Satellite A100: What is a small grey rectangle icon with a small red circle in task bar

Hi,
I have recently bought a new Toshiba A100 laptop and have noticed an icon in the System Tray that doesn't have any description nor can I get rid of it.
I've tried changing the setting for this icon to hide but it seems to reappear minutes later.
It looks like a small grey rectangle with a small red circle in the bottom right hand corner with a cross running diagonally going it through it from top left to bottom right .
Anyone got any ideas?

Blinking grey folder icon with question mark on boot

Hi. Just got my system from the Apple Service center where they have reinstalled a new hard disk for me.
When I come home, and start the machine, it shows me a blinking grey folder icon with a question mark in it.
Only thing I can do in this screen is switch off the power. But when I reboot, it shows me the same icon again.
With google, I discovered that if while rebooting I press the OPTION key, then it boots me into the firmware password mode. How can I automate this? I do not want to have to always boot the laptop with Option key pressed.

That question mark means that your machine can't find a drive with a system installed to boot from. Sounds as if the techs didn't install a system when they replaced the drive... do you still have the installation disc(s) that your MBP might have come with?

What is the blue lego looking icon with a "?"

What is the blue, lego looking icon that has a "?" on it? It seems like every other website that I navigate to has it and I can't view anything. It's really getting frustrating. I tried looking for information online but couldn't find anything. Thanks for any help that can be provided.

It means the web site is trying to display something using Flash (most likely) or some other graphic material that the iPhone can't display.

Installing apps but grey apps icon with 'waiting...' underneath it appear..

I have installed numerous apps onto my iPhone4. However, the last two free apps I attempted to install just show a grey app icon on my main screen with "Waiting..." below them. One has been sitting there since last night, the other since about an hour ago. I am unable to reverse the install process - I can't delete these grey icons. Anyone else have this problem? Thanks.

I just had the same problem with my new iPhone 4 and all I did was go into the apps store and re download the apps you were attempting install. Then attach your "powered off" phone to the computer and turn it on. Let iTunes sync with your phone and that should fix it.
Also, any apps that you paid for already will let you re download for free.

How do get rid of an addon when it's not listed in the Addons? It's a video capture app and (small red circle on the bar) . Help!

I can't remember the name of the addon, it looks like a small red dot on my toolbar. I know that you need to install CSHelper extension in order for the video capture to work.
I don't want to software but as I stated before the addon isn't listed in the Addon section and if it is I don't see it.
I really don't want to have to uninstall it Firefox and reinstall it but I will as a last resort. :(

Could be "Download Helper" (Video Download Helper). It has a screen capture option and that option requires CSHelper.

Grey CC Icon with Spinning wheel won't open

The CC icon on my taskbar won't open and if I hover my mouse over it there is just the rainbow wheel of death. I can't use the updater or uninstaller because it says that CC is still running and asks me to close it (which I can't do either). What do I do?

What Vista version should I take for Satellite A100 PSAA8?

I want to install windows vista instead of the XP i have by default in my laptop Satellite A100 PSAA8.
* which version should i go with; *64-bit or 32-bit* ?
* and what about x86 and x64!?
* will I find all drivers in the download section for the new OS?
* will there be any non-working component or function after installing ?
The new OS will make me do extra efforts every time re-install, I wish I can have any thing similar to the recovery CD of my laptob (+with the one click install with drivers also+) but has windows vista, :-(
Is there any solution to make it easier any time i re-install?

According Toshiba download page your notebook is supported for Vista 32-bit. There you can find all drivers, tools and utilities designed for Vista.
There is also installations Instructions document. Use it for right installations order.
So what you must do is to obtain Microsoft Vista installations DVD.

Unrecognized drivers and non-English utilities for Satellite A100-785

I have got Satellite A100-785 PASAANE Since I am using win2003 with SP2 and all its updates, I have downloaded all drivers for windows XP; because its drivers are compatible with 2003.
But I have experienced this problem (please see pic below ):

I can not find out what are still missing (yellow question mark) ??
My second query I tried to download "Wireless Lan Client Manager" from different locations (countries) but still I am getting it in Arabic language, how can I download the same "Wireless Lan Client Manager" in English version ? by the way during installation I have not got an option to choose a language !!!!!!

Thanks Dennis, this link that you have posted, I had tried that before I posted my thread in the forum,,,,,,,the link was not helpful. What I did to get English version I used intel web site to download english version.
It seems to me when Toshiba manufactures specific version (model) of Laptops for middle east region, some drivers are in arabic, you can not get English version from Toshiba site, because that model of laptop only for middle east region.
Same thing happened with my printer 1201 from another manufacturer(I forgot exact model number), the driver on the CD is in arabic, there is no english version on the CD, as far as I remembered I tried manufacturers website for English version I could not find it.
One more thing I want to add , now I am in Australia-Sydney, I could not find same my laptop's model here in the market;that means the laptop that I bought it from middle east , was manfuctured for middle east region only, therfore some drivers are in arabic language.
This is my 2 cent conculsion.

