  • Satellite A105-S1013: Need CDW/DVD drive original firmware?

I flashed the wrong firmware model of my CDW/DVD optical drive and now the drive is not being recognized by WinXP. It simply vanished...
I would like to re-flash the correct original firmware for this drive.
The drive is a TSST model TS-L462C TO10.
Can anybody help me locate the original firmware for this drive model?
I know the firmware are very model specific and are not interchangeable.
I searched all Toshiba/Samsung sites to no avail.
Tks in advance for any help...

Thanks, but unfortunately none of these sites offers a TS-L462C TO10 firmware - they offer other models.
I am under the impression this is a rather new firmware code which has not been widely divulged yet. My computer is rather new ( 3 months since I bought it).
Anybody has or knows who has this firmware ??
    Thanks

  • No Sound on Satellite A105-S4201

I recently lost all sound on my Satillite A105-S4201.  In Device Manager, under Sound and Video Devices, there are numerous yellow flags (too numerous to name here).  I attempted to install the device driver (Realtek HD) from the Toshiba Recovery CD without success.
I installed Windows XP SP3 on my computer a month ago but did not experience any sound problems.  I read on one of the posts that it could cause problems with the sound device.
Can anyone offer specific instructions on how I might resolve this issue other than reinstalling the operating system?  Or do I need to reinstall the system?  I would hate to have to reinstall all my programs and files.  Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

  • Satellite A105-S4284: cracking audio and sound

    Hi,
I have a Toshiba Satellite A105-s4284 notebook. When I play audio files (wma, mp3, wav) the sound occasionally produces a cracking (scratching) noise and its VERY VERY annoying, people that share this problem know just how disturbing it is, especially when you pay 1100 euros for a core duo processor with 1GB ram notebook (which you thought would be perfect for use).
Is it a hardware issue or is something wrong with the drivers? This also happens with the preinstalled windows xp media center edition os, as well as with xp professional and windows vista.
I took it for repair but the guys just reinstalled the dvds and returned it to me as it was, I guess it was too difficult for them to hear the noise.
Anyway, I am VERY disappointed and now I just want to fix this problem...
    Please help!

    Hi Emil.d,
There are several message threads that seem to be related to your problem. Please see topics, "Audio glitch: maybe fan related??" and "Satellite A100-906 - sound issue with playing mp3" and "Audible click from speakers when fan starts and stops Equium A100-147" and "Crackling sound on Satellite A100-709".
These all appear to be related problems on machines running bios 2.0 Windows XP, and RealTec sound chip.
One temporary solution was recommended in thread, "Audio glitch: maybe fan related??", but I wouldn't recommend it based on my own experience. I will continue to pursue the problem on the "Audio glitch: maybe fan related??" message thread. Thought you might like to know that there are others having the same problem.
To check if you have the same problem, play a cd or mp3 while placing your hand close to the heat sink exhaust port at the left side of the computer. If you hear the click, (or pop, or garbage) when the cooling fan turns on or off then you have the same problem.
If you have that same problem then come to the "Audio glitch: maybe fan related??" message thread and join us in a hunt for this solution. In my case, I can't return the computer and I can't use my new synthesizer on gigs until this problem is solved - so I have no choice but to pursue this to a solution.

  • Satellite A105-S361 Recovery DVD not booting

    Hello All,
I have a Toshiba Satellite A105-S361 series laptop. A week ago it had a virus and I thought to backup the data on the disk and reinstall that. I plugged out the HDD from laptop and plugged that into a SATA USB Interface to backup the data on my desktop and formatted the disk on my desktop using windows disk management services( I have windows XP on desktop).
Then I plugged the disk back into the laptop and inserted the recovery DVD (which has Windows XP home) and switched on the laptop while pressing 'C' key so as it could install it back to factory default.
A blank screen shows up displaying "Checking boot CD room". It runs for some 20 mins, the DVD ROM's light blinks and I can hear the CD revolving sound like its reading the CD, but after 20 mins it displays the error "No bootable CD found in ATAPI CD-ROM" and a cursor blinks on the screen.
I have tried other bootable cds, a couple containing windows XP and one containing WIndows Vista but same result for all. I have tried to change the boot sequence from BIOS and the F12 technique to display boot menu...
    Any help
    Regards,
    Talha
    Muhammad Talha

