Satellite A100-785 PSAANE - CD/DVD drive issue

Hello Friends,
I own a Toshiba Satellite A100-785 PSAANE and its configurations are as follows:
1.87 Ghz C2D, 1 Gb Ram (512 + 512), Windows Vista Basic, CD/DVD read/write...
Issue: Its been quite long, i m facing a certain problem with my Optical Drive. When ever I insert an CD which is originally produced by any company it works fine. The moment I insert any CD which is personally burned with some data from any normal CD/ DVD writer or the CDs which were previously created by the same laptop mentioned above, its been read as a blank disc. The data of the disk is not shown.
For eg: Lets say if I insert any software cd like my webcam's cd or my printer's cd they can be read normally and work fine. But the moment I enter any cd which is been burned by me which contains my personal files, that is been read as a blank disc.
This issue does not exists with any of the DVDs. Doesn't matter which every dvd I insert either being a normal software dvd or being the one which is burned as a personal data dvd, everything works fine and all the data in dvd can be read.
I have tried reinstalling the driver, I have tried reformatting my laptop using the Toshiba Recovery CD provided with the laptop, but the issue still exists.
In between few months ago, I tried doing some tweak, like first i insert the cd in the drive and then disable the cd drive and then enabling it again would actually read the cd. But after few tries, this also stopped working.
Now I really have no idea what should I do to make my CDs work normally.
I hope this post can help me out.
Your help will be appreciated
Thanks for your precious time
Regards
Jeetendra

For me it sounds like a DVD, where the data has been burned, were not fully compatible.
I meet such issue on different computers. A friend of mine has had the similar problem with an non Toshiba notebook. Its matter of the disks which are used for burning.
I tested several brands and now Im using TDK and Verbatim because my CD/DVD drive supports these kind of disk properly.
Of course it could be an hardware issue too but in such case you will need to replace the CD/DVD drive

  • Satellite A200-1M8 PAE6E: CD/DVD drive issue - power calibration error

    Hi,
I have an Satellite A200-1M8 ( or A200 PAE6E ) with Vista and for some time I've been trying to burn some dvds which I failed due to power calibration error.
I tested my DVD-ROM and it works normally, the problem is it does not read (recognise) every dvd.
Is there anyone who can help me out about this?
Or how can I learn which type of media my DVD-ROM would read?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi
I think I have founded an interesting article for you:
[Is there a list of supported type of CD-R/-RW or DVD-R/+R/-RW/+RW/-RAM discs which should be used?|http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/ann.jspa?annID=36]
But generally a power calibration error means that its the media is faulty or not compatible with the drive.

  • CD/DVD driver for Satellite A100-785

Hi. We bought 10 laptops for our school. Those pc's come with windows vista home basic version. We need to install windows xp sp2 on them, but the problem is that we don't have the drivers. The recovery cd theat comes with those pc's was windows vista recovery CD. We tried to download the drivers from the Net and they were fine except cd/dvd driver. With windows vista we wre able to drag and drop files on rewritable cd or dvd and it was working fine. After installing windows xp on them, we can't use cd/dvd as writer the system consider it as normal CD where actually it is cd/dvd ReWritable. we can read from cd/dvd bur we can't write. I didn't install any other software like nero ... etc. The model of all those pc's are the same :
    Toshiba satellite A100-785
    Model Number : PSAANE-02M012AR

    Hi,
usually if you have a XP machine and a burner installed then this procedure should give you the ability to burn:
    http://dallas.tamu.edu/e-learn/WinXP-CD_Burn.html
If you really cannot burn CDs maybe the service is deactivated and must be re-activated:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/279157
I read in the last rows of that article something about, that you have to check a box to turn that ability on.

