Satellite A210-128: PCMCIA (PC-Card) or ExpressCard (54mm)??

Hey,
I have a Satellite A210-128 Notebook.
The product specifications (Toshiba Homepage + handbook) say it has an
"*Express Card*" - Slot
But "Everest" tells me I have a "TI PCI84x2 (Typ: *PC Card (PCMCIA)*, 32-bit)
*What I really have PC-Card or ExpressCard (which version?) ?*

Background: I am thinking to buy a USB3.0-Extension card...but I guess it would only possible for a real Express-Card-Slot, and no "PC-Card (PCMCIA)....

I have just recieved the answer of a Toshiba-Support-Request:
+"Your Satellite A210-128 Notebook is equipped with an ExpressCard Slot."+
So I guess I can be sure having this and forget the Everest-Report (saying PCMCIA/PC-Card)?!

The whole issue is really mysterious. In my opinion there are two options;
Either your have used and tried to install a wrong graphic driver or there is something wrong with your GPU chip.
Are you 100% that you tired an right graphic driver from the Toshiba European driver page?
If yes, then I recommend contacting the ASP in your country because this could be really an hardware issue.

Satellite A210-128 swichting-off after about 30 minutes

Hi, I have a problem with my notebook A210-128, it switches off after about 30 minutes of working and after it does not start for about 3 minutes.
When I play some new game in high details it switches off faster. I assume that it can heat up, because the base of my notebook becomes hotter quicker than it was before.
How can I check the temperature of my processor to exclude this reason or is it something else?

The notebook gets too hot and so it turned off by itself.
You should always ensure that there is enough free space around the notebook. This is important for good air circulation.
So dont use a notebook in bed, couch or something else because this not good for the air circulation.
In your case I would clean the internal cooling fan. You dont need to disassemble anything. To clean use compressed air spray and could blow away the dust from the cooling ventilator.
If it doesnt help you should go to an ASP (authorized service provider) and let check your notebook.

I have a Satellite A210-16F laptop with a Ati Mobility Radeon HD 2600 graphic card...
After checking my device manager i found out that my graphic drivers are from 2007 which can't be good :S but for the life of me i can't find the right drivers anywhere... if you check out the screenshot, you will see that the drivers are from 2007 and after i click on "update driver" and then "search automatically for updated driver software" it never finds anything and tells me that my drivers are up-to-date :SS Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!
Oh, also, my OS is Vista Home Premium (32-bit)

One solution for your problem is, that if you upgraded your OS to Windows 7, there's a new driver for Mobility Radeon 2000 Series (Catalyst 9.6) on the ATI/AMD driver page(that one with the OS selector etc..). It's states however, that these drivers are for 7's beta releases only, but if you install them even on regular Win7 system, they're working fine and after a while an update for them appears in Windows update(It should update to Catalyst 9.7). I run them almost a week without a problem and it even resolved my Mass Effect 2 crashing issue.
One problem remains though that the driver is only for Win7(when you select Vista, it's really annoying: "Please contact your device driver manufacturer..." for you.).
It's truly more annoying than sad, that Toshiba, although in the Win7 supported laptop models list states that P200/A200 series are supported, the only thing supported after all seems to be a bluetooth module(since only that one got a new driver). So far there was no problem with an old display driver for 2600, but recently the new Mass Effect 2 crashes almost randomly during loading stages(with error log in computer management stating that the faulting module is ATI(anything here), and I only expect more such errors/problems with new games to come, because almost 2 years old drivers! So I think guys in Toshiba software engineering should really wake up.

Satellite A210 1AP - The display is not turning on

I had a problem about a mounth ago with my Toshiba Satellite A210-1AP, just once the display did not turn on. Computer was working, all lights were on. That light that shows reading from HDD was blinking, working as normal, but with display still turned off. So I turn it off, and next time I tried it was warking as usual, with display turned on, he asked if i want to start windows normaly, or in safe mode (like when it is restarted unnaturally). Then worked normaly for few days, then it happened again. At that time I couldn't go to the service (computer was on warranty, and how to prove that something happens sometimes if it do not happened there). So I continued to use it, and as time passes by the problem was more often. Then I decided to go to service.
Guy in the service said that the problem is motherboard, so he changed motherboard, and it took about month for him to do it, and then when I called he said me that it isn't working still. And maybe he has to change all parts, display, graphical card is maybe problem, that he didn't saw problem like that...
So my question is do you know what the problem could be? And the second question is can I demand from him, as it passed 30 days to give me new computer instead changeing all parts on it?

