my laptop won't boot on windows, but the the power indicator was on. so what i did was i long press the power button to turn it off, then then i press it again still it doesn't work...i tried it a couple of times...luckily it works!
but it happens everytime i try to use my laptop....what i'm going to do so it won't happen again....thanks!

First, let's make sure this is not a power issue.
Remove the battery and AC Adapter from the laptop.  Then press and hold the power button for 15 to 30 seconds to completely decharge the unit.  Afterwards, only plug the AC Adapter in and try turning it on.  If it works, great!  Turn it off, unplug the AC Adapter, plug the battery back in, and then the AC adapter back in and try turning it on once more.  Again, if everything loads up fine, great you sould be good.  If you still get the same problem, Have a local shop check your AC adapter voltage to verify you are getting constant and unfluxed electricity from it.  Typically you can also have them use their universal adapter to test you notebook to see if the problem is still there as well.  If everything above checks out, but you still have the issue, try plugging the notebook into an external monitor to test if it may be the graphics chip or connection to the internal screen that are at fault.

  • Black SOD after Vista Updates on Satellite A205-S5804

I have a Satellite A205-S5804 laptop running Vista Home Premium. It ran fine until an automatic update (about a month ago). Then I got the Black Screen Of Death during bootup (somewhere after the Vista starts to load but prior to the user logon). Took it to the Geek Squad who says it isn't hardware related (as my extended warranty only covers hardware). They claimed it is a corrupted OS. I think they are correct about it not being hardware since I can get it to go to Safe Mode. Restore didn't work. I acquired a copy of Vista Home Premium and attempted to run repair but that didn't correct the problem. Next I reloaded it. Everything ran great like it is suppposed to. But the automatic update downloaded and installed the 92 or so Vista updates that it supposedly needs since the Vista disk was produced. Now the problem is back. I can get to Safe Mode, into the BIOS and just about everything else except I cannot get it to boot normally without black-screening before the login to user prompt. I have hooked an external monitor up and when the laptop blacks out the external monitor reports no signal. I suspect there is an issue with a Vista update (which one I do not know). I have already backed up the data I want to save and have that on another computer. Any suggestions other than to reload Vista and not ever acquire any updates? Is there a setting in the BIOS or a "fix" to the Vista update? I tried searching for hours on this issue and have not found a solution. Thanks for any help or suggestions from other Toshiba users.

     Restore didn't work.
    What does that mean?
It means that when I selected an earlier restore point (prior to when I suspect the Vista update downloaded and installed) the black screen issue remained. At none of my restore points could I get the issue to go away or resolve itself.
I tried the Toshiba restore to out of the box, or at least I wanted to, however, following the manual instructions the laptop did not give me that option. I held down the 0 (zero) button and powered it on but it did not go into the Hard Drive Recovery mode. I suspect my model is not one of the ones that came with this option.
So, after taking the laptop to the Geek Squad originally after the problem appeared and verifying that I don't have a hardware problem and also trying the recommended methods for returning to a stable and fully functional computer, I purchased a legit copy of Vista Home Premium so that I could reload the operating system. Yes, I am realizing how much more difficult Vista is than XP. I have reloaded Vista from scratch. I registered the copy. I have downloaded and installed SP1. I am currently doing SP2. I am basically creating a clean machine with just an OS loaded. Once I am sure that it will function properly (no more blacking out) I will reload my programs and transfer my data back.
Tedious process...but it seems like my best option. And now that it is in progress there really isn't any point in trying anything else other than uninstalling any update(s) after I reach a stable point that may be causing the screen to black out. If and when I reach that point again I will visit Microsoft to see what assistance I can get for any Windows Updates that I can identify as being troublesome.
I really appreciate everyone's input and suggestions. I was hopeful that it would be something as simple as an outdated driver or something along those lines. However, as much as I have searched, I have not found anyone who has had the exact same problem and there doesn't seem to be an easy cure. I will keep you posted on my success or failure with the method I have chosen. Thanks again.

  • Satellite A205-S5804 won't boot.

My computer Satellite A205-S5804 won't boot.
It won't run on safe mode, and it won't run the system restore.
It remains black with a cursor, if anything at all.
How do I get my computer back on?

