Satellite A110 - BIOS for Win7 and FN keys functionality

Hello
I have installed new Windows 7 on my toshiba a110 notebook and surprisingly almost every device was dected and installed by win7. There was problem with PCMCIA but driver for Vista solved the problem. But I have still problems with Function keys and additional buttons. Do you know what driver I have to install to make Fn keys work?
By the way I would like to ask if toshiba will make drivers dedicated for toshiba satellite A110 Windows 7 ?
I have another problem with BIOS.
I saw that there is new bios update avaible for my notebook but I don't know what version should I use for WINDOWS 7 ?

I thought that if I have win7 OS indepedent bios update should be fine for me, but in this version there is a warning, that 2.00-WIN bios is not dedicated for Vista users. I've heard that Windows 7 is based on Vista OS so now I completely don't now which version should I choose.

I presume your Satellite A110 will not be supported for Win7. That means you will probably not be able to find any driver, tool or utility designed for Win7.
In my opinion you should be happy that Win7 works and you don't have serious problems with well working hardware. So you probably must live without some Toshiba specific functions like FN options but most of them you can use in different settings.
About BIOS I don't say much but, as far as I know, Toshiba will not offer special Win7 BIOS update for old notebook models and if everything works well you don't need BIOS update at all.
Anyway for me it is logic to use latest BIOS designed for Vista OS.

    I stumbled across the fact that Microsoft released a hotfix rollup for Win7 and Server 2008 R2 that contains 90 hotfixes

    The articled I linked above talks about after installing 2775511 (the big hotfix rollup containing 90 hotfixes) it is also necessary to install three more hotfixes:

    I have imported all four of these hotfixes into my WSUS server. Do I need to install 277551 first and then install the other three or can all four be approved and go out at once? I guess I am hung up on the language of "After this update is installed
    .... ". I want to put all 4 of these on our Win7 machines as well as my 40+ WinServer 2008 R2 machines

    I read somewhere that over half of the updates included in Win7 SP1 and WinServer 2008 R2 SP1 were originally released as hotfixes. This means Microsoft made the decision that a large number of hotfixes would benefit every user of these two OSs
    I think your conclusion is flawed. The only thing that you can draw from the presented statistic, is that Microsoft determined that a significant percentage of updates originally released as hotfixes warranted the additional investment in regression testing
    to subsequently release those hotfixes as updates.
    The fact that they bundled these 90 hotfixes together leads me to the same conclusion.
    In fact, exactly the opposite conclusion applies: What you have in this package is all the rest of the stuff that didn't make that cut. What you have in this package are still NOT-regression tested hotfixes, they've just been bundled up for easy deployment
    (and note that three of them got further broken in the process of bundling), causing yet three more hotfixes to have to be released.
    In fact I read the MS Team Blog about this big hotfix release and they say the same thing, all users of these OSs would benefit from the installation of this hotfix rollup, not just a subset of users.
    I suspect there are a notable number of patch administrators and systems administrators who would disagree with that self-serving promotion. If, in fact, it's true that "all users" would benefit, then the product team should have invested the effort in properly
    regression testing those hotfixes, and releasing them as REAL updates. They did not; ergo the *actual* value is less than claimed.
    Of course the bugaboo here is the fact that three other individual hotfixes need to be installed after the big hotfix rollup is installed.
    Exactly! (And those are just the attempted fixes that broke something. Who knows how many other "fixes" may still result in newly discovered "broken stuff" that was never broken in the first place.)
    The second part of this question should revolve around an itemized review of the hotfixes contained in this rollup with one simple question asked for each:
    Have we actually *experienced* the issue addressed by this hotfix.
    Where hotfixes are concerned one very simple but important rule applies:
    If it ain't broken, don't try to fix it!

  • Cannot post request for U100 bios switch FN and CTRL keys

    I need the U100 BIOS that switches FN and left CTRL keys.  Followed a somewhat convoluted method of locating the BIOS page for U100 and the DL links are removed - they ask that you post the request but the topic is closed.
    I've got 5 tabs open to MSI forums - I was just looking to swap those keys.

  • Custom functionality for home and end keys?

    I don't know anything about automate, but I was wondering if it's possible to do this:
    I'm a former PC user and on PCs you could use the 'home' and 'end' keys to go to the beginning and end of one line (subsequently, you could hold shift + home/end to highlight from your current cursor position to the beginning or end of a line). This functionality is extremely helpful for text editing and programming. Luckily the versions of Word and Dreamweaver I have on mac do use this, but TextEdit, Flash, and others do not. Is there anyway to program this kind of functionality? And if so how? And why is basic functionality like this different program to program on macs? PC's were at least consistent. Thanks!

    The Command and Option shortcuts will take some getting used to, but that will work. Thanks! an external text editor would be okay for some things, but not Flash ActionScripting within a flash file.
    I just wish some of the more basic functions between mac and pc were the same. I think both platforms would have an easier time getting users to switch if they were a little more consistent and took some of the good features of each into consideration.

