Satellite A200 shuts down automatically

My Satellite A200 is less than 10 months old but it has started to just shut down all of a sudden without warning.
When I try to turn it back on it often doesn't reach the Vista screen before powering off again.
Interestingly, when I remove the charger cable it seems to be able to boot up and survive at least for a longer duration.
Any ideas please?

Hi
I think the notebook shuts down automatically due to a higher internal temperature.
The point is that such notebooks supports a overheating protection and if the temperature increases to a critical level, the notebook shuts down automatically to prevent the hardware from damage.
In most cases the air cannot circulate properly due to clogged cooling grilles and therefore the temperature increases to a higher level.
In my opinion the cooling ventilators should be cleaned up.
The compressed air spray is a professional tool which could helps you to get rid of dust and debris.

  • Satellite M100 shuts down automatically after about 10min

    Hey there guys :)
My Toshiba Laptop has been powering off abrubptly and on it's own lately.
When I turn my Laptop on, everything appears fine, battery if fully charged, AC adapter plugged in etc. However, after about 10 minutes of use it will just turn off and make a little 'zoip' noise or similar. Turning the laptop back on right after works, but I find that it will only stay on for about 4 minutes before doing the same. Turning it back on again reduces the time it stays on, sometimes not even going past the boot sequence.
However, if I leave it alone for a couple of hours and come back to it, it will stay on for about 10 minutes again, before going thru the same process.
I have a waranty, but I'm hesitant in taking my laptop in because I don't want to lose my files.
So I am hoping someone here has a fix for my problem :)
    Thank you,
    Osman

    Hi
Sorry to said it but in my opinion its a hardware problem. This strange notebook behavior seems to be a simply overheating!
The notebook supports an overheating protection to prevent the hardware from the damage.
If the temperature increases to the higher level the notebook shuts down automatically. This is a fact and nothing unusual in such case.
Mostly the fan cleaning helps but sometimes the notebook must be opened for professional cleaning. But note: I dont recommend opening or removing any cases! You would lose the warranty!!!
Maybe a simple vacuuming would make the job.
Anyway, you said you will not lose the data on your HDD. Well, I wonder why you dont create an data backup You can also remove the HDD and connect it via external USB controller to the second PC and could save the files on the other HDD.
After this procedure you should put the HDD again into the notebook and try to reinstall the OS.
If it does not help I would recommend taking the warranty.

  • Re: Satellite A200 - Shuts down for no reason

I was wandering where to post this, and for a long time, lets get help. My laptop, Toshiba Satellite A200, 3.5 years old
    *The problem:*
Previously, its used to shut down by itself in the middle of applications without any warning, the shutting down used to be /: Screen shuts down, no input from keyboard or touchpad, but the front lights that signify the laptop is "ON" did remain* so I used to restart it and thought its a OS prob. or a battery/charger problem (replaced both but no difference) and then this thing started being more common and now, the day has come, that it wont switch boot.
    *The current scenario:*
When I switch it on with the Battery (without the charger), it powers up, screen switches on, it boots up, everythig normal and at that point if I plug in any compatible charger (I have tried a few), it will go off (the same way as mentioned in bold letters above). If I restart it or start it otherwise while charger plugged in, it wont start except the front lights, the fan, and the most important thing, a sound from the processor (like sparking sound), this sound only is heard while I plug in the charger.
So, please help me out here, I am not sure why it is not booting up

thanks for the advice , but i have already opened the laptop case , the sound specifically is coming from the Processor. it is a crackling sound.
i removed the RAM and inserted the power supply, and there was no crackling sound from the processor, but when i put the RAm back , the sound is there.
just before opening, i tried booting up form a pen drive, and the laptop did boot-up half way in, till the the screen displayed "windows is starting up" , then it went OFF again,
i mean if the CPU is damaged, how cn it boot half way, or if RAM is the problem, how does the windows logo show up, and definitely there is no prblem, with HDD,
and i have replaced both charger and battery .
so what could be the problem?
i can provide more information, or follow any sort of instructions. but please help

  • Satellite A200 shuts down randomly - I may have a solution

    Hello,
I am having a Toshiba satellite A200-1sj, but the laptop have issues and it shuts down it self randomly.
I have changed thermal paste of the CPU and GPU and this is not related to heat because it some times could power off even after first start when the board is cold. I have started the board out of the case, just bare naked with the cooling pipes on it and it would shut again, without its hard, wifi adapter or modem so this is not related to them. I have also tested with another power charger from a friends A200-23k and it still shuts down so its not about it either.
BUT !!! The big but is what I have discovered and I think toshiba is to blame! This issue is related to the voltage regulator some how and it is not working properly for some add reason. I have also found some kind of solution last night after a bios save and exit the fan stuck at 100% and the machine have not shut down since then and it looks like when the fan is regulated and it rises and lowers the voltages then the problem appears.
The sad thing is that i left the cpu from bios at low profile so it will run at only 1GHz and I am afraid to change it within bios because i may loose the 100% fan operation and the machine will get unstable again! :(.
Current bios i have is 2.60 and I am thinking to try 5.30 if the machine starts to shut down again but i think this would be no go because the fan will regulate again ;(.
Is there someone from Toshiba who can create a bios with a constant voltage for the fan so it wont have up and down times which could be less painful for the regulator i guess and may bring stability at decent noise.
I am open to any suggestions,
    Best Regards,

