Satellite A200-1SC: What tool controls the fan?

Hello
I am looking for a program which I can control the fan speed. Because my fan turns on every 10sec. :( without cpu-load!
Or someone has an older Bios where the fan runs slower? My bios-version is 1.70

I also have the same issue with the A200-1sx. I have a friend that has the same notebook and it doesnt make half as much noise.
I updated the bios and nothing. i installed the program notebook hardware control and nothing.
I really don't want to send the laptop back with just 1 week of use...
any help?

Satellite A100: looking for software to control the fan speed

Hi,
I'm looking for software to control/read out the fan speed of my laptop, because Power Saver does not seem to do anything. It does not seem to matter if i set the 'Cooling Method' to 'Battery Optimized' or 'Maximum Performance', or even the fixed CPU processing speed. I've (de)installed the Common Module & Power Saver a couple of times to no avail.
Also SpeedFan & NHC do not work.

Sorry but I do not agree with your opinion about Power saver utility. Do you really believe that Toshiba create tool like this for nothing? Just for info: power saver utility is not available with Vista OS and on this forum you can find topics where people really missing this nice and useful utility.
Anyway it is well known that many tools you can find on the internet have no much influence on notebook cooling fan speed. To be honest, something like that can be very dangerous because most users want to have silent notebooks and overheating issues are totally underestimated.
Can you please be a little bit more specific about your problem? Is your notebook too loud for you or is battery running time to short? Why you are not satisfied with this tool?

Satellite A200-10X: How to partitioning the HDD

Hi there guys!
I have a pro with my satellite A200-10X, it has only one HDD volume, and i want to make them two... and everytime i use the product recovery CD, it formats the HDD... but i do not know how to partition the HDD two get two volume spaces...
and whats worse is that when i keep on doing that over and over it eats the HDD free space... so how can i partition the HDD and recover the 200GB space the computer originally have?

If you use delivered recovery media you have follow options:
1. the whole HDD capacity can be used for partition C
2. the HDD capacity can be split and you can create two partitions
When you use both options Vista will create 1,4 GB partition but this partition will not be visible when you use OS.
If you want to have two partitions (C and D) start recovery procedure and after choosing the language use SETUP button on the right side. In the middle of the screen occurs small window and there you can set how much capacity should be reserved for partition C. when the recovery procedure is finished and Vista starts open Computer Management.
On the left side choose Disk Management. After doing this on the left side you will see partition marked as black. This is second partition but still not visible. Click there with right mouse button and choose option to create logical drive. Follow the setup procedure.
After few steps this partition will be set as logical drive and after formatting it will be visible in Vista Explorer.

At what temp does the fan hit 100%? NX8800GT OC 512mb

I have the same problem: the card shows freaking squares during games randomly.
Setting up the speed manually to 50% solves the problem.
I touched the surface of the cooler before that: it gets really hot close to the DVI-Ports, that is where the issues are.
Anyways, that was reason enough for me to modify a BIOS.
The BIOS in the attachment is the newest by eVGA, which adjusts the fan speed. I just adjusted the clocks, and the vendor IDs and stuff, so it is shown as MSI card.
The BIOS Version is: 62.92.24.00.01 compared to MSI's 62.92.16.00.04!
Google for the flash procedure! You will void the warranty, and I am not responsible if you mess this up! I tested the BIOS and it solved my problems.
In the rar-file you'll find the original eVGA and MSI BIOS, NiBiTor and the MSI_new.rom, which is the modified file.
CHeck the BIOS and compare them, if you don't trust me, which I totally understand!

To enable fan control, the module parameter fan_control=1 must be given to thinkpad-acpi.
For example, in ArchLinux kernel 3.6.10, add the following to /etc/modules-load.d/thinkpad_acpi.conf: options thinkpad_acpi fan_control=1
Having done so, reboot and you can use the following commands to control fan speed:
# echo level 0 > /proc/acpi/ibm/fan (fan off)
# echo level 2 > /proc/acpi/ibm/fan (low speed)
# echo level 4 > /proc/acpi/ibm/fan (medium speed)
# echo level 7 > /proc/acpi/ibm/fan (maximum speed)
# echo level auto > /proc/acpi/ibm/fan (automatic - default)
# echo level disengaged > /proc/acpi/ibm/fan (disengaged)
If you receive a PERMISSION DENIED error you can use the following command syntax instead as a work-around:
# echo level 0 | sudo tee /proc/acpi/ibm/fan ##(fan off)
# echo level 2 | sudo tee /proc/acpi/ibm/fan ##(low speed)
# echo level 4 | sudo tee /proc/acpi/ibm/fan ##(medium speed)

Satellite A200 - crackling sound comes from the HDD

I have Satellite A200. When I start my notebook the crackling sound comes from the hard disc.
Does anyone know something about this?

In my opinion its nothing wrong with your HDD.
My HDD clicks everytime while accessing any data on the notebook and everything run ok since 3 years.
But this doesnt mean that there is no hardware problem with your HDD. Generally its not easy to say when an HDD wound starts to malfunction. My first HDD died after 6 years of usage. But the other HDD died after 1.5 years. This damage was covered by warranty.
Finally I would recommend backup your data always on an external HDD to prevent the data from damage.

Yeah my comp was just up to 73c before i put a book under it to prop it up and I heard no fan. Is this normal?

