Satellite A100 doesn't reboot with usb device
I have a new satellite A100 notebook. I installed 2 device USB (modem ADSL and Webcam).
I can't reboot my pc with device in, because I have a black screen. The hard disk doesn't work,
and SO doesn't start.
If i reboot without device, SO starts corretely.
Can you tell me why ? and what I have to do ?
thanks.
Hello,
This include with battery and ac power? Some USB devices drain to much power so the machine can not run correctly. I want to say that any problems you have with peripheral devices can be targeted to those devices. As it is, you might just have a loose HDD as well which could result in this problem. Take the devices out and start the computer, once it is started check all the settings and make sure they are correct. Check the USB devices on another computer that is the exact same and see if the problem persists on this machine. If so, it is your devices that are faulty. If not, your computer has a problem. First try and reinstall your OS from scratch using your recovery CD. But first back up all your data prior. After the reinstallation try the devices again, if they still malfunction, try other USB devices to see if the result is the same. If so take the computer to your ASP. And have them test your USB ports. You might have a faulty MB or some other problem. Thanks and I hope this helps.

Satellite A30: Doesn't recognise any USB devices.
My computer doesn't recognise any of the devices when connected to the USB Port on my Satellite A30. After dowloading SP2 I was able to install the printer but I can't use it because there is no printer icon on the tool bar. If i want to print anything i get the printer window, i select the print then it goes to MS Office Image writer. Basically, I can't use my printer or any other device connected to a USB port.
However, It was working perfectly well when I had the XP home edition but I can't reinstall that one because there is something wrong with the recovery disk that's why I had to install the XP Pro.
Also, I used to get a sound, letting me know that a device has been connected. I don't get that anymore nor the icon on the toolbar.
Is there anything I could do to resolve this issue please? Is it possible to obtain another recovery disc somehow? Obviously this is something to do with XP Pro software but I don't know what to do.
Could you please help me?
Thank you!Hello Juan!
This is what the problem is the only printer window i have is the MS Office Image Writer. I do not have any other printer window. If I use add a printer, then the wizzard can't detect a USB device.
I have just checked the link you gave me and did exactly what it said but it just doesn't help. It is not just my printer, it doesn't detect any device i connect to it. For example, I can't update my ipod anymore because the computer doesn't detect the ipod when it is connected.
I really don't know what the problem is! It was working perfectly fine before the upgrade and for the upgrade i have used the official MS Windows XP disk.
You woudn't know how to format the HDD by any chance, would you?
Thank you for your help -
New iMac 27" won't reboot with USB devices attached
I have a 3 day old 27" iMac, that I dearly love. However, I noticed when I reboot and I have any external HD's attached via USB, it will not reboot. It gets to the white screen and hangs. I can pull them out and hit the power switch and it will boot normally. Any suggestions?
I have had my 27" I7 iMac for less than 24 hours and after several attempts at migrating my home folder and applications from my 3 year old iMac 24" running 10.6.2, I am having the same problem with the white screen.
When I finished migrating all my stuff, I hooked up my D-Link 7 port powered hub that has 2 250Mb drives and 1 500Mb dive (for Time Machine) to the new machine and it just hangs on the white screen.
I have to press the power button on the back to shut down and when I restart it just hangs, so I removed the one cable (for my D-Link) from the back of the iMac and it would boot as normal. When it boots I can then plug my D-Link back in and all is OK.
I don't think this has anything to do with the disk format as this setup worked perfectly from my 24" imac, never once froze.
Not sure how to get round this as it's going to be a real pain to have to remove the usb cable every time I want to boot up. -
Front USB doesn't work with some devices
Hi,
I have 2 front USB ports and have wired everything correctly (not using the 10th pin). I tried my digital camera and the maxtor USB hard drive and they both work. When I try plugging the Adaptec VideOh! USB capturing device, it doesn't seem to work right. It is detected and the drivers for it installed correctly, but I can't capture any video. When I unplugged it and plugged it to any of the 4 ports on the back, it works fine. The D-bracket ports also worked ok with the device. I wired the 2 front usb ports the same way as the d-bracket (they both have the same color wirings). The front ports seemed to work ok with the other devices I mentioned, just not the Adaptec Videoh! USB device. There is a JUSB1 and a JUSB2 on the motherboard. Are both the same? I have JUSB1 for the D-bracket and JUSB2 for the front usb ports. Both are wired the same. I just wonder why the Adaptec device can work with the D-bracket and not the front USB ports even when they are connected the same way. Any suggestions? At the cable end that plugs into the motherboard snip the jumpers between pins 7-9 and 8-10. See Wonkanoby's signature for a link to diagrams.

Strange behavior with USB devices
I got arch installed at home and at work. Recently on both machines I got a black screen with dmesg output after connecting the usb device (android tablet and iriver player). I could get back my screen with CTRL+ALT+F7, but then my usb ports stopped working and dmesg shows nothing, after I connected the devices for the second time. I was able to get them running only after the reboot( It doesn't happen every time I connect a device, but it happened twice already, so I though I should write a feedback.