YES I have successfully restored my bios.
Here is the URL from which you can download the proper boot disc crisis tool: http://www.mediafire.com/?3ccb9m0kv0m
You first need to make your bootable floppy disk. I have made mine with CRISDISK.BAT from the archive. This is an easy to use bat file and in some cases slight editing may be needed if the usb floppy you are using is recognized as letter B: You just search for "A:" and change the values to B:
After you have your bootable disk you have to delete the file BIOS.WPH and copy the desired bios for your model on the floppy with the same name(bios.wph).
Then you need to create autoexec.bat file. - this could be easy, you just create an text file with notepad and rename it autoexec.bat after you have the needed lines in it.
    In my case i used autoexec.bat with the following lines: phlash16.exe /x /s /BBL /MODE=2 bios.WPH
When I used the bat file with mode=3 which is most common way out on the forums it did not worked but with mode 2 things went faster and smooth. Mode 3 took around 20 minutes in reading the floppy disk with a short pauses looking like flashing block by block but on the end flashing result was = BSOD. So for those who are unable to restore the bios with the guides out there you better flash using mode=2 (preserve dmi) just like I did. Still if mode=2 also is not working you may experiment with the other two options remaining.
I will explain those modes for you in case you are wondering.
0 - update the bios and not the dmi
1 - update the dmi and not the bios
2 - update the dmi and the bios (preserve dmi)
3 - update the dmi and the bios (renew dmi)
The bios mode update information above is information I found on the web in another forum so I can not take credit for it.
    P.S.
The only thing kept me going when I used older versions of phlash16.exe was that it actually read the disk and it was for more then 5 seconds which mean that the motherboard was searching for the proper image and this can be a successful way to revive your bios.

  • Satellite A500 shuts down for no reason

My mother's Satellite A500-1EC constantly shuts down by itself. Especially when she uses skype.
It's nothing related with the ac. The same thing happends when its not plugged in.
I updated the BIOS and the drivers, which only solved a previous problem (when it was turning on automatically).
It looks like many people have or had similar problems. I guess Toshiba has found an answer now, but I can't find it anywhere...
    Thanks!

    Hi
In most case the notebooks (no matter what notebook or what manufacturer it is) shuts down automatically due to higher temperature inside the notebook. This is a kind of overheating protection which helps to prevent the hardware parts from damage.
It would be interesting to know if cleaning the cooling grilles might help you.
I clean my ventilators from time to time using compressed air spray. This blows off all the dust inside the grilles and keep the temperature at lower level.

  • My Satellite A30 shuts down on its own

Since last 3-4 days my laptop, toshiba satellite A30, just shut down automatically. I have noticed that possibly it is getting overheated for i can hear the fan moving at a high speed.
    Can anyone help?

    Hi Vijay,
It sounds as if you have a problem with dust blocking the CPU heat sink. This causes the symptoms that you describe.
You can try removing the dust through the fan intake grilles using a domestic vacuum cleaner, or if you prefer you can remove the plastic cover adjacent to the fan grilles and then remove the heatsink to clear out any debris.
You can find several threads in this forum relating to overheating.

Adobe Reader is free. It always has been.
You have obviously downloaded and installed Acrobat (30 day trial version) and the trial period has expired.
You need to uninstall Acrobat (using the Control Panel and Add/Remove Programs or Programs and Features [Vista/7])
Then run the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301
to completely remove the Acrobat installer files.
Then download Reader 9, install it, and go about reading PDFs for free.
EDIT: Please, please please.... do NOT post a phone number in the forums.
You're inviting trouble if you do.
Not everyone who reads these pages is here to help fellow Adobe product users.

Most likely you have another WebLogic instance already listening on 7001.

How long are you leaving it on the charger?
Are you connecting it directly to an electrical outlet or trying to charge via USB?  USB may not provide enough power to adequately charge the device if the battery is that low.
If none of that helps, then the only option would be a warranty replacement as either the battery or system board is bad.

Have you solve your problem yet?  Mine was the same - it's Dockables "fault"
Were you able to boot into Safe Mode, by pressing and holding Shift key at Start up, I think you need to press and hold a while, till you see a progress bar below the Apple logo.
Then you can quickly go and delete all the Dockables.
If you found another way to boot up, also delete Dockables immediately.

First plug it into a charger and wait at least 15 to 20 minutes to give the battery some charge in case the battery has completely discharged.
Then press both the Home and Power On button together for some 15 seconds or so until the apple logo appears (ignore the power off red slider if it appears and keep on holding the buttons).  Let go when the apple logo appears and wait until the iPhone resets and restarts.
