Satellite A200 System Recovery from USB drive

Hi all,
I have a A200-1BW laptop, the issue is that its CD/DVD is not working. I have all the 3 recovery CDs for Windows Vista (Ultimate) provided by Toshiba, but I cannot restore my system. Is it possible to copy the recovery CDs on USB drive and then execute the system recovery for windows vista (ultimate).
Regards,
Asad

Hi
I never tried that but I found this thread:

Check this. Maybe it would be helpful
You can also try to install fresh copy of Windows OS using the USB pen drive.
There are many instructions how to do that with Win 7. Just google
After installation of fresh Win 7 you could install the drivers from Toshiba European driver page.

    Hi:
If you can still read the windows 7 product key on the bottom of your notebook you can make your own W7 installation disk.
    Here's how:
If you can read the 25 character Microsoft windows 7 product key, you can download plain Windows 7 ISO files to burn to a DVD for the version of windows that came installed on your PC, and that is listed on the Microsoft COA sticker on your PC's case.
Burn the ISO using the Burn ISO option on your DVD burning program and burn at the slowest possible speed your program will allow. This will create a bootable DVD.
Or use the Windows 7 USB/DVD installation tool to compile the ISO file you download from Digital River. Link and instructions below. You need a 4 GB flash drive to use the USB method of compilation.
    http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msstore/html/pbPage.Help_Win7_usbdvd_dwnTool
Use the 25 character product key on the PC to activate the installation.
The key will activate either a 32 or 64 bit installation.
Then go to the PC's support and driver page to install the drivers you need.
Link to the W7 ISO file downloads is below.

  • Restoring to SSD from USB drive with no HD

My Acronis cloning software refuses to work, and they refuse to help, so I'm trying to make my solid state drive the bootable device by making a system restore image on a USB external drive, and booting to a system repair DVD. I can't make the DVD disk boot! And I can't make recovery manager start with F11 despite it saying it will on the lower right screen.
I get an error "This version of system Recovery Options is not compatible with the version of windows you are trying to repair" I just made it from the computer I'm trying to repair! And if the hard drive is unplugged, how dies it know what version I'm trying to repair?

    Hello @davidstreb,
I understand that you are not able to enable a system recovery from the RECOVERY Partition on your desktop computer, and I would be happy to assist you!
To recover your system, I recommend acquiring new recovery media by following the steps in this document on Obtaining HP Recovery Discs or an HP USB Recovery Drive. Once obtained, you can recover your operating system by following this resource on Performing an HP system recovery (Windows 8).

  • Booting the M60-104 notebook from USB drive - possible or not?

    Hi,
i am using the windows XP on my hard drive(IDE ), i want to boot my pc using external usb hard drive. whenever i try to install the OS on /usb drive the first boot after copy of OS files itself fails saying, boot_device_unmountaable_fatal_error...something like this..i tried every trick i know to make this work..amazingly if i make my hard drive bootable on DOS with command.com on it..the system boots on DOS...which makes me think that the BIOS support the booting from USB drive..but none of the windows operating systems are booting from it...will any one is kind enough to solve the puzzle for me?????
    thanks

    Hello,
I can not say if it is supported on this notebook or not, but on some Satellite M series USB memory is a supported boot option. If you hit F2 on start up and go into BIOS then check boot, if it is supported it should be listed there. Otherwise it is not supported on this model. Hope that helps.

  • Cannot force destructive system recovery from recovery disc set Pavilion a1630n

I have a Pavilion a1630n.  This desktop originally came with windows xp media center edition 2005.
I had exercised the windows vista home premium express upgrade several/many years ago.
I attempted to  restore the computer after getting malware or virus infected.   I found that microsoft system restore had been turned off and no system restore points were available.   The set of vista system recovery discs that I had made after the os upgrade were also seemingly unuseable.  I attempted to perform a destructive system recovery from the external discs that I had purchased in 2009.  The recovery seemed to take place from the hard drive only and did not request recovery disc 2 or 3.
I now have a windows xp operating system with no files in the hp recovery partition except hidden files.  An attempt to run another recovery returns a message that the recovery partition not found!  no software is available for reinstallation.  hardware tests that I have run show no problems with any hardware.
I've attempted to various combinations of restarts per the support documents wither using the f10 or esc key to no avail.
Ideally I would like to know that the hard drive was successfully formatted and that the recovery takes place from the system recovery discs that I had purchased.  (I'm fairly sure that the discs worked at one point as I used them prior to the windows vista upgrade.)   I believe that the discs are still in good condition as I can browse the discs on the laptop that I am using.  I've also written and read cd's successfully but I have not attempted to read or write a dvd format.

