Satellite A200-1TW: loud cooling module due to the dust

Hey,
My fan gets louder by the day, and I think this is because there is a lot of dust inside my fan.
I have my laptop for about a year now, and live in an old house (= a lot of dust), so I was wondering: is there a tutorial somewhere on how to open it?
I can't find anything on this site, and on google neither.
The closest thing I found was this http://www.laptoprepair101.com/laptop/2006/02/04/toshiba-laptop-disassembly-manuals/, but unfortunately, it does not cover my laptop :(.
So I was wondering, does anyone have a tutorial on how to do this?
Or some experience themselves with it? I am mostly wondering whether I only have to take off the bottom, or the keyboard too?
Oh, and a last question: how about my warranty? If I open my laptop, do I loose it?

Hi
> Oh, and a last question: how about my warranty? If I open my laptop, do I loose it?
This is the most important reason why you should not disassemble your notebook!!!
Firstly you will lose the warranty secondly you could damage other parts!
Ive got other suggestion; why you dont clean the ventilators using a compressed air spray?
There are different compressed air sprays designed especially for such procedures!
This will help you to remove dust and debris from the cooling modules
I cleaned my fans many times using a compressed air this helped a lot of time

We have developed an ADF application using 11.1.2.1.0 version. We get the following error in production environment as about 3 to 4 times in a week as an error and as warning many times per day. The warning does not come to the screen or not shown to the user but the errors are shown to the user as a pop-up with 'java.lang.NullPointerException' message.
We are not able to replicate this issue in dev environment.

  • Most loud cooling module in Portege R500

I have Portege R500 and air fan in notebook is more loud.
I was trying more profiles of cooling (Battery optimized, Performance, battery performance, Cooling optimized) and with all profiles is air fan most loud. :(

    Hi
I think there is nothing wrong with your notebook or cooling modules.
The cooling module could be little bit louder due to the fast fan rotation.
But the fan has to rotate faster to ensure a good and properly cooling.
This is necessary and essential to ensure that your internal parts like CPU and GPU would not overheat!!!
PS: Did you check Dynamic CPU frequency mode settings in Toshiba HWSetup?
Please check if the frequency mode was set to dynamically switchable.
    I know you have changed the Power Saver settings too but lets me repeat it again;
    PCI Power Saver -> enable
    CPU control method -> auto
CPU processing speed -> set it to a lower level (left)
Cooling method -> lower level (left)

  • Satellite A200- Interfacing with Sky HD box, via the i.Link on my Notebook.

    Satellite A200-1VP
I'm trying to find away of recording to my Notebook's DVD drive, from my SKY HD boxs harddrive, So I can copy recorded programmes from the Sky harddrive on to DVD discs.
But do not have an HDMI interface port, only the AVI & VGA out, which is not a digital input, only the other signal output as we understand.
So I was thinking about using the i.Link (IEEE 1394a) port, as this was designed to send DVD camcorder date to the Notebook to be recorded ? wouldn't the DVD camcorder be sending a Digital signal and if this is so, shouldn't this work in that way ? is there a device or cable on the market that I could use to make the interface possible do this ?
I've looked at cable's, through out the internet but cant seem to find a HDMI to i.Link (IEEE 1394a) there are plenty of USB to i.Link (IEEE 1394a), but seem to be under the impression that the USB 2 can not deliver the date at a fast enough speed for this to work..
Any ideas would be of help thanks.

Why you don't speak with your local dealer and experts for this?
If you don't have adequate port on your notebook you must search for other external solution.
Check http://www.pinnaclesys.com/PublicSite/uk/Home/ and all products there.

  • Satellite A200-1TW using buttons (play, stop, pause) with other player

    Hey all,
I was wondering, is it possible to change the thing the buttons on the top of the keyboard? Because I use a nice media player now, embedded in the vista sidebar. However, the buttons like next song and pause/play do not work on this one. And there is no option in the play itself, so is there some other way?
    Thanks in advance :)

The Media keys send standard Keyboard Media Messages to your programs.
If your program (your nice media player) is not designed to receive these standard media key messages, the program wont recognize the media key messages.
You need to change the keyboard options in your nice media player. If you cannot find these options, you'll need to use another media player, such as WinAmp.

