Satellite A200 23W shuts down seconds after pressing power button

Hi all :)
I have just bought a Toshiba Satellite A200 23W portable computer some hours ago.
I turn it on and i let it finish all the Vista installation.
After finishing Vista installation it asket to resturn the laptop and from that moment the laptop is "dead".
After pressing Restart computer (from Vista) the computer shut down with no problem but it never restarted!!!
After waiting some minutes i tryed to start it over by pressing the power button.
Now when i press the power button i can hear the HDD working and most of the time before i can see something on screen the laptop shuts down!!
Now i notice that both the battery indicator AND the DC IN indicator are flushing and stopping flash at moments.
From reading the manual i would assume that the DC IN indicator should not flash at all though.
I have tryed to unistall the battery and try to boot the laptop but in that case i can not even listen the HDD starting up!!!
I have try to unplag and replag the power cable (in the wall socket as well as in laptop) but again no result.
Any ideas of what has happened?
Many Thanks

I do not know what is wrong there and, in my opinion, it should not be so important for you. Contact your dealer as soon as possible and talk with him. Explain the situation. Maybe you will get new notebook. If not please contact nearest authorized service provider and let them check your notebook.
The notebook is brand new and it must work. Please do not wait too long.

  • Satellite A60 Shuts Down immediately after pressing power button

My A60 shuts down after 2-3 seconds when I press the power button for openning the laptop. After pressing the power button, all lights come on, but before anything appears on the screen, computer cuts off the power. Fun, DVD and harddisk sound working. At least, sounds are coming from the these hardwares. Also from the buttom of the laptop, I can see the fan is working.
This problems started nowhere. Yesderday, I closed my laptop properly and carry my laptop to my friends. When I tried to open my laptop, this problem occured and I could not open it yet.
I tried any combination of using power supply and battery for power. Non of them is working.
Is there any one had the same problem or have any diagonistics for this problem.
    Thanks,
    Emrah

    @ Etjuh
Dont think its the same problem!
Your problem sounds more like overheating and the cooling modules cleaning could helps to prevent the notebook form overheating and from automatically shut downs.
The vacuum cleaner is a useful tool ;) but be careful if you dont know how to do it please contact an technician!

  • HP DV9700 not booting. Shuts down seconds after pushing power button.

My  HP Pavilion DV9700, which runs Vista,  stopped working yesterday.  I never makes it to the Windows Startup screen.  Posts messages to screen about which Function Key to press for Setup, Startup Check, etc..   then shuts down.
This started a day ago . I do not believe that windows is the issue.
I tried doing the hard restart..  blew compressed air in the power supply area..  not change.
Not sure what to try next.
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

    Hey,
You can try restoring the BIOS. The "magical key's" are in the document.
Also, just checking (as not mentioned) that you were able to test with a different AC adapter (without battery).

  • Macbook pro wont shut down without holding the power button nor cycle for updates to restart.

macbook pro wont shut down without holding the power button nor cycle for updates to restart

Sorry I said sorta wrong. I can shut down and I can update to the point of restart but it just sat for 45 minutes after an update. It goes through the update and to restart then the bars chase each other in a circle and it never restarts. So I hit the power button and go through normal reboot but loosing the update in the process. It does not matter how long I wait for a natural reboot after an update or click to restart it will chase the little bar in circles all day literally and never reboot.

  • MacBook shuts down immediately both when power button is pressed and when lid is closed

    Hey there,
The mentioned issues have happened to me for a couple of years or so. Specifically, when I press the power button it shuts down right away along with a click. Same happens when it sleeps; the light starts glowing and before a full seconds passes, I hear the same click and it shuts down. It started around the same time my battery died out of nowhere so I always attributed it to that. Now I got a new battery and it's still there. I tried resetting the SMC with both methods. The built-in keyboard had coffee spilled on it years ago so it doesn't really work, but I tried the key combination anyway. It didn't fix the problem, so I tried unplugging the battery and holding the power button. That didn't work either. What could be causing this issue?
    Thank you.

Your problem is way more complex, here's my standard answer:
"Whenever a liquid spill occurs the first thing that has to happen is the laptop should be shut down immediately. All power must be removed as soon as possible. It is especially important that the battery be disconnected and removed.
All affected parts must be removed from the laptop. No attempt should be made to start/restart the computer since this could potentially damage the logic board beyond all repair.
Then all affected parts would be washed in deionized water and blown dry with compressed air. (In a water spill the deionized water is probably not as critical. Depends on the mineral content of the water.) and blown dry with compressed air. This is especially true of the large chips on the logic board. Water can wick under them and cause havoc.
The logic board should be placed in a drying/dehumidifing oven for at least two days. Longer depending on the spill.
The keyboard is a separate matter."
Also red wine would be one of the worst things you could spill on your computer.

