My Microsoft Works 9 that came installed on my laptop is freezing about a minute when you open the word processor. The spreadsheet and task launcher open normally. Can anyone help me?

I am sorry, I forgot to say that I deleted works. Then I reinstalled it again. Can I just reinstall the works program from the recovery cd to the original program?

Hi. I recently purchased a Toshiba Satellite A350D (PSALEC-005004). It has a 64 bit processor running vista home premium 64 bit. I have never been able to successfully burn a cd or a dvd. I have tried nero 7, 8 and 9, along with Roxio Easy Media Creator 10, along with a few other various software. Nero ends up in it haulting around 10%, then eventually saying that the burning process has failed, resulting in me either having to turn the computer off to remove the wasted disc or if im using my external burner i have to turn it off then back on. When I use Roxio it seems like its going to burn until the end, where it seems to hault again. What am I doing wrong or what can I do to fix this problem?

Okay, I tried burning a CD and DVD using Vista's built-in software, and it says this after attempting: "There was an error burning the disc. The disc may no longer be usable." I have no clue as to why the computer will not let me burn using any program. I have tried using my external Sony DVD burner that works on my 32 bit system, and it wont work on this 64 bit machine either. Any suggestions as what to try next?
Also, whenever it decides to quit burning, the burner seems to keep going and wont stop unless I shut the computer off (for the internal burner) or Turn off the power to the external burner. It also disappears from the list under the "Computer (My Computer)" section.

Satellite A305 running windows vista home premium...Cant get sound out of headphones anymore

for the last 2 months i lost sound in my headphone connection. even when i insert the jack in u can still hear it from the outside.

Have you checked the HP Website and Microsoft Support websites to see if they have any solutions to your problem? Since there could be multiple things causing this, I would check at the places I mentioned first and see if their knowledge base contains an answer.

i have been facing the same issue for the past few weeks.i have a toshiba satellite pro with windows vista home premium.
contacted tech support at adobe.they suggested inactivating firewall and antivirus programs. made no difference.
a google search revealed that a few others have been facing the same issue with no clear solution.there was some discussion about this being linked to windows vista but i am not sure.
please do let me know if you find a solution.

I can't synchronize my iPod's with my iTunes software (Windows Vista Home Premium) due to problems with the access authorization / rights for this operation

I'd like to ask you something:
I'm trying to synchronize all my iPod's (I have as many as 4 iPods: 2 iPod touch a 8 GB each and 2 iPod classic a 160 GB each) with my iTunes software (Version 11.3.1 which is installed on a Windows PC (Windows Vista Home Premium)). Unfortunately, the iTunes software refuses to run the command "synchronize with the iPod connected" regarding each and every iPod I have. iTunes just declares:
Synchronizing is impossible because I wouldn't hold the access authorization / rights for this operation.
I uploaded the songs at issue to my iTunes folder from CD's (all songs are in AAC format now).
What is this access authorization, why was something like that invented and what can I do to get it?
How do I have to proceed in detail?
What would it cost?
I am brand new here and have never ever made a post in any support community anywhere in the world in my life. Well, and I am not excessively knowledgeable about the particular computer or mac language but I know the very basics or can find out about them.
Anyways - can you help me please?

I have windows vista home premium and all other iTunes worked on my laptop, I downloaded iTunes 10 and now the iTunes will not connect to the Internet. I use Mozilla firefox on my laptop and for some reason it keeps saying the connection timed out and I'm not connected to the Internet when I am. Why isn't iTunes recognizing my web configuration?

It probably has to do with your security and/or browser configuration.
When my laptop crashed last year and I had to get a new one, I dealt with the same thing. First, go to your control panel and select the security section. See if your firewalls are up or not. If they are, turn them off. If you have any software to speed up your browser, that can affect the connection as well. Go into that software and disble/turn it off. If this doesn't work, contact customer support. They have a few other tricks they had me try that worked, but I can't remember them now.

Windows Vista home premium has reverted to old format - how can i fix this?

On Tuesday I turned on my laptop to discover that windows vista home premium had reverted to the old style. I'm using a Toshiba laptop (Satellite). The toolbars are now grey and the circular start logo has been replaced with the old rectangle, the dialogue
boxes are old style too.
I was prompted to install the service pack 2 which I did smoothly but no change and then today I was prompted to install a further 59 updates which I did and after restarting my laptop still no change.
I've ran a virus check and no threats were found. I've also deleted some stuff off my laptop and tried to clear it out but no change.
I'm not very technicallly minded but would really like this fixed. Any suggestions?

You mean the ones like Windows 2000, where windows and dialog boxes have grey backgrounds and dark blue colour in titlebar?
If yes, somehow the Windows theme might have been switched to Windows Classic.
Right-click an empty area on the Desktop > Personalize. Now select Theme under Personalization. In the
Theme Settings window, select "Windows Vista" theme from the dropdown. Click OK to apply the theme.

