Satellite A200 - black screen after standby/hibernate

Hi,
I just bought my computer 1 week ago. It??s a notebook A200 series and every time I tried to suspend/hibernate it, it doesn't resume back or wake up. The power light is still on. The fan is still on. Even the num pad lock responds.
The Screen is black and not responding. I can only restart the computer every time this happens. I tried to search the web for this problem and I found other people with the same problem.
I only bought my laptop for a week, can??t believe this is happening.
Please provide me with a solution.
Edited by: ADMIN

I contacted toshiba around Janurary. I had the same problem on my Satellite A215-S7428. I dont remember what they told me to do. It envolved taking ount the battery, going to some window and changint the power settings for the moniter, like how much power does the moniter use on battery and when it is plugged in. They were set very low, around 20% and I had to raise them to 100%. That seemed to help. But now it is starting again. I happens when the screen is closed and the computer sleeps. When I open the screen, it is black. I used to have to restart my laptop just so I could it, after I contacted the support and changed the power stuff, it came right up in around 10 sec. Now it takes around 30secs. So does anyone know how to access the power setting window i am taliking about?

  • Satellite M70 - Black screen after recovery installation

So far what I have done is put in the Product Recovery DVD-ROM. Then when restarting my computer I was prompted to restore my computer to the factory defaults and said. After it went through that process it told me to remove the disc so I did. Now all it does is reach a black screen after the Toshiba screen that gives me the options to f2 for setup and f12 for options.
I do not know what to do now to make my laptop work again. Please help.

Satellite M70 is old notebook model and I would like to know do you use recovery disc for the first time. I had Satellite M70-159 long time ago and have installed recovery image many times.
Which installations mode you have used: standard mode or expert mode?
    Try to install it again.
As Xardas wrote try to obtain Microsoft installation disc and check if everything works well.

  • Satellite A200 - Black Screen Of Death

    Hi All,
I have a Satellite A200 model PSAFCA- 01K00J. This model I bought from Harvey Norman in Australia but I can find no listing on the Toshiba web site as either current or discontinued. That sux as I am looking to get any bios updates available to try and rectify a recent black screen issue.
The first time this occured I was able to re-start after removing the battery/disconnect power several times before it came good. The next day after a re-start attempt to install anti-virus updates same problem... disconnected power, removed battery, removed ram (replacing ram one then the other to check for faulty ram cards) and hard drive then bled off residual power with start button. Went through this proccess multiple times before eventually successfull. I have had to go through this a couple of times since after automatic re-starts for windows updates, etc. I have sourced the procedure for manually resetting the bios by jumping it but that is something I want to avoid doing until I have exhausted all other options.
    Toshiba Satellite A200
    Model- PSAFCA- 01K00J
    O/S- Vista
Hard Drive- 160GB with 50GB free space remaining.
System 32 with duo core proccesors.(intel)
    Bios Version/Date- phoenix technology's ltd 5.20, 25/10/2007
    SMBIOS Version- 2.4
Any idea's on sourcing the latest correct bios or any other input would be gratefully appreciated... :)

Hi Timox, when I turn on at the start button the lap top displays (lights up) the satellite logo and the small display at the bottom front (power on/battery connected and charging displays) and you can hear the extraction fan running as normal but there is just a black screen. I have tried to set up an external monitor... the only time that worked was when I was pressing f8 to go for a system repair/restore but the restore made no difference. Other than that the external monitor shows the same black screen as the lap top.
Given that the bios controls the start up I would have assumed that would be the logical place to look (haven't tried the f2/escape deal yet) so curious as to whats leading you away from the bios ?
I am trying to get to the bottom of this by process of elimination so if you have any other tricks I can try first I would love to hear them... thanks in advance :)
Found a link for an old review of this model... Yet Toshiba doesn't list it for updates (grumble)

  • Satellite A200 - black screen when reboot

I have Satelitte A 200 and I have the problem that when you reboot I should have only a black screen and goes no further. But I do not beep. Only available in one place. I have tried everything but nothing brings order. I wanted to install Xp but it does not work. Help.

    Hi
You mean you dont see anything on the screen while booting? Not even the Toshiba splash screen?
Are you able access the BIOS?
    Please check this.
You could also check this; remove battery and disconnect the AC adaptor. Then wait a little bit (1 hour) and after this short period of time connect both parts again.
    Then try to boot up.