Well I have already cleaned the lens of the CD ROM. In fact this is the very first thing I did, it's a DVD-RW in good condition.
Tell me one more thing, is there a possibility that I could make a bootable USB and boot the system with the help of that, i.e. I copy the contents of the DVD Recovery in USB and boot the system with the help of that.
I did make an MS-DOS bootable USB but then found that the BIOS has no option to boot from a USB device. It only boots from one of HDD,FDD, CR-ROM or LAN. Or do I need to update BIOS first, if there is an updated version available for the A105-S361 series, to boot it from a USB device.
    Thanks,
    Talha

  • My Satellite A105 is lagging

I have a Satellite A105-S4074 and it's been working bad lately, I have not install any drivers nor a program. The problem is it has like a "lag" in everything I do. I noticed that when I was listening to music or when I started some program that has sounds because they cannot be played fluently.
Since I have this problem windows starts slower than usually it does. I had this problem once and the solution was to install again windows. I'd like any solution you can give me. Thanks for your attention.

    Hello
To be honest, I also believe that clean OS installation is the best solution. Especially if you do not have enough experience with operating system.
This time you can try to optimize HDD activity and run Disk Defragmenter tool. You can find it under Start All Programs Accessories System Tools Disk Defragmenter.
Please mark volume C and click on button DEFRAGMENT.
After finishing restart your notebook. Please post the results. There are few more things you can du but let us do all this step-by-step.
    Bye

  • Distorted sound on M30-604

    Hi,
I have got a problem with the sound on my Satellite M30-604. If for instant I play a cd or an mp3 (doesnt matter with what program), the sound is distorted. It sounds a bit like back in the old days when my taperecorder got jammed. After a while the sound disappears completely and I get bad sound driver errors. When I restart the notebook, the sound again works fine for a while, but then the problem repeats itself. This temporary regeneration only happens when I restart and does happen when I put the notebook in sleeping mode or standby mode for a while. The sounddriver in my notebook is the SigmaTel C-Major Audio version 6.14.1.3835, it should be the latest version. Can anybody help me with this problem? At the moment I am not even shure whether it is a hardware or a software problem. Thanks,
    Steve

    Hi Steve
I hope that there is some solution that will help you. Did you already try to make BIOS update? It will be interesting to know what you mean exactly under distorted sound. A friend of mine had a similar problem and the cause for that was modem. Sounds stupid but everything is possible.
Like I said if the sound is slowed it can be some hardware mailfunction.

  • Re: Satellite A105 shuts down after 60 seconds (NOT a thermal problem)

Satellite A105-s4344 shuts down after EXACTLY 60 seconds. The mobo has been removed from bezels and all un-needed devices removed (DVD, HDD, WiFI etc.). Swapped CPU and RAM with known good ones. Swapped AC adapter and battery with known good. Does the same on AC or DC only inputs.
I have not yet flashed the BIOS (with 60 seconds this would be foolish). But, I am looking into replacing or reflashing with an EEPROM burner. Currently has V 2.0
I am not sure what genration heat detecting this system uses, but it is a possible cause if it is one of the later generations (visit http://www.topbits.com/how-to-monitor-cpu-temperature.html if you do not know that I am refering to).
Prior to reballing the north and south bridge, and flashing I figured I would get some input from you folks. Just to cover all bases ;)
P.S. the first person to ask what OS I am using will get an instant ticket to the bottom of my respect list.