I have my notebook now back, but there is another question, you said that video card is on board on A210-1AP? Because tehnician said taht he ordered new one, after replacement of mother board...
I also doubt that he lied me with some more things, so I would like to know some things. Is there any toshiba policy that the broken parts have to be send back to toshiba? Because in law there is one paragraphf that sais that he have to give me back also broken parts.
And one more.
Do changed parts have extended waranty? For example I bougth laptor before 1,5 year, so he changed motherboard. Do the motherboard have waranty 2 more years or just half year as other non changed parts.
There is also paragraph about it in serbian law, but tehnician said that I don't have more waranty, and if it dies again (hopefuly not) that I can call inspection...

How to connect external 24'' display to a Satellite A210?

I am using an lcd tv as an external display for my satellite a210, connected with a vga cable. But I cannot just use the external monitor, I can only use both at the same time. Also, the maximum analysis I can get by using them at the same time is 1280x800, because that's the laptop's highest analysis I guess. Are there any drivers I need to download or is it something I can't resolve?

Generally speaking you can switch between the devices using the FN + F5 key combination.
It should be possible to output the video signal on both devices (notebook & external screen) and only on external screen.
I think you should change the external screen resolution to a lower level
As mentioned above, the 24 supports high pixel rate and I would reduce this to the same like supported by notebook screen.
PS: you can also update the graphic card driver if an newer is available.

How to uninstall the program "Utilities" from the Satellite A210

How can I unistall the program "Utilities" from the Satellite A210. In the control panel I can uninstall the program "Value Added Package" but not "Utilities".
With the A210 I can't work with the FN keys and on a German Toshiba help website I have found this information:

After clean OS you must install all necessary drivers and Toshiba tools and utilities. Just when everything is installed properly you will have well working operating system. Problem is that you cannot install all this in some alphabetical sequence but following right installation order.
I don't have Satellite A210 and cannot offer you exact installation order but it must be something like this one:

As far as I know you cannot remove one single application. What I always do is to remove whole VAP and after notebook restart I start VAP installation again but not as standard installation. I use custom installation. There you can choose which application should be installed and which not.
To be honest I have very good experience with Win7 installation and if everything is installed properly you should be able to use flash cards with FN button.

How to get pics and videos from mobile phone to Satellite L450D-128

I have a Satellite/Satellite L450D series/Satellite L450D-128 and i am a bit thick, i also have a samsung 5600 which i want to get pics/vids from - tried to connect my phonebut it couldnt connect the driver and seemed to be having lots of problems.
I thought maybe i could bluetooth from my phone to my lap top but dont think it has blue tooth?? Does it?? and if not can it??

For my mobile phone I bought an external card reader. So I can copy the files from mobile phone to computer and backwards.
It costs maybe 10 Euro and therefore no additional driver is necessary! :)

when I boot my windows there is the startup screen. After this my screen turns off and can't login to windows.

Please dont understand me wrong but I think you are on the wrong way.
Device drivers (graphic card, LAN, etc.) have to be installed within running system (i.e: Windows OS, etc)
Im sure; driver isnt the problem if nothing is visible on the screen.
First of all I would recommend you to connect the notebook to an external screen/monitor just to check if something would be visible on the 2nd display.
But just one question: did you try to boot the notebook using a bootable disk (windows installation disk, Toshiba recovery disk or similar???).
Maybe the Windows system is muddled up and therefore you are not able to boot up the system? In my opinion you should test this option.

Does Satellite A210 supports S/PDIF for 5.1 sound?

Can someone help me?
MY laptop has 2 jack connectors for sound (Satellite a210) ... one is mic in and one is headphones.
If you take a look at the attached picture ( http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=91cpoo&s=5 ) i have a DIGITAL JACK hdmi.... (i dont have a hdmi conn on my laptop)
My question is... this jack is s/pdif?
I'm asking this because I would be very happy if i can connect my 5.1 logitech Z5500 to my laptop and have a 5.1 sound.
Now i have only stereo sound.

