Satellite A200-10X: How to partitioning the HDD

Hi there guys!
I have a pro with my satellite A200-10X, it has only one HDD volume, and i want to make them two... and everytime i use the product recovery CD, it formats the HDD... but i do not know how to partition the HDD two get two volume spaces...
and whats worse is that when i keep on doing that over and over it eats the HDD free space... so how can i partition the HDD and recover the 200GB space the computer originally have?
i appreciate your help ..
thanx

Hello Sherif
If you use delivered recovery media you have follow options:
1. the whole HDD capacity can be used for partition C
2. the HDD capacity can be split and you can create two partitions
When you use both options Vista will create 1,4 GB partition but this partition will not be visible when you use OS.
If you want to have two partitions (C and D) start recovery procedure and after choosing the language use SETUP button on the right side. In the middle of the screen occurs small window and there you can set how much capacity should be reserved for partition C. when the recovery procedure is finished and Vista starts open Computer Management.
On the left side choose Disk Management. After doing this on the left side you will see partition marked as black. This is second partition but still not visible. Click there with right mouse button and choose option to create logical drive. Follow the setup procedure.
After few steps this partition will be set as logical drive and after formatting it will be visible in Vista Explorer.
If you have more questions please post again.

  • Satellite P10-804: How to remove the HDD?

I'd like to remove the 60Gb internal hard drive from my satellite P10-804 and replace it with a bigger drive, but cannot figure out how to get inside the case to remove the HDD.
Does anyone have details on how to do this?

    Hi
In my knowledge the HDD must be placed under the optical dirve.
To remove the HDD, first remove the battery pack and optical drive, then follow the steps below:
    1. Remove four black screws securing the aluminum shield covering the HDD and lift it out.
    2. Gently pull the HDD toward the computers front panel to disconnect it from the system board, then lift it out.
    3. Remove the four silver screws that secure the HDD case to the HDD.
But be careful. If you have no experiences ask someone with more experience in such replacements.

  • Satellite A200 - crackling sound comes from the HDD

    Hi
I have Satellite A200. When I start my notebook the crackling sound comes from the hard disc.
Does anyone know something about this?
    Thanks

In my opinion its nothing wrong with your HDD.
My HDD clicks everytime while accessing any data on the notebook and everything run ok since 3 years.
But this doesnt mean that there is no hardware problem with your HDD. Generally its not easy to say when an HDD wound starts to malfunction. My first HDD died after 6 years of usage. But the other HDD died after 1.5 years. This damage was covered by warranty.
Finally I would recommend backup your data always on an external HDD to prevent the data from damage.

  • On a new imac how much of the HDD is already used with the OS,iLife,apps..

Looking to buy my 1st ever iMac, the one Im going to get is the base one, with 250Gb HDD (I may upgrade to 320Gb for UK £29 though)
My question is how much of the HDD is already used by OS X and everything on it? I understand there is some free trial stuff onthat can be installed eg MS Office, iWork etc I would want these removed as wouldnt want them so how much is left before you start adding your own stuff
I also want to install Win XP on it so need to know what to do, 250Gb in todays computing is very stingy I think, so I need an idea
    cheers

