Satellite A100 display blank but external vga works

Hello,
my two year old Satellite A100-847 display stopped working. I used external VGA monitor for a few days,
then switched back to laptop LCD and found out it doesnt work. It doesn't show anything , only the grey backlight.
The LCD doesn't work even at boot nor does in WIN XP, nor at battery power or AC. I have tried to dismantle the display according to some guide
to check if the signal cable is firmly at its place in the connection to LCD, but it hasn't solved the problem.
I use the original BIOS and somewhat updated nvidia display driver, they worked fine up to now, so I suggest its not a bios/driver problem.
(but maybe it is, so I tried to install original display driver with no effect. I dont want to try to flash new bios, and end up with f....ed up display and bios too)
The video output to external monitor is completely fine, from boot or in win.
Does anybody see a solution, please? Or should I only go to service provider...
thank you
Pepe

Hello
In my opinion you should definitely go to the nearest Authorized service provider. They can say for sure what the problem is and, of course, order by Toshiba the right part for exchange.
It is definitely hardware issue and it can be the FL inverter, especially if you see the something on the screen but almost black and grey.

  • Satellite M30X-111 screen doesn't display anything but external monitor works

My laptop screen just doesn't display anything (look like when the computer is off) but when I connect the external monitor, then the desktop will be displayed on that monitor. I tried to recover the laptop using the recovery disk and it worked again, but today, it stopped working again.
I again have to plug in the external monitor, and after I tried to reboot, I keep pressing F8 but the start up mode doesn't come up, only the sound of when you keep pressing a button for too long beeps, however, the laptop monitor works again.
How do I fix this problem?

    Hi
According to your first posting I presume that LCD display on your notebook is defective. If you can not see BIOS settings or Toshiba welcome screen there must be some display problem.
Experiment with external display is to be sure that graphic card is not responsible for that. In your case it works with external display and graphic card can not be responsible.
Like I said try to enter bios settings and report if you can see Toshiba welcome screen.

  • Internal/External displays blank when external connected while sleeping

When I connect my external display to my MBP (late 2011) while it's sleeping, the MBP awakens but both the internal & external display are blank.
The MBP is running ML and is connected to external display via DVI. No response to external Logitech keyboard or internal keyboard. Currently my only recourse is to ssh in from a co-located Vista machine & 'sudo reboot'.
If MBP has recently been used  (say < 5 min or so), everything's fine -- external display fires up & external KBD/Mouse work.
I'd be interested in any way to prevent this problem if I forget to open MBP for a moment before connecting Power/DVI/USB. Alternately, a command
I could issue via SSH to reinitialize display would be great.
    Thanks. Kent

Pleased ignore this thread - managed to double post somehow ....? Sorry

  • Satellite A100-1011E - AV button is not working

    Hi everyone,
I am new here but I have one urgent problem. Hopefully you guys can tell me what to do. I have this laptop model SATELLITE A100-1011E. My AV button which located on left hand side of the keyboard is not working.
I am pretty sure it is still working 3 days ago but I dunno what I did and it is not working now. I don think it is a driver problem cause I just bought this laptop 5 days ago. I have checked with this "Toshiba Controls" in control panel and I have assigned to the right program (windows media player 10) but it is not working when I press any of the button.
Anyone can help me with this? :( Thank you very much.

In the Toshiba assist you will find a tab called Protect and fix
There you can use the option Create drivers & tools CD for creating such drivers CD.
I think you need a diver Button controls. You could also try to reinstall the common modules.
But before you do that please check if in the Toshiba controls the option CD/DVD was selected and the right player for DVD or CD under Media Apps.
Ps: This button will start a player only when the CD or DVD was inserted

  • Satellite A100 - Display damaged, which PN can I use to replace it?

    Hi
I have a Satellite A100-151 (PSAA9A-01Z01DGR). The display is damaged. Which Part-Numbers can I use to replace it? Exact PN please. Thank you in advance

You can buy a display from the ASP in your country.
The guys could order compatible Satellite A100 parts directly from the Toshiba head stock.
I have goggled a little bit and found these useful details about Toshiba Satellite A100 LCD screens:

    Maybe this short info helps.

  • External display mirrors but will not work side-by-side.  What is wrong?

I am using a VIZIO HD TV as a second display . Setting the TV to 1920 x 1080 (it's max) and the iMac to 1920 x 1200, the two displays work correctly in the "Mirror" mode. When I set the "Arrangement" to side by side to create another display space, the TV displays the Invalid Mode error. The behavior does not improved when the two displays are set to lower resolution levels. This same TV works fine in all modes when connected as a second display to my Mac Book Pro.
    Any ideas?