The screenshot which you have posted in your posting shows the audio properties of HDMI port! This has nothing to do with the headphone jack or microphone jack
Of course many or some notebooks are equipped with a headphone jack which would provide an additional SPDIF (digital) audio output but this has nothing to do with HDMI.
However, if you want to know if your notebooks headphone jack supports s/pdif then check your user manual. There should be mentioned if headphone jack provide an digital audio output too.
PS; What A210-xxx do you have exactly?

I have bought Toshiba Satellite L500-128 and have allready 300N Router Wireless Sitecom
The new laptop has an wireless lan card with's supported 802-11 Draft-N
I don't know buth the speed of my new laptop is continue around 48/54 Mbps
I have an second computer also with an wireless card 802-11 Draft-N supported and works fine with speed more than 136Mbps
I have tried serveral things to change in the configuration of the wireless card buth without any results.
Does anybody have an idea? How to fix this?

Check if Wlan card use the Draft N standard.
You can choose this in device manager -> WLan card properties -> Advanced tab
As far as I know the WLan card is Intel 5100AGN.
Check if an WLan driver update would help too

You can try omega drivers, they will work. But they won't fix the problem.
I have a satellite A210-16g with same graphic card and same problems, and it's starting to be frustrating. Ive searched for the solution, but it seems there isn't any, and Toshiba is keeping it quiet....lots of people have the same problem when they downgraded form vista to xp....
In my case 2 things happen:
Laptop freezes and sometimes there is BSOD (ati2dvag caused an inifitne loop problem etc.) mostly it just freezes and only thing to do is to turn off laptop, and again turn it on.

Pictures are taken with camera because in screenshots after restart, nothing is shown...everything is normal
And this happened 1day after new install of windows xp, now week after installation laptop started to freeze, twice today...

Registry Patches for Satellite A210

Hello,
I have found two registry patches for the Satellite A210-103:
- version 1.0 for "Storage Configuration Patch"
- version 1.2 for "Registry Patch for Devices and Printers"
Does anybody know what this registry patches are doing and how can I verify the registry that this patches are installed.

As the name said these registry patches updates some of the Win 7 registry entries.
The registry patch 1.0 changes the entries for Storage Configuration (HDD, SD card Etc)
The registry patch 1.2 change some entries which are responsible for some USB devices
This is all what I know about these patches
However, if you have installed Win 7 then it would be advisable to execute both patches.

Satellite A210-17X - PSAFGE-03600LFR - DVD-RAM upgrade

I currently have a Toshiba laptop Satellite A210-17X - PSAFGE-03600LFR, after upgrading RAM and HDD, I would need some help to upgrade my DVD-RAM. The original MAT****A (Panasonic) DVD-RAM UJ-870 is not working any more because the laser cell seems to be damaged, it will not recognize any disk whether CD-ROM or DVD and firmaware update provided by Toshiba Europe Support did not change any thing.
Because I need to replace it, I would rather like to install a more recent, more performant, quieter model, but I am having difficulties finding such replacement.
First of all, the front "faade" of the current drive is smaller on the right hand-side than on the left hand-side and most model I find have a rectangular "faade" - i.e. both sides have the same size so it will not fit in the laptop. Is that "faade" removeable so that I could take that of the old drive off and put it on the new one?
Would someone be able to provide me with some help in choosing the correct replacement drive?

Yes, thank you for asking, I found out how to remove/install DVD-RAM on my laptop. I upgraded the HDD which was getting unhealthy. I upgraded RAM and I also opened the laptop case so that I could get to the fan and clean it.
I will let you know how I am doing once I will have purchased and installed a new DVD-RAM. Although I am still wondering whether it is worth it. I know that it is very practical in many cases, but I have learned to use USB bootable Flash drive since my BIOS Firmware upgrade allows me to boot from such devices.
Otherwise, I do not really use CD-ROM/DVD-RAM anymore, NAS, external HDD, Mem sticks, SDHC cards, etc.. are so much more convenient to use.
Would you mind sharing your point of view on this?
