Satellite A200-19I is pretty loud - cooler is running permanently

Hi,
I have since a week a Toshiba Notebook, the Satellite A200-19i. The Notebook is very loud in my opinion. One cooler is running permanently and the other one running sometimes. Or is this noisy thing not a cooler?
Please help me and sorry for my bad english. I am from Germany.
Thanks,
Arne

Hello Arne
In the world of mobile computing it is not easy to design absolutely quite notebook especially if the hardware components are faster and more powerful. Heat is common problem by mobile computing and most important thing is hardware protection. I know that notebooks are sometimes very loud, especially if the cooling fan is dirty.
I have the same notebook series. It is Satellite A200-1CR. I use it for every day work and till now I am pretty satisfied. Vista runs well and using usual applications like Word, Excel, IE, Skype and WinDVD I didnt noticed loud running cooling fan. Maybe I should check it with CPU intensive applications.
Dear Arne I do not know how much experiences you have with notebooks but in my opinion you are too sensitive. You can check some other notebook models from different manufacturers but I am really skeptic you will find noiseless notebook.
Bye and good luck!

  • Satellite A200 - eblib.dll is not designed to run on windows

My Satellite A200 laptop started giving me warnings saying *eblib.*dll is not designed to run on windows or contains an error.
The file was deleted with combofix from c:\programdata\xp.
    Do I need this file?
I checked with antivirus both McAfee and Alvira plus several spyware programs and the laptop appears to be clean.
I had the same problem with odbc32.dll. Replaced it with a copy from another vista laptop with success.
    Is this file needed?
The only info I found says it is from Compal Electronics but doesn't say what it does or what component uses it.
Would someone send me a clean copy of this file, PLEASE!
    Help
    Thank-you

Do NOT use CCleaner! I work in an ASP and the number of machines that have had to be rebuilt because of this (plus it opens the backdoor to ther nasties).
odbc32.dll is needed, don't get rid of it and as for eblib.dll, it doesn't appear to be harmful, and could be left over from an install process. If your AV isn't reporting it as a threat, then just leave it. If you want to get rid of it, rename it first, reboot and make sure that everything works, then delete it. If something stops working, rename it back, reboot and all is well.
Don't just delete a file or use a freeware cleaner, they wreck registries and systems.

  • Satellite C55-A - after BIOS update cooling fan runs faster

    Hello,
I was informed by Toshiba application that new BIOS version is available I confirmed it and BIOS was updated. Now I have problem. Cooling fan runs faster than before and it is very annoying.
Can I find older BIOS version somewhere and roll it back? I don't need it if it doesn't work properly.
Now I have version 1.40. Is there some solution for this new version?
Message was edited: posting has been translated

Toshiba EU driver page provides only the latest BIOS version.
Furthermore the BIOS downgrade isnt possible using the win-bases BIOS update.
In order to downgrade the BIOS on Toshiba unit, you will need to use the traditional BIOS update method which requires special BIOS version. This is available only for authorized service provider.
At the other hand there must be an serious reason why the cooling module run faster.
Maybe the cooling method has been improved in new BIOS just to ensure that internal parts would be cooled down properly.
Its just an assumption but I think it makes sense
By the way: after each BIOS update, you should load the BIOS default settings and should save the changes. If you havent done this in the past, do it

  • Satellite R830-182 - cooling fan runs permanently

    Hi,
I have just purchased a R830-182. The fans runs 100% of the time, starting with the moment I boot up. Is this right, I expect the fan on a laptop to kick in when the CPU reaches a certain temperature? This is annoying as it is fairly noisy. Have also tried running the laptop at lowest possible power - no software open, WIFI off, battery saver power management, screen brightness turned down etc to no avail.
Anyone out there with the same model know if this is an issue or just how this laptop it is supposed to work?

