Satellite A200-1M8 - battery loose power quickly

Hi
Please I need help... I have got Toshiba Satellite A200-1m8.
Operating system: Windows XP Pro SP3.
I noticed that the Wireless connection, running the laptop on battery power, drops and sometimes doesn't connect but plugging the power back to Normal power it easily does
I searched for similar issues and found that Intel for wireless devices does this to save battery power. I followed the instructions I found, and Wi-Fi worked well by increasing the power management in the Wi-Fi device settings ,but the main problem here is when I increase power management ,running the laptop on batteries, the computer seemingly to lose battery power quickly.
Should I change the deficient part by the manufacturer or what to do .......??
Thanks.

Hi again bro Horwath and sorry for being late.
Actually i'm still not sure/precise about testing the battery power while knowing what is running on the background. It is somehow confusing to keep on watching precisely.
Anyway here is what i came up with:
But before that the toshiba power saver settings that i use on battery is 3/4 towards the high preformance ( less long battery life ).
(every thing is the same as the default battery power profile except those: no hibernation..no system standby.. no Hdd power off and monitor off in 30 minutes)
first test:
the overall battery useage seemed to last between 1:20 or 1:30 hours.
running internet explorer with 3 to 4 websites in the same window....winmap....and [2 msn messenger (background) ]
it seemed that i lost 2% within 2 to 3 minutes ( but i still feel it is rapid ).... then leaving the computer idle seemed to have lost like 1% within 3 to 4 minutes.
second test:
The overall battery useage also seemed to last between 1:20 or 1:30 mintues.
i was running adobe photoshop for some minutes .....[ with msn messnger ( background ) ]
consumed like 60% of the battery power whithin like 40 minutes...
and the rest was left to the computer being idle just running 2 msn messnger on the background and consuming 40% within 30 to 35 minutes.
I also noticed that battery consumes 2% quickly on computer usage or apparently on _wireless internet usage_
Those are what i noticed, but still not sure 100%.
Anyway besides that my battery should last for 2 hours as i saw in some websites for this toshiba model .
In addition, why shouldn't the wireless device run normally like on any other computer on the default/normal level of power management so that i can have the normal battery power life.
Sorry for the complications in here :S.
thanks.

  • Satellite A200-1M8 PAE6E: CD/DVD drive issue - power calibration error

    Hi,
I have an Satellite A200-1M8 ( or A200 PAE6E ) with Vista and for some time I've been trying to burn some dvds which I failed due to power calibration error.
I tested my DVD-ROM and it works normally, the problem is it does not read (recognise) every dvd.
Is there anyone who can help me out about this?
Or how can I learn which type of media my DVD-ROM would read?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi
I think I have founded an interesting article for you:
[Is there a list of supported type of CD-R/-RW or DVD-R/+R/-RW/+RW/-RAM discs which should be used?|http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/ann.jspa?annID=36]
But generally a power calibration error means that its the media is faulty or not compatible with the drive.

  • Satellite A200-1M8: monitor switches off and can't back to Vista

    Hello,
I have Satellite A200-1M8 with original Vista. Sometimes I have some problems with dispaly (I have the newest drivers).
The monitor switches off (not as usually but it is grey instead of black) every application run smoothly (I hear music of movie playing) but I can't back to windows.
When I push button hibernation and I try to back to windows I see the blue screen then the computer resets.
It happens really often and is really frustrating because my internet disconnects and downloads.
I don't think that temperature is too high because I feel it is cool. How to repair this?
Maybe some graphic settings or new BIOS?
Please help me. I can't stand this!

    Hello
Is your notebook preinstalled with delivered recovery image or you have installed your own operating system?
I have Satellite A200-1CR preinstalled with original Toshiba recovery DVD. I use the notebook pretty intensively every day but I have never noticed something like this. Since when have you noticed this strange behavior?

  • Satellite A200-1M8 - Can I get a Windows 7 upgrade disk?

    Hey there, regarding Windows 7.
I have purchased my laptop model which is Toshiba Satellite A200-1M8 in year 2007.
    I want to know first:
If i'm able to upgrade it for free or for money according to Windows Vista to Windows 7 upgrade thing you offer, if yes to which Version of windows 7 it will be upgraded (Home, Professional, etc..)
If not, can I order Toshiba to make a Recovery DVD for Windows 7 specially for my laptop version and if yes, to which version of Windows 7 will toshiba give me?
    Regards.

