Satellite A120: No sound after Vista installation

Hi,
I've been handed a second laptop by work - so am unsure if the sound ever worked but..
1) I've installed Vista Business Edition
2) No sound from either the headphone jack or speakers
3) No errors in the Windows Device Manager
- ReInstalled the Realtek drivers from the tosh drivers site
- <still no sound>
Ran windows update
- <still no sound>
- When playing a sound file the graphic equaliser appears normally - i.e. bouncing up and down with the beat
Now out of ideas!!
Thanks in advance!

Hi buddy
I think I know what the problem could be.
The sound must be put as high as possible before install of Vista!
Furthermore you should check if the sound was not muted runig the previous OS!
This could affect the sound on the new installed Vista OS!!!
I have searched a little bit on the different Toshiba websites and in the knowledge central and found this useful article regarding the sound issues running Vista OS
[Sound Utility to Turn Mute Off |http://support.toshiba.com/support/viewContentDetail?contentId=1671893&pf=true]
I would appreciate some feedback from you

  • Satellite M60-BK3: Cannot get sound after Vista installation

    Hi,
I've installed Windows Vista Ultimate Edition (32bits) on my Toshiba Satellite M60-BK3, but I can't get any sound either the correct video settings. I've searched on the internet and it seems that this Satellite family is not supported to be upgraded to Windows Vista :S
Does anyone have any idea of how can I get these drivers in order to make my laptop work fine with Vista??
    Thank you.
    Rodrigo

    Hi
This Satellite M60-BK3 model is not known to me. Where did you purchase it???
Try to install a hardware diagnostic tool to find out what sound chip and graphic card this notebook supports.
Then you could download the drivers from part manufacturer site.

  • No Sound after clean installation of windows 7 from Vista

I had a problem with vista on my Hp dv6809wm laptop. My sound driver kept deleting itself and when I would do a system recovery it suddely worked again, but only for a short while. Eventually it stopped working entirely. Then my next step was an HP driver recovery, which also worked a couple times but then stopped. After a couple weeks I decided to purchase Windows 7 through my school and do a "clean" installation to wipe out everything and start fresh. Well when I finally got done, my sound still doesnt work, and im still getting the red x over the sound icon, I have no sound driver. HP support has no sound drivers for my computer for windows 7 or HP, only 3 for vista, I have tried them all and I get different error messages each time, usually saying driver not found (isnt that the point of downloading it?) or it will say cannot find media something. I have no idea what to do. Please help

There is posibilily for hardware problem, broken sound chip in particular.
Backup all of your data and try HP system recovery, choose factory installed setting.
It will restored all software and drivers as "new" condition.
If it does not fix the sound problem, 100% you have hardware problem.
    Installing Win7 wont fix it.

  • Unknown devices after Vista installation on Satellite Pro U200

I installed vista ultimate yesterday, but unfortunately my U200 is not as vista compatible as the sticker would make me believe.
Non functioning items I've identified so far:
    - Speakers and Headphone jack
    - Function Keys
    - Fingerprint Reader
Almost none of the included toshiba software installs even after turning "Application control security off"
Does anyone know where I can get the new drivers and software or when they will become available?
Otherwise really liking Vista. It is very responsive and simplifies many tasks. It looks nice too, but thats not my priority.
    Any help gratefully received
    Cheers

This might help others having similar problems. I have been able to get evrything to work except my shortcut keys.

  • Satellite U200-141: problem with drivers after Vista installation

    Hello everyone,
I've just installed Windows Vista and I'm having some problems:
    1. Hotkeys don't work (Fn + F1, f2, f3 etc... doesn't work at all).
    2. Touchpad - I've aleady installed he driver listed under Vista but although I can use the touchpad normally when pointing, clicking, etc, I can't scroll. By this I mean I can't set up the scrolling region (it used to be the right corner to scroll vertically and the bottom to scroll horizontally). I've checked the autoscroll options on IE and Firefox, and it doesn't work even there.
    3. I don't seem to be able to instal the new BIOS.
    4. The internet, play, pause, stop, etc, buttons (incorporated) don't work either.
    5. I have the product recovery CD but it's for Windows XP and I don't know how to install the drivers from there.
I'd appreciate any help anyone could provide.
    Thanks.

    Hi
    1. It will work with Toshiba designed tools and utilities only (designed for Vista at the moment not available)
    2. You need Toshiba driver for that
    3. Can not tell you much about that. I hope you have tried 3.30-WIN version
    4. It will also works with Toshiba Controls only (Vista version)
    5. You can not install drivers from recovery image. If you need drivers for WXP you can find it on Toshiba download page

  • No digital sound after Vista upgrade on Audigy Platinum

I finally got around to upgrading my Media Center PC from Win XP to Win Vista Ultimate x64. Following the upgrade and after installing the latest official drivers for my Audigy Platinum, I am unable to get any sound when using the digital out on the sound card. I also made sure to change the Audio Console setting to use SPDIF. If I switch to normal line out, it works fine and digital out worked fine on Win XP.
I tried searching but only came up with threads pertaining to the X-Fi and Audigy 2.
Is there something else Im missing to get this working in Vista?
    Thanks a bunch!!

