Satellite A105 freezes after windows xp is loaded

I have a Satellite A105- S4074.
The operating system will load then freezes.
I have tried safe mode and ran error check and defrag. I tried sys config and when system is loaded, then freezes.
I was able last week to load system and have internet connection. But it froze again the next day.
I cannot get consistent performance. I have windows xp media center. I recently upgraded ram to 4 GB.
What are my options? I lost the original restore disks.
I am willing to reformat the hard drive if necessary.

When you install extra RAM, its important to test the stability of the new RAM to avoid BSOD's and data corruption / loss.
New RAM can be incompatible or unstable in some systems, or can simply be faulty out of the box.
Test the RAM for errors. You can use the free Memtest utility:
1) Go to http://www.memtest.org/#downiso and download the "Pre-Compiled Bootable ISO (.zip)"
2) Open the ZIP file and extract the ISO file to a temporary folder.
3) Burn the ISO to a blank CD using an "Image-to-Disc" or "Bootable CD" project in your CD/DVD burning software (dont use a normal Data Project).
4) Insert the Memtest CD into your laptop and turn it on, press F12 to launch the boot menu, and select "CD".

Satellite U500 - Freezes after Windows 7 upgrade

I am trying to upgrade from Vista home premium 64bit to Windows 7 home premium 64bit on a U500-119.
After the activation process was completed, I started Windows 7, but the Desktop screen did'nt appear and my U500 froze the "welcome" message. I could reboot Windows 7 in repair mode, but I cannot find which sw component prevents Windows 7 to start and work in normal mode. Did I used the wrong installation option, automated process instead of the personnalised one?
What should I do, restore Vista from HDD recovery, and re-install Windows 7, this time using the perconnalised mode?

To be honest I also dont know which software are driver is causing this freezes but can you start the notebook in safe mode?
Furthermore its not possible to use the HDD recovery anymore because you installed another OS. In this case you need the Toshiba recovery disk to restore Windows Vista.

Satellite P300 freezing after more than 20 minutes

Hope someone can help.
My P300 satellite laptop freezes when left on for more than 20 minutes.
This has been a problem since buying the laptop 8 months ago.
I have windows vista installed.
When this happens I have to hold down the on button untill the computer restarts, it gives me the option of starting in safe mode.
This can't be good for the laptop?
Is there a way to fix this, as I have to turn the laptop off when ever I leave it.

Its not easy to say what the reason is for this because it can be caused from different things
Maybe your notebook is overheating. Can you hear the fan or does it get very hot? Maybe you should try to clean it using compressed air spray. This could blow out the dust from the cooling ventilators.
You said you have installed Windows Vista on your notebook. Do you mean the factory settings or have you installed your own Windows version?
It could be also a problem of the RAM. You can check this with Memtest86. This is a diagnostic program for the RAM. You can download it on [www.memtest86.com]. Its freeware and easy to use (just burn a bootable CD with the image and boot from it).
Good luck and post your results after this.

I have a Toshiba Satellite L300 bought with Windows Vista 32bit approximately 4 months later I got out my Windows 7 64bit made it.
1st My laptop has problems start after I installed drivers give it extra drivers to go but I've downloaded drivers for Windows 7 64bit
2nd Whom do I hear music and wants to hear next song is it whom I use but ne net If the keyboards fn +?? do not go and play / pause next prevous Stop and media player tase funtionieren not only the silent weis tase of modest

To be honest your posting is very hard to understand and I dont know what you mean exactly.
According your posting it seems that you need some driver and you can get all drivers here:

Regarding the FN keys you need Toshiba Value Added Package and Flash Cards Support Utility. Everything can be downloaded from official Toshiba page.

Does A105-S4284 support windows vista? or the drivers are not ready yet? it's vista capable PC i know, but many times i tried installing vista RC1 and it hangs up in the middle of teh installation :( plz help me.