  • Re: Satellite L40 - Black screen after updating BIOS

    Hi everyone,
I have exactly the same problem as reported here:
    http://forums.computers.toshiba-euro...threadID=35156
My portable is a Satellite L40-150 (Model PSL48E) It came with Vista and BIOS version 1.60
I updated the BIOS to version 5.50, because I wanted to install Windows XP. The BIOS update process went fine and the computer automatically restarted. Upon restarting, I entered the BIOS (pressing F2 key). I pressed F9 to load default settings and exited the BIOS, saving the changes.
The laptop restarted and the screen is now completely blank. Nothing appears in it.
I tried removing and then reinserting the RAM modules, but it didn't help.
So, I guess the only option is to return the laptop to a service center?
Why is Toshiba doing this? Are they doing this on purpose or what?
    Regards.

I meant why is Toshiba releasing a BIOS upgrade that can render your laptop useless? (I've tried all the recovery methods they mention on their web, including turning on the laptop while pressing F12, but none of them work)
I've routinely upgraded the BIOS on all the computers I've owned through the years, and I've always reset the BIOS to its default settings right after upgrading. It's a procedure recommended by all manufacturers.
They all recommend to restore BIOS defaults after an upgrade because sometimes there can be some "leftover" configuration remaining from the previous BIOS version.
I upgraded the BIOS prior to installing Windows XP because it's the logical thing to do. Toshiba offers two different BIOS versions for my laptop, and the clearly state that one of them is compatible ONLY with Windows Vista, and the other one is compatible ONLY with Windows XP.
Could you tell me why should I install Windows XP on a laptop that has a BIOS designed for Vista? Common sense dictates that you should first upgrade the BIOS, and then install Windows XP.
I've contacted Toshiba's technical support and they will replace the laptop free of charge, because it's still under warranty.
I admit I'm satisfied with their customer care services, but I'm surely disappointed by their Quality Control. It has failed miserably in this BIOS release.
    Regards.

  • Satellite L500 - black screen after manual or auto restart

    Hi everyone,
This has frustrated me for three weeks but I have only just realised it is associated with restart either manual or software requested.
My 6 week old L500 laptop refuses to do other than display lights for indiactors on front - no light on keyboard, no screen, fan running but no disk activity I can hear.
I have somehow managed to break through on three occasions by forcing shut down using the power on/off hold down, removing battery waiting and then starting up.
Earlier today it decided to restart under this method and I was able to quickly jump in and dump my Libraries and outlook.pst to an external hard drive cause my business runs off it.
Anyone know a solution to this problem?
This is the first Toshiba I have ever owned and it's really frustrating to have to fire up this 4 year old Acer to find a solution to my problem.
Maybe the problem is Windows 7 but can't find my way through that place to an answer.
    Anyone, please???

    Hi
You mean the L500 does not boot anymore?
The workaround removing the battery and ac adaptor doesnt help anymore?
Hmm usually this should not happen sometimes the notebook could hang somewhere during the stand by or hibernation and the mentioned workaround could be a option to wake up the unit
Its hard to say whats going wrong here possibly its hardware related issue
So maybe it would be the best get in contact with an local ASP the warranty should be valid and I think everything should be done for free

  • Does anyone get a black screen after dismissing the balance on a paygo phone

I get a blank, black, screen after dismissing the balance on my paygo 3GS iphone.  To get rid of it I put the phone into standby and then wake it up!

    From your logfile
[787100.353] (EE) Failed to load /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/i740_drv.so: /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/i740_drv.so: undefined symbol: I740_Sync
Corruption seems the correct assumption here; I'd boot using a rescue disc; then mount your actual system and reinstall all packages. After chrooting, that should be something like pacman -Sf `pacman -Qqet`

  • Lenovo G560 - Issue with won't boot and black screen after HDD upgrade

Lenovo G560 - Issue with won't boot and black screen after HDD upgrade.
What happen: My laptop was working fine, no blue screen issue, no funny business at all. I bought a new SSD Intel 120 GB and thought it would be a good idea to replace the HDD. I shutdown and disconnected the power adapter, waited a couple of minutes and removed the battery. I opened up the back case and replaced the HDD. And put all the screws back and put the battery back in.
Problem: The very first time I turned the power on, nothing happens besides a black screen. I pressed the dvd drive it works and opens up and closes. I waited for about 30 mins and still has blac screen. When I mean black screen, no bios menu, no logo, just a black screen with the fan sound on.
    I have tried these:
    1. Unplugged everything - battery, adapter, and pressed the power on button for about 60 seconds, nothing, the laptop turns on with the LED display on for both on and battery LED's. But nothing but black screen, no sound of windows loading just the fan and black screen.
    2. I tried putting back my old 2.5" and nothing but black screen.
    Thoughts and suggestions?