  • Satellite A200-1AE - Is it possible to upgrade the graphic card?

Could you please tell me what model of graphics card or chipset could be used to upgrade this laptop?
Will it be possible to with "CUDA"?
If can I change the processor to a higher, without cooling, to do other?

Graphic card upgrade on mobile PCs is not supported. You can do on desktops but not on notebooks.
Notebooks have specific construction and design, well adjusted cooling system and are also supported by tested and right display drivers.
With new and more powerful graphic card you can have overrating problem and hardware can be damaged.
In my opinion GPU upgrade is not a good idea.

  • Satellite A200 - CPU replacing

    Hi
I have an Satellite A200-130 with CoreDuo 1,86 CPU and I'm thinking about replacing it for Core2Duo 2,0 mainly for ot's little better performance and virtualization options.
    Anyone done that?

Generally the CPU replacement is not very easy on the notebooks.
Its trickier as the replacement on the desktop PCs.
First of all you should check if your chipset supports the Core2Duo 2Ghz CPUs.
Usually you could find such info on the Intel page.
Secondly you have to know if the BIOS would support the new Core2Duo CPU.
This is very important because the fan table which is stored in the BIOS controls the cooling modules. If the cooling modules dont work correctly then the notebook would overheat and this could damage the notebooks hardware.
Therefore such CPU upgrades are not advisable and mostly not possible

  • Fan whistle on Satellite A200-1ZB

    Hello,
could you tell me is it ok if my fan utters sound during its work? It is very quiet high sound but I hear it. It is like a whistle.
    Greetings

    Thank you for the answer.
My notebook model is Satellite A200-1ZB.
I agree that during the cooling procedure fan activity is always noticeable, but I'm not sure is it ok when fan "whistles" (very softly) .
Maybe I worry too much... but I'm not sure whether it works in the same way like few weeks ago, before guarantee service has installed a new hard disk (the first one had a fabric defect.)...

  • Satellite A200 - crackling sound comes from the HDD

    Hi
I have Satellite A200. When I start my notebook the crackling sound comes from the hard disc.
Does anyone know something about this?
    Thanks
    Vikas

In my opinion its nothing wrong with your HDD.
My HDD clicks everytime while accessing any data on the notebook and everything run ok since 3 years.
But this doesnt mean that there is no hardware problem with your HDD. Generally its not easy to say when an HDD wound starts to malfunction. My first HDD died after 6 years of usage. But the other HDD died after 1.5 years. This damage was covered by warranty.
Finally I would recommend backup your data always on an external HDD to prevent the data from damage.
    Bye

  • Satellite A200-19I is pretty loud - cooler is running permanently

    Hi,
I have since a week a Toshiba Notebook, the Satellite A200-19i. The Notebook is very loud in my opinion. One cooler is running permanently and the other one running sometimes. Or is this noisy thing not a cooler?
Please help me and sorry for my bad english. I am from Germany.
    Thanks,
    Arne

    Hello Arne
In the world of mobile computing it is not easy to design absolutely quite notebook especially if the hardware components are faster and more powerful. Heat is common problem by mobile computing and most important thing is hardware protection. I know that notebooks are sometimes very loud, especially if the cooling fan is dirty.
I have the same notebook series. It is Satellite A200-1CR. I use it for every day work and till now I am pretty satisfied. Vista runs well and using usual applications like Word, Excel, IE, Skype and WinDVD I didnt noticed loud running cooling fan. Maybe I should check it with CPU intensive applications.
Dear Arne I do not know how much experiences you have with notebooks but in my opinion you are too sensitive. You can check some other notebook models from different manufacturers but I am really skeptic you will find noiseless notebook.
    Bye and good luck!