If its a vista capable notebook then I dont see any reasons why the notebook should not support Windows Vista.
Its a fact that at this time no Vista drivers are available on the Toshiba page. (I dont found any)
I assume we will be able to download the drivers in the next couple of weeks.
PS: I have installed the RC2 version on my unit and it works without any additional drivers. Only the WLan card does not work but I can live with them

Satellite L850D - freezing in Windows 8.1

I'm having trouble with my Satellite L850D.
The system will freeze for 30seconds to 5 minutes before it recovers or restarts ( restarts around 10% of the time).
This system originally shipped with windows 8. Restoring system solved the problem but when windows 8.1 upgrade was reinstalled the problem returned. I have attempted to update all drivers but have been unable to find a solution.
The problem does not occur during game play or during active movie playback but will occur if a movie is paused. Most frequently it occurs when using writing software or web browsers ( Tried Firefox, IE and Chrome with similar results).
Any help would be appreciated.
Restoring did not improve the problem once 8.1 was reinstalled so I'm not sure what to try next.

Satellite L755 freezes on Windows home page

My Satellite L755 sometimes freezes at start up. It gets to windows home page then nothing works. I click start and nothing happens. No icons work. I have to hold down the off button to turn off and then re-start. I then have no problem. This is happening more often.
I have updated BIOS as per Toshiba advise.

Which OS do you use?
Do you use original OS that you got with your notebook?
On this virtual way it is not easy to say what is wrong there. Your OS configuration is not known to us and we dont know which applications start with OS at start-up.
If the problem happen again and again maybe you should install OS again using original Toshiba recovery image and start to use notebook with "factory settings" again.

Firefox 6 freezes after windows updates

Satellite P200 freezes after 5-10 min and need multiple reboot to work fine

My p200-1de has a strange problem :
Every day when i start a new session, it work fine (booting until the desktop) and i start to work.
After 5-10 min, windows vista (ultimate) freeze and i need to stop/reboot many time to finally success and boot until the desktop.
Sometime i need to boot in safe mode without network and wait on desktop for 5 min
It seems like some part or piece of the notebook need to be hot to work fine (something twisted maybe)
I cleaned with dry air the fans windows without improvements. I bought new memories from toshiba in france and the problem is still there. The hard disks are ok (scanned and tested)
The warranty is ended last january so ...
Does someone have any idea?

Have you cleaned the notebook with compressed air spray? This could blow out the dust from the cooling ventilators and therefore you must not disassemble the notebook.
Im not sure but it could be also a software issue. Have you reinstalled the notebook with the Toshiba recovery disk?
This disk contains the factory settings with all drivers and tools. So you can determine if its a hardware or software issue.

after many problems I did format the hard drive reinstal windows and after some update will freeze.....I can't do anything just power of and re-start.....I don't know what it is it will not finish update windows becouse after the last updated will freeze ...I dont know what to do ...plus my windows code to validate windows from the stiker from the back of the laptop will no acepted by microsoft....what can I do

it happened to me when i changed my antivrus software to COMODO.
try to uninstall the antivirus software then try the fn f8 again.

Satellite A500 - Freezes after startup

My A500 is about 18 months old and just recently it has started to freeze within 5 minutes of starting up. It runs in safe mode for as long as I want. I have run PC - Doctor from an external HDD in this mode and found no problems.
Next trick I'd like to try is restore back to factory settings from the hidden partition, that I know how to do. Before I do that I have a couple of questions please.
1.Has anybody had this problem and solved it?
2.Is my computer likely to freeze up during the re-instillation of the system and get stuck in some sort of instillation loop or turn into a brick.
Any comments would be much appreciated.

Hello again and thanks for your help.
I did a clean install from WIn7 disc... no problems.
Completed all the updates from Microsoft.... no problems.
Could not install all Toshiba A500 software as I could not access the site untill now.
Ran for over 6hrs without freezing.
BUT after I udated the Graphics driver from Nvidia on the first restart the computer froze within 5 seconds.
...Maybe the problem lies with the on board Standard VGA graphics adapter.
Where to go from here?
Take it to the doctor, or can a separate display adapter be fitted and the standard one be bypassed.
Me thinks that a repair to the onboard adapter might be expensive, that's if the fault lies there.
Any opinions.

X-Serve freezes after Windows XP VPN connection

Running OS X Server 10.4.11 and having a problem with a L2TP VPN (Preshared Key) connection from a Windows client. The Windows Client is behind a NAT Router and the XP Registry is patched for NAT Traversal (Informations found in Microsoft KB). This Windows Client can successfully connect to our company OSX Server trough L2TP VPN , Browse the Intranet Webpages, opening Filemaker 6 Databases.
Our configuration:
Win XP Client --->NAT Router--->---L2TP VPN over ADSL--->Router(pub.IP) --->Sonic Firewall Pro 100 --->OSX Server (VPN Service)
Only browsing the User Directory and others on a Server Volume via SMB causes the server to freeze (become unresponsive). Every AFP Connection disconnects. It forces me to do a hard reboot.
Connecting with a OSX 10.4.11 Client from the same Location is fully functioning and connects without issues on the Server.
Is there something I might be overlooking in the Windows XP client configuration, or something I need to change on the server side? Anyone else having this issue?