  • [SOLVED] Black screen after GRUB

    Hello everyone
I was setting up a machine with E17 and was trying various DM's since none seemed to work. After attempting to use LightDM, I get a black screen after GRUB. I was trying to read the various logs at /var/log/ but I cannot understand them properly. I tried reinstalling entrance and LightDM with no luck. I even tried editing grub's entry appending '1' or 's' and still no dice. Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi tnx for both answers.
I missed something important in Xorg.log. As you can see, fbdev and modesetting aren't loading as usual. I didn't check grub stuff, I don't think it's related, since loading in level 3 (text mode) I get a black screen but I can login as root and turn off the computer blindlessly.

No, I can't get it to work changing DM's. I'm not sure if I pacman -Syu before changing DM's another time. Maybe it wasn't LightDM's fault afterall.

  • [Solved]Black screen after "waiting for udev uevents to be processed"

    Hello friends,
Starting from late Dec., my laptop goes black screen after "waiting for udev uevents to be processed", after updating kernel to 2.26.32.*.  The strange thing is that even the screen is black, the keyboard is working. For example, I can turn on/off the status lights of capslock and others. I guess something might be wrong with udev uevents configuration with regard to the latest kernel. I've noticed that in the new kernel, there are two drivers for intel integrated graphics. My laptop has a 855G, which is supposed to be functional by both drivers, at least according to the kernel description. Maybe because the udev is configured to use the second driver (for newer graphic chips), rather than the first driver, which caused the problem?

  • Black Screen After Windows 8 64-bit Upgrade (Clean Install) on TouchSmart IQ508A (IQ500 series)

    Hi there,
Just installed Windows 8 and am getting a black screen after booting up like many others. I currently have disabled the graphics driver and this has solved the black screen issue but I can no longer use my web cam for Skype (although web cam works for W8 Camera App oddly).
To date I have tried the following:
Loading up the latest Nvidia drivers from the Nvidia website
Attempting to use the drivers for Windows 7 both in compatability mode and normally. I unzipped SP44488 to get this working
I know many others are having this problem so I really would  like someone from HP to respond and state whether a Windows 8 display driver for the Nvidia GE Force 9300M GS is being developed.
I ran the compatability wizard prior to the clean install and it came up with no issues so I am very disappointed I am having these problems.
I've found out that HP have a customised version of the above card so that explains why the Nvidia drivers dont work so I believe HP is therefore obligated to provide a driver.
If anyone else is having similar issues please respond as this will hopefully lead to more action.
    cheers
    Steve

I'm in the same boat. On my IQ804, the Nvidia GE Force 9300M GS card crashes when I use NVidia's latest Windows 8 driver and Microsoft's LIVE UPDATE drivers.  I have to resort to the Standard VGA driver in order for the pc not to crash into a black screen.
I read on another forum you can try installing a July 2012 version of the driver from NVidia and that should solve the problem.  I tried it once. Using the July 2012 version, the screen would stay on longer, but eventually it crashes into a black screen...but definitely more usable than the latest from NVidia and Microsoft.
I too have heard that HP used a customized version of the graphics card and that's why neither HP nor NVidia's drivers work.
I also tried installing the Nvidia GE Force 9300M GS drivers for Windows 7 that I downloaded from the HP website.  It didn't work either.  It actually failed to install altogether, saying my system is incompatible.
As is, the pc works fine.  But videos and games that require motion is noticably choppy.
    Any help from HP??

  • Black Screen after logging in locally to Windows 7 that previously had an open RDP session.

Here is what happens. I leave my home computer on (running Windows 7 Ultimate) and sometimes I will remote to it from another location (work, friends house, or wherever). When I return home, I will go to login, the screen then goes blank (no mouse cursor
or anything). I have to do a cold boot to get back into Windows. This only happens if I ever RDP into it sometimes during the day. It seems random. I've tried logging off the RDP session, just closing it without logging off, nothing seems to be the answer
in that regard. It seems very random at times. I'll go a week and I can come home and it will login fine with no problems. Then the next week it starts giving me the black screen after I come home and login locally. I've seen several black screen issues here,
but usually they are getting it before logon. Anyone have a clue what might be causing this?