I agree with as***: change the cooling mode in Win 7 power management

it seems that your notebook has not been equipped with an fingerprint. But check if the fingerprint software is installed. If its installed, then remove this from the system.
Furthermore I recommend changing some BIOS settings:

Dynamic CPU frequency mode (not sure about the available options but try different posibilites)

  • Satellite A200-1M8: monitor switches off and can't back to Vista

    Hello,
I have Satellite A200-1M8 with original Vista. Sometimes I have some problems with dispaly (I have the newest drivers).
The monitor switches off (not as usually but it is grey instead of black) every application run smoothly (I hear music of movie playing) but I can't back to windows.
When I push button hibernation and I try to back to windows I see the blue screen then the computer resets.
It happens really often and is really frustrating because my internet disconnects and downloads.
I don't think that temperature is too high because I feel it is cool. How to repair this?
Maybe some graphic settings or new BIOS?
Please help me. I can't stand this!

    Hello
Is your notebook preinstalled with delivered recovery image or you have installed your own operating system?
I have Satellite A200-1CR preinstalled with original Toshiba recovery DVD. I use the notebook pretty intensively every day but I have never noticed something like this. Since when have you noticed this strange behavior?

  • Strange issue with my Satellite A200

    Hello,
I have a problem with my Satellite A200-1DY.
In last two days this issue occurs two times. When I start the laptop there are only three icons in systray, speaker, battery and network icon, then, the laptop stops and doesn't work. I can not use the mouse, or keyboard and the fan cooler doesn't work.
When I put my hand over the area where there the processor is placed it is pretty warm. I can't reset the laptop. At first I must disconnect it from the electricity. After doing this I can start the laptop again. The fan cooler starts running very fast and it removes much heat from the processor area.
    What can I do?
Sorry for my horrible English and marry Christmas.

    Hello
At first I must say that your English is very good and understandable. Now after this compliment get back to described issue. ;)
I have Satellite A200 too and I have installed Vista and WXP several times and have never noticed similar issue. I must say that all my tests were with clean preinstalled operating system.
In your case, it is not easy to say why this happen but fact is that some process must be loaded and at this point notebook blocks. Usually if you keep down power button for about 5 seconds he notebook should be switched OFF.
You must understand that nobody of us knows what your personal OS configuration is and if there is some application you have installed last days. Exact some application that runs in the background can not be loaded properly and notebook blocks.
What to do? You can enter MSCONFIG and check all entries in Systemstart. Try to disable all stuff you do not need and test it again. Maybe you will be lucky and find out if there is something that blocks notebook startup.
Sorry but it is really not possible to say why this happen. If you want you can try to roll back OS to earlier time before this starts in hope the OS will runs as before.
    Bye and good luck!

  • Satellite A200 28H : F6 floppy won't work while installing XP

    Hi,
I'm trying to install Windows XP pro on my new laptop (Satellite A200 28H), and since it needs SATA driver, I have downloaded the appropriate driver for my laptop (Satellite A200 28H), put them on a floppy to use with a USB floppy drive (which works fine), pressed "F6" when appropriate and all... But it just won't work. I have had a computer technician background for a few years, so even thouh this is no longer my job and I might be a bit rusty, I think I still know at least a bit what I'm doing... Well, apparently I'm more out of picture than I thought !
I have tried several things, and here is what I get :
    * If I do not use the floppy at all, Windows XP will not find the hard disk. That was expected, no problem here, save for the fact it is utterly useless to me :)
    * If I force the driver on the floppy, despite Windows telling me it already has a driver it can use, then within 10 seconds I get a BSOD with the 0x7B stop message (boot device not found or unreachable).
    * If I use the floppy, but do not force the driver and instead listen to Windows ("oh, you already have a driver ? Ok, then, use it and nevermind that floppy"), I can actually finish the installation process. Windows will copy all the files it needs on the drive, it will even reboot properly after that and go on installing itself. But when the installation is over, the computer will reboot, I will see the loading screen for a second, and then, BSOD stop 0x7B again.
I'm pretty sure I have downloaded the proper driver for my computer. Actually, I also tried a couple of wrong drivers too, just to be sure (ie I should use Intel Matrix for ICH8M, but I also tried the one for ICH7M to be sure), I tried with drivers downloaded from the Toshiba website, from the Intel website, and from whatnot-other-website-for-newbies-or-powerusers, and I always have the same behaviour as described above.
I have tried partitioning / formating during the installation, and I also have tried leaving the file system untouched. If I do the latter, the only difference is that I am offered 2 possible OS to boot from, both being Windows XP, and both failing miserably.
It's probably interesting to mention that, if I use the recovery DVD and start fresh and clean with Vista, I have no problem whatsoever, save for the gazillion process loaded at startup, the already half-used RAM and the hundred or so useless applications I don't give a darn about... And the fact that some applications I need to work just can't be installed on Vista.
If anyone has any idea about how to fix it, I'd be most grateful !