Cannot open iTunes 8 with Windows Vista Home Premium

Hopefully someone here can help me with my problem. I have a new Ipod Touch that needs itunes 8 to work. I have a new HP PC with Windows Vista Home Premium. The problem I'm having is: itunes & quicktime will download successfully onto my computer, but after download will not open. I receive the error message "itunes has stopped working...A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available". I have tried to open them from desktop & from programs ...will not work. I was using itunes 7 with no problems, but after upgrade to the new version (itunes 8) I started having this problem. Here are a few of the things I have tried so far with help from just about every tech support I could find: uninstall & reinstall itunes (tried this several times..didn't help, but itunes installs successfully each time)...try installing quicktime & itunes separately (didn't help)..disable firewall & virus protection (didn't help)...turn off Data Execution Prevention (DEP) (didn't help)...tried saving software to discs & installing itunes that way (didn't help)...I have updated all of my software including windows vista...I've run virus checks...& pretty much run checks on anything else I could find. I occasionally get the same error message when I try to open Rhapsody, but not every time. I'm thinking of using my backup discs & restoring my computer to factory settings. To do that would be a last resort, but I am getting pretty close to desperate. Does anyone think restoring it would help? If anyone has any ideas for me to try I would really appreciate it. Thanks so much.

You need to to check to see if your Quicktime works normally. Itunes will not work if QUicktime doesn't.
If Quicktime doesn't work, describe what happens with any error message in full.
Go to your control panel and try to start QUicktime preferences. In XP you need to be in classic view to see it, I am not sure about Vista.
Give the full text of any error message.
Have you installed any of the following:
ACE & K-Lite mega codecs package, QT alternative, Storm codec, WinAVI video converter, Mpcstar
If so uninstall them, they are bad news for Quicktime.
Report back with your results.
If Quicktime is OK have you seen the Apple troubleshooting article for launch failure, I guess you have probably done quite a bit of it anyway, but is worth going through it systematically:

Install error #1620 PrPro Windows Vista Home Premium

Install error 1620 when attempting to install CS4 "This installation package could not be opened" (for each component of the software package). Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit, Intel i7 processor. Unable to install any components of PrPro. This is after a clean install of Vista Home Premium (part number x12-24171-01)with discs provided by microsoft.

I would never install a new OS over the top of what is there... wipe/format the hard drive and install fresh
Also, if you have a 64bit computer with more than 4Gig of ram, think about the 64bit version of Win7
CS4 can't use more than about 3Gig of ram, but if the OS can use more to run better... that is what I would do
Just be aware that you should still run CS4 in WinXP compatibility mode, as I posted before

Windows Vista Home edition is not certified platform.
In addition to that, 9i is not certified on vista as a whole.

Adobe Photoshop 7.0 on Windows Vista Home Premium

Today, I tried to install Photoshop 7.0 on my laptop with vista home premium. When Photoshop was almost installed, the setup said he was ready but the setup screen didn't went away. I closed the screen.
when I tried to open Photoshop then, the program starts normal but before you can do something there's a report saying: 'couldn't execute your request because of missing or invalid personalisation-information' (this is not perfect because I tried to translate it from dutch)
So, the program doesn't start. After this, I tried to remove Photoshop from the laptop but he says there's a log error and they can't remove Photoshop.
I have consequently a program that doesn't work and that I can't remove.
Is there a solution?
When I installed Photoshop I used another name than the name of the computer, maybe vista doesn't accept this? Normally, you can do that, but I didn't do something like that on vista. If that's the problem, how can you change that name if the program doesn't start normally?

Why has windows vista home premium disappeared from my computer

I have an hp a6511.uk which I have had for 4 years, it came with windows vista home premium, I did download service pack 2 last year. 2 days ago a window appeared on my screen asking me to activate windows as the copy I had was illegal. I duly entered the correct product key. it was confirmed that my windows was now legal but since all I have is a blank screen. I cannot find microsoft works or anything to do with vista, windows defender will not download, The initial screen comes on as usual & I have my usual shortcuts on screen but that is all. I have tried all forms of recovery but to no avail I feel my only solution is to install the back up cd I made when I first had the computer but I am afraid I may lose some of the software I have installed, has anyone had a similar experience, I have bullguard security.

Hi there Student. I also use Vista on my HP touchsmart PC at home. I checked into the Microsoft forum to find some info about the "disappearing nature of your Vista Home premium" iCons and solutions. If you google your problem statement, you'll see that this is not a new phenomonon. Microsoft forum also has a paper with some fixit tools. Windows Vista Home Premium (64-bit) is slow. Which start-up services should run?

I recently had to use system restore and make a few changes to get my system running again. Ooops. I now have a very slow computer whereas it was working fine before. I haven't recently installed any new software or hardware and suspect that some essential start-up services may have been disabled, stopped or set to manual while some other unused services may have been set to start, automatic or automatic (delayed).
Can someone please direct me to another thread (if available) or list which start-up services should be in which state?

I don't have an IQ818 at the moment, all I have is an IQ506T - from last fall. I had just done a recovery of it.
Note: 1) I did choose to NOT perform automatic updates, 2) I haven't yet configured Norton, and 3) I haven't turned off TouchSmart from running in the background.
This isn't exactly your system, but it would be somewhat close. Your safest bet would be to recover and start over, but here goes with the services listings. Please note its comma delimited - you can look at it better with something like Excel, Works or Open Office.