    Hi there-
I just finally had the chance to install these drivers and I still have no sound coming out when I connect to the digital out of my Audigy card. Again, Ive verified the Audio console has been changed to SPDIF output and still nothing.
Is there something Im missing here? Are there other settings I need to change / set in Vista to get this working? This is very frustrating that this worked without issue in XP and I really dont want to have to go back to it.
    Any help is much appreciated!!

  • Satellite P100-324: Problems with Vista installation - cursor blinking

All greetings. Tried to put one of these days Windows Vista. But my attempts by failure have ended. After the first ???????????? there is a black screen and the blinking cursor. Thus any activity HDD and DVD it is not observed. BIOS recently updated up to v3.30. Help to put, already and I do not know what to think up.
For English I apologize, I from Russia:)

The disk "With" was formatted under NTFS then there was a pure installation from a loading disk through BIOS. At the start the computer starts to be loaded, and reaching a place where there should be a window of loading there is a black screen with the blinking cursor in the top left corner. Tried to wait for 10-15 mines, results has not brought.: (

  • Satellite M70 - Black screen after recovery installation

So far what I have done is put in the Product Recovery DVD-ROM. Then when restarting my computer I was prompted to restore my computer to the factory defaults and said. After it went through that process it told me to remove the disc so I did. Now all it does is reach a black screen after the Toshiba screen that gives me the options to f2 for setup and f12 for options.
I do not know what to do now to make my laptop work again. Please help.

Satellite M70 is old notebook model and I would like to know do you use recovery disc for the first time. I had Satellite M70-159 long time ago and have installed recovery image many times.
Which installations mode you have used: standard mode or expert mode?
    Try to install it again.
As Xardas wrote try to obtain Microsoft installation disc and check if everything works well.

  • Satellite L355D - No sound after upgrade to Win 7

I have downloaded all of the drivers from Toshiba, upgraded the BIOS, and still nothing.
I get sound from headphones, but not the speakers. Volume level shows activity, I can see the ReakTek High - Def Audio as installed and Windows says it's working proplely...and yet...nothing. Sound was working fine on Vista before the upgrade, so I know the speakers are good.
I have checked running services, and audio is running and working, as well. Every solution I have found online gives no results! Ack!
I'm going nuts trying to figure this out! Any ideas?!

Can you give me your model-part number as well? It should be on the label on the bottom as well and begin with a 'P'.
    Did you reinstall these?
    Realtek Audio Driver for Windows 7 (32/64)(v6.0.1.5904; 09-04-2009; 69.55M)
    Toshiba Speech System(v1.00.2520; 11-10-2009; 21.35M)
Toshiba Value Added Package for Windows Vista/7 (64)(v1.2.33_64; 11-09-2009; 45.79M)
On the other hand, maybe upgrading to Windows 7 was a coincidence. Sometimes the computer acts as if headphones are always connected if there's a problem with the port itself. Try playing audio while removing and reinserting the headphones repeatedly, even 10 or 20 times to see if the speakers will begin to work. Also, check that the ports not loose and that there's no foreign object inside the port.

  • Satellite L450D-11G - Hangs after recovery installation

The recovery disk supplied does not work. After installing all the files, it goes into a loop from booting up with "Installing Windows for the first time, through "Please wait", to flashing up the home screen then logging off and rebooting.
Is there a fix for this?

I can really laugh when I read something like this.
Recovery procedure takes pretty long time with several restarts and it can take over one hour.
So don't worry about useless laptop.
Best thing you can do is to do something else until recovery installation will be finished.
Watch TV, read a book and let recovery procedure be done completely.

  • Satellite A50 no sound after installing windows 7

where could I find the the sound driver?

I got it to work with windows 7 32 bit. I just went to hp website to support and downloads section. Type in your model number, then select windows xp as the operating system. Then download the audio driver and save it to your desktop. After the file is on your desktop you need to right click on it and click properties, then go to compatability tab and tell it to install as windows xp service pack 3. Hit apply then install. Hope it works for ya, worked for me.

  • Satellite P100 - No sound after sleep mode or hibernation on Windows 7

    Hello everybody,
I am desperately looking for a solution for my sound problem on my PC after having browsed many forums that were talking about the same issue but without effective solutions either.
I am posting this message as I am having a Toshiba P100-488 laptop running Windows 7 64 Bits (after having upgraded the CPU) and which is using a Conexant CX20549 sound chip.
Everything is working properly and so does the sound chip thanks to a Windows 7 64 Bits driver installed but I noticed that after coming back from the sleep mode or hibernation, then sound device is still recognized in the Device Manager and shown as active in the Control Panel and the task bar but unfortunately, no sound is coming out of the speakers.
I have tried several drivers (including those of Dell and HP on some sites) but still the same problem.
Also, I have tried to update the driver from Windows Update that suggested the Conexant SmartAudio HD2 but same behaviour.
Is there any of you who would have a solution for me or perhaps a relevant driver that could solve this annoying issue ?
    Many thanks in advance.
    Best Regards,
    Fred