    Hi
All informations that you want to know you can find on the Windows 7 upgrade page:
    http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com > Windows 7 Learn More
As you can see a free upgrade is only possible on notebooks purchased from June 26, 2009 to January 31, 2010.
Furthermore your model isnt Windows 7 supported. There is only a limited driver support for a clean Windows 7 installation and so you cant get a Windows 7 disk from Toshiba.
But all these informations are already on the Toshiba page ;)

  • Satellite A200 short battery life time - it discharges very quickly

Today I restored my Satellite A200 to factory settings.
This is about the 4th time I've done this in the last 2 years.
Now my battery life is screwed up.
100% charged with about 10 minutes remaining (image: http://img27.imageshack.us/img27/3548/100g.png)
85% charged with 8 minutes remaining (image: http://img14.imageshack.us/img14/723/46880270.png)
    What's going on?
I'm afraid if I restore to factory settings again to 'fix' the problem it will only make it worse and end up being 2 minutes remaining at fully charged.

    Hi!
    I agree with Jayjay.
If you have the same problems with battery of your sisters notebook its not a battery issue.
Im not sure but I think the only problem could be the mainboard but try to update the BIOS first.
On the Toshiba website you can find all updates for your notebook:
    http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com => Support & Downloads => Download Drivers
If it doesnt work you can search for an ASP on the Toshiba website. The technicians can check your notebook.
    Good luck!
    Bye

  • Satellite A200 - empty battery after 2 hours

My notebook SATELLITE A 200-BJ runs exactly 2 hours when I take plane "save energy" - then I must to charge it. It's normal?
i have bouhgt it 1 mounth ago and I don't konow what to do :(
    Please help me, thx

    Hi
Why should it not be normal? I presume that you now very well that Vista uses much more resources as WXP and it is logic that power consumption is also higher than on WXP.
To be honest 2 hours is OK for this notebook model. I have Satellite A200-1CR and battery also runs about 2 hours. Sometimes less than 2 hours but it depends on notebook usage.

  • Does Satellite A200-1M8 support 800Mhz RAM?

    Hello everyone!
Does my Toshiba A200-1m8 support DDR2 800Mhz RAM?
    thx from advance!

The machine has a frontsidebus of 800Mhz, but it only supports DDR2-667 RAM.
So, you wont have a benfit when you install faster modules.
    Sorry mate

  • Satellite A200-1M8 - Need drivers for Windows 7

I have a problem with finding drivers for my computer for Windows 7.
I've looked at Windows7 beta drivers but there are 3 different numbers and I don't know what to chose
    -A200-ST2041
    -A200-ST2042
    -A200-ST2043
I would like to know if it would be better to instal Windows 7 x64 or x86?
    tnx for the answers

    Hi
The beta drivers on the Toshiba US page are designed for the US models and so you cant find your A200-1M8. I think it makes no difference what model you choose. Just try it! ;)
Furthermore its your choice if you install Windows 7 x64 or x86. Some older applications maybe not run properly on 64bit OS. So its depending on the applications that you run.
But I will buy Windows 7 64bit because I have an old system with Windows XP where I can run my older applications.

  • Battery looses power by 12 pm.

My battery has been dying very quickly and my phone has been getting very hot. I went to the store to get it checked out and they said i had a bad battery and it was replaced but it keeps doing it. What the heck is going on with my phone???

What exactly do you do with the phone in a "typical" day?  As crb said, allowing GPS &/or WiFi turned on all the time is a quick drainer. I charge once a day ... probably could go 1.5 days if I wanted.  That gives me about an hour or 2 of surfing, 5-8 calls, an hour of music ...  so I'm certainly not a "power user" ...  A "hot" phone, IMHO, is likely due to heavy CPU use - music, internet radio, video, etc.  I did a "test" this last weekend on a 2 hour trip. I turned on GPS, had Google NAV running the whole time, but had it in my car charger ...  The battery never got hotter than 92.7 degrees ...  I was actually quite surprised.

