Satellite A200-23P - Upgrade to Windows 7

Approximately 2 years ago I bought Toshiba notebook Satellite A200-23P with Windows Vista perinstalled. Now I want upgrade to Windows 7. I download Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor, it wrote me that:
1) More info from TOSHIBA TOSHIBA has a website that might give you more information about getting Windows 7 running on your PC. Visit the TOSHIBA website
(i haven't found any information on your web-site regarding updates issues)
And information about TOSHIBA software like: Disc Creator, DVD Player, Config Freeetc... that they "don't have compatibility information about this version of the program"
I want to know is it safe upgrade to Windows 7? Do i need to make some preparations or smth like that? Or is it better to just stay on Vista ).
Thx.

In my opinion there should not be problem to use Win7 on this notebook model. As Jeka already wrote most Vista drivers can be used with Win7, if some Win7 drivers are missing.
Win7 runs well and pretty stabile so I think it would be good decision to use Win7 on your A200.
What do you want to do exactly: upgrade preinstalled Vista to Win7 or to install clean Win7?
In my opinion you should use Microsoft Win7 installation disc for clean Win7 installation.

  • Satellite A200-23P - DVD-rom mechanic not working

I am sorry for my English in advance this topic! - Thanks
I have very big problem with my DVD writer (rom).
I bought SAT A200-23P three weeks ago.
The OS Win VISTA was installed. DVD-rom worked good.
If I installed Win XP to second partition on my HDD (before I make install disc with driver for sata disc in nlite) and installed all drivers and utilities for Toshiba notebook, I found that my DVD-rom does not respond while I press eject button.
DVD mechanic does not respond for eject in the XP and not even in BIOS!
Interesting is, DVD mechanic is detecting in BIOS, is detecting in XP, operating system XP votes - DVD mechanic working correctly - its fable.
However, if I installed XP on second partition, Win Vista does not load :(
I don't have a second chance for second selection (Vista and XP).
I have now XP only, even if Vista is on first partition - I didnt delete it.
Do you think the DVD-rom is HW or SW problem?
I think, seeing that DVD-rom not respond in BIOS - HW error.
But is very strange, if I install XP from DVD mechanic and close then is done, DVD-rom not working ... : (
If I open it manually and insert the disc, DVD not working (led diode not blink, just if I turn computer off, led blinked once).
    PLS help me somebody -
    THANKS!

    Hi Michal
Your issue is very strange I mean the CD/DVD drive issue
Fact is that the CD/DVD drives eject function should functions no matter what OS was installed on your notebook. It has nothing to do with your software on the HDD.
So I wonder why the eject button works with Vista and not with preinstalled XP OS ?:|
My only plausible explanation is that sometimes there is a loose connection between the notebook and the drive. At the other hand the issue could be related to the hardware problem too
As you see its not easy to say whats wrong exactly we can only speculate.
Now some details about your dual OS installation.
You cannot choose between the Windows XP and Vista because the Vista boot manager was overwritten during the Win XP installation.
This happened to me too. I have installed Win XP on my Satellite and was not able to start Vista.
The solution was easy; I have used another original Vista DVD (from my friend) and booted from this DVD. The Vista has renewed the boot manager and then I was able to boot the Vista.
Then I have downloaded the tool called Easy BCD.
This tool can change the settings the Vista boot manager. I have edited it and inserted a new Windwos XP OS entry.
    Thats it!

  • Satellite A300D-15B - Upgrade from Windows 7 32bit to 64bit?

I've added an extra 4GB of memory to my Satellite A300D-15B (PSAKCE). When I try to run the Windows 7 64bit upgrade it fails with a blue screen.
Is it possible to upgrade this model to 64 bit Windows 7?

    Hi ronchennells,
Theoretically it should be possible to upgrade to Windows 7 64bit You can do/install everything what you want but the important point is drivers
On the official Toshiba website there are no Windows 7 64bit drivers but you can try the Vista 64bit drivers. Normally they are compatible
Generally speaking its not necessary to upgrade to 4GB RAM or more for using Windows 7 64bit. You can also use the 64bit version with 2GB only.
What happens if you start the upgrade with original memory module only?