    Hi
The procedure including the SATA drivers into the Win XP using the external USB floppy drive is very easy.
First of all you have to download the Storage Manger and have to put it on the floppy.
During the Win XP Setup procedure you have to press F6 button to include it from the external floppy drive and follow the further instruction on the screen.
    _Note;_
Very important is that your Win XP CD would contains the SP2!!!
Without the SP2 a BSOD could appears and could break up the installation!!!
Dont format or dont create any partitions after the SATA driver installation. This can erase the installed and included SATA driver from the HDD.
Last but not least some external FDD drives are not supported. I read that some users had some problems with an external FDD drives they tested another drive and it worked finally
Check the recommended points maybe it could be useful
    Bye

  • Satellite A200 - Format C drive and reinstall

    Hi,
I have a Toshiba Satellite A200 with a 32 bit windows vista, that was purchased about 4 years ago. It has become extremely slow and crashes on a regular basis. I want to format the C drive and re-install windows vista . I will subsequently re-install all drivers. I have questions about the process
    1. I have the recovery disk provided by Toshiba. Is this enough to do what I need above? Does it also have windows, because I checked the disk and couldn't find the windows installation files
    2. Will the recovery process format all partitions or only my windows drive (C:). I prefer if it only formats C: drive and not the other drives. However I am still backing up all drives just in case
    Thanks for the help.

    My answers:
    # Recovery disc cannot be compared with Microsoft OS installation disc. Microsoft installation disc contains OS only. Recovery disc contains recovery image. This recovery image contains OS, all important drivers, Toshiba specific tools and utilities and some additional software. After recovery image installation everything will be installed and what you must do is to configure OS.
    # Recovery process will format whole HDD and al saved data will be deleted. If you are able to install OS using HDD recovery procedure (F8 at start up Repair my computer Toshiba recovery installation) without using recovery DVD than only partition C will be formatted. Your A200 is pretty old and I dont know if this HDD installation was available at this time.
If you have more questions you are welcome.

  • Satellite A200-1UM - No start and not formatting possible

    Hello at all
At first i want to excuse if my english is not so well and maybe a little bit wrong.
I have a Toshiba Satellite A200-1UM since Cristmas 2007 and until now I never got any big problems with it but now I got a huge one.
Yesterday when I came back from school I started like always my computer first, to check my emails etc.
At first all was normal the normal screen appeared : "Toshiba Leading inovations",after the screen with the blinking underscore, but after that.. a progress bar appeared with the text about it : "Windows is loading files"
I thought: hm k let him load his files...
Okay after loading all seemed to be okay the next screen came: (C) Microsoft Corp. with the moving green bar on it, normal too...
But then after, it just became black.. nothing happened anymore ..
I waited.. and waited.. and waited, but nothing happened..
Then I restarted, maybe it would work now, but it happened still the same same loading screen and so on ... and it became black again ..
Then I tried to start it in Save mode (I pressed F5 at the 2nd loading screen)
I tried all diffrent options of Save mode, but it always stopeped at drivers\disk.sys ... I got like crazy ... I tried out the diffrent options at F5: start at last normal version, and so on, but it all stoped at any time... and nothing happened than anymore..
Than I had enough I put out my product discovery and wanted to format all.. At the first screen I presses F12 and than I went on with CD/DVD (Product Recovery Disc), but than this **** progress bar appeared again and the the (C) Microsoft Corp Screen and it got black again *wuhuuuo -.-'*
Result -> Nothing works at all .. I tried to get help at some german forums, but they gave the advice I better should try it in this forum, because im actually down with my nervs, cause im on grammar school at the last year and I NEED my lap top for homeworks and all ...
I hope you can help me ...
    Best greet's from Germany..