    Hi
Youve got a cursor which is flashing in the upper left corner?
In such case you should check of the HDD has been recognized by BIOS!
If the HDD is listed in BIOS then I would recommend checking the HDD using the drives fitness test:
    http://www.hitachigst.com/hdd/support/download.htm
To run the drives fitness test you must download the appropriate creator or image and create a self-booting media.
    Check it!

    Hi
    > After installing Microsoft Sync it requires restart and after that my laptop doesn`t boot.
And what does it doesnt boot mean?
Do you get an error message? Is the notebook freezing on start up? Do you get a BSOD?
I dont know how you can solve this issue but can you go in the advanced boot menu? Can you boot in safe mode?
In my opinion the Microsoft Sync installation destroyed something on Windows and in worst case you have to reinstall the whole OS.

  • Satellite A205 will not boot after Pixela ImageMixer 3 install

    Help!
I've had my Satellite (A205 S5804) for a year and a half, and it's been great...until last night. I purchased a Canon camcorder, and went to install the Pixela ImageMixer 3. After following the on-screen install instructions, it recommended I do a reboot. The pc shut down, restarted, and then went into this never-ending spiral of "system recovery diagnostics". I ran the utility, and it can't correct itself (I think something in the registry may have gotten damaged/overwritten during the install??). Safe mode won't work. Nothing works.
I can get to a DOS prompt, which takes me to "X:\~~~" and I don't know what the "X" drive is supposed to represent. I'm cursing myself now for not making a system recovery disk. I have files I'd like to try to get off of here before I do something drastic like a full-blown reformat of the HD.
Is there anything I can do to get past this system recovery loop? Am I going to have to reformat and start over?

Ok, I have looked everywhere, and am pretty certain I do not have a system recovery disk for my Toshiba. However, I did find a few other disks - can you tell me, will a system recovery disk for a slightly older Satellite work? We have another Toshiba Satellite (I think it's an M or N series) that was purchased a few months before this one. Or do I need to have a disk for my exact model? Also, how do I identify a local ASP? I purchased my machine at Best Buy, and they were quick to say they don't have recovery disks and I'd need to call Toshiba. Toshiba told me it'd be up to 10 biz days, and I'm hoping to not have to wait that long...
Thanks for any info again - I do sincerely appreciate all your help...

  • A205-S5804 "Dark Screen" start-up

My A205-S5804 (P/N PSAF3U-0NR00V) starts up with the screen totally dark until it gets to the mouse pointer and "circulating ring", just before the circular Windows logo. Before that there SHOULD BE (which I still see on my wife's unaffected computer - same identical model):
    (1) Toshiba screen, with options at bottom bar to use F2  or F12
    (2) copyright symbol and "Windows" , and below that a small bar moving repeatedly left to right
Item (1) should come from BIOS (someone please correct me if I'm wrong)
Item (2) should NOT be part of BIOS
Further, when I try to use F2 or F12 at startup, the screen stays dark, the computer reaches a stage of not doing anything (disk light off) and remains in that state.
I did recntly flash a newer BIOS (version 2.50 for this model, 12/08/2008, file name sa200f3v250.exe), but I think the dark screen start-up began some time before that. The newer BIOS appeared to get in successfully. Also note that a bad BIOS would not explain the missing item (2) above.
    Where do I start?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

After typing out this long query, I realized this looked like a case of BIOS not handling my video, but Windows doing so (once booted far enough). There is in fact something different about my video. The video is set to drive the notebook screen and the external RGB output (which goes to a flat-screen TV so online streaming video can be watched there). It has been convenient to just leave the notebook set for that video option. When I go back to video driving the notebook only, AND DISCONNECT THE CABLE TO THE TV, the start-up is normal.
Now my question is, is there some way to leave the video set up for the 2 devices, and still get normal start-up?