Thanks Dennis, this link that you have posted, I had tried that before I posted my thread in the forum,,,,,,,the link was not helpful. What I did to get English version I used intel web site to download english version.
It seems to me when Toshiba manufactures specific version (model) of Laptops for middle east region, some drivers are in arabic, you can not get English version from Toshiba site, because that model of laptop only for middle east region.
Same thing happened with my printer 1201 from another manufacturer(I forgot exact model number), the driver on the CD is in arabic, there is no english version on the CD, as far as I remembered I tried manufacturers website for English version I could not find it.
One more thing I want to add , now I am in Australia-Sydney, I could not find same my laptop's model here in the market;that means the laptop that I bought it from middle east , was manfuctured for middle east region only, therfore some drivers are in arabic language.
This is my 2 cent conculsion.

  • Re: Satellite A100-033 PSAANE: Realtek Stereo Mix Audio has become "Lost"

Following an encouraging reply to a forum question, I have replaced the original 60G hard drive in my Toshiba Satellite A100-033 PSAANE with a 500G drive.
All is well, except that I no longer have "Stereo Mix Realtek High Definition Audio" in the Recording tab in the Sound option in Control Panel.
It means that I can't record any sound at all, if I try to capture sound, for example using NCH's Debut Video Capture Software.
If I replace the original 60G drive, Realtek Stereo Mix is there and I can record okay. If I plug in my external sound card, I can record sound with that. If (in my new 500G drive) I look at Device Manager in Control Panel, Realtek High Definition Audio is listed under Sound Video & Game Controllers. So it looks like the correct driver is there okay. But somehow it isn't recognised under Sound in Control Panel, and it can't be used by the software which requires it.
It may be a simple problem but it's baffling me. Can anyone help?

Thanks for the suggestions. I used the genuine Toshiba recovery disc. Actually, I have discovered what the problem was. In control panel (home) - hardware and sound - sound - recording, if you right click inside the box, you get the option to show disabled devices and disconnected devices. My Realtek drivers were shown as disabled. Once I ticked to show disabled drivers, my Realtek was shown, and I could then select it as default. It's not something which is at all obvious, but I will try to remember it for next time.

  • ITunes for 64bit Windows 7 Driver/CD/DVD/Drive Issues-

    Hi There
I am sure that there are many many users out there suffering the same frustration as me in regard to ITunes just not working properly with Windoews 7 (64Bit).
I have been trying to solve the mystery of "ITunes for Windows Registry Settings Warning When Opening Itunes.
I have tried all the recommended actions to correct this problem without any success and I do mean ALL.
Below is a screen shot of my registry, can anyone see anything wrong with it?
In the meantime (Last four months) I have stopped using ITunes and instead have used Digital 7, this will be my very last attempt to get ITunes working properly, failure will mean consigning ITunes to the same place as any other Software that does not do wshat it says on the can.
    I hope someone can help.

That's good that it is in device manager, but what about in Computer with the rest of the drivers?
Also, are the drives listed in Computer and device manager or just device manager?
I want to verify if the symptoms are present for a particular software issue before looking at other issues.  I really doubt it is a driver issue at this point.  If it was, then I suspect the issue would be present from day one.
It could be that the lens has dust buildup preventing it from working properly.  They do make CD cleaning kits that have a special CD designed to clean the laser as it passes over the lens.  If you happen to have one of these, or access to one, I recommend trying this step to make sure it isn't as simple as dust buildup interfering with the laser.
It could also be hardware failure, but I would like to try a few other steps before coming to that conclusion.
It may be worth reviewing this document as it covers a lot of the most common issues behind DVD drive issues. Feel free to skip any steps you have already tried.
    Let me know what happens.

The CD is ejected after a short while and never mounted. I have cleaned the optics of the CD drive and reset my PRAM.

  • Any solution to DVD drive issue post Lion install yet?

Any solution to DVD drive issue post Lion install yet?

Since installing Lion no DVDs are being read by the superdrive, this is a problem that has been highlighted by quite a lot of people.
    CDs are being read fine.
After inserting the DVD there is some noise, sounds like it is trying to pickup the DVD then spits it back out.