    Hi xanbur
Thats really strange and I can understand you and that you are down with your nerves. Such thins always happen if you need the notebook immediately. :(
However, Im not sure but for me it sounds like that your HDD is faulty.
Do you have a Microsoft Windows disk? If yes, please try to install Windows from this disk.
If it doesnt work Im pretty sure that your HDD is faulty but you can check this with a HDD diagnostic tool. Therefore you can use Drive Fitness Test. Its easy to use and you can make a bootable disk. From this disk you can boot and start the test.
    http://www.hitachigst.com/hdd/support/download.htm
I had a similar issue last year on my notebook. I cant start the OS or format it using the Toshiba recovery disk. I tried the Drive Fitness Test and it told me that I should exchange the HDD. After this the notebook worked again.
    Good luck! :)

  • Built in web cam has stopped working - Satellite A200

The built in webcam on my Satellite A200 stopped working yesterday and I dont know why. I have not installed any new software recently but it is not recognized when I use Skype or any other program. When trying to use the camera, an error tells me no camera is recognized or it is switched off.
I have uninstalled the driver and reinstalled several times but it has not helped.
Please, does anybody have any ideas? (OS Vista).

    Hi
Sorry but it is not easy to say what is wrong there. I recommend you to roll back OS to earlier time using system restore tool. I am pretty sure you will be able to use cam again.
I have cam on P200 and use it with Skype without any problems. I really hopr you will be able to solve this.
    Good luck!

  • After HDD exchange Satellite A200-1YW began to turn off

    Hi!
I have a problem with Toshiba Satellite A200-1YW.
After changing the hard drive (company) I got my notebook repaired, but a day later he began to turn off the notebook Connected to the power.A When the battery is not off, or When it is plugged in the bios ...
    someone help ??...
ps. I know not Whether it's a good rating so sorry
ps. sorry for mistakes but I am Polish and I do not know English well: (

Hmmm... the whole think is pretty strange.
Fact is that HDD exchange should not have any negative influence and not be reason for these shut downs. I have done this numerous times on different models and Ive never noticed something like this.
In my opinion there must be some other reason.
What I am missing in your first posting is exact explanation when this happen exactly .
When the OS will be loaded or later?

  • Satellite A200-27Z - How to unblock KeNotify on Windows Vista?

    Hi everyone,
Well, that subject pretty much says it all. I'm doing a cleanup - on my Satellite A200-27Z - and I my Windows Vista keeps blocking KeNotify.exe on startup.
Answers on Google etc. are contradictory - "it's safe!" - "no, don't touch it!" - So, what is the answer with this one? Keep blocking it? I think so; as it as reads keystrokes; which seems a bit unfair as it never told me it was doing it (
    What do you all think?
    Thanks,
    B

    Hi
The KeNotify shouldnt be blocked because it belongs to Toshiba Flash Cards that you need for FN keys so please unblock this application.
If the Windows firewall is blocking, you can unblock it in settings:
Control panel > Windows Firewall > Change settings >
I hope I could help you a little bit.

  • Which HDD-brand is usually build into a Satellite A200-29L originally?

    Hello there, im new here.
I got a question for you, maybe someone here can help me with this.
I got an old, used Toshiba Satellite A200 29L here and i ask myself which harddrive i supposed to be in this when bought originally.
The notebook is atleast 5 years old, probably even older.
At the moment there is a Fujitsu harddrive with 250 GB in it, but i wanted to know if this is the laptops original harddrive with which it was sold back then in store.
The reason i ask myself this question is that this notebook has been with me for a while and i can't remember if i ever changed the harddrive of it or not. This problem gets more aggravated as i just found a 500 GB harddrive of the company Toshiba here and i can not remember of which notebook i would have removed that.
I found this (might be in german):
    http://www.toshiba.de/discontinued-p...lite-a200-29l/
Here it is written that this notbook comes with a 250GB harddrive (although the manufacturer of it is not mentioned).
    On the other hand:
    http://www.amazon.de/TOSHIBA-Satelli.../dp/B00518EOKI
Based on this link it seems that there are official 500 GB harddrives for this notebook as well.
I know this might be a strange question, but i am pretty sure that some of you got an answer for me here
Thank you in advance and best regards.

Maybe it sounds stupid now but it is not possible to find such information. All we can find is the HDD capacity. In the notebook specification is not mention which brand is the HDD.
Maybe someone with identical notebook model can help you.
Anyway, you can exchange or upgrade HDD anytime you want. All you need is SATA HDD (SATA connector).
Satellite A200 is pretty old notebook model but what you can do is to upgrade it with SSD and install Win7 32bit. Believe me you will be surprised how fast this old piece of hardware can be.

