Satellite A210-151: more fan activity after BIOS update to version 1.80

Hi folks,
I have noticed a that the fan activity has changed dramatically since I have updated my BIOS to V1.80. Every minute or so, sometimes even more often, the fan starts to work, going from what I believe is probably level 3 of 4 to level 2 and then stops.
This is getting kind of annoying, especially when Im not working, and theres only the internet (firefox) wokring on the machine.
Anyone else notice that ?
Thanks, Mike

In addition to my previous entry, my BIOS was 1.70 so it is not related to the BIOS version.
I've googled for similar symptoms and I only found such issue on Intel based A200's.
In fact this is only one discussion with the issue on AMD processor.
My A200 fan worked in relation to the temperature. 28C - off, and 33C - on (SpeedFan).
When I completelly covered air intake at the bottom side, it remained constantly runnig as the temperature was 29-30C.
Nevertheless, this was the most comfortable usage of the notebook :-) as the fan noise was significantly lower and at constant rate you can get used to it.
It is less annoying then permanent switch on/off :-)
After playing a while with air intake covering I found that lower fan noise can be obtained with covering at least 80% of intake.
So you can still leave 20% of the intake opened for air which should be safe for working with laptop in normal load.
Of course, you should monitor processor temperature!

  • Satellite C850 - Low fan speed after BIOS update

    Hello,
So I have my Satellite C850-PSKCEV bios updated around 6 months ago to version 6.80 (I bought my laptop in 2012), and since then the fan is running at low speeds and will never run full speed as before, and as a consequence the laptop overheats prematurely and very fast, and even when the laptop is not in use but left running it does overheat, also gaming is not even possible as any game that I run (even with the lowest settings) gets a fps drop every 5 seconds and lasts 5-10 seconds which renders even the lightest games unplayable, also I am afraid of the continuous overheat to damage the laptop's internal components.
I did clean the fan and vents from dust and there is not even one particle inside them and yet the fan won't run fast and I can't feel but very slight airflow from the vents as apposed to the strong one before this problem.

Have you tried to change cooling method settings and set it to maximum performance?

  • More graphic memory after BIOS update on Satellite A110-195

After Instell BIOS Update from 1.30 to 1.60 avaliable crahpic memory: 64 Mb, must be 128 Mb.
It after update or it my mistake?

Wait a moment. As far as I know in specification for this Intel 945GM is written that this card can use between 8MB-128MB for video operations. I am not 100% sure but I believe you can not force this card to use fix value and it works automatically and used memory depends on available RAM and also on intensive video operations. Am I right?
If you start system properties how many RAM is shown under General tab?
BTW: BIOS downgrade is not possible. It can be done just by service using special tools they have. Because of that you will never be able to find old BIOS versions on download page.

  • Satellite A100-TA7 hangs at POST after BIOS update

Being kind of tech swavy, i know my chances are very low in fixing this but here goes.
I decided to update the BIOS on my Toshiba Satellite A100-TA7(PSAA8C-TA702C) laptop to the latest version available (6.00).
I did this because I've heard of people have better luck in making their FN keys work in linux with the newer BIOS.
The installation finished normally(went through all the steps, wrote all 21 blocks) without any errors but after rebooting I noticed that it now hangs at the Toshiba logo screen.
The blue progress bar moves twice but then gets stuck about 1/3 of the way through.
In order to see how bad the damage was, I pressed esc at the beginning of POST and saw that it gives me the right BIOS Version (6.00).
It also tells me that "No TPM or TPM has problem", and "2039M System RAM Passed."
It then displays the message "Press <F2> to enter SETUP" (which makes the message disappear, but otherwise does nothing.
If i press f2 during the Toshiba logo screen, it replaces the message at the bottom with "Please wait" and nothing happens even after waiting an hour.
(Which makes sense because before the whole blue bar would load before going into the CMOS settings). The thing is that the BIOS doesn't really "freeze", It just gets stuck at one specific place (I know this because i can press F2 even after waiting an hour and the laptop does respond to it by displaying "Please Wait".
Anyone have any more things i could try? Thank you
PS. I tried clearing the CMOS too. (By holding the power button for like 60 seconds without any power source <--- I'm not sure if this is how you do it on this laptop so any info would be nice). And I'm also 100% sure i chose the right BIOS update and followed every single instruction.

