what it is because I don't have any. What's the problem? Is anything wrong? Please help me.
    Thank you!
    Tiago

    Hi there,
you are sure you didnt set a BIOS password or some of your friends/relatives? Because this is impossible that a BIOS update is setting a password. My friend has a Satellite A100-778, so he did the same update you did and he has no problems.
Maybe you should just tap "Enter" when trying to enter the BIOS. Otherwise I would say make the update again and then try to find out who set the password. :)

  • Need better video card driver for Satellite A100

    Hi,
I got an old Toshiba Satellite A100... and I installed omega ATI drivers for better performance but its not working out, games crash due to overheating I believe...
I am wondering if there are any other drivers from other Toshiba Satellite series that would work on the A100 and they would be better.
    ATI and Toshiba made drivers.

ok i installed ati drivers from toshiba website...
omega ati is not in add/remove programs anymore nor do i go to it when i open screen properties...
it looks like its gona... altho i might be mistaken...
    2 questions...
1.i got cpuid hardware monitor...what is in acceptable temperature for processor for A100 series?
    2. is there another way to find out if omega is gone? ccleaner did not detect it ... or it was allready gone.

  • Can I install 4GB RAM in my Satellite A100-033?

I have a Satellite A100-033 (PSAANE-03J02GEN). The manual says that it will support only 2GB RAM maximum. Does anyone know if it will in fact support 4GB? I have installed 2x1GB instead of the supplied 2x512MB, and am tempted to install 2x1GB? Will this work, or is there some restriction in the motherboard or BIOS which means that the larger RAM won't be recognised? Can anyone help?

Thanks. I agree that the fact that my laptop's specification says "2GB maximum RAM" is a bad sign, but I have found in the past that specifications aren't always completely accurate, which is why I enquired.
My processor is a 1.6GHz Intel T2060. A check on my laptop (by the program "Belarc Advisor") says that my motherboard is an Intel Capell Valley (NAPA) CRB, and that my BIOS is a Phoenix 6.00 07/12/2007. Is there any way whereby I can find out if this combination will in fact recognise 4GB of RAM?
I know that 4GB only yields a little over 3GB usable RAM, but I would still like to increase the amount of RAM which I have, if this is possible, but obviously I don't want to spend money on 2BG chips which then don't work in my laptop.
    Any suggestions gratefully received!

  • Max capacity of RAM for Satellite A100 PSAANH-04Y03F?

    Hello,
I have finally decided to upgrade the ram from my A100 that I bought back in 2007.
The problem is that I don't how what the maximum capacity is.
I suspect that it is 2GB, but I'm curious about if it'll take 4GB.
The reason why I haven't found any information myself is because I have no clue what model my A100 is.
It says "Satellite A100 SYSTEM UNIT MODEL NO. *PSAANH-04Y03F*" on the bottom of the notebook.
Googling that gives me 0 search results :/
    Help would be greatly appreciated!

What chipset has been built in the notebook?
The max RAM depends on the chipset.
You can use an tool like *Everest Home Edit* to check the chipset.
Then you could search for chipset properties.