  • Satellite A200 (PSAE6) - Question about Windows 7

Has anyone tried installing Windows 7 32bit on aSatellite A200 PSAE6 and using toshiba flash cards and also toshiba value added package?
    Thank you

    Hello
No, I dont have tried Windows 7 and the Toshiba utilities on Satellite A200.
But why do you ask this? You can test it by yourself and then you can report us your experience.
I dont use Windows 7 at the moment because its not a final version and can cause some problems or maybe not compatible with some software applications.
With Vista and XP Im on the safely side.

  • Satellite A200 continuously restarts after windows update

    Hey all,
The model Satellite A200-1GB (PSAE6E) worked perfectly for two years now (with Vista 32bit).
Since running windows update yesterday and restarting, the laptop's been stuck in a loop of restarts, immediately restarting after the "POST" screen (Toshiba logo, etc) with a flash of blue screen.
Holding F8 to read the message, it says INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE (0x000007B) ...
Trying to restore to a point before the failure failed for unknown reason (gave an error).
Research in Google yielded a possible cause - maybe harddrive driver has changed to an incompatible type. There were some suggestions to turn off AHCI support in bios, but it doesn't have that option.
The bios was not updated since purchase (it's version 1.4), but I can't update it because it seems the only update provided by Toshiba requires windows.
Anybody has any clue how to fix the computer without reinstalling windows? Anything?
    Thanks in advance,
    Ofir

    Hi
I doubt it could be a hardware error (my personal opinion) but nothing is impossible you know
The point is that a BSOD can be caused by hardware error but also by an serious software issue
In my opinion something went wrong during the update
If you are not able to start the OS even using an safe mode then a new OS installation would be the last chance to get this issue sorted
I think you should try a new install in order to find out if this could be a hardware issue because there is a small rest of risk that this could be a hardware problem

    Hi All,
If I purchase Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium Upgrade Family Pack (3-User) (DVD-ROM), for my toshiba P305-S8820.
    1. Will I be able to perform a clean install by reformatting the disk?
    2. Is there a utility from Toshiba, that will go find all the drivers for Windows 7?
    3. Which drivers by Toshiba are required to be installed for Windows 7 to be successful?
    4. Is there a Bios update required for the machine to work on Windows 7?
    Thanks.
    Matt

Toshiba has a lot of useful info scattered across their sites. I suggest you read this [us.toshiba.com/windows7-upgrade/] about upgrade methods and follow the links off this [http://us.toshiba.com/windows7-upgrade/] to get specific information about required bios updates and the suitability of Toshiba Upgrade Assistant for Windows 7 software - +"The Toshiba Upgrade Assistant for Windows 7 is software that manages all of the details of the upgrade process from Windows Vista to Windows 7 on Toshiba laptops. The Toshiba Upgrade Assistant for Windows 7 automatically uninstalls driver and utility software that was preinstalled by Toshiba and needs to be removed from Windows Vista prior to upgrading to Windows 7, launches the Windows 7 installation Setup program, and then installs Toshiba software after the Windows 7 upgrade is completed. • Satellite A665 -127 Upgrading to Windows 8

    Hi!
I want, to upgrade my Toshiba Satellite A665-127 to Windows 8. Please tell me, are there any problems with drivers or front panel utility buttons like Volume up etc?

    Hi
Did you check the Toshiba EU driver page for Win 8 driver availability?
I did I chosen the Satellite A665 series and did not find any Win 8 drivers.
So you will have to collect the drivers at your own hand!
This might be little bit annoying. But even if some drivers are not available for A665, you will be able to use Win 8

  • Satellite A200-1FL: Bluetooth installation issue on Win 7

    Hi everyone,
I have a Toshiba Satellite A200 1FL (PSAE6E) with Windows Vista and I've just installed Windows 7 32 bits (not update nor upgrade).
The problem is that when I try to install bluetooth stack, it installs everything ok but the driver.
    I picked version 7.10.12 for Windows 7 32 bits from http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/bluetooth/?page=download.
The driver installation window shows up and the progress bar doesn't move.
I've waited for a long time and nothing, no response, so I have to cancel.
Nevertheless the software was installed and when I try to start Bluetooth config or any other tool, the same happens: The driver installation window shows up and nothing.
Also I tried to follow order install instructions from toshiba download drivers page guessing which drivers match each options.
May anyone know why is this happening?
Am I missing something or is there any known issue with the Bluetooth driver in Windows 7?
    Thanks in advance,
    Jorge