    Hello Greg
I am very happy to hear you have solved this BIOS issue but I must react because of some your statements here. I do not have timet to do some research but let us write about some facts. I use Toshiba notebooks over 10 years now and I think I can say that I am pretty experienced with all this stuff.
Toshiba sold hundred thousand laptops and I can really not imagine that this can be some common problem because, I presume, all offered stuff on download page is tested. If 0.5% cases are the same it does not mean there is general problem. What you think how many people use the same BIOS update as you? I guess thousands of them.
About Linux support I can say the same as Eldorado. Sorry but I am afraid you do not understand what the support is. Just some facts:
Toshiba does not offer drivers for Linux OS
Toshiba does not offer tools and utilities for Linux
Toshiba does not offer BIOS for Linux
Toshiba does not test anything relevant for Linux functionality (very important for support)
With short words: there is nothing for Linux. If you can install Linux successfully and use it without problems you are very lucky guy and be happy, but there is definitely no support.
If you exchange experiences with other people it is really good and you should do this in the future but if you hear something and later something goes wrong it is your problem.
At the end I can say that this is user-to-user forum and you should be happy if someone here want to discuss about your problem and try to help. If you are not satisfied with comments or opinions it is your problem and if you want professional opinion you know very well where you can get it.
    Have a nice day.

  • Satellite Pro L100 does not run after BIOS update

Ok the machine is a Toshiba Satellite Pro L100 PSLA4. Problem occurred during a BIOS update from the official Toshiba website. I downloaded the zip file, extracted it and activated the .exe file inside.
The window opened by the .exe was a BIOS flashing program, the .exe also simultaneously wrote a new BIOS file to a temporary folder.
When tried to use the program all I got was an error saying that it couldn't find the new BIOS to input.
I tried again only to get the same error. I then left the laptop for several minutes and when I returned, I found a blank unresponsive laptop.
By unresponsive I mean an obvious lack of BIOS functions i.e. power LED's not changing when plugging in of unplugging from the mains and the fact that I had to pull the battery out to turn the machine off. When the machine is turned on now all it does is check the drives and restarts (no display, no beeps)
    What do I do?
The first thing that came to mind was to reset the BIOS.
One problem, I can't find the RTC battery or a jumper switch.

I have at least found out why this happened, the program obtained from Toshiba automatically 'attempts' to upgrade the BIOS upon activation. This means that the program engaged with errors without my authorisation. I don't find this very impressive from a company as large and powerful as Toshiba.
Also it may be possible to fix myself if the BIOS installation instructions made sense, extracting the .zip file does not create three sub folders and pressing the F12 key does not start the laptop.

  • Satellite L650 - Touchpad won't disable after BIOS Update

    Hello,
    I've recently got a new laptop, a L650-1CN,
I run the various kinds of software from Toshiba, and one of them is Tempro,
It shows me messages when a new update is available.
Today I got saw the message that a new BIOS update v.1.80 was available.
I downloaded it, and installed it. After installing my laptop shut down. Then I booted it again.
But after a few minutes I noticed that my touchpad didn't disable itself anymore.
I usually use a logitech wireless mouse.
Now I'm wondering if I should do a system recovery and not install this BIOS update, or find another solution to fix this. Because it's really annoying.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi buddy,
Usually the touchpad disable it automatically if an external mouse is connected but only if you enable this option in touchpad settings.
I also use an external mouse from Logitech and have activated this option. You can find it in control panel > mouse. Go to tab Device Settings and mark the option Disable internal pointing device when external USB pointing device is attached.
    I hope it works :)

  • Satellite Pro L300 will not boot after Bios update

    Help please.
I have just formated a Satellite Pro L300 laptop.
I used all the updated drivers from Toshiba and all went very well.
I then updated the bios with the latest version.
After doing this the laptop will not boot but just keeps scrolling through the start menu and no matter what option I choose it just keeps doing the same thing.
    Any ides welcome

    Hi
I used the Microsoft installation disk but just keep getting to the same stage until the blue screen appears. I have tried different installation disks and also changed the hard drives as well. I can do everything in bios, change boot device enable or disable devices but that is it. I have tried a few times to instal windows but it just stops at the same point saying windows is stopping instal to protect the system. I fear the bios update has done some permanent damage as I cant get past the dreaded blue screen. Thanks anyway

  • Re: Satellite A200-1AX doesn't boot after BIOS update

    Hello all!
I wanted to install XP on a Satellite A200-1AX.
So I tried to update the Bios to the version that supports XP.
When I tried to install it, Vista crashed and now the laptop won't even turn on.
When I keep the power button pressed, the fan wheezes but nothing else happens.
I think the BIOS is gone or corrupted.
    What do I do?
Thanks in advance for any help!