I apologize to everyone who is following this but I have a dilemma which I think Mr. Brody may be able to solve and I know of no way to contact him other than the forum.
Mr. Brody, you may be the "Geek" (compliment) I am desperately looking for, No one in our area .. and AppleCare (on all three of my units) has no answer.
I added an ASUS VH198T 19" monitor for viewing tutorials while working in Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop. DVI to mini for iMac. The ASUS runs at 60Khz and 1440x900 where the iMac is, of course 1680x1050. Each time the ASUS goes to sleep is closed, when it restarts, the iMac apparently sets it to one of it's standard resolutions 1600x900, unfortunately that's a little higher so I get flashing of the ASUS and ... WEIRD > Magic Mouse goes nuts with pointer jumping all over. Apple had a tech come by for the Mouse, wouldn't even consider the monitor, not an Apple product. Tech found nothing. I have talked with ASUS several times, they say it is the Mac and I now think they are right, especially after they sent me a replacement under terms of their warranty, very generous. It does the same! Both monitors work on our Xp Laptop, it lets me set the resolution to whatever I want.
When 'mirrored' the resolution IS set to 1440x900, works fine when return to individual UNTIL the next time it sleeps or turned off. Any suggestion???
Can Terminal allow a change from 1600 to 1440?? If so, how?? I'm not Linux or Unix literate, among other things.
    Will most gratefully appreciate,
    Ed in Pensacola

  • Display blank but phone works

i dropped my iphone and now display is dead. It still is capable of working because if i apply pressure i can see light from the screen.  Also, audio still coming from the phone.  Any ideas?

    Hi ericmine,
You can try rebooting, but you are likely going to need to make a trip to the Apple Store. To reboot (no data will be lost): Press and hold the Home and Power Buttons at the same time and continue to hold them until the Silver Apple appears (hopefully you will be able to see it - but if you don't see it by the time 25 seconds has passed, then release the buttons and wait a minute to see if it reboots and becomes visible).
If that doesn't result in your screen being visible, then you are goint to need to take it in to get looked at.

  • PB display flickers, but external monitor still OK

    Hi all,
I've just bought a faulty powerbook to see if i can fix it. It's a G4 15" 1Ghz Titanium DVI. The fault is that the powerbook display frequently becomes corrupted. it's actually a beautiful effect, but not very practical! Every few moments, minutes sometimes, the display looks as if deep colours are gradualy bleeding accross it, until it becomes unreadable. the effect is sometimes psycedelic and sometimes textured like oil on canvas!
Anyway, simply moving the angle of the display a little clears the screen and everything's visible again. At no time does the system crash or anything; if there's an external monitor conected in Display Mirroring or Extended Desktop mode it doesn't show any artifacts and continues to work perfectly. It's only the powerbook's own display that exhibits the fault.
i'm presuming therefore that the logic board is OK but that there is a loose connection somewhere (where I don't know!). Could it be the invertor board however?
does this all sound familiar to anyone?
    thanks!
    TiBook 1Ghz (DVI)   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   9600/350

Hi, efunc. If your situation is such that you could happily use the Powerbook as a very compact desktop computer with its built-in display closed and an external monitor, keyboard and mouse connected, you might be able to do so for a long time without fixing anything at all.
If you really want to use the Powerbook as a portable, you'll have to crawl inside and look around for the trouble. The fact that changing the built-in display's angle clears the problem suggests strongly that the cause is in one of the very thin, fragile cables that pass through the display hinges. These can become pinched or abraded in the very narrow passageway there (especially if the hinges are fatigued and begining to break), leading to faulty insulation and short circuits or even severed cables. There is very little room there to make any repairs, if that's the case, and cable damage is not always easy to see. Replacing the cables, one end of which is sealed inside the display bezel, is essentially impossible. A professional technician, when faced with bad display cables, replaces the entire display instead of trying to pry the bezel apart.
Because the cables are so thin, flexible and delicate, the motion of the display being opened, closed and adjusted is, in itself, very unlikely to loosen (or tighten) any of the cables' connections inside the body of the Powerbook. But a loose connection there is possible, and it wouldn't hurt to check. Complete disassembly instructions are here, and will show you where the display cable connections are located.
If you don't find a bad connection, the inverter board is the least expensive part you could replace in the hope of solving the problem. But I doubt that adjusting the screen angle would "fix" (even temporarily) a problem caused by a bad inverter, so I suspect that isn't where the fault lies.
    Good luck.
EDIT: Oh, dear — I just realized that you're the very same efunc who reports a whole different set of problems with his used 1GHz Tibook in a different thread. If all those problems are occurring in the same Tibook as the display problems discussed in this thread, most of what I've said above is out the window, and the source of all the problems could be anywhere, including the logic board, or even multiple sources.
My comments above were based on the assumption that the problem you reported in this thread was the only one you were having with the affected machine. If that assumption is wrong, disregard them.

