Satellite A200 crashing when moved or when CPU usage is too high
Alright so fairly recently my Toshiba Satellite A200 has started crashing whenever I pick up the laptop or run any processes that take the CPU usage up to around 100%.
This essentially means no 3D rendering or games and no running Photoshop and iTunes at the same time etc. Here's the kicker though, it only happens when the laptop is plugged in and not when on battery power alone. I've already tried using a different AC adapter and I cleaned off the hard drive for a fresh install of Windows 7 neither of which fixed the issue. I even went so far as to update the BIOS.
I am not fairly determined that this is solely a hardware issue but I was wondering if anybody had any suggestions as to which part may be acting up on me. Like I said it still works like a dream when running on battery power.
hi Cyborg771,
it seems to be related to the ac-in jack..
is there any change or symptom when moving the ac-plug?
also the circuit that is managing the power supply could be the "bad guy"
if the contact to the powerboard isnt good, the circuit starts to check the state every 10ms..this will slow down your machine...
how old is your notebook?
still got warranty on?
a solution may be to solder/fix/change the jack
or see a servicepartner

Seems my CPU usage is very high.
Right now I've shut down any other users and am only running firefox, activity monitor and some dashboard widgets (that the activity monitor shows are not using any resources) yet my CPU usage is bouncing around with user at about 70%, system at about 15% and Nice about 10%
On the activity monitor something call perl seems to be using all the CPU.
What's going on and what can / should I do?
Thanks
iMac G5 20 Mac OS X (10.4.8)I'm not making much progress.
This morning after startup and with both my wife and me logged in the HP Scanjet manager process seemed to be taking over -- I quit the process and the CPU use calmed down.
Then I rebooted and with only me as the user and only the activity monitor launched the "perl" application consumed around 90% of the CPU.
I unplugged all extra USB stuff (including the scanner) and rebooted and the same is happening -- perl is at about 80% but it seems to split responsiblity between the user and the system (40% user / 60% system with perl at 80%)
The only other thing I have plugged in is an external hard drive connected by firewire -- it takes a back up every morning and houses my iTunes library.
Any thoughts?

Satellite A200-24B (PSAE6) - display hangs when the pictures are zoomed
Dear Sirs, I can't believe that ther is no solution for the product you produce. Like my Toshiba that I bought 14 months ago and trying to fix it. I have a problem with my Display Card "ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2600" when I view pictures with Windows Photo Gallery and trying to zoom it ... the display screen will hang and go with black and red blocks!
I tried to install all kinds of windows (XP - Vista from basic to ultimate). I tried to download all versions of catalyst from version 6 to 9.7. so what is going on!!!!
Do you know that most of my friends and people hated the brand Toshiba because of this bad reputation in the market ... keep in mind that Toshiba laptops with Nvidia graphic card doesn't have the same problem. please please please help me!
Your prompt response will be highly appreciated.
Sincerely,Dear Lars_3,
First of all I want to thank you for your support. But I've tried all what you said, to the point that I downloaded CCC version 9.8 and still have the same problem, even the latest bios version!!!.
FYI I advised my friend to buy the same laptop "Toshiba A200-24B" because it had the best specifications that days. He is facing the same problem too!!!!! I believe this edition of laptop was very bad. Any way in this case I have to go and fight with the service center in my country that is responsible to repair it. Because I have three years warranty. So I am going to abuse it ;-)
If you can do any further help please tell me. I don't know how to attach a file if possible to show you my system information that may help in finding my problem!
So I am copied and pasted this information as follows:

Satellite A200 won't shut down when power supply is connected
The Satellite A200 just shuts down, if the power cable is disconnected before shutting down. Otherwise the notebook shuts down and restarts immediately (max 5 seconds between shut down and restart).
Does anybody got the same strange problem?Hi Thomas
You should definitely contact the ASP in your country. Maybe its something wrong with the power supply electronic on the notebooks motherboard.
As John said the replacement should be done for free because the A200 is a new series and the warranty should be valid.
Good luck -
When viewing flash video, CPU Usage goes to 100%
When I try to watch a streaming video that uses Flash Player (say nbc.com),
my CPU Usage goes to 100%. It causes the audio to crackle, video to freeze,
and ultimately locks up my whole computer. When I check Task Manager,
the Flash Player usage is through the roof. If I can manage to pause the video,
the Flash Player usage drops down to 5%, and similarly overall CPU usage down to only around
5%, but as soon as I press play . . . It very rapidly within 20 seconds sends CPU usage
to 100%. This happens in either Firefox or IE. This is assuming that I can pause the
video quick enough. If I don't, the whole CPU crashes with usage locked at 100%, and
only a hard reboot (power button) will work.
I am running the most recent versions of Flash Player and Firefox on Windows 7.
More specifically:
Flash Player version: 11.5 r502
Firefox version: 18.0.1
I am running Windows 7 Home-Premium 32-bit.
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo CPU @ 2.10 GHz 2.10GHz
Memory: 4GHz installed (2.87 GHz usable)
I have already followed the steps in the "Windows 7 Flash Player Problems" list.
I.E. deleting Flash Player cache, and disabling Hardware Acceleration
But this has not solved the problem.
Please help!!
Thanks!Hi Chris,
I've recorded the complete DXDIAG report at the bottom.
I tried the HTML5 video, and it plays smoothly with no problems,
total CPU usage always stayed below 10%, and Flash was always at 0%.
I tried the non-HMTL5 video, and it did play fine all the way through,
Flash Player usage seemed to fluctuate between 10-20%, with memory
usage slowly creeping up to 93,000K. Typically on the videos on NBC.com
say, the flash player usage would rapidly go to 150,000K and simultaneously
the flash player CPU usage would skyrocket: 20%, 40%, 70%, . . . taking
the CPU usage to 100% and causing the problems I mentioned. In
fact, YouTube is probably one of the few video sites where I typically
don't have problems. Once the Flash Player would get out of hand, typically
the video would start skipping and the audio crackling, then audiodg.exe
would start using 10% resources which would aggravate the problem.
Hopefully you will notice something from the DirectX Diagnostic Tool.
In the meantime, I will try the Flash 11.6 Beta.
Here is the complete record from DXDIAG:

My computer is a Dell with 4bg RAM. I sude this pc before with itunes and ipod with no problmes. I appreciate any help on this
I'm having the same issue for more than a month. When it's not open it's draing the cpu making the pc run slow and when open the cpu is maxxed at 100% that the I can barely use the computer and can't sync. And I only use it to back up and sync. Just downloaded the new version today thinking it would help but it didn't. Interesting to see if anyone has any answers.

My macbook pro cpu temperature is too high??please tell me correct fact and information
i mistake deleting my activity.......re question...
I'm using macbook pro retina 13inch 2013 late version.
my macbook has NO external graphic card, just iris graphic.
when i was playing diablo3 or watching movie by using bypass ip address, my cpu temperature was maintained 90~100 celcius degrees.
And at the same time, my cooling fan was maintained 5800~6000 rpm.
There are two questions.
One, is my macbook temperature too high or normal level ?
Two, i know that 6200rpm is maximum speed of cooling fan. Why did fan run 5800~6000rpm, not maximum? When processor intensive activities are taking place, temperature may reach the maximum level.