    >P.S. the first person to ask what OS I am using will get an instant ticket to the bottom of my respect list.
:) :) :) Best thing I saw in this forum.
    Back to your problem.
I am not technician but here just my opinion about all this. The fact is that after switching your notebook ON CPU in just few seconds reaches very high temperature. You can switch your notebook ON and just enter BIOS settings and the same should happen again.
I cannot say for sure if this is 100% thermal issue or not but what else can be responsible for switching off? CPU will be hot in few seconds only. Material change structure with temperature change and I can just imagine some contact will be interrupted.
On this forum we had many similar reports like when cold notebook starts and runs well but after short time switches off for no reason. Maybe I am wrong but for me it sounds like thermal or bad contacts issue. Lets see what other people have to say about it.

  • Satellite A105-S2021 Won't Boot - Won't Run POST

I Googled this topic and searched these forums and cannot find a situation quite like this, or a solution to it.
First, the laptop is a Toshiba Satellite A105-S2021 running Windows 7 Pro 32-bit with 2.5 GB SDRAM.
While my wife was working on her laptop this afternoon, the display went all crazy and would not clear up. The picture was pixelated, and distorted, all diagonal and wierd.
When I rebooted the laptop, the cooling fan came on, the optical drive looked for a disc, the laptop tried to boot, and after about 3 seconds it shut down and went into a loop like this. It would try six times to boot, each time failing, then it would completely shutdown. It won't launch the POST to see if there are any beep codes that might indicate what the problem is. Pressing F2, F8 or F12 is useless since it can't boot to a point where that would be useful.
I'm A+ certified, so I tried all the normal stuff. I tried multiple variations of disconnecting the AC adapter or battery and holding the power button for 20-30 seconds. I removed and reseated the RAM. I took one SoDIMM out while trying to reboot with only 1 in place at a time. I opened the case and visually inspected everything and made sure all the connections were tight. I pulled the HDD and connected it to my laptop as an external and I could read the drive fine that way. On advice from 1 forum post, I checked to see if I could pop out the CMOS battery to reset the CMOS, but the battery seems to be hard-mounted to the MB.
Nothing I try seems to work. Does anyone have any useful advice? Thanks.

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Tim, not quite sure why Ed is talking about the Sat A105-101, as your model is the Sat A105-S2021.
Regardless, here's the downloads, specs, user guide, etc, page for your model:
    Satellite A105-S2021
While I doubt you'll be able to use it, here's the latest flash BIOS for your unit, even if you have already installed this, you should at least try to reinstall it:
ACPI Flash BIOS version 2.30 for Satellite A105
Make the bootable CD on another computer, to try to install this BIOS on yours by booting off the CD drive with the disk you create. You say it's seeking a CD/DVD on power up, so it might boot. It's certainly worth a try.
But, bottom line, if you can't 'F2' into the BIOS Setup, I'm doubting you'll be to boot off the CD, and in all likelihood your BIOS is toast.
    Good luck.

  • Satellite A105-S4164 i need help

I have a Satellite A105-S4164 and my son, with his great wisdom removed all partitions.  Now the reboot disc goes so far and then sends a message saying it can't find a drive and that's as far as I get.........I need help this is my favorite puter to use.

Sounds to me like the hard drive (or related component on the motherboard) is at fault.
Does this mean that it is beyond repair? Shoud I just get a new laptop or can I repair it?
If it can be repaired what order should I do things?
The DVD drive has already been replaced - what next?

  • A105-S2101 - No sound from internal speakers or headphones

I am helping a friend with her computer.  She has a Satellite A105-S2101.  She updated t Vista from XP and everything worked fine.  She did not like Vista and went back to XP.  All went well except she completely lost sound.  I have checked the obvious (volume wheel on front of computer is turned up, volume is not muted, Fn+Esc isnot muted, volume levels are all turned up).  I checked the less obvious.  The Realtek HD Audio device shows up in Devices and reports that it is functioning fine.  I reinstalled the driver just to make sure.  I made sure it was selected as the default audio device for input output, mixer, etc....  I also made sure that all of the functions were enabled on the device.  Still nothing.  I didn't know how she reverted back to XP, so I pulled out the big hammer and used the recovery CD to wipe the computer and go back to the factory setup.  Still nothing.  I have tried reinstalling the driver one more time and still nothing.
    Anyone got any ideas?