  • Satellite A200-AH3 shut down instead of standby when I close the lid

    Hi,
I have a Notebook Satellite A200-AH3. When I bought it Windows Vista was preinstalled (I still have de recovery disc). When I closed the lid the system standby (I mean the monitor turn off as the HD, the cooling fan and everything else). The On/Off light on the laptop turned to a blinking orange light.
Then I opened the lid and Windows prompted me the logon screen. This process only happened when the laptop run on the battery, not when it was plugged. Everything was fine like that.
But I formated the HD to install WIndows XP which I bought because Windows vista seem to be too heavy for my laptop. So I installed Windows XP and all the driver and software found on the Toshiba website. Now when I close the lid, Windows shutdown very rapidly (about5-6 seconds). However it is a real shut down. When I reopen the lid nothing happen.
Then I press the power button and Windows start normally (no screen saying that windows close annormally and no Safe-Mode starting option). Even if I change the setting in the Control Panel/Power Option or in the Toshiba Power Saver Utility and I set them to Standby, it always perform a shut down.
    How do I restablish that?

What Lars tries to say is that your notebook goes into stand by mode as it should the issue could be that the display does not wake up from stand by when you open the lid.
On the Toshiba European driver page there are different A200 series but I didnt find your series.
Looks like this notebook model is not a European series but Toshiba Canadian notebook.
So you would have to visit the Toshiba Canadian page to get the right BIOS and drivers.
As Im not mistaken there should be also an Toshiba Power saver for Win XP.
    Please configure it properly.
In Setup action (power saver tab) you can set the setting what should happen when you close the lid.

  • HP 630 shuts down seconds after power on

    HP 630, i3 processor, OS WIN7
Hello. I hope someone can hel me with this problem.
After pressing the power button the screen comes on and I can see the black screen with the HP logo in the middle and in the lower left corner ist says "Press the ESC key for startup menu". The boot does not go past this screen ans the notebook shuts down after 30 seconds.
What I have tried so far:
Removed HDD and RAM and reinserted them again and tried to boot.
Results: The same, shutdown after 30 sec.
Removed battery and power plug and pressed the power button for 30 sec. Then I connected the power (only) and tried to boot again.
    Results: The same.
    Tried to boot without HDD.
Results: Error message "Boot device not found..." and shutdown after 30 sec.
Booted into bios and set the defaults. I have to be quick because I have only 30 sec for making changes before it shut down again.
    Results: The same.
Tried to boot from live flash disk drive with linux mint.
Results: The flash drive is detected and I see the same black screen with the HP logo. It seems to me that the system freezes at this point bacause flash drive led stays on and I am unable to enter the boot menu anymore by pressing ESC key. After 30 sec.shutdown.
Any help is very apreciated. Thank you.

    Hello @Mainzer ,
Thanks for posting on the HP Forums!
I understand you are experiencing an issue with your notebook. However, since this is a commercial notebook, you should post your issue on the notebook board of the HP Enterprise Forums for a better answer.
    Have a wonderful day!

  • Satellite M100-233: shuts down just after the XP logo

    Hi,
I have a Satellite M100-233 with XP Home Edition SP3 (in Portuguese)
When connected to the mains and the battery is not totally charged, sometimes the amber light does not light up.
Checking the voltmeter application when this happens tells me that the battery is on, the source of energy is the mains, but the battery is discharging.
As I keep using the laptop, the amount of battery charged is reported as progressively less, until it goes to zero, and then the laptop just turns off, as if it was not connected to the mains.
Even if I start with the battery charged at 100%, after a couple of hours (sometimes more, sometimes less) the same thing happens.
At an authorized dealer, they told me that probably it was a short circuited battery.
*I don't buy that:* if it take the battery off the laptop and turn it on:
    - Most of the times it shuts itself down just after the XP logo.
    - It appears this happens more often when the battery was not totally charged the last time I used it (Strange! Am I imagining this?)
    - This happens also sometimes after I've been using the laptop for sometime
The only unusual bios message I get is "No TPM or TPM has problem". I guess this has to do with cryptographic protection, so I imagine it has nothing to do with this issue.
About two years ago there was a problem with the battery (it stopped from being recognized as present by the laptop) which was repaired under the warranty: they told me they had replaced the motherboard then. However, at that time I could keep working normally without the battery, which is not the case now.
I would be grateful for any hints. The most annoying thing is that this problem follows a irregular pattern, and the diagnostic the authorized dealer gave me looks hard to believe. As I use my laptop to collect data for research abroad, it is quite a risk for me to use it if I can't be sure when it will shut itself down of its own will.

    Hi
To be honest I doubt that someone here in the forum would be able to provide an exactly answer to this issue
I think its nearly impossible to say whats wrong without running any hardware checks.
But for me it sounds like an motherboard issue possibly its power supply electronic issue which is a part of the motherboard.
What to say maybe you need new motherboard but the new mobo is an expensive part and in my opinion you should firstly check if its worth to replace the motherboard or to purchase an second hand notebook for the same cash.