2.7 GHz Intel Core i7 CPU TEMP 90c Too high?
Hi I have a mac mini (mid 2011) spec:
Processor 2.7 GHz Intel Core i7
Memory 8 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
Graphics AMD Radeon HD 6630M 256 MB
Software Mac OS X Lion 10.7.2 (11C74)
22" + 17" monitors
and my CPU temp is around the 85c to 90c degree. Is this normal? Currently just surfing the net, and i think its making my mouse loss connections sometimes.
thanks for your help guys,If you are in fact only surfing web and don't have a myriad
of background apps running, then 85 to 90C is in fact to
hot.
I have a new Mac Mini Server connected to a Thunderbolt
Display and have been surfing for a couple of hours and
have a CPU temp of 47C and fan at ~2300 RPM.
(Note: room temp is 21C)
If your Mini is running that hot, the fans should be roaring!
What is your fan speed?
BTW, the only time I hit temps like that is when I am using
Handbrake to do video conversions, which will max out all
cores available. The fan gets up to ~4500-4800 RPM.
The only time the Mini should get that hot is if you have
something running that will max out CPU usage. Check
activity monitor to see if there is some process that is
"running away" and forcing CPU to max out.
If the fan is not working properly, you may need to do
an SMC reset. If it is not working at all, get it fixed.
So, in conclusion, light CPU usage should not make the
Mini that hot! -
Satellite A200 - HDD2 cover - cannot remove when unscrewed
I have an A200-27Z
I want to remove the HDD2 cover for 2 reasons:
firstly to install a 2nd disk
secondly to investigate why PC cards will only insert halfway.
I've removed the 2 screws but the cover simply will not budge. Something else is holding it.
I'd rather not apply force or open the entire casing.
Anyone know the secret technique?
Thanks in advance> And what for there is a room for the second HDD?
The point is that the A200 was equipped with different hardware and different motherboards. Some of the A200 notebooks can be upgraded with 2 HDDs and some A200 Satellite notebook can use only one HDD.
But the notebooks covers are always the same and therefore you can find the second HDD bay but no HDD connectors ;) -
Satellite A200-1G2 battery only charges when Windows is shut down?
Hi all,
I have a problem with my battery.
1. Computer is turned off
2. The battery is LOW
3. I plug in the power cable and the LED is Orange and the battery is charging.
I know the battery is charging because when I turn on the computer after a while there is for example 44% charged.
4. When I look now at the battery status there is "44% available, battery plugged in, not charging
5. at this time the battery is not charging anymore and the power goes down 40%.....35%....32%....ex...
6. When I now turn of the computer the LED is back orange and the battery is charging again.
7. one more thing : when the battery is 100% charged with computer off and I then turn the computer on
the battery stays at 100% because the computer is running on power cable.
My conclusion is that the battery only charges when the computer is turned off ?
ones the battery is 100% the computer works on power cable.
if the battery is not charged for 100% and I turn on the computer, the computer is not working on power cable ( the power cable is plugged in ) and the battery power lowers again.
What can I do about that.
HELPHi mate,
First of all I must agree you that battery charging should also work if the notebook is turned on. I mean on my notebooks it works always properly and I have only founded this on the Toshiba website: http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/FAQ35007K001ZR01.htm
But to be honest I think there is a hardware problem with your notebook because there is no software option that must enable/disable to charge battery in Windows.
Another question: If you go into BIOS, will the battery be charged?
If not I would contact the nearest authorized service provider for help. They should check your notebook and maybe its a mainboard problem or something else. On the Toshiba website you can search for nearest ASP:
http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com > Support & Downloads > Find an authorized service provider
If you have more questions, please let us know and give us a feedback if the problem is solved. Its always interesting to read this and I think for other users too. ;) -
Wierd sound when moving MBP when running
I was doing something on my macbook and tilted it on its side to look at something and it made some very weird "scratching" noises. Is it supposed to do this?
No, I would have it looked at. You may have a fan issue like some people are experiencing.

