Satellite A100- New or Old Battery is not charging

Hi,
I have a Satellite A100-543 (PSAARE).
The original battery was not charging so I purchased a new one. Now the new one is not charging either. I then ordered a new charger before coming to this forum so Ill test that when it arrives but I think the problem will not be solved.
With the new Battery the Icon says "10% Usable, connected, charging". The Icon, when the laptop is first switched on, shows the charge bar moving (charging) but after a few moments stops.
With the old Battery the Icon says " connected, charging". It shows empty.
In both cases the Battery Green LED is on.
If I pull out the charger from the laptop the computer stops immediately.
Trawling the forums I see one proposed solution is a BIOS upgrade. I have BIOS version 5.80
See: http://www.laptoprepair101.com/laptop/2006/05/23/toshiba-satellite-a105-battery-charging-problem/comment-page-19/#comment-151154
However I cannot find my model (as above) on Toshiba's list! It was purchased in France and is out of warranty.
Again I am dubious than this will solve the problem.
Others point to the motherboard. How can I know this? If it is does anybody have an idea of cost?
I do hope that someone can help.
Henry

I'm not going to immediately help but I think I have the same problem on my A200 Equium model 1V0, running Vista.
Existing battery has gone down to 5% power and of course I get warnings so I run on mains but I can run the laptop on the battery for a few minutes.
The charging light comes on for about 9 seconds and then goes out. The charging status changes from "on mains power, charging 5%" to "on mains power, not charging".
It's odd that I can flip the battery out while the mains is attached and when I re-insert it, there's a charging light and charging status is ok for 9 seconds. If I do this often enough I can boost the battery to 10% but then the charging light only flickers on for a moment and there's no further actual charging. I think the main board charging circuit can't handle any more than a small feedback charge.
I bought a new battery - the laptop won't run on this without mains power (in fact the charging light now only appears for a moment and no charging at all takes place).
I uninstalled and re-installed the power ACPI from device manager - no change.
I turned off laptop, removed battery and mains power and held down the power button for 15 seconds - no change.
I checked my mains adapter using a circuit tester - OK.
Oh, and I updated the BIOS to the latest version 2.5 - no change.
It looks like the main board charging circuit has a fault which is uneconomical to repair.
Unless someone out there knows differently??

  • NEW EOS 6D -- battery does not charge

    Hi,
I just got an EOS 6D camera yesterday and the battery is not charging...
    Should I return the kit?
    What could be the problem?
    Thanks,
    Tamara

If the battery has been sitting on the shelf for a while, this can happen.  Unplug it, wait a minute, plug it back in.
I have had batteries that I had to do this to once or twice, but once they started charging they were fine and never had another problem again.
Also, batteries don't last forever... I think of them like tires on my car.  They don't wear much when I drive the car, but they do *technically* wear and at some point will need to be replaced.  Heavily used batteries may only get a couple of years worth of use.  Sparingly used batteries may get a few more years worth of use.  Even batteries that are never used at all will eventually go bad... the technology isn't stable enough for a battery to last forever and just sitting on the shelf degrades them.

  • My new macbook's battery is not charging.

I bought my macbook last April 9, 2011 and after one day I experienced my macbook not charging when I plug it in. I only plug it in when it says that I am running on reserve battery power. I went to a Power Mac Center and they said that I should only be concerned if it happens again. After one week, my macbook was fine until last week it started behaving like this again. My one week warranty is out and I've been trying to reset the SMC over and over again but it continues to happen. Does my unit need replacing or something? Or is there a permanent fix for this?

Forgive me but I have to ask, your MacBook has an integrated battery correct? Is this exactly how you reset the SMC?
Newer Mac portables with a battery you don't remove
    Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Note: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.
Try resetting the pram also, don't know if it'll help but it won't hurt.
    Resetting NVRAM / PRAM
    Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.

  • New battery will not charge

Had Genius Bar install a new battery as the old one was not charging. New Apple installed battery will not charge either. Light on T-connector always shows green even after SMC reset and battery will not charge. Any ideas?

Bring it back to Apple, they may have not seated the cable/connector correctly, or the cableconnector has an issue, or there is a problem with the charging circuit. Bring in your power adaoter with you as well. Apple repairs come with 30 day warranty

    Hi
Please dont use any batteries which are not 100% compatible with your notebook!
This can damage motherboard and other 3rd notebook parts.
As far as I know the A100 is a one of the newest Toshiba series and the warranty should be valid.
For me it sounds a little bit like a motherboards power supply electronic fault.
Who knows ?:| The notebook check is necessary to locate the malfunction.
So dont waste the time and contact immediately the Toshiba authorized service provider in your country.
They technicians should check the notebook and should provide a help.
    Good luck

  • Satellite C855-1GQ: Battery does not charge - adapter is connected

    Hello,
This is my first post here, I am hoping somebody can help me!
    I have a Toshiba Satellite C855 1GQ laptop.
So, basically I managed to break the end of the original charger (the part which plugs into the laptop) and stupidly tried a similar fitting charger from another device which had a lower output than the Toshiba one,
however when I plugged it in it killed the laptop battery as well as the adapter (it was an old one anyway). I have a new battery and a new charger adapter but the battery will not charge.
When I first put the battery in it worked fine so the laptop itself is not broken, the laptop tells me that it is plugged in and charging but it just loses power until the battery goes flat.
The new charger adapter does not seem to work despite the fact that it tells me it is with a working battery. The specifications for the new adapter are the same as the original (I got a cheapish one from ebay).
Is there a fuse inside the laptop which may have blown when I stupidly used the adapter I shouldn't have? I have read a lot of possible solutions on this but none seem to be specific for my problem. Maybe the new adapter is not good enough?
Like I said, the new battery worked fine until it ran out of power so it must be the charger or something on the laptop stopping it from charging.
Any help would be much appreciated!
    Cheers,
    Chris D.