Last edited by tasty_minerals (2011-12-05 07:23:42)If you look at this, then it appears that it may be a kernel problem:
http://www.spinics.net/lists/linux-scsi/msg55636.html
But if you drill down into that thread, a developer says the real problem is "The implication from the trace seems to be that something allowed blkid to open a non existent device."
Then when I look at your log, it shows that the failing job is:
Dec 5 10:02:01 pshkadko kernel: [585770.321427] Pid: 16515, comm: hald-addon-stor Not tainted 3.1.1-1-ARCH #1
I wonder if the problem is somehow tied to using the depreciated hal daemon... but this is a total guess. -
Satellite A100 doesn't recognise Epson printer sx125
Hi
Hoping someone can shed some light.
Got a new printer Epson sx125 but having bother installing.. My laptop (Satellite A100) will not recognise it when I insert USB.
I have updated drivers etc but nothing.. I tried the printer on computer upstairs and it recognised no problems.
Any ideas?
Thanks
JulieWhat to say; maybe you should test it with new, fresh preinstalled OS.
Its hard to say why the printer cannot be recognized; I would say, the driver has not been installed correctly but if you tried this several times, then this must be an OS issue since other USB devices works fine.
Additionally you can try to update the BIOS if you have an older version.
Set BIOS to default as well.
But I would also test the notebook + printer using new fresh installed OS.
Good luck -
K7N2 deltas mainboards have a problem with usb devices ??
Ok here is my problem..
I had installed WinXP Pro with SP1..
I got a 20 GB USB2.0 disk.i connected it on the both front or rear usb ports.
When i tried to transfer files to my usb disk or to my PC, in the middle of the copying, i got "Write Delay Failed" error and lost my usb connection..
I had to plug it out and in again..
Now, i have an DSL modem..Last night, i was disconnected from internet and my modem's lights gone..I plug it again, no lights..restarted my PC, also completely shutdown Windows XP..Again no lights..
Then, formatted PC and installed windows 2000 Pr and SP4, until now, my modem worked fine..But USB 2.0 ports are still no use for my usb disk...
In bios , it's enabled as USB 1.1+2.0..
I think this K7N2 deltas have a problem with usb 2.0 devices and Win XP Pro..
Some guys talking about, removing 9th wire earth, but couldn't understand which wire from where ? From mainboard or from usd device's cable ?
Those cables are fabricated, i think it's impossible ?
My processor is Athlon 2500+, ram Twinmos 512 DDR 400
Thanks for replyI'm also having this problem. It's happening with my USB flash disk. I was almost buying another one when I tried it with Windows Vista on the same machine and it worked ok, then I tried Arch Linux (with kernel 2.6.30.5) on another machine and got the same error. After that I tried Ubuntu and it worked ok. Seems that Arch's kernel doesn't like my USB flash disk.

Last edited by nigg (2009-08-11 14:14:57)I'm also having this problem.

Satellite Pro A300 can not find USB devices
Hello forum,
we have a costumer who has bought a Toshiba Satelite Pro A300 from us, but he gets a strange error on it.
he connects a Sandberg USB 2.0 5port Hub to one of the usb ports, the pc finds the hub, but when he connects a memory stick to the hub nothing happens.
the hub and memory stick works on others pc's.
hope somebody can help.
best regards

DANBIT A/SHi
What happens if you connect the memory stick directly without this USB hub?
I had also an USB hub but these hubs are a little bit complicated and tricky The USB specifications allows a certain power and depending on the devices that you connect you have to use an active USB hub, that means with external power supply.
But normally Satellite Pro A300 should have enough USB ports If its necessary I would recommend an USB hub with 2 or 3 ports maximum -
Need information on how to comunicate with USB devices
I have an aquisition unit that connects to the computer trhough a USB port. Does anyone knows how to comunicate usb devices with labview using a Universal Serial Bus (USB)?
Sorry for digging up old threads, but it seemed most relevent, and I always figure it's best to add onto old then start new. For ease of the next persons search.
So anywho, My first question is... I assume it is not necessary to open and close VISA sessions to USB ports, right?
I am having an issue where my device doesn't like to work unless a specific series of events take place... very unlike USB Devices in my experience. For instance, if you have the said device plugged in, and you turn it on, then open labview. It will spit out garbage. If you close labview, do nothing else, and open labview up... it will spit out the same garbage. ( by garbage i mean a series of y's with dots over it, and odd looking p's ... you know the kind of letters you get by pressing alt+###... i think in hex it winds up spitting out something like FF EF FF FF FF EF EF ) .... now, if from this current state, I unplug the USB and plug it back into the device, it will finally start to communicate properly.
Im curious why either labview or the computer itself are not recognizing the device on the USB port properly unless it is unplugged and then plugged back in. Ive tried to do reading on USB, and got all sorts of interesting tid bits of somewhat useless information. Im trying to determine if this is something I am not doing in labview, or if this device should have a driver to register with windows, or what exactly the issue is... Just a little background, I do explicitly know all the individual commands to this device so it is not an issue to communicate with it directly through visa...
Thought some of you might have insight or some similar USB experiences....