Here's are some disk usage information from my 20" white C2D. The numbers
are running totals that include periodic software updates and some of my own
stuff -- but that would be less than 0.5 GB of the final total.
OS-X with "no optional packages" is a very usable system; it includes 'core'
applications such as Safari, iTunes, Quicktime. It does not include any of the
iLife apps or the iWork/MS_Office test-drive bloatwares.
The large increase in disk usage for a minimum Leopard system is partly due
to the inclusion of more apps in the 'core' OS package. Some things that were
optional in Tiger have become part of the "minimum" Leopard install.
The Xcode software development tools are a standard part of every OS-X
distribution, but since most customers have no use for them, they're not
included in the factory-installed disk image. If you don't plan to install
them, subtract 3.4 GB from the final tally.
    Factory pre-installed Tiger 10.4.8 & bundled software .................. 16.4 GB
Erase & Install Tiger 10.4.8 with NO optional packages .................. 2.9 GB
SoftwareUpdate to 10.4.10, with NO optional packages .................. 3.1 GB
Erase & Install Leopard 10.5.0 with NO optional packages ............... 6.6 GB
SoftwareUpdate (11/11, immediately after Leopard install) ............. 6.7 GB
Install Xcode SW development tools from Leopard DVD ................. 10.1 GB
    Install & SoftwareUpdate iLife'08 (except iWeb & GarageBand) ....... 12.3 GB
SoftwareUpdate to Leopard 10.5.1.................................................. 12.5 GB
IMO, 250 GB is FAR more than you'll ever need for installable software plus
a sizeable collection of music/photos. OTOH, no amount of disk space will
ever be enough for an avid music/photo/video junkie, and everyone should
have an external backup drive. So, stick with the standard internal drive and
    buy more external storage.
...a billion here, a billion there -- and pretty soon you're talkin' 'bout alot of money,
    Looby

  • S35dvd: How to remove the HDD?

Can anyone tell me how to remove a hard drive from a s35dvd please? I can not find a service manual anywhere and I need to remove the drive to try to remove a load of viruses that i can't remove with windows running or even in safe mode.

    Hi
Unfortunately this Toshiba unit it unknown to me and I dont have found any officials documents about the HDD replacing.
But as far as I know there should be only 2 possibilities how to remove the HDD.
1.) The HDD slot is placed at the bottom of the unit and you need to remove only the HDD cover.
    Or
2.) The HDD is placed in the notebook. In this case you have to remover the keyboard and some covers to replace the HDD
Well, I can give you only this info. I think if you want to know the detailed instruction you should contact the Toshiba service partner because he has a more detailed informations about such cases.

I have a new Satellite L305D toshiba laptop that i am unable to partition.
    It runs on windows vista.
I have freed the hdd up to 74gb out of 120 gb capacity.
Recently i used paragon partition utility that reports cross linked files and hence is unable to do the partition.
The Vista shrink utility does not even display anything it appears as 0.

Maybe you can post a screenshot of Vista disk management utility because Im a little bit confused now. You wrote about 74GB free space and Vista doesnt show anything

  • Satellite A200-1AX: How to connect to the HDMI port of TV

    Hi,
I own A200-1AX (PSAE6E) laptop, with ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2600. The video card has hardware support of high definition audio and video, but there is NO HDMI connector. I want to know, if there is any way to connect the laptop to the HDMI Input of the TV?
    Thanks!

Yes it is very stupid situation but you must understand that every notebook manufacturer offer notebook with different hardware platform and different ports. Because of that it is very important to pick up info about all possibilities how to use the notebook with external devices.
    Anyway bye and good luck.

  • Satellite M110 - How to replace the HDD?

Have to replace my Hard drive as the original is f&%$ed.
I have tried to connect the original hard drive to my other laptop via a USB to Sata cable but it is not showing up. You can feel it spinning. I was able to do a HDD test on it and it failed in the Toshiba via a bootable CD. Since I can access the HDD to get to the recovery section, what is the best way to reinstall windows XP on it so I can use the original XP key on the bottom of the laptop. As I know that you usually have to have the right version or OEM copy of windows in order to use certain keys.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Also would a Western Digital Scorpio Blue WD1600 8MB 160GB 2.5" SATA Hard Drive be suitable for the Toshiba as they both are SATA.

    Hi
Your posting is a little bit confusing... Which HDD you using in which notebook now?
If you want to install the OS on your old/new HDD, therefore you cant use a SATA to USB converter. Therefore you have to use it as internal HDD.
Furthermore a Western Digital HDD would be suitable due SATA port. :)

  • Satellite A200-1N1 - How to activate AGP?