The situation happens to me even when the wifi is on. The default SO of my laptop was Windows Vista. I formatted everything but the recovering partition and installed Windows 7. Almost all the drivers and software available at the Toshiba drivers page for Windows 7 seem to work fine. Even some of the drivers mented to Windows Vista
Anyone has any other idea? I discarded hardware because the wifi works fine and the driver installer is capable of detecting when the device is on or off.

  • Slow start - Satellite A200-1KZ PSAE3

    Hi,
I have a Satellite A200-1KZ PSAE3 running Windows Vista Home Premium.
I have a clean install, so I have no third-apps running in my energy system.
    I have the SKAA140a.rom (v 1.40).
    I have installed the Mobile Intel(R) 965 Express Chipset Family (GM965) v1.5.6
I have installed the Realtek High Definition Audio Driver vVista_R172a.zip
The system take more than 2 minutes to start, any ideas?
    Any idea why?
    Thanks in advance!

I want to add that the start process is like this:
BIOS screen (where the Intel logo appears)
    Progress bar, pass 7,5 times.
Windows Vista Logo, the whole song
"Starting", is less than a second
Then my desktop, where the "Live Messenger" appears first
Then Power, Network and Sound control
But, the Network appears as "Not connected" (red cross) until the NOD32 is on.
I've tried uninstalling the NOD32 and is the same thing.
NOD32 doesn't seems to be the problem.
Could be something about the network card?
My computer uses a Realtek card with the standard Windows Vista drivers. The name of the card is "NIC de Fast Ethernet PCI-E de la familia Realtek RTL8101 (NDIS 6.0)".
Oh, I can add that if for example I install something that need a restart and have to do something before the Desktop appears and takes 20 seconds for example, the system start just right away. No delay.
    Ideas?
    TIA!

I have Satellite A200, I have reinstall Windows but now if I hold the Fn key the icons doesnt show up on desktop, FN keys are working fine.
I just want to see the icon as well I have try to install every Toshiba Utility none worked.

    Hi!
Do you use Windows XP or Vista?
For Vista you must install the Value Added Package.
For XP you must install the Hotkey Utility.
Both you can find on the Toshiba website: http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com => Support & Downloads => Download Drivers
If you have more questions, please let us know.

  • Satellite A200-1M8 - Can I get a Windows 7 upgrade disk?

    Hey there, regarding Windows 7.
I have purchased my laptop model which is Toshiba Satellite A200-1M8 in year 2007.
    I want to know first:
If i'm able to upgrade it for free or for money according to Windows Vista to Windows 7 upgrade thing you offer, if yes to which Version of windows 7 it will be upgraded (Home, Professional, etc..)
If not, can I order Toshiba to make a Recovery DVD for Windows 7 specially for my laptop version and if yes, to which version of Windows 7 will toshiba give me?
    Regards.

    Hi
All informations that you want to know you can find on the Windows 7 upgrade page:
    http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com > Windows 7 Learn More
As you can see a free upgrade is only possible on notebooks purchased from June 26, 2009 to January 31, 2010.
Furthermore your model isnt Windows 7 supported. There is only a limited driver support for a clean Windows 7 installation and so you cant get a Windows 7 disk from Toshiba.
But all these informations are already on the Toshiba page ;)

  • 4GB memory upgrade on Satellite A200-23W

    Hi,
I asked toshiba service here in greece about upgrading the memory that my A200 23W has and they told me to buy a 2gb memory module (I saw than that there was no need for 2 as there was only one module on it but anyway...).
I did so and installed the new memory but since that in System information i can only see this:
OS Name Microsoft® Windows Vista Home Premium
    Version 6.0.6001 Service Pack 1 Build 6001
    Other OS Description Not Available
    OS Manufacturer Microsoft Corporation
    System Name COMSPI08-PC

Hardware Abstraction Layer Version = "6.0.6001.18000"
    User Name ------------------
    Time Zone GTB Daylight Time
Installed Physical Memory (RAM) 4,00 GB
    Total Physical Memory 3,00 GB
    Available Physical Memory 2,01 GB
    Total Virtual Memory 6,19 GB
    Available Virtual Memory 5,12 GB
    Page File Space 3,29 GB
So my question is WHY AVAILABLE PHYSICAL MEMORY IS STILL 2.01 GB? when i have installed 4GB and the system can see that only in theory.