    I installed Windows 7 Enterprise x64 on a W500 and all keys are working fine. Some of the tools are discontinued for Windows 7. One of them is the productivity center which enable the blue Thinkvantage button. I installed the latest version of the productivity center for Vista and works fine for me even if not supported on Windows 7. I'm sure Lenovo will find another use for the Thinkvantage button under Windows 7 tho. Also the presentation director is discontinued so the Fn-F7 will start the built-in feature of Windows 7 which will basically do the same thing instead of starting the presentation director. If you used the advanced features of the presentation director you might find the Windows 7 features a bit limited, but Fn-F7 work properly.
    To make all the special keys work properly for your computer using Windows 7 you would need the following:
    Lenovo System Interface Driver
    Hotkey Features
    ThinkVantage Productivity Center (The Vista version)
    As i said the productivity center is discontinued for Windows 7 so there will probably be no support from Lenovo in case of problems with the productivity center.
    I'm not sure what you mean about related functionality so not sure about that one. If you could be a bit more specific it would be easier to say if it will work or not. The choices find in productivity center (when you press the Thinkvatange button) is mostly shortcuts to other applications/tools that have to be installed to work and don't know what you are currently using.
    You can find the available drivers and tools for your system here:

    You could check if you find something missing there. Also you can use system update 4 for Windows 7 that will download and install most of the drivers/software for you.

    unfortunately no. I have 32-bit but I found driver, and only Value Added Package wanna to install and driver to ethernet. When i install sound driver or chipset driver they doesn't work.. so i download driver from realtek and it work. But still function button doesn't works...

  • Type input and command key functions don't work

    I have regularly been experiencing problems with the type cursor not moving and not inputing type while using the keyboard. Also while this occurs command key shortcuts and the force quit dialog box won't appear on the screen after pressing the command, option and escape keys. The only temporary solution I have at the moment is choosing restart from the Apple menu.
    Any suggestions or help with this would be appreciated!

    I've had keyboard problems that I fixed by running repairs.
    You could also have a bad keyboard. If it's a non-Apple keyboard make sure you have the most up to date software for it. If you happen to have a spare keyboard plug that in and see if it happens with a different one.

  • Satellite Pro C650 - arrow, slash, and z keys are not working

    Can any one help - my slash keys, arrow keys, z and question marks have stopped working.
    I have seen several other posts on various forums for exactly the same combination of keys.

    Sounds like a keyboard malfunction.
    Can you use the external USB keyboard properly?
    If you did not notice the same problems using external keyboard, then I would recommend replacing the internal keyboard.

    This is good. :) Obviously you have enough time to play with all this. Fact is that drivers offered for new machine are absolutely the same as drivers you got with recovery image.
    With other words I think youve spent your time for .... nothing.
    Anyway, install VAP again and hopefully FN will work well.

  • SelectionChange for enter and backspace keys

    Our VSTO addin needs to know the current selection so we can sync our taskpane with current selection. We are using the SelectionChanged event to register our taskpane synch routine. The problem is that this event doesn't fire on Enter or backspace key.
    We are specifically interested in the scenarios where the Enter/backspace results in a paragraph change(para add on enter and paragraph remove on backspace of the last character in a para). It seems like a bug to me that SelectionChange wont
    fire on backspace when the delete key does fires it.
    Is there any other workaround to detect this paragraph change state?

  • BIOS for t4x and t6x

    Hello.  I have a T42 laptop that had XP and I have now upgraded to Linux Mint.  Unfortunately, the newest distributions of Linux require a CPU flag for Physical Address Extension (PAE).  The T42 does not have that flag natively.  This means I have had to use an older, longer-term-support distro.  The work arounds suggested by Linux are clumsy and frankly have not worked all that well. 
    One thing I have notice in poking around for a solution is that the T61 can make a change in the BIOS which will turn on the PAE flag and allow the newest distros to be installed.  My question is would one be able to install the T61 BIOS on the T42 or would I be creating an expensive paperweight?
    Are there other work arounds to altering the T42 BIOS or would I again brick my machine?
    I have not had experience in editing those files and the machine works well enough for what I am doing so I may just leave it alone.  On the other hand if I am able to "easily" make some changes that would allow the latest editions to be used that would be welcome.  Thanks!

    The only way to get around the PAE/NX requirement on T42 would be to install a 533MHz CPU from T43 or R52 such as PM 770 or PM 780 which support PAE unlike their 400MHz counterparts, but they would work at a lower speed in a T42 board, unless a pinmod is performed.
    While all of the above is doable, I'd advise against it. There are many distros that will run just fine on a T42 "as-is".
    I'd never attempt to force a T61 BIOS on a T42...TuuS' remark is right on the money there. If it's doable by some crazy chance, it will most certainly be deadly.
    T61 has no such limitations even with the weakest/oldest CPUs that shipped in it and supports PAE/NX "out of the box".

  • OK_CODE For ENTER and Scroll key

    when ever i press ENTER button in the module pool screen i need to capture the action code for that, because i suppose to do some action.
    i need the same for scroll button also.

    Hi Hariharan.
    Pressing ENTER returns empty function code in PAI, so you can just check OK_CODE = space . This is why you need to (at the beggining of PAI) save value of OK_CODE and then clear it. It can still hold value of previous action and if you later ENTER was pressed, the value would be incorrect. Do the following:
    - create a screen, go to Element list tab type OK_CODE in empty field (column NAME) next to value OK (column TYPE).
    - in program declare corresponding data object with name OK_CODE, so the value will be transported between screen and program

    - write PBO and PAI modules in screen flow logic and corresponding ones in ABAP program