    > When I keep the power button pressed, the fan wheezes but nothing else happens. I think the BIOS is gone or corrupted. What do I do?
What to say buddy. Looks like something went wrong during the BIOS update procedure Possibly the BIOS was not written correctly and the ROM module must be flashed again using a special procedure and tool.
In such case you can do nothing you have to contact the ASP in your country for a fix!!!
Dont waste a time and ask an authorized service technician for a help.
    Good luck and best regards

  • Re: Satellite X200-20F - Slow frame rate after BIOS update

    Hello!
I have a Satellite X200-20F bought about 4 years ago. I changed the bios into 2.70 recently and I got a problem when I play games:
The performance of the laptop decrease suddently after a couple of minutes of playing. For exemple, when I play +Fable 3+ or +Duke Nukem Forever+, the framrate goes to 10-15fps from 40-50fps. I need to restart the game to fix that, but even that, the problem come back...
Before I had the 1.40 version of the BIOS and no problems.
    What should I do?
    Do you have any advises?
    Thanks in advance,
    Best reguards.

    Hi Crowzer,
Im wondering that you have done a BIOS update if you had no problems before
I can only imagine that a BIOS setting is different now. So I would recommend loading the default settings in BIOS, then save & exit.
Also try updating your display driver. You can find the latest version on official Toshiba page too.

  • Satellite L40 (PSL48E) - Doesn't reboot after BIOS update

    Hi,
My problem is that I update the BIOS and after that the machine does not restart. ( BIOS corrupt ? )
After the BIOS update (Satellite L40 PSL48E) the machine reboot and with the F2 key I open the BIOS setup.
I check the BIOS version ( 5.50 ) and exit the BIOS setup. The machine must be reboot now.....
No Way, the machine does not restart . No screen only the powerled lights-up.
Is there anything I can to fix it on my own like a BIOS reset ?
    Thank you for cooperation.

This is strange because after the BIOS update you could go into the BIOS.
However, try to remove the battery and AC/DC adaptor. Wait one hour and then put the battery in and connect the AC/DC adaptor. Try it again.
If it doesnt work there is something wrong with the BIOS or hardware and should be checked by a notebook technician.

  • Satellite C660D-104 does not boot after BIOS update

    Hello,
I installed the latest bios on my computer Satellite C660D-104 but it has not rebooted.
Where is the place to do a reset?
Under the ram I have no triple x or B499
I can not find, can you help me please?
    Thanks,

BIOS update failed this means that ROM module (where the BIOS is stored) isnt flashed properly.
As far as I know such issue could be resolved by flashing the ROM module again using Toshiba BIOS crisis disk.
I guess Toshiba authorized service provider own such crisis disk and could reflash the ROM

  • Satellite A105 Shift Keys stop working after BIOS update

I have a stack of laptop boards from the A105 series (Intel chipset) that I received with bad BIOS's. Two worked, and I updated the BIOS's on them to fix CPU compatibility issues. After that, the shift keys stopped working, and pressing Shift-A causes the power light to dim. Reverting to ANY previous version BIOS, whether through the Windows program, CD, or Crisis Recovery floppy (magic key is "F", not "B", "Esc", or "U"), does not fix the keyboard problem.
To make things more confusing, I did notice that the one single BIOS that seems to actually correct the problem is version 1.50, which I haven't seen available for any Tecra A7 or Satellite A100/A105, except a couple A100's, but the BIOS file is much too small and can't be loaded.
Does anyone have any idea why these Intel-based boards are doing this? Or does anyone know where I can get a usable version 1.50 BIOS?
For the sake of this post, please consider my skill level to be high. (In other words, I would be thankful for people trying to help with "Replace the keyboard", but I have about a dozen keyboards, all of which I have tried, and all of which work on other laptops. Additionally, if you have just a theoretical solution, I'm definitely open to hearing it. Also, if a Toshiba tech would like to reply, I would very much appreciate it!)