  • My Acrobat 8.1.3 shuts down seconds after opening any document or other activity.

I have a Dell XPS 8100 operating Windows 7 Home Premium. I haven't used the Acrobat for a while so am not sure when the problem began. But today, when I tried opening several documents (all, or one at a time), Acrobat would shut down within seconds. The same happens when I select any tab after opening Acrobat. I went through the repair both with and without the disc, rebooting each time, but the problem is still there. Suggestions?

That is really strange and not an expected behavior. Other than the reinstall, I don't really have other suggestions (wish I did). Sometimes when this kind of thing occurs, there is another product that is causing an issue. If you are runnin your AA8 on a 64-bit machine, that may be the issue. I have only heard of success 2 times for that combination, and I am not sure I believe the report in full.
If you decide to do the Reinstall, then the process is as follows: deactivate, uninstall, remove the Acrobat folder (if any of it is left), run the cleaner http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/acrobatcleaner.html, reboot, install, activate, update. Typically all of the updates can be done and then reboot, rather than all the extra reboots.

  • IDVD shuts down when I press media button and click audio movies or photos

    Hi guys - please help!
My iDVD shuts down immediately when I click the media button and then either photos, movies or audio - why is this and how can I rectify??

Sometimes when an application is not working properly its preference files have become corrupted. It is nothing that you cause, it is just the nature of preference files.
Close iDVD. Go to your Home(YourUserName)/Library/Preferences/com.apple.idvd.plist
Drag this plist file to the trash. Don't worry, iDVD will create a new fresh one when you reopen it. Reopen iDVD ad see if it works.
Post back if this does not help.

  • HT1338 Mac needs to be shut down by holding the power button.

I got a brand new macbook pro today. Within 3 hours of use I got an error saying I needed  to restart my computer. I did so, then it happened again 10 minutes later. I shut down my mac and its been off ever since. I googled this and its called a kernel error. What do I do? The closest apple store is 1.5 hours away.

    Hey,
By loading into Safe Mode; (taken from HT1564)
It forces a directory check of the startup volume. You may see a progress bar on the screen during this check, and the computer may take longer than usual to complete its startup.
It loads only required kernel extensions (some of the items in /System/Library/Extensions).
In Mac OS X v10.3.9 or earlier, Safe Mode runs only Apple-installed startup items (such items may be installed either in /Library/StartupItems or in /System/Library/StartupItems; these are different than user-selected account login items).
It disables all fonts other than those in /System/Library/Fonts (Mac OS X v10.4 or later).
It moves to the Trash all font caches normally stored in /Library/Caches/com.apple.ATS/(uid)/ , where (uid) is a user ID number such as 501 (Mac OS X v10.4 or later).
It disables all startup items and login items (Mac OS X v10.4 or later).
Mac OS X v10.5.6 or later: A Safe Boot deletes the dynamic loader shared cache at (/var/db/dyld/). A cache with issues may cause a blue screen on startup, particularly after a Software Update. Restarting normally recreates this cache.
Taken together, these changes can help resolve software or directory issues that may exist on the startup volume.

  • Satellite P200-143 shut down issues

When I shut down my computer, while on the mains, the computer shuts down normally but a minute later, automatically restarts.
However, on battery it shuts down as it should.
I've checked my power settings, and they are all fine.
So I was wondering if anyone knew what I could do.
I have been shutting down by keeping the power button pressed, as it seems to be the only way.

I have a problem with my Satellite P200-144. Every time I plug it into the mains, it lasts about twenty minutes, and then cuts out. The time period is always the same, and it only ever happens when plugged into the mains, it will quite happily run on the battery until it runs dry.

  • Laptop does not shut down completely after upgrading to Windows 10!!

Ever since I installed Windows 10 64-bit, the PC does not shut down completely. The screen gets blank but the power button is still lit up...Have to manually shut down by holding the power button... Same issue anyone? Any solution or workaround? @HP??

I also have this problem, and have resorted to leaving the computer in Sleep mode when not in use. This is OK as a temporary fix, but is not a permanent solution. This is clearly a problem with HP computers and I would hope HP are aware of the need for urgent action to resolve the problem. I also hope that Microsoft gives them full cooperation. HP and Microsoft, are you listening?

  • Toshiba Satellite A300-20T shuts down after 5 seconds!!

my laptop satellite A300-20T shuts down after 5 seconds of booting , i dont know why ?? and i searched for support in the website and didn't find it in the model list, also i don't know why ???!!
i want to know why it shuts down , and how can i communicate with support

Yours would not appear to be a US model. We need the Part Number for your laptop, like PSAG8U-05K02C. You can find this on the Toshiba label on the bottom of your laptop. As well, what country was it originally purchased in. In addition, what is your operating system version, like Windows Vista 32bit?