  • Satellite A100-998: Brightness & DVD Hotkeys never worked from new

My 2-year-old Satellite's screen brightness could easily be adjusted by the Fn + F6/F7 keys, but not this new one. Also, the keyboard Play/FF/Rewind keys for the DVD player don't function.
The Toshiba Hotkey Utility shows as a 1.37 MB file on my add/remove programs list. Could a solution be to remove and re-install this program? If so, would my recovery disks, as supplied by Toshiba, allow me to re-install the Hotkey utility?
    Many thanks for all feedback.

    Hello
Sorry but I can not believe that Brightness & DVD Hotkeys never worked from new. With factory settings all should work well.
Before we start any discussion can you please check your notebook model? A100 is pretty new one and can not be 2 years old.

  • Problem importing with internal drive, but external drive works

    Hi,
I was importing a CD in iTunes and this one track refused to import, noises sounded like it couldnt read it, and i had cleaned it multiple times. Plugged in an external USB CD drive, and it worked straight away.
    Why is this?
    Thanks!
    J

I received a new hard drive and an enclosure today. However, when I plugged the new hard drive into the computer's internal SATA slot, the computer did not recognize that new hard drive. When I connected the new hard drive to the computer externally through the enclosure, the computer recognized it. Moreover, the computer also recognized my old hard drive when I connected it externally through the enclosure. So it seems that my problem does not reside in the hard drive, but in the SATA cable.
I wonder if there might be any probable reason other than bad cable? I am still able to install OS X to both the hard drive if I connect them externally.
    Thanks in advance!

  • Macbook screen won't work, but external monitor works fine...

Hey guys - are there any solutions out there for this problem that doesn't involve hundreds of dollars? A mate of mine spilled beer on a macbook - had to pay for it, I fired it up and everything works fine but the screen... Is there a way that I can check the connections or dry something off? Apple told the owner to throw it in the bin - but it works fine plugged into a monitor. The screen isn't cracked or chipped - all looks fine - I'm guessing that fluid had got into a connection somewhere. Help me Gurus!
    Cheers

Have you tried drying it without the back cover and upside down? l heard it worked for some guy

  • I removed my named.conf file and rebooted, zones blank, but dns now works...

    Folks,
After upgrading from OS X server Mountain Lion, i skipped 'Mavericks' and upgraded when Yosemite and server 4 came out...
Something whacky happened w/ my DNS(probably had temp info so i could upgrade to Yosemite...) anyway, everything worked,
EXCEPT, i could not pull up my website that i am running on said server on internal network... all worked from outside...
So... i renamed my 'named.conf' file and rebooted. EXCELLENT! everything works! EXCEPT! my DNS zones are not listed on the DNS control panel in server...
YET, EVERYTHING STILL WORKS! even after a reboot! db Files are still in named directory, but not listed in Zones panel...
at this point, since everything is working, i'm really reluctant to keep troubleshooting, but i would like to know why it's still working, and how i can rewrite the named.conf file so it will continue working... named.conf file contains:
    options {
    forwarders {
    68.XX.XXX.XXX;
i masked out the actual IP - thanks!

    Hi Moses.
Here are the crash id's.. however, since disabling all extensions apart from firebug, it's no longer crashing. However, I'm still having trouble loading javascript files... I'm testing a .js file with only an alert statement in it, and the file isn't being found. I've checked the file for funny characters, line breaks are set to Unix LF, encoding is Unicode UTF-8 no Bom. I'm using php codeigniter, not sure if that would cause issues. I just can't think what is going wrong!
I'm only using firefox so I can use firebug, so disabling firebug isn't an option. I've re-installed the latest firebug 1.5.4.

  • Satellite A100-237 multimedia keys don't work

I cannot use multimedia keys on my laptop. (Next, previous, play/pause).
Is it related with a driver.
    Can somebody help me??

    Hi
These keys will work only with the WMP or the WinDVD another applications are not supported.
In you case I would recommend checking the settings in the Toshiba controls properties under control panel. If whole settings are correct you could try to reinstall the Toshiba controls utilities.
By the way: The common modules must be installed because this application is important for most Toshiba utilities