Hi, thank you for your help.
Some motherboards were not in chassis when I got them. Is there a place the PSAAxx model number would be written on the boards?
Four PSAA8U (Two A105-S4334 and Two A105-S4014) - Intel Chipset, fingerprint reader. Tried BIOS Versions 1.40, 1.70, 2.00, 5.10, 5.60, 5.90, and 6.00. Shift keys do not work on either one.
    Two PSAA2U (A105-S2091 and A105-S2031) - ATi Chipset. BIOS versions 1.50, 1.80, and 2.30. Keyboard works.
Another PSAA8U (A105-S4184) - Intel Chipset, no fingerprint reader. BIOS version 6.00. Keyboard works.
I noticed that so far all of the models with fingerprint readers have the problem. All of the ATi Chipset boards are working fine, but they have significant processor limits. I am in the middle of updating the BIOS in another Intel one using a Crisis Rescue Disc, so after that finishes I will try disconnecting the fingerprint reader to see if it has an effect.
I don't think the keyboard controller is faulty, because these boards all failed on the same day. I have tried updating the BIOS using WinPhlash, Phlash16 in DOS, the install CD, and a Crisis Recovery Disk. I set the defaults in the BIOS almost every time, and I also have tried holding the power button for 60 seconds with the power cord unplugged and the battery removed (as some people have suggested.)
The shift keys don't work in DOS, Linux, Windows, or even in the BIOS. I test it in the BIOS by using Tab to cycle through the fields in time of day, then Shift-Tab to cycle backwards. This works with a USB keyboard, and it also works on the ATi chipset models and the Intel chipset models that are still working.
Thank you for your reply. (-:

  • Satellite M60 will not boot up after BIOS update through windows

    Hi all,
I was updating my bios on my M60 with the latest bios version and I was following the windows flashing procedure (the recommended one) and it blue screened and dumped. Now the laptop wont boot, wont even post. Just a big dead brick :(
I'm fairly proficient with hardware (I'm a software engineer) but I do not know how to reflash a laptop when this sort of thing happens. Is there a trigger bios reset on board? Is there anything I can do my self? If I take it back to my dealer how likely is it they will be able to reflash the bios in house? (Its a fairly large dealer in the Toronto area)
This being a work system I need the solution that has the smallest time impact - cost is not too big an issue.
    Any help would be grand,
    thanks in advance.

    Hello Kristan
According to your problem description I presume the BIOS chip is damaged and unfortunately you can not do much alone. Please contact Toshiba service and explain them the situation. They will explain you everything you must know and you can talk with them about costs and the time they need for notebook repairing.
    Bye

  • Satellite A200: Some devices stoped working after BIOS update

I recently updated my BIOS to V2.60 on my Sat A200
but ever since i apdated the BIOS some of the hardware components stoped working.
So i decided to use the product recovery CD but it wont work anymore.
Each time during its loading stage the system crashes and i get a blue screen mentioning a file called CLFS.SYS as the root of the problem
Is there a solution for my problem?

    Hi
What Sat A200-xxx do you have exactly?
From my experience there are different BIOS versions for different operating system.
The Vista and XP needs different BIOS!
But I wonder why the Toshiba recovery disk does not function anymore? ?:|
Usually you should be able to recover the system no matte what BIOS has been installed.
Did you try to format the HDD firstly using another disk for example like Win XP?
    Check this!
I think you should format the HDD again and then should try to recover the notebook using the Recovery disk

  • Satellite L650 doesn't work good after BIOS update 2.40

    Hi there
I have a L650 Psk1je yesterday i updated my bios from 2.20 to 2.40 and since then my laptop doesn't work good
can someone please tell me how to downgrade my bios to 2.20 again
    Thank you

BIOS downgrade can be done only using an traditional BIOS version
Such versions are not available for download.
You can download only the latest win-based BIOS.
But why you say it does not work properly?
    Whats wrong?