Seems like you already tried everything.
Just not clear that you did this. Double-click on the speaker icon in the Notification area of the taskbar to open the volume controls. Click Properties on the Options menu and set all the Playback items. Then check them for mute and volume levels.

  • DVD drive died - l need to reinstall XP Satellite A105

    Hi everyone,
My wife went on vacation to Hawaii, and while she was gone, her Satellite A105 (no longer under warranty with a dead DVD drive) started malfunctioning to the point where XP where freeze on boot.
I tried everything I could but it wouldn't boot.
So finally I took a USB DVD drive formatted the hard drive with killdisk and tried to use the recovery disc to at least get the unit operational. Problem is the unit will not complete the installation I get the following error:
    Windows cannot find c:/bin/errordialog.exe
I thought it was the disc so I cleaned it, and still the same thing, since I'm a student, I had access to XP pro from the msdn network so I got a copy, and still the same error.
I don't have a large enough USB flash drive, and the laptop doesn't have a floppy so I'm stuck with no way to restore the OS... needless to say the wife is not pleased with me!
I managed to get Linux installed without problem, but my wife wants her laptop back to xp and will probably hate me until I can fix what I have done. PLEASE help!
    TIA

    >feilks, your grammar and sarcasm are as bad as the design of this laptop
:) you are right about my grammar but notebook design is not so bad.
Maybe my grammar is bad but you understood me very well. Thats make me happy.
    So let be serious now.
You have notebook with defective optical disc drive.
You don't have floppy disc drive.
If you want to start OS installation from second partition you must somehow start notebook in DOS mode.
The question is how to do this. Usually you can do this using start disc (FDD) or you can create bootable start CD. The funny thing is: you cannot use any of them.
The whole time you are writing about USB. Ok I can understand what you want. Probably you want to use external USB connected CD/DVD drive. Right?
Idea is not bad but this drive will not be recognized for boot-up. Why? You must load DOS driver for external drive. How to do this? Using floppy? You don't have it.
Can you now understand my joke with gasoline tank?
BTW: sorry for all my intrusive unintelligent remarks. This is my last posting. I will not disturb you anymore. I just thought we can be realistic here.
I will follow this thread. Maybe someone else have better solution.
    Good luck!

  • No TEAC cd/dvd driver for Satellite A105 2101 not available???

I have looked everywhere for a driver to replace my Missing or Corrupted (code 39) TEAC DW-22-224E-C driver for my Satellite A105 series!  I uninstalled and reinstalled the driver, and I have the latest update.  It is still not working - i get a code 39.  I can put a cd in my internal drive, hear it spin, see the yellow light go on, then the light goes off and it stops spinning.  Any suggestions????   If I take it down to a total recovery and it still doesn't fix the driver, I lose all my software application that I have installed - if it deletes it - because I won't be able to use the cd/dvd drive to reinstall anything.  I NEED HELP PLEASE!  Thank you for anything you can do to get me out of this jam!

  • Can't reinstall Windows on Satellite A105-S2141

have a Toshiba Satellite A105-S2141 that I'm trying to reinstall Windows XP Home edition on after a bad virus infection. When I input the Windows CD (OEM cd, not original) and it loads all the drivers it'll BSOD with 0x50 PAge_Fault_In_Non_Paged_Area.
I have run several hardware diagnostics on the machine (memtest, hard drive tests, winstress) and nothing comes back bad. I put in a Vista disc for sh**s and giggles and it loads up and installs just fine on the machine.
I have swapped RAM, hdd, and even used an external optical drive all to no avail. I have used acronic universal restore from another clean xp install (it basically strips all hardware information out of the install and windows will reinstall it once you boot up) and the machine is just INCREDIBLY sluggish and has BSOD with the same blue screen or 0x7e.
It 0x50 BSOD on me if I use an OEM XP disc or the factory restore disc that came with the machine.
Out of ideas at this point.