  • NB200-10Z - Battery loose power

I have a Toshiba NB20010Z netbook for about 8 months and I always had the problem of the battery being loose. It's very frustrating, when I carry the machine in standby mode, I open it up, and it's turned off. I figured out, that if I pull a bit on the battery, the netbook turns off.
Have you met this problem before? What can I do with it? The pins for the Battery are naturaly locked down.
    Thanks,
    Bence

    HI Bence,
    > when I carry the machine in standby mode
Thats absolutely normally that the notebook consumes battery power in standby mode. In standby mode there will be stored an image of current settings and opened programs in your RAM and so the RAM consumes power.
So dont be worry about this.
By the way: Do you also loose battery power if you shut down the notebook for 24 hours?

    Hi,
I managed to recover my BIOS following the crisis recovery procedure and now my laptop boots!!!
At least up to the BIOS part... because now I face the "unknown password" problem, but anyway it's only half-death now. :)

  • Satellite A200-1UQ - Battery charger doesn't work

    Hi
I got A200 1UQ and my battery charger doesnt work.
    Btw Im from Turkiye.
Can I find the original one, if I cant can I use universal battery charger?
    Thanks

On the Toshiba website you can search for a compatible charger and the part number:
    http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com => Peripherals & Services => PC Options & Accessories => PC Options & Accessories Home Page
If you have the part number you can search with Google for this number. If you cant find something you should contact an authorized service provider. They can order all Toshiba parts.
I hope I could help you a little bit.

  • Satellite A200-1G2 battery only charges when Windows is shut down?

    Hi all,
I have a problem with my battery.
    1. Computer is turned off
    2. The battery is LOW
    3. I plug in the power cable and the LED is Orange and the battery is charging.
I know the battery is charging because when I turn on the computer after a while there is for example 44% charged.
    4. When I look now at the battery status there is "44% available, battery plugged in, not charging
    5. at this time the battery is not charging anymore and the power goes down 40%.....35%....32%....ex...
    6. When I now turn of the computer the LED is back orange and the battery is charging again.
    7. one more thing : when the battery is 100% charged with computer off and I then turn the computer on
the battery stays at 100% because the computer is running on power cable.
My conclusion is that the battery only charges when the computer is turned off ?
ones the battery is 100% the computer works on power cable.
if the battery is not charged for 100% and I turn on the computer, the computer is not working on power cable ( the power cable is plugged in ) and the battery power lowers again.
What can I do about that.
    HELP

    Hi mate,
First of all I must agree you that battery charging should also work if the notebook is turned on. I mean on my notebooks it works always properly and I have only founded this on the Toshiba website: http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/FAQ35007K001ZR01.htm
But to be honest I think there is a hardware problem with your notebook because there is no software option that must enable/disable to charge battery in Windows.
Another question: If you go into BIOS, will the battery be charged?
If not I would contact the nearest authorized service provider for help. They should check your notebook and maybe its a mainboard problem or something else. On the Toshiba website you can search for nearest ASP:
http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com > Support & Downloads > Find an authorized service provider
If you have more questions, please let us know and give us a feedback if the problem is solved. Its always interesting to read this and I think for other users too. ;)

  • Satellite A200-1CC - Battery does not charge

Hi, I am using a 2-year-old A200-1CC. Last week it stopped to inlight the blue Battery-LED. System would not start any more or would break down within 10 seconds. I bought a new battery, assuming that it had passed away. New battery - same problem. With battery in place the yellow-battery-LED appears for 5-10 seconds and than disappears again. System is only running properly without battery in place.
Any idea what the error might be?
    Regards

    Hi
I think the best way is you go to a local authorized service provider. I mean you have already tried another battery but it doesnt work.
The technicians can check your notebook and exchange parts if it necessary.
For me it sounds like a mainboard issue but the ASP will know that better.
    Good luck!

  • Satellite A200 PSAE6E won't power up after BSOD

    Hi. (sorry for my english)
Last night i got BSOD (driver_IRQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL). After memory dump i restart notebook but it won't power up.

    Already did that, same result
    > check if hdd spins up (maybe hdd died)
i think it's spins (at least trying to spin)
    > try to boot from a dvd/cd (install dvd of win)
can't do that, in BIOS first boot dev is HDD and i can't change it
i'll try to play with memory sticks if i find any screwdriver