  • Satellite A200 does not start anymore.

Hello, im trying to find a whats going on with my laptop. It's a Satellite A200 on Windows 7 professional.
From a few days ago i cant start the laptop anymore. It doesnt look like a software issue because when i push the power button, the only thing that happens is the power led turns on (blue color) and, 2 seconds later, starts to blink orange. And never passes this stage.
The screen remains as off, and i think, the BIOS does not start as well.
Ive already tried to remove the Ram and the hard drive - Keeps doing the same. Doesnt even bleeps over the missing Ram or drive!!!
Anyone have any ideia about whats going on??!! Please anwser!
Sorry for the english. Portugal here ;)

    > Do you kown if this is a comom problem with this laptop model?? Because i have read in a few forums that is a common problem with this laptop
Unfortunately, this is a common problem for many laptop models. My old laptop (non Toshiba one) also had such problem with southbridge malfunction. I just threw it into garbage as replacing mobo is pretty expensive procedure. it's better to buy new one or second-hand

  • Satellite A200 shuts down randomly - I may have a solution

    Hello,
I am having a Toshiba satellite A200-1sj, but the laptop have issues and it shuts down it self randomly.
I have changed thermal paste of the CPU and GPU and this is not related to heat because it some times could power off even after first start when the board is cold. I have started the board out of the case, just bare naked with the cooling pipes on it and it would shut again, without its hard, wifi adapter or modem so this is not related to them. I have also tested with another power charger from a friends A200-23k and it still shuts down so its not about it either.
BUT !!! The big but is what I have discovered and I think toshiba is to blame! This issue is related to the voltage regulator some how and it is not working properly for some add reason. I have also found some kind of solution last night after a bios save and exit the fan stuck at 100% and the machine have not shut down since then and it looks like when the fan is regulated and it rises and lowers the voltages then the problem appears.
The sad thing is that i left the cpu from bios at low profile so it will run at only 1GHz and I am afraid to change it within bios because i may loose the 100% fan operation and the machine will get unstable again! :(.
Current bios i have is 2.60 and I am thinking to try 5.30 if the machine starts to shut down again but i think this would be no go because the fan will regulate again ;(.
Is there someone from Toshiba who can create a bios with a constant voltage for the fan so it wont have up and down times which could be less painful for the regulator i guess and may bring stability at decent noise.
I am open to any suggestions,
    Best Regards,

YES I have successfully restored my bios.
Here is the URL from which you can download the proper boot disc crisis tool: http://www.mediafire.com/?3ccb9m0kv0m
You first need to make your bootable floppy disk. I have made mine with CRISDISK.BAT from the archive. This is an easy to use bat file and in some cases slight editing may be needed if the usb floppy you are using is recognized as letter B: You just search for "A:" and change the values to B:
After you have your bootable disk you have to delete the file BIOS.WPH and copy the desired bios for your model on the floppy with the same name(bios.wph).
Then you need to create autoexec.bat file. - this could be easy, you just create an text file with notepad and rename it autoexec.bat after you have the needed lines in it.
    In my case i used autoexec.bat with the following lines: phlash16.exe /x /s /BBL /MODE=2 bios.WPH
When I used the bat file with mode=3 which is most common way out on the forums it did not worked but with mode 2 things went faster and smooth. Mode 3 took around 20 minutes in reading the floppy disk with a short pauses looking like flashing block by block but on the end flashing result was = BSOD. So for those who are unable to restore the bios with the guides out there you better flash using mode=2 (preserve dmi) just like I did. Still if mode=2 also is not working you may experiment with the other two options remaining.
I will explain those modes for you in case you are wondering.
0 - update the bios and not the dmi
1 - update the dmi and not the bios
2 - update the dmi and the bios (preserve dmi)
3 - update the dmi and the bios (renew dmi)
The bios mode update information above is information I found on the web in another forum so I can not take credit for it.
    P.S.
The only thing kept me going when I used older versions of phlash16.exe was that it actually read the disk and it was for more then 5 seconds which mean that the motherboard was searching for the proper image and this can be a successful way to revive your bios.