From reading these boards in the past week, i believe the fan begins to kick on at 70 degrees C
Correct me if i'm wrong of course.
I'm curious as to what temperatures are tooooo high, and warrant attention immediately

A200 Shutdowns. Is it the fan?

My a200 is experiencing shutdowns. It's not running particularly hot to the touch. I suspect the fan is malfunctioning because it is never on high like it used to be when new. In fact much of the time it is off. It seems to be on some sort of 10-15 second cycle where it remains off then comes on briefly on very low setting for 2-3 seconds.
The only time I hear it on high anymore is for like 1 second at the bootup on the bios screen. After that it's off or low despite heating shutdowns.
Can a fan replacement fix this I'm not sure if it's malfunctioning or if it's something else? I've tried battery power different adapters, linux, reinstalling windows, disabling various cards, speedFan, disabling the dual core in the bios, but it didn't do anything. Well the bios helped a bit but it still isn't stable.

intel core 2 duo mac book goes about the temperature of 54-60 C...hmm is that normal or should i use a third party application , just to minimized the heat?

I agree with lazypilot - its better for your notebook to keep it cool. Whether the fans spin at the default 1500rpm (Macbook 1st generation) or 1800rpm (C2D macbooks) - or 3000 rpm as set by the smcFanControl - makes really no difference in the life of the fan.
Many Macbook users use software that often stresses the CPU thus having the fans run at very high RPM's for extended periods of time - I doubt that a properly working fan would have any problems with this

I have a load noise from what sounds like the fan. MBP 15" 2009

My MBP 15" makes a grinding sound that will go away and then come back. If it is the fan, how difficult is this to have replaced?

13 screws. 10 for the bottom pan and 3 for the fan. Takes 3 screws longer than upgrading the RAM, with the advantage that the fan is not static-sensitive.
If one fan is bad, the other will follow shortly thereafter. Under warranty, Apple always changes both, you should follow suit. www.ifixit.com has the procedure and the parts you need.
For diagnosing if it IS the fan, use an Old Mechanic's Trick: get a short, thin metal rod. Place one end against the bony area right in front of your good ear. Place the other end against various spots on the Mac to determine the nature of the sound and its exact location. Use iFixIt's photos to see which component is the noisemaker: on the 15" MBP there are 4 candidates: 2 fans, one HDD and one optical drive. No other moving parts inside.

We need to adjust the HTTP port at SMICM.
Currently it is wrong.
We compare 2 systems by running RSPARAM but cannot tell
which parameter control the HTTP port.

Report as an Inquiry tool - Controlling the Group Tree

Users would like to be able to use this report as an inquiry tool... having trouble with displaying only relevant data (or at least highlighting the appropriate/relevant data on the left hand window pane - aka the Group Tree).
Perhaps the report needs to be reconfigured as a subreport?
Here is the issue, any hints or suggestions are welcome!

Transaction detail; totaling an amount field (logic works to suppress if total of all transactions is not equal to zero) -- Report is reporting on zero balance records by last name --
Selection expert;

Of the 10,000 records returned (unit id = blank), 200 records have a sum of zero in the amount fields (the sum of all transactions by last name) u2013 this all works fine
Is there a method to control what the users see on the group tree? What it is displaying on the left are the Group records (10,000) by last name who have a blank unit id in the master file... drilling down on one of the 200 transactions where the record meets both criteria works fine...but the other 8,800 records don't meet the detail/transaction criteria, so there is nothing to display and hence the drill down makes no sense when used as a query - The correct records are shown on the report - that is, if the users printed the report, they would get records which meet both criteria...
Can only records show on the left side when they meet both the group (id = blank) and detail (transactions summed = 0) selection criteria?
Or can they at least these that meet both criteria be highlighted in some way?

try using Group selection (select expert->group) along with record selection.

Satellite A200-195: What CD/DVD drive is compatible?

Hey Guys and gals,
I have had a look and asked Toshiba but no answer given so thought I would ask the experts here.
My DVD RW in my laptop TS L632D Has died and I need a new one.
So what one can I buy and fit without problems.
These drives are known to have issues with conflicts etc... so a different drive would be better.
So what do you guys and gals suggest.

We all here are Toshiba notebook users and as you probably dont know this is a user-to-user forum. :) so maybe not really experts ;)
To be honest its not known to me that this CD/DVD drive causes issue.
As you probably dont know every CD/DVD drive doesnt support all possible CDs or DVDs from different manufacturers.
Some CDs and DVDs are more compatible and some CDs or DVDs are not fully compatible.
However, the point is that you need a new CD/DVD drive.
I checked the A200 user manual (can be downloaded from the Toshiba page) and there is a list with some compatible drives.
Check the user manual page 6 and 7
You can also call the ASP in your country. The guys known what CD/DVD drives are compatible with your notebook!

I have a question how to I can change speed fan on my A500?
I mean with BIOS change power, I dont have advanced option on my BIOS so I cant change that... Any ideas?

Hi buddy,
You can change the speed fan in Windows Power Management. Therefore Toshiba Value Added Package must be installed but its already installed if you use the preinstalled Windows from Toshiba.
Open the Power Options: Start => Control Panel => Mobile PC => Power Options
Click on Change plan settings and in advanced settings you should see the option Cooling Method. There you can change between 2 different modes.
Check this!!!