This appears to be completely a Realtek Software (Driver) problem, that has not been fixed well over a year after the issue has been brought to public ([Toshiba Forum|http://forums.toshiba.com/t5/Audio-Sound/Sound-off-after-Sleep/td-p/173036|Toshiba Forum]) notice.
When putting the laptop to sleep and waking back up in a different power state than it went to sleep in, sounds stop working.
Example: +Power plugged in, put laptop to sleep, power unplugged, wake up laptop, no sounds (and no microphone).+
A reboot fixes this. This points to a software (driver) problem & not a hardware problem.
Putting the laptop to sleep and starting up again in the same power mode that was in effect before the sound was lost is one way to avoid this happening. However this appears random, sometimes it works, more often it doesn't, and it is often inconvenient to put the laptop to sleep again when it is noticed sound is not working.
The quick fix, (workaround) that seems to work most all of the time {color:#0000FF}(_[m-267849#267849]_){color}in another post on this forum.
This is a *TEMPORARILY FIX* to this {color:#ff0000}*VERY IRRITATING LONG PENDING PROBLEM*{color} that has been {color:#ff0000}*neglected*{color} by Toshiba and Realtek.
One ends up having no choice but to believe that the management of Toshiba does not really care all that much about its customers when they leave a known problem unfixed for years. That is sad, considering Toshiba's slogan is "Leading Innovation." A broken innovation is just that, broken, and a +real+ leader does not leave its products broken.

  • Lost control over sound after Lion installation.  2009 MacBook Pro.  Solutions?

After I updated to Lion on my mid 2009 MacBook Pro, my sound is unable to be adjusted, no matter what I try.  Took it to Apple store and it started working fine, but once I got it back the sound icon is grayed out and no ability to adjust sound again.  Not a logic board issue.  The headphone jack does not turn red.  Any solutions or anyone else with this problem?

This happened to me.  A reboot fixed it for me.

  • No sound after Vista upgrade

I've a Z60m 2529 E8U.  Came with XP.  Two years ago upgraded to Vista.  One of the recommended downloads completed killed all sound!  No volume; red "x" thru the speaker on the task bar; no "sound device listed in Device Manager (not even a category for sound any longer!).  Was SoundMax in a motherboard sound card.  Any help for this?  I've been told by Lenovo the only way to fix it is to go back to XP but I fear screwing up all other downloads associated with Vista (security, etc.).
    Help!
    Thanks.

Yes.  I have the same problem with my Z60t.  Loaded vista - no sound.  Tried everything suggested in the troubleshooting guide but ultimately went back to xp (and had no problems with sound).  Tried loading vista again and ended up in the same place.
Would love to know if anyone has a solution to this one.

  • Arch 64b/KDE 4.5.2- No sound after Skype installation

    Hi,
    I've a fully updated Arch 64b/ KDE 4.5.2 system.
Initially, sound worked fine till I installed, from repositories Skype (and needed 32b libraries).
Afterwards, every time the system boots and I log in (in KDE), I do not hear KDE's sounds and get the following error:
    "Removed Sound Device:
KDE detected that one or more internal sound devices were removed.
Do you want KDE to permanently forget about these devices?
This is the list of devices KDE thinks can be removed:
Output: HD-Audio Generic, ATI HDMI (HDMI Audio Output)"
Needless to say, Skype doesn't work either, at least the speakers, although I can hear myself knocking on the Mic through the speakers. Skpe's option provide local Pulse Audio server as the sole audio device both for input and output.
My new hardware consists of a Gigabyte GA-890FXA-UD5 (ver 2.0) MoBO, with an on board Realtek ALC889 audio codec, and an HDMI complient PCIe graphic card (Radeon  5670). My speakers are connected to the rear audio ports of the MoBo (currently I don't use the HDMI audio capability).
I've searched the ALSA Wiki and added some relevant outputs-Sorry for the long input below!
Both alsa-utils and alsa-oss are installed.
Running alsamixer I initially get Pulse Audio card at 90% for Master (Only channel displayed).  Selecting the sound card (F6) provides 2 options (besides the default): HDA ATI SB and HD-Audio Generic.
Selecting the HDA option  I get all Realtek channels at 75-100% level with only the S/PIDF muted.
Selecting HD-Audio generic selects the graphic card and displays only  S/PIDF @ zero.
Is my problem related to the fact that lspci (see below) does NOT list the 889 module, and instead I see an Intel?? module?
    Please advise!
    Thanks!

I had problems before with KDE also asking me about forgetting a device.  I believe what happened in my case was that when the system booted up, the order of the sound cards (card0, card1, etc; as listed in `aplay -l`) kept changing.  So for example, one time it would boot up and KDE would use the mobo's sound (which i want it to), and on the next bootup, the system would think my webcam was card0, so KDE would try and use the webcam for sound output rather than the mobo.
I fixed the issue by setting the order of sound cards as done here: http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Als … sound_card
    Hope this helps