There is nothing wrong with your system. As you already posted, windows shows your total amount of 4GB physical memory and the total physical memory of 3GB.
The part with the available memory is a windows thing and shows how much memory is left for other programs, because windows needs some of it your its own.
So, if you want to use the full amount of your 4GB you will have to use a 64bit version of Vista, because 32bit versions are limited to a maximum size of 3,29GB as your page file space already indicates.
Hope this cleared some things now.

  • Question about Ram upgrade on a Satellite A200

    hi friends,
i`ve a Satellite A200-13O with 120GB HDD, 1.8GHz Intel Centrino Duo, 1GB ram but it has 2 512 chips installed.
if i upgrad 2 1 GB ram is there any chance of improvement in performance....??
and what if i upgrade to 2GB dual channel....??
    it has Windows Vista Ultimate...!!
    Thanks,
    Nagal

You mean you would use only one 1GB ram module?
Well, you would still have 1GB RAM but the dual channel cannot be used due to missing of second module.
So if you can, try to use exactly the same 2 modules to get the best memory performance.
The notebook supports two memory slots therefore you cannot do anything wrong insert 2 modules into the 2 slots to run the modules in dual channel

  • Some Microsoft Windows Update cannot be insatlled - Satellite A200-W00

    Hi,
I Have been having a problem with updates on my Toshiba Satellite A200-W00 Machine. I have two particular updates that continuously fail.
I have been in contact with a Microsoft personnel who has been sending me step by step trouble shooting to try but I've had no luck. These updates are:
*Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 7 in Windows Vista (KB956390)*
*Cumulative Update for Media Center for Windows Vista (KB955519)*
*Security Update for Windows Vista (KB953155)*
This was one of his emails
From the problem description, I understand that several updates failed to be installed, and you have tried some troubleshooting suggestions, but the issue still persists. If there has been any misunderstanding, please let me know.
Given this situation, the issue may occur if the related system files are corrupted. In order to continue troubleshooting it, please first temporarily uninstall the security programs, and test the update again. If still failed, please take your time and try the following steps to repair the system.
    In-place upgrade
    ==========
Though this operation will not remove or modify the installed programs and files, I still suggest that we backup the important files before doing this. In addition, we may have to reinstall the device drivers after this operation. Thank you for your understanding.
    1. Start the computer and access Windows Vista.
    2. Insert the Windows Vista DVD in the computer's DVD drive.
    3. Use one of the following procedures, as appropriate:
If Windows automatically detects the DVD, the Install now screen appears. Click Install now.
If Windows does not automatically detect the DVD, follow these steps:
    a. Click Start, click Run, type Drive:\setup.exe, and then click OK.
Note: Drive is the drive letter of the computer's DVD drive.
    b. Click Install now.
    4. When you reach the Which type of installation to you want screen, click Upgrade to upgrade the system files of Windows Vista.
After it completes, please try to update again.
Please try the above steps and let me know the results at your earliest convenience. If there are any questions or concerns, feel free to contact me.
I look forward to your reply.
    Best Regards,
    Bill
However Vista was preinstalled on my laptop and obviously I don't have the disc. Anyone know where I can get hold of it or have the same problem with similar updates. I've tried disabling my antivirus, firewalls, antispyware disk checks, clean ups etc and nothing.
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks

In my opinion updates issue have nothing to do with notebook manufacturer and I also think that Microsoft is the right address where you must ask for help.
About missing recovery DVD there are no many options for you. If you don't have it you can order new copy for you. The right address is https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx
    Bye and good luck!