Help with USB device configuration
Hi, LabVIEW 2009, Windows 7, x86
1. I have just connected a USB Hanna HI3221 pH meter to the computer above.
2. The device shows up in the Windows Control Panel as working properly and identified as an HI3221.
3. I rebooted the computer, logged in again etc.
4. I start the "NI Device Monitor".
5. I plug in the USB Device and unfortunately as described on page 3 here
http://digital.ni.com/manuals.nsf/websearch/231F4BE79F2F7CB58625758300711E6E
I do not get prompted to begin a measurement with the device, to begin an application with the device, etc.
I don't see the device in MAX either.
Although I can browse other connected USB devices as VISA resources in LabVIEW, eg. a USB Agilent U2355a as "USB0::2391::4888::TW48052027::0::INSTR", I cannot see this USB device.
Can anyone throw any light as to how I can configure up this device?
Thanks in advance
MikeHi mike
Max is developed for NI hard ware and hence the
drivers are primarily designed for NI products. As the hard ware is third party
it is possible to create a driver using the VISA Driver Development Wizard .
Once created search for the device in MAX .
See the link posted below for a tutorial on USB
control.

MBP will not boot up with USB devices connected
I have a late 2010 MBP 15 10.7.2 that will no longer boot up if any USB devices are attached. A dongle, a hub, anything. It goes to the gray screen and stays there. Disconnecting all USB devices the MBP will boot up. Then connecting the USB devices they work. It just will not boot up with anything connected to the USB ports. I have reset PRAM, SMC and fixed disk permissions. Made sure login items are ok, and start up disk is correct. I cant really say when the problem started as it worked fine before, maybe on 10.7.1? Not sure.
Any suggestions for a fix?I re-installed the 10.7.2 combo. It booted up with a non powered usb 4 port hub but it disabled it. Plugging it out then in again and it works. Looks like the USB firmware has changed somehow in 10.7.2, The hub works on PC's at work no problem, and it worked on the MBP without issue previously. Its not just the non powered hub its a powered hub, and other devices.
Any solutions? -
Notebook won't boot with usb device plugged
Hi,
Voila, I have a Satellite Pro Sp6100, when i try to boot it whith an usb printer plugged in, the notebook won't start at all. i have latest bios version 1.90.
Thx,
Barzot @+Hello
It will be interesting to know if the printer is ON or OFF when you start the unit. I have tested my Tecra M1 with USB stick and the boot up procedure needs about 5 min. If I put the USB stick out the unit starts as usual. -
Problems with USB device when using WindowsNT
Hi,
my problem is that I want to use a simulator which can only be connected with USB to the computer.
I used the VISA Driver Development Wizard as discribed in this link (http://zone.ni.com/devzone/conceptd.nsf/webmain/6792BAB18242082786256DD7006B6416) and it didn't work.
I'm using Windows NT and VISA 3.1 and I read that it isn't possible to create a USB connection with VISA when using Windows NT. So my questions
1) is this right
2) Has someone a idea what I can do? I tried to use VISA USB Control and this also didn't work.
I hope I discribed my problem detailed enough. It's my first post.
Thanks for your responses
JoergAs you can see in this table, USB is not supported by VISA under NT:
http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/websearch/EE34F21ECC2BE01286256C52005D1A1F?OpenDocument
I would recommend to use Win2000 or XP. Using one of these OSes you could use this turorial to create your VISA-driver:
http://zone.ni.com/devzone/devzoneweb.nsf/Opendoc?openagent&1D0DD81FF1448CAE86256D90006EE2B4
If it is not posssible to change the OS, you have to look for other ways of programming your usb-device. Check the web or the Microsoft site for help concerning Windows SDK and USB.
Hope this helps a little! -
[Athlon64] win XP doesn't load if USB devices are connected
K8T Neo2 Series-K8T800 Pro. I connected HP 7450, HP Scanjet 4600, ADSL modem at the usb ports and win XP Home wouldn't start! I could only connect usb devices after win is loaded! Is there a BIOS that corrects the Inconvenience?

If you are having problems with USB ports, read this topic.
That's very helpful, and something I'll remember in future, but that was related to front USB connectors.
My slow boot happens when the devices I mentioned are even plugged into the rear ports. In fact, I even noticed this on my old 440BX based Gateway, so I always thought it was an XP issue.
Legacy USB support was disabled on both PCs to boot. (heh)