  • Satellite A200-27R cannot start up

I have had my Satellite A200-27R for 2 years and 8 months and 2 weeks ago it crashed and turned itself off. At the time I was browsing on the internet and probably had open 3 or 4 webpages when it froze and I had a blue screen with white writing telling me something had gone wrong and my laptop was shutting down to protect itself.
I was unable to turn it back on for 24 hours but when it did come back on it seemd to be working normally again but I backed up all my files incase it happened again. About 10 hours later the same thing happened again: freeze; blue screen and then trying to reboot.
Since then, when I try to turn it back on it either gets stuck on the Toshiba "leading innovation" start up screen; or goes to a black screen and tells me there has been a media test failure and something to do with Realtek about 100x or until I take out the battery so it turns off; or asks me to start in safe mode and do system restore which I have done several times now but this has not helped.
I would be really greatful if anyone could tell me if they had any similar experiences and what they did and if there is anything I can do to fix it? Many thanks.

    Hi
BSOD can be the result of serious software problem or hardware issue.
If new OS installation didnt help you to solve this, I think that the hardware malfunction would cause the BSOD.
Usually the notebook shuts down automatically because of the higher temperature.
Higher temperature can affect other parts like RAM modules or motherboard.
So in many cases the BSOD appears due to memory issue.
I think you should firstly clean the cooling modules. You should remove the dust using a compressed air spray. In most cases this is the best procedure to get rid of the dust.
Then check the RAM modules. You can try to boot the notebook with one module only.
Then switch the modules to different slots in order to check the slots too.
Of course the HDD should be checked too. You can use a free software called Drive fitness Test. Its good, freeware software which can be downloaded from different pages.
If no of mentioned tips would help you, then I would recommend asking a Toshiba technician for help. They could use some special tools in order to get some results about the malfunction.

  • Require BIOS 1.8 for Satellite A200-13M (PSAE6) - Fan activity

    Hi y'all,
I recently updated my Satellite A200-13M (PSAE6) with bios 2.20-Win Vista.
I am experiencing a higher fan activity and as a consequence, a lot more noise!
The fan now activates at 47-48C wich is lower than previously (~50C)!
I would like to downgrade to the previous bios version which turned out to be smoother!
Could anyone help me get the 1.8-Win vista version.
What are the key changes from v1.8 to v2.2 except the more agressive fan control?
    Kind regards.
    Maxime

    Hi Maxime
In my opinion the cooling modules run stronger and faster to prevent the internal hardware i.e. GPU and CPU from overheating.
For me it looks like the fan table which is stored in the BIOS was updated and therefore the fans rotate faster due to the reason mentioned above
The Toshiba driver page offers only the newest BIOS updates the older BIOS versions are not available on the website and I think you needed to contact your local ASP to get an earlier BIOS.
Unfortunately, I dont see any other possibilities to get an older, different BISO version for you notebook series.

  • Question about Ram upgrade on a Satellite A200

    hi friends,
i`ve a Satellite A200-13O with 120GB HDD, 1.8GHz Intel Centrino Duo, 1GB ram but it has 2 512 chips installed.
if i upgrad 2 1 GB ram is there any chance of improvement in performance....??
and what if i upgrade to 2GB dual channel....??
    it has Windows Vista Ultimate...!!
    Thanks,
    Nagal

You mean you would use only one 1GB ram module?
Well, you would still have 1GB RAM but the dual channel cannot be used due to missing of second module.
So if you can, try to use exactly the same 2 modules to get the best memory performance.
The notebook supports two memory slots therefore you cannot do anything wrong insert 2 modules into the 2 slots to run the modules in dual channel

  • On my Satellite P100-347 cooling fan runs all the time

    Hi,
I think I might have a problem with fan on my Satellite P100-347. It seems to be continually working at all times and is a lot louder than when I purchased the computer. Initially it used to just switch off and on when required, I think this might now be wrong.
    Please help.

    Hi Beata
I agree with Sanremo suggestions; its not known to me how old your notebook is but from time to time its necessary to clean the cooling fans. The dust and debris inside the notebook could prevent the cooling modules from properly working!
The properly fresh air circulation is also very important. Be sure that there is enough free space around the notebook. Do not use the notebook on the knees or in the bed. In such case the notebook cannot be cooled in the right way and the high temperature can damage some parts like GPU on the board.
But if you think there is an serious hardware problem you should contact the authorized service provider in your country.
Good luck and greetings to Poland ;)