    > Is there a fuse inside the laptop which may have blown when I stupidly used the adapter I shouldn't have?
The usage of wrong and not compatible AC adapter will damage the notebooks hardware (motherboard could be affected)
Very important is the fact that the original AC adapter supports the 19V (volt) output voltage and
    3.42A (ampere) output current.
Usage of Ac adaptor with different output voltage (not 19V) would affect the hardware.
The usage of AC adaptor with 19V output voltage but different ampere value should not affect the hardware.
Furthermore low ampere value (< 3A) might not be good enough for battery charging
But in case the AC adaptor is compatible, i would test definitely another, new, fully compatible battery.

  • Battery is not charging - New Battery

I have just bought a replacement battery as my old one reached the end of its life. After inserting the new battery and plugging in the charger, the message "Battery is not charging" appears when i click on the battery symbol. How do I set up my new battery? Or is my charger the problem?

I'm not too sure. I knew the laptop battery needed replacing so I waited for it to die completely. But the charger light wasn't lighting up like it usually did just before the battery died. I assumed it was because of the battery running out of juice. Should I try another charger and see what happens?

my new I-pod nano does not charge it's battery on JBL stage II, while my old nano did. Is there anyreason for this uncomfort?

The design of the Dock connector has changed slightly. The new iPods require a resistor between two of the pins, this allows the iPod to detect what type of accessory is detected. You can use e.g. this converter to connect the iPod to your JBL dock: http://www.cablejive.com/products/dockStubz.html

  • New battery will not charge - have we missed something obvious?

My DD has just replaced the battery on her PB. When the power supply (less than 3 months old) is attached, the led shows amber but the battery will not charge. I've tried reseating the battery with no effect. Since I purchased it from an apple dealer, I'll be taking it back tomorrow, but I wondered whether there is something obvious we've missed.
    Thanks
    Jennifer

Thank you both. Yes I know the battery needs to be calibrated, but as you say, to calibrate, you need to charge, which is a non-starter. I'm going to take the whole thing in (again). I suspect the problem that led to the battery needing to be replaced possibly dealt a death blow to something inside. I don't know whether this is relevant, but before replacing the battery, the charger started to make a loud buzzing noise (I understand - I wasn't here), and with the old battery in place the PB kept freezing and/or rebooting. Only with the battery out and just the power supply in would the PB work. The PB is seeing the new battery, it just wont charge it. I just wanted to make sure there wasn't anything else I could do before taking it in.

  • Battery is not charging on my Satellite 3000-x4

    Hi
I have a Satellite 3000-x4 that dosn't seem to charge the battery. Have already tried new ones but they do not charge, Indicater light flashes but will not charge.
    Any suggestions.

    hi keith267,
i have a sat3000 too! which cpu you have in it?
2 reasons for this issue are possible:
a cheap one and an expensive one... lets see what we can do!
    - make sure that your ac-adaptor is good
    therefor run machine without battery!
led flashing or is it constantly on? when flashing you got a problem....
    on? good!
wont start or shuts down: ac-adaptor is gone... cheap one done (app.40?)
    - run your machine with batt only
    ok? good!
wont run or shuts down immediatly: battery training is recommended
therefor start a dos system without ac power and let it run "dry"
after that try reloading with ac power, do this 5 times to train your battery
    ok afterwards? good!
no? thats the bitter pill to take
    - insert battery and connect ac power
when your machine boots up und runs, half the job is done
led still blinking? yes? you need a new powermodule for your machine...
thats the bad thing: it's on the mainboard and cant be changed wothout changing the mainboard...
if you have no luck with this procedures you may have mine instead ;-)

  • New Battery A1175 not charging?

Purchased last week brand new Rechargeable Battery is not charging. Battery from "GenesisBatteries", A1175 10,8V-60Wh. Power adaptor glows green. Shut down when power disconnected with battery in place. Battery indicator on battery showing almost full. MacBook Pro early 2008, 2.2 GHz, Old battery model: A1175, 10,8V-60Wh, 500 cycles, 60% life, almost 4 years and still working. Whats wrong with new battery and what to do? SMC and PRAM resets done.

    Reset the SMC:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
If that doesn't help, you may have bought a bad battery. Many of the cut-rate batteries sold online for half or less than half what Apple batteries cost have proved to be worthless. I don't know whether yours fits that description, but if it does, it's no surprise to me that it doesn't charge.

If you have all your music on the cmputer then i would connect up my phone uncheck the Sync Music option and apply.
This should take all the music off your phone .Then you can resync the music back on to it.
If this doesn't work maybe a restore to factory settings and start from scratch is the way to go

My brand new MacBook Pro retina display not charging the battery any more after 3 weeks...no green or red Led. Any one now about this problem? Thanks

Either the power brick is damaged, or the charging circuit is on the blink, or both. Either way, a trip to the Apple Store or the Apple Authorized Service Provider is in order, as this ain't no bargain basement toy.
In the meantime, can attempt an SMC Reset to see if it helps.