Help me, please! I speak english very bad.
My notebook: Toshiba Satellite A200-1N1, OS: Vista
My problem: when I open program, message shows up: "*WARNING* +The game may not be consistant because AGP is deactivated. Please activate AGP for consistancy+"
My question: How can I activate AGP?
I'm looking forward your answer... Thank you.

I've never heard of "activate AGP" before so as far as I'm concerned if your video drivers are working and you can watch stuff like DVDs etc then AGP is already activated.
It does sounds like the game you are trying to run isn't compatible with the onboard Intel GMA X3100 which isn't surprising considering Intel do not make powerful gaming cards.
However double check with the game's manufacturer maybe they have bug fixes or updates for your laptop.

  • Satellite 1410-902: How to remove a HDD

Hi. Does anyone know how to remove a HDD from a Toshiba Satellite 1410-902?
Opening the panel there it is the HDD, but there is no clear way to get it out...I don't want to force.
    Thanx for the help.

    Hi
The HDD slot is placed at the bottom of the unit. You have only to remove the screw which secures the slot cover. Then you can simply remove the HDD.
    But be careful.

  • Satellite A200-17O - How to restore Windows to factory settings?

    Hi
I have a Satellite A200-17O. I want to restore Windows Vista to factory settings, I do not need to back up any files. I do not have the Product Recovery CD. When I press F8 and click the "Repair Computer" option, it will give me all the options, but when I click the option to fully recover the system (the one on the bottom), it will simply open up a window telling me to back up my data, then theres an "OK" button, and when I click that, the window will simply close and go back to the options menu. All I want is to get Vista back to Factory settings.
    Thank you for your help.

    Hello
Yes, normally you can restore your notebook back to factory settings using the HDD recovery option. Therefore you should follow the instructions here:
    http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/HTD1303440001R01.htm
If it doesnt work you have to use the Toshiba recovery disk. If your notebook didnt come with such a recovery disk you have to create it yourself using preinstalled recovery creator tool. This is mentioned in your user manual, have you checked it?
Therefore you need some blank DVDs. I would recommend DVD-R from Verbatim or TDK. Many users here have good experience with these brands.
If you have more questions, just post again! ;)

  • How to remove the HDD passwordon Portege R500?

    Hello,
do you know how to remove HDD password? I know current password, but if I try to remove it by changing from current password to blank password it doesn't work.
    There is still current password.
    Thanks

    Hi
I hope you are using the correct and right HDD password because its needed to remove and to delete the existing HDD password.
If you would forget the HDD password then the HDD would be locked and you would be not able to unlock the HDD!!!
Generally the HDD password can be deleted in the BIOS.
Please ensure that other password would be removed too.
I found a useful forum thread about a similar HDD password issue:
    http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?messageID=66386&#66386
According to the info posted by user jonr17 you should firstly ensure that all other passwords like BIOS, User and Supervisor passwords are removed.
Then try to remove the HDD password from the BIOS.
    Bye

  • How to format the HDD on my iMac before restoring it from Time Machine.

I need to re-format my HDD to enable enlarging the BOOTCAMP partition.
I had BOOTCAMP installed since day one and needed to enlarge that partition. As it was the only partition on the drive I had to delete it as increasing the size was not possible.
Having done that, the HDD showed it had less capacity available. I could not use the vacated space from BOOTCAMP.
I now need to reformat the HDD, restore all the "Apple" data and make a larger partition for BOOTCAMP.
I can not find the procedure to do this.
Anyone who is familiar with this procedure?
    Thanks,
    Kommer

    Before you do anything: remember
    - that formatting your startdisk can not be done from that disk itself, you can do it from the Restore Partition (if you have lion or higher).
    - that the bootcamp partition should be deleted with the Bootcamp Assistant !!
    - that when everything Mac is/was OK, you can make a new Bootcamp partition after the original Bootcamp Partition is gone, you do not necessarily reformat the start disk and no need to create partitions: Bootcamp Assistant does that for you !!