Satellite C670D-10W - Task manager shows 100% CPU usage
My brand new laptop with factory installed windows 7 and all programs by Toshiba nothing addded shows 100% processor usage in task Manager and works pretty slow. The sum of 80 odd processes shown in task manager never reaches more than 30-50 % but bottom line is always 100%.
Tried process hacker 2, shows same processes as task manager.
What can be the problem? If you check this forum you will see that you can find many threads with the same or similar content. Many people have noticed the same after notebook purchase, especially phenomena that notebook is pretty slow. Just without panic. What you must do is to optimize preinstalled operating system.
What can be the problem?
Brand new notebook is preinstalled with original Toshiba recovery image. This recovery image contains operating system, all necessary drivers, different Toshiba specific tools and utilities and some additional software like preinstalled McAffe or Norton antivir.
Many of these tools, utilities and additional software will start with operating system and run in the background. To be honest some of them can be deactivated, some of them can be also removed from the system. By default Windows update is set to automatic so when you go online all available windows updates will be installed automatically in the background and this will happen without your knowledge. This updates installation will make your HDD pretty busy and notebook operations will be slowed down.
I recommend you to change this option and set it to Check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install.....
I hope you understand what I want to say and if you have more questions you are welcome. -
Fans going at 6000 rpm with little cpu usage--computer too hot?
Hi,
I am not sure what normal temperatures are for my computer, but often the fans are running at 6000 rpm when the computer doesn't have all that much going on. When I am trying do anything actually demanding, the fans are running non-stop. I've also noticed that things have just been running rather slowly, with lags in mouseclicks and typing. I am not sure if these are related, or why the computer might be working so hard to complete simple tasks. Here is a picture of iStatPro showing what's going on--CPU is 95% idle and the fans are at 6000 rpm. Does anyone know if the temperatures shown are normal or what I can do to improve the situation?
Thanks!
LauraIt seems the image cannot be enlarged.

CPU temperature is too high in Solaris 10 sun fire v890 machine
Hi,
I just installed Solaris 10 on a sun fire v890 machine. I used the prtdiag -v command to check the system.
However, It appears to me that the CPU temperatures is higher than the temperature range specified in the technical specification. The server is a standalone node that does not connect to the network or process anything.
Is it a problem? Thank you.

RyanHi Rukbat,
Thanks for your reply.
I have displayed the verbose prtdiag -v on the v890 machine.
However, I couldn't find the hard-coded operational ranges. Could you please advise?
Hi Sun-worshiper,
I executed the command and couldn't find the targeted temperature.

High CPU usage, overheating, and high fan speed on DV4-1125nr
the process igfxsrvc.exe is running in between 30 and 40 of my CPU. my total CPU is about 55% or so while idle. i tried disabling that driver, and it's CPU went down to about 20, but my total CPU was still at the same place, if not a little higher. also, my computor is overheating a lot, and my fan is constantly running on it's highest speed. i do not believe that this is caused by a dirty vent. also, I have checked the version of the graphics driver and the BIOS(both of which i saw the suggestion to update by several people having similar problems) and both are up to date. what is the problem? am i being highjacked/ infested with viruses and i dont know it despite having already ran all my virus protection and anti-malware programs? someone please help before i have to take it to geek squad! thank you in advance!
Hello,
I decided to sacrifice a little bit of performance for the sake of cool temperatures and silent fan. I have HP DV6, with AMD Turion RM-74 and HD4650.
So, Yes, You will loose up to 15 percent Your CPU power, but heyh, this processor is so fast that You will barelly notice the change. You will still watch HD content with 720p and everything else smoothly. Note, that gaming will be harder part but consider Your laptop not as a device created for heavy gaming.
At one point or another, during games, someday Your notebook inevitably colapse. It's just not meant for gaming, no matter what the specs are...
So, how to reduce Your notebook temps:
(i) Power Options -> More power options,
(ii) Balanced plan -> Change settings,
(iii) Change advanced power settings
(iv) Processor power management -> Maximum processor state -> On Battery - 50 percent, Plugged in - 85 percent.
(vi) Save changes and close.
Now, mine temperatures are - idle 48, heavy load - 57, extremelly heavy load (HD 720p content) - 62-63. (At the moment my CPU cores are at 47 celsius).
CPU still works fast, not so fast as it is working on 100 percent, but hey, fan is silent, and if You want gaming - go to Your desktop pc, leave notebook for lighter tasks, even though the notebooks specs are high,
it simply cannot handle the heat.
Best regards.

HP 1350 copy function prints blank pages