  • Satellite A205-S7464: How to install Toshiba Common Modules for XP Pro SP2

    Greetings all.
I have a new laptop that came preinstalled with Windows Vista Home Premium as they tend to.
Vista does not run a number of the programs I need to run, I've found, and I really don't like it that much anyway..
I have decided to install Windows XP.
I partitioned the HD and ran the installer to a new partition on the drive with all of the drivers I've collected for XP sleepstreamed into my retail XP Professional disc. This is no problem. I got everything up and going just fine. My only problem now (well, other than some residual issues with the original Vista partition) is that I can't get the proprietary Toshiba utilities going so that I can use for example the FN+ commands, power management options, etcetera.
I have experimented around with a couple of different versions of the Common Modules drivers and other utilities but have of yet been unable to get things moving in the direction I would like them to move.
The main thing really is the control for FN+F6 and F7 (Adjusting brightness), as the monitor on this beast kills a battery.
I've tried Toshiba support, but with no luck.
I know the Vista to XP downgrade is a pretty common move, so if anybody has been there and could give me a little step by step guidance in getting things working I would be forever indebted.
The model is Toshiba Satellite A205-S7464, Part No. PSAF3U-07300V.
Let me know if any other information is necessary.
    Thanks in advance, Jacob

It seems to be a notebook series which were delivered only in the USA and therefore all Toshiba drivers and utilities should be installed from the US site.
This is a Toshiba US driver page:
    http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/su/su_sc_modSel.jsp
Where did you find this Common modules driver?
    > I have experimented around with a couple of different versions of the Common Modules drivers and other utilities but have of yet been unable to get things moving in the direction I would like them to move.
I presume you are not able to install these common modules because you have used wrong version which is not designed and not compatible with your notebook.

  • Unable to install SQL server 2000 and 2005 on Satellite A205-s5831

    Hello everyone.
I Needs some helps from all of you.
I have Toshiba Laptop Satellite A205-S5831.
Its Have Windows Vista Home Premium.
And I am unable to install SQL server 2000 and 2005.
I also Unable to Install Windows XP SP2.
    Problem is SATA driver.
    Plz Help me ...!
    Response me

    Hi
The Windows XP needs a SATA driver if you want to install it on the notebook with SATA HDD controller.
The SATA driver can be found in the Intel Storage Manager.
I would recommend using the nLite program to include a SATA driver into the new Windows XP CD and then to boot from the new created XP CD.
Here you will find all details regarding the nLite:
    http://www.nliteos.com/
    Regarding SQL server issue;
Maybe you will be able to install in on Windows XP. Possibly there is a compatibility issue between the Vista and the SQL server software

  • Satellite A205: Dynadock - How to connect to LCD TV with HDMI to DVI cable

I recently purchased this product and had a problem when connecting it to my LCD TV.
I used a HDMI to DVI cable to connect it to the TV. Only a small portion of the full display shows on the TV.
I have adjusted all setting on the laptop (Satellite A205) but it only adjusts the laptop screen, not the TV.
I also used the adaptor to VGA, plugged it into the computer input on TV, same effect. I can use VGA output on side of laptop to TV ok.
Any ideas on how to adjust dynadock output settings?

First of all it would be interesting to know what dynadock you have exactly; one with DVI port or one with VGA port?
    >I have adjusted all setting on the laptop (Satellite A205) but it only adjusts the laptop screen, not the TV.
You should know that the dynadock has a own built-in graphics controller and video drivers to control the video stream.
Therefore you should change the settings directly in the dynadock settings and not on the laptop!!!

  • Satellite A205: Bluetooth USB dongle will no longer connect to AirCable

I plugged a generic Bluetooth USB dongle into my Satellite A205 and used it for several hours over three days to connect to an AirCable Serial Bluetooth to run my telescope controller. The generic dongle worked after downloading a Toshiba stack.
Each time I restarted the Bluetooth it incremented the COM port numbers.
My telescope controller will not recognize COMs above 20 so I deleted COMs that really were not used.
The Bluetooth USB dongle will no longer connect to the AirCable Serial Bluetooth. *It worked before and will not work today.*
I've tried three different Bluetooth USB dongles including TrendNet, AirCable and the generic.
I cannot connect to the telescope controller's AirCable Serial Bluetooth with any of the dongles.
_*Can anyone suggest a Bluetooth monitor that will work, or suggest a way to get my A205 to work with one of my Bluetooth USB dongles?*_
    Don