At power on the menu options listed are
    esc Boot Menu
    F1 setup
    F10 Recovery
I tried f9 per your suggestion since this is not a defined key.  I can see the optical drive access the disk with the blinking cursor....after a minute or two the computer boots from the hard drive and does NOT attempt to perform system recovery.
I have set the to boot from the optical drive first (tsst corp ts-h652m)
The optical drive is accessed but eventually (after a minute or two)  the computer boots up from the hard drive.
If I change the bios settings to only boot from the optical drive after a few minutes I receive the following message
" Disk boot failure, Insert system disk and press enter"
    FYI
    drivers in use
    Samsung SP2504C (HDD) uses 5.1.2535.0
Tsst TS-h652m (optical drive) uses 5.1.2535.0
    phoenix bios rev 3.10 12/13/2006
    core rev 6.0
    Any other suggestions ?

    Hello,
My iPhone 4 got version 4.2.1 but when i go to computer > properties >device management then i see: Apple Recovery (DFU) USB Driver.
I know that it is in dfu mode but i really dont know how i can get out of here. I tried everything what i can do i tried now 3 days to fix this but i dont have any results. My iphone 4 wont turn on but when i connect it with my computer than it says it is in recovery mode. So does anyone know how i fix Apple Recovery (DFU) USB Driver??????????

    Jailbreaking is bad mmmkay.
To get it out of DFU, generally hold down both the Power/Wake button and the Home button together for ten seconds, then release the Power/Wake button and keep holding Home until the White Apple shows up on screen. (Literally the same thing you would have done to put it into DFU in the first place..)

  • System recovery from partition recovery fails

    hi there,
I tried doing a system recovery on my HP Pavilion from the reovery partition. I tried the "System Recovery" option.
The preparation process wnt fine, but the actual recovery failed with a pretty meaningless message:
The recovery attempt has failed. Please select one of the following buttons.
    - Details
    - Retry
I checked out the log file but found no useful info. The process did crate a log file, HP_RM_LOG.SRD, a binary file that should be of help to HP Support when trubleshooting the issue.
I tried this a number of times with the same outcome. I also tried the "Factory Reset" option with the same result. Unfortuntely I did not create the recovery media before attempting the system recovery from the recovery partition (my bad).
Any ideas how to move forward?
    Thanks,
    Nacho.

    Hi there @Nacho74
Welcome to the Hp Support Forums!
I understand that you are trying to do a system restore, and getting an error during the process. Also from the information you gave it looks like you installed OS X 10.6.  When you installed that did you leave the recovery partition intact?
Which operating system was original installed on the notebook? Normally that notebook was installed with either windows 8 or 8.1 from the factory, and if the recovery partition is intact it would only be able to recover to whichever of those was installed to begin with.

  • How do I restore backup swm files created during system recovery from external hard drive

    Good day,
I was facing some problems with my laptop (HP Envy 17 3D Notebook with windows 7 home premium, 64 bit) and I had to return it back to its original state using system recovery.
During the process I was asked if I want to back up my data. I have chosen to backup my data in the flash drive. Once the process has completed and my laptop is to the original state, I tried to recover my backup but it tells me:
The version of this file is not compatible with the version of windows you're running. Check your computer's system information to see whether you need an x86 (32-bit) or x64 (64-bit) version of the program, and then contact the software publisher.
If i click run as administrator it tell me:
Windows cannot find 'F:\Backup_2015-04-29 143842\Restore.exe'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again.
there are files labeled like backup.swm, backup1.swm, backup2.swm. I can't open these files or do anything with them. In a text document it lists all the files it apparently copied. It is only a list of text, nothing else.
any help will be greatly appriciated.