Does the OS X Server use a private IP number?
I know you can connect from XP if the OS X server isn't behind NAT without any registry hacks.
Otherwise I seriously doubt it works.

Satellite A660-10W - After Windows 7 installation some unknown devices

So I have the Satellite A660-10W, and I reinstalled the Windows 7 it came with Windows 7 ultimate 64bit. First thing is when I use fn+F6/F7 (other combinations work) for brightness levels it doesn`t work, brightness doesn`t change. And the other thing is that there seem to be some unknown devices.
Here is everything hope someone can think of what could it be, thanks in advance. :)

OK you and my friend are right, because I installed the video card drivers from nvidia`s website, not from toshiba, now brightness works :D
And I reinstalled Windows because one thing there were no partitions only one lonely drive and I wanted 30-40gigs for windows and the rest for stuff, not when I decide do reinstall lets say a year later with work and media on it to lose everything. I didn`t do any back ups, even all the shop assistant talked about when I bought it was to buy some dvd`s and backup, but I said I never did that before so why would I need it now, anyway now everything works perfectly, iI`m prepared for the next time :D , thanks for the help. :)

Unfortunately, I discovered today that Modem is installed with drivers on Windows Vista 32-bit but does not work. However, I formatted my PC and installed Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit and: No modems at all! I don't know why device manager is unable to see and capture my device.

Y40-70 freezes after Windows 10 Upgrade when in sleep mode

Hello, I have a y40-70 that is newly upgraded to windows 10 with all of the new drivers from the lenovo downloads page. Over the past couple of days I have noticed that when I close the lid of my laptop to put it into sleep mode, the comuter will boot back up after a time and remain frozen, with a black screen and the two left LED's on the front lit up. The only thing that unfreezes the laptop is to force a restart by holding down the power button. I am wondering if anyone has encountered this problem, or perhaps a solution?

FYI: Long post ahead! So trying to do a clean instal was quite an adventure! I wasn't able to roll back to 8.1 because of reasons, apparently. The recovery options would just say that there had been an error and I couldn't do it. What I ended up having to do was to use One Key Recovery to restore the factory image, which comes with all of Lenovo's software. Thinking that this might be a source of possible conflict, I downloaded the Windows 8.1 media creation tool and used it to create a bootable USB on a 16 GB USB drive. Using that, I wiped the OS partition and did a clean install of Win8.1. Because the product key is embedded in the BIOS, you don't have to enter it in manually (just skip that step if it asks you) and the first time you connect to the internet, it will automatically activate after several minutes. After that, I grabbed the Windows 10 media creation tool. Here's where I ran into a weird issue. When creating the bootable USB stick for Win10 and trying to install from it, everything moved at a glacial pace. I let it run for over 12 hours and it never got past 67% of step 2! Meanwhile Win8.1 installed in about 20 minutes. What I ended up having to do is use the Win10 media creation tool to do an in place upgrade. Each time you run the tool it asks if you want to upgrade the current PC or to create media to install on a different PC. If you choose to upgrade the current PC, it will download Win10 and install it on the laptop. The download and installation together took me around 40 minutes, but your time may vary depending on your download speed. After it downloads the Win10 files, it will give you options as to what you want to keep on your current install. Since I wanted this to be as clean as I could make it, changed the default, "keep files and settings," to "keep nothing." It will wipe Win8.1 and do a clean install of Win10 when doing this. The install went well and I'm in the process of installing the various Lenovo drivers. I'm not quite done yet as I ran out of time yesterday when I was doing all this becuase I had to go to work. So far though, I've had 0 problems after doing this clean installation of Win10. I'm going to finish installing the drivers and my software over the next day or two and keep testing to see if I can reproduce the issues we've been having. I'll keep you guys updated. Hopefully this will help, since it doesn't seem that either MS or Lenovo is doing much to figure out what's going on and provide their own fixes.