After capture, small grey lines in viewer scrubber bar

I have just captured about an hour of video to FCP 5 and when I open the clip in the viewer, there are 12 small grey lines in the lower half of the viewer scrubber bar, they seem to be equal distance apart. Anyone know what these are? At first I thought it was indicating dropped frames, but during capture FC did not report any dropped frames. Thanks.

For example, right where one of those markers is, the time code goes from 14:59;29 to 15:00;02 and skips 14 59 00 , 01 and 02.
Oh, my, you're new to this video thing, eh? Not a problem, we all were at one time or another, everyone starts somewhere. This is how the two types of timecode work, drop frame and nondrop frame. There's plenty to read on timecode in the FCP manuals. Confusing, we know, try not to let it bug you. Nothing is being lost and a 3 hour clip is the same length in either mode.
On another topic there's an audio delay in the second half this hour long clip, but I'm not going to get into that right here. Thanks.
No, thank YOU. Audio delay can be caused by lots of weird things and many of them are user-caused or don't really exist at all.
Try to get some thick skin, we spend tremendous effort kidding with our forum members. Not everyone can take the pressure.

Satellite A100 - BT mobile broadband

Below is an email from BT I cannot get their mobile broadband working with my Satellite A100

following our conversation with regards to your problem using BT Mobile Broadband on Windows 7 we have concluded that the fault is being caused by windows 7 its-self, there seems to be a problem with Dial up networking on the computer, our software indicates that there is a problem with the "Remote Access Connection Manager service" and attempting to start this Service manually results in an error regarding it's dependencies.
My only suggestions to resolve the problem are to contact your PC vendor for diagnostics or to perfom a factory restore on the computer, your PC vendor will be able to help with this, we will contact you in a couple of days to see how you have progressed with the issue and if the advice I have given has assisted in resolving the issue.

LOL :) such mails are very usual for service people who dont know what the problem could be its very simple to point someone to the computer manufacturer and to say its computer issue.
May I ask you what problem do you have?
I assume you are using an 3rd party Bluetooth modem and are not able to install it usign Win 7???

As mentioned in you message, the issue might be between BT modem and Win 7.
In my opinion the BT modem manufacturer should provide you an help!
Maybe there are some configuration issues between BT modem and Win 7???
Who knows.
Are you able to connect other BT devices to the A100? Yes? Well in such case the BT stack is installed properly.
Otherwise I recommend reinstalling the BT stack and to configure it again.

Repair using Recovery Disc for Satellite A100

Hi Dr Lamp,
It started about a week ago,when I think I had problems with the Malware /Virus "Fake Alert" where a meesage kept coming up saying I needed to repair or words to the effect. I then lost my desktop and my folders were empty in the start menu, and the screen was black.
I ran McaFee antivirus, Malwarebytes and Super AntiSpyware. I then ran Unhide and rKill. I got the desktop back with a couple of Word documents that would not open but the folders in the start menu where either ok files missing or empty.
I now keep getting redirected when searching but not always, also when I switch the laptop on Photshop opens up as though it is trying to open a file up,there is a message appears Photshop cannot open this kind of document.
The only program I have set to open on start up is McAfee.
I have tried a few system restores with the same result.
After system restore the laptop seems to start up ok, but the next time it is started Photoshop opens again.
I seem to be going round in circles, I really don't want to use the Restore option if at al possible.

Grey X icon on PDF files

I recently installed Reader X on my Windows 7 pc and now when I go to a network share, some of the PDF files are appearing with Grey X's on them. If I try to open the file, it says access denied.
It doesn't seem to present on PDF files newer than 2010, but older PDF files 2009 and under do seem to be affected.
If you right-click on the Grey X PDF file and send the file to IE, it opens fine, or if you move the file to a local drive, the X icon changes and it can be opened in Reader X.
What is causing the Grey X icon and how can it be resolved?

Your question does not provide any details about where the PDF is being displayed (in what software, on what platform).
PDF files displayed within operating system browsers (Windows Explorer, Mac Finder) take their icon from the application associated to open the file, NOT from anything embedded within the PDF itself - so they cannot be changed. "Thumbnail" previews typically render the first page of a document.

Satellite A100-683: Small Lines running through screen

Hello,
I bought my Toshiba A100-683 for a month ago.
The problem is that I sometimes see small grayish lines running through the LCD screen from the top the bottom.
This is are the type of lines u also see when u use your (phone) camera to make a movie of a monitor / lcd screen.
I don see them always and seem to appear randomly.
I've updated my video card drivers but this didn't solve the problem.
Is anyone familiar with this problem ?? Or knows an solution for it before i will send it for repair.

I would recommend connecting it to the external monitor. If the small lines dont appear on the external connected monitor so I suppose the graphic card is ok and possibly only the FL inverter could has a malfunction.
Anyway, its no matter whats wrong because the warranty should be valid in your case and all replacements should be done for free.