  • Re: Cd/DVD drive issue - error code 39 on Satellite P series

    Hi,
This is my first request for help.
My CD/DVD drive is no longer recognized and when I go to Device Manager and click on CD/DVD I am informed that the file cdrom.sys is there but cannot be loaded.
An error number 39 is reported.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated but please keep it simple to one line actions if possible.

Of course you can get some advices ;)
I think you would find it faster if you would search in the forum firstly but I will try to help you too.
    There error code 39 is very common issue and can be solved easy;
Check this MS knowledge base article:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060/en-us
So firstly remove the CD/DVD drive from the device manager.
Then access the registry using the regedit command and remove the Upperfilters and Lowerfilters values completely from the following registry key:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
Reboot the notebook and wait till the CD/DVD drive was installed again.
    Thats it. ;)

  • Satellite 2430 DVD drive issue

    Hello there,
my Satellite 2430 has got a strange DVD problem and can't figure out what is all about. All started when I tried to do a full recovery. The unit wasn't able to boot from DVD. I've checked the DVD drive with different bootable disks but still nothing. Unit doesn't want to boot from DVD drive even if F12 is pressed and DVD device selected. Not to mention that the recovery DVD is loaded normally in my desktop pc. The notebook boots up Windows OK from HDD and, what's amaizing is that inside Windows everything is OK. The DVD drive works like a dream. However, this is not enough to perform the full recovery as the recovery process can't be initialised by Windows. Hopping that the BIOS is causing the problem, I upgraded it to version 1.6, but there is no change in DVD's behaviour.
Any thoughts, before using a big-big hammer?

    Hi
Did you try to change the boot priority in the BIOS?
If not so change booting procedure to the CD drive firstly. The LAN should be on the end.

  • CD/DVD drive issue on Satellite L notebook - error code Code 39

    Hi,
Could anyone tell me if there is an updated driver for the TSSTcorp CDDVDW TS-L632H ATA Device? The device is not available as a selectable drive and in device manager it reports the following error:
Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)
I have removed the device and the driver, however on scanning for hardware; vista re-installs the default driver and the same error returns.
Because of this error, I am unable to update the firmware for the drive and the firmware update is unable to see the drive.
    Any ideas??
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi buddy
What to saythis issue is known and caused by wrong Windows registry entries.
Microsoft has released and published some knowledge articles.
    Check this:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/270008/en-us
First of all I recommend removing the CD/DVD drive from the device list in device manager. Then remove the Upperfilters and Lowerfilters values completely from the following registry key:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
    Finally reboot the notebook.
    Thats all.
PS: you would find this solution also without my help. You should use the forum search function! Its helpful!

  • Satellite L300D-11A - DVD-drive issue and Blue Screen

    Hi
I'm going out of my mind :o//
My Satellite L300D-11A was delivered with a Windows Vista Home Premium, but I recently made a clean installation of the Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bits.
Since then I have had problems with "Blue screen error's" comming randomly. Have purchased and installed a Registry clean up program, but that did not fix the problem. Any one else with that problem - and a possible solution.
And now for my big problem. My CD and DVD drive is driving me crazy ;o) It's a Mat****a DVD-RAM UJ-850S ATA and from my search on the internet I have found that a lot of other Mat****a owners have had the same or similar problem(s). My drive will not regonize or play/read from CD's. DVD with movies or programs I can play. Burning CD's is not possible and burning DVD's is sometimes working, and other times not.
I have read about the different fixes that is posted - also here on the Toshiba forum - Non of the suggested solutions is working for me - any new solutions that I could try.
Seriously thinking about buying a external USB DVD drive/burner - but can someone please tell me why Toshiba does not get the fingers out off their B** and find a solution like it seams Sony has done.
Look forward to any reply ;o))
Someone once told me about this quote - "Don't wish it was easier - work on getting clever !" I need your help to get clever ;o))