  • How do I restore backup1.swm files created during system recovery from external hard drive.

On my hp dm1 with windows 7 In full detail, this is what I did. I clicked to do a system recovery, it asked if I wanted to backup the files, I said yes. It said it backed up my files on the external hard drive. I continued the system recovery. It set my computer back to factory settings. I tried to recover my backup, it acted like it was restoring the files and showed them going into the c: area in a folder. I open the folder and it says the folder is empty. I hit properties and the folder contains 10mb+ of data. I go back into my LaCie drive, there are files labeled like backup.swm, backup1.swm, backup2.swm. I can't open these files or do anything with them. In a text document it lists all the files it apparently copied. It is only a list of text, nothing else. Have a 12 page research paper in these back ups that is due in a few hours so any help will be greatly appriciated.

    @Daniella1985,
If the standard procdure of locating the program launcher (a .exe file) on the first backup media (disk 1 or the external storage device) is not working, then you can manually extract the files using 7-zip.
    7-zip can be found here.
Once 7-zip is installed, open it and navigate to the first .swm file of the backup.  Right-click the .swm file and select 7-zip>open archive.  Once that opens, it should reveal the contents of the .swm files.  If the file contains something you want to keep, you can either extract each invidual file or extract the entire directory.  If you want to extract each individual file, highlight the desired file and click the extract button at the top.  If you want to extract the entire directory, make sure no items are highlighted and click the extract  button at the top.
This is a manual process and it can be a large task depending on how many files were backed up, but it is one method to get the backedup files when the standard procedure is not working.

  • Satellite A200 - need help with USB boot

    Hi to all,
I have a startup problem with my Satellite A200.
I am booting from my USB key. It is bootable Linux to install the tutorial is this:
Insert the USB key or drive you want to boot from.
    Restart the computer.
During startup, when prompted, press the appropriate button to display the "Boot Options". Usually it is F2, F8 or F12 (be displayed on the splash screen).
In the boot menu, select the drive to boot from.
The computer will now boot from the USB key or the first disc to change the boot priority back to boot from the hard drive. Perform the procedure again, but to choose the hard drive in step 4 the computer will now boot from the first hard disk.
My problem just part shift to the right that when it restarts with the USB key plugged remain frozen and Toshiba screen is displayed but it does not load anything.
F2 I want to access the BIOS it makes me please wait but nothing happen. I'm nothing like 1hr wait for F12 boot selections except that all boot are marked exceptions to the FDD one on which I want to boot.
So I find myself facing an impasse because for Toshiba loads must be connected to nothing which is silly because I want to boot on my key.
    If someone has a solution...

  • Satellite A200 - strange issue after graphic driver upgrade

The problem concerns the driver for Mobile Intel(R) 965 Express Chipset Family. System: Vindows VISTA 32bit Home Premium Service Pack 1. Laptop: Satellite A200.
I installed the new driver from this source (suggestion by Toshiba TEMPO):
    http://ce.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/download_driver_details.jsp?ID=65340&OSID=26&drive rLanguage=42&SOURCE=TEMPO&LNG=20
After switching on of the computer, the system is constantly asking me ("warning about securities"), whether to run (open) 3 files: C:\Windows\System32\igfxtray.exe / ...hkcmd.exe / ...igfxpers.exe. Disabling of option "Always ask before opening of the file" doesn't help. I have to choose option "Open / Cancel / Close" to continue switching on of the Windows (any option allows switching on). Please mind that I have translated above mentioned communications from Polish.
Answer for the question, which I received from Intel(R) Technical Support:
++This is actually not a problem with our drivers. This is related to the administrative/user rights and security features set by Windows* Vista.++
    Yours faithfully,
    Maciej Kochan

When you install drivers, you should Right-click the EXE file and choose "Run as Administrator".
You should also temporarily disable your security software or reconfigure it to allow the system file.
Spyware removal tools such as AdAware and Spybot (or the spyware tool in your Internet Security package) may be blocking the system file.