I have Vista. I did not download SP1. It did not appear in the Update Manager. My laptop is about 3 months old so I did not want to download the 400+ MB SP1 to a fairly new version of Vista Home Premium.
Here are steps that did work for me. This process is tedious but it worked three times in a row with no failures after scores of failed connection attempts.
*_Getting Bluetooth to Work With Vista and Generic Bluetooth Dongle_*
    1. Power up Bluetooth serial (AirCable).
    2. Start laptop with Vista Home Premium and wait 2 minutes.
    3. Plug in the generic Bluetooth dongle.
    4. Click tray Bluetooth icon to show Bluetooth devices.
    5. Select and remove the existing device.
    6. Unplug and plug in the generic Bluetooth dongle. My Bluetooth COM Port is 6-Outgoing Serial, and 7-Incoming
    7. Add a new connection for the Bluetooth serial.
    8. Start; Control Panel; Device Manager
    9. If COM ports with a higher number than your selected ports (mine are COM 6 and COM 7) exist, do the following:
    - Right-click the port number that is the Output port (Click the Bluetooth icon in the tray to determine which COM number is output and which is input).
    - Let's say for my example that Device Manager Ports shows COM 11 and COM 12, and that COM 11 is output.
    - Right-click COM 11 and select Properties
    - Click the Port Settings tab and the Advanced button
    - Click the Com Port number dropdown list and reassign it to COM 6 (the desired Outgoing COM port).
    - Click OK a couple of times.
    - Now, right-click COM 12 (input), Properties, Port Settings tab, and Advanced button.
    - Reassign COM 12 to COM 10 (OK...), reassign to COM 9 (OK...), reassign to COM 8 (OK...), reassign to COM 7 (OK...). (You are clearing out unused COM ports 10, 9, and 8.)
    - Click OK a couple of times.
    - Click the tray Bluetooth icon and remove the existing device.
    - Pull the Bluetooth USB dongle out of the computer and reinsert it.
    - Click the tray Bluetooth icon, search for and add your Bluetooth serial device.
At this point your remote Bluetooth device should have a good connection.
    +++++++++++++
Thank you everyone for your input. It is too bad that it is so difficult to use a Bluetooth dongle with Vista but such is life.
    Don

  • Re: Satellite A205-S5825 - DV Camcorder not recognized by firewire

I have a Satellite A205-S5825 and I cannot get it to recognize my Canon DV camcorder connected by a firewire cable.
The same camera works perfectly with my desktop PC. My wife also has a Satellite, an A215 and this does not recognize the camcorder either. All 3 computers are running XP service pack 3.
Can anyone throw any light on this? I would really like to use my laptop for video editing as my desktop is at another location.
    Thanks in advance
    600

It is really strange. I would like to know if this will happen with factory settings.
I have camcorder too and I have tested it now with Vista preinstalled P200 and WXP preinstalled Satellite Pro P300.
On both notebooks the cam is recognized properly and I was able to record short movie.
I really don't understand what is wrong there but try to remove firewire port from device manager and restart your notebook.
The firewire port will be recognized and installed automatically. After doing this connect your cam and test it again.

  • Satellite A205 - Start up and battery removal/insertion

My Satellite A205-S4607 will be two years old in May 2009 (purchased at a retailer).
Have been reasonably satisfied with the equipment, but in the last few months several times I've had start up issues. But the solution so far, luckily, turns out to be simple. I just take out and reinsert the battery and start up performs as usual. Is this a warning sign of something? This has happened about three times over a span of 4 or so months. It just happened again today. Is this normal?
I do carry it with me more than I used to so that could be a contributing factor with the movement, but don't see why it would be working itself loose.
After all, laptops were designed to move around.
Thanks in advance for anyone's input!

If the laptop doesn't post from time to time there could be and issue with the mainboard shorting out.
By re seating the battery this fixes the issue then it seems to be a short somewhere on the mainboard.
If its an intermittant issue then its possible theres something loose, maybe ram needs re seating.
Have you dropped your laptop in the past? Not enough to damage it, just a little bit to dislodge ram.

My Satellite A205-S4777 is showing a problem with the network adaptor and the mass storage controller.
Can anyone provide a link to a driver download to it?
I have tried the automatically search for software but cant find it.

    Hi mate,
since your machine is from USA, you should refer to the american drivers download site: http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/su/su_sc_home.jsp
Please search there for the drivers you need because you wont find any drivers on the european sites.