    > But I do not now how/where to get the registration keys! I have tried looking for them.
Are you talking about *Upper/Lower Filters* ?
Follow these instructions for clearing the Upper/Lower Filters:
Click on Start --> Run --> and type in 'regedit' followed by the enter key
Expand the "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE" key (looks like a folder) by double clicking it (or clicking the "+" next to it.)
    Expand the "SYSTEM" Key
    Expand the "CurrentControlSet" Key
    Expand the "Control" Key
    Expand the "Class" Key
    Please look for a key containing the following string of letter and numbers:{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
High light this key by left clicking once on it
On the right hand side you are looking for "UpperFilters" and "LowerFilters" under the "Name" column, once you find these please delete them by right clicking on them and choosing "delete"
Please exit the registry by clicking on the "X" in the top right hand corner of the screen
    Reboot your computer

  • Satellite P205D-S7802: CD/DVD drive issue; driver corrupted or missing

    Hi,
Dvd unit has not recognized by the OS.
When i open My Computer the only unit displayed is C, there's no D unit.
Then I go to device manager to check it, and I notice that the DVD unit has problems, then i open properties and the error message is:
"HL-DT-ST DVD RAM GSAT20N ATA DEVICE
Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing".
First i thought that was a hardware problem, but I introduced the windows vista disc at boot and the unit read it very well. Then I choose update driver from device manager and the updater told me that the best driver was already installed for the device.
I tried to replace the .sys and .info files for cd-roms but nothing happened either.
What is happening, please help, is urgent i need to use my dvd unit.
    Regards.

    Try this:
remove the CD/DVD drive from the device manager list
access the registry and remove the Upperfilters and Lowerfilters values completely from the following registry key:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

  • Satellite A660 - Not finding external DVD drive

Hey guys. Newbie posting out of total desperation and needing help! I have posted in other forums with no luck. I bought a Samsung SH-D162D DVD Drive in a USB enclosure to connect to my Satellite A660 via USB.
I cannot get Windows 7 to find it! When I plug in the USB cable the balloon comes up to say it has been installed (sometimes), I can see it on for about 1 or 2 minutes then it drops off. It isnt listed in my hardware or anything. Its not found in Disk Management or My Devices so it isnt a case of changing the drive letter - I cant find the drive to change it. I have also tried to find the upper and lower settings in regedit. Couldnt find them so couldnt delete them as advised in other posts of this nature.
It is set to master, the IDE connector and power connectors are fine. Its gotta be a Windows 7 problem cause it does show up very breifly. In the minute or 2 its there I cant do anything with it. It just hangs although it will open and close. Ive googled it and cant find anything. Mainly registry issues but they didnt help.
Ive also connected it up to another laptop with XP and had no problems so I know the DVD Rom works fine and all the cables are ok. Ive tried in all 4 USB ports on my laptop and also turned off all energy settings. All with no luck. And I also have every Windows 7 update.
Heres exactly what happens from power off on the enclosure.
1 - I plug in the USB lead then turn on power to the enclosure.
2 - I quickly go to Start, and I can see the DVD Rom drive E next to my laptops dvd rom.
3 - The green bar at the top starts filling up from left to right and gets about half way then suddenly the DVD Rom icon disappears and so does the green bar.
4 - It then flashes up under the laptops DVD Rom icon with a Local Disk drive E but only for a split second.
5 - Sometimes a balloon comes up saying installing device, then device successfully installed...but not every time.
And thats it. I'm at a total loss and cant work it out, so any help is really appreciated!

    Hi Smee,
So if you have already connected the external drive to another computer and this worked properly, it seems to be a driver or compatibility issue between your external DVD drive and and your Satellite A660
It will be connected to USB port so have you tried to remove all USB ports from device manager? After this you should restart your computer and the USB ports will be recognized from device manager automatically. Furthermore I would also try updating the chipset driver. Newest version you can download on official Toshiba website:
    http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com > Support & Downloads > Download Drivers
Have you also tested other devices on your A660 if they work properly?
