Satellite A30-404: How to change options in E-Power Manager

Hi,
I've got a Toshiba A30-404 laptop. I would like to change my powermanagement in the Control Panel. If i open powermanagement i get the message; close powermanagement and open E-power management to change your poweroptions.
As soon as i move the cursor to the tabs of the powermanager, the tabs fade away and i can't change any of the options anymore. I read something about ACPI and BIOS. I would like to know how i can handle this problem?
Is there something i can download on the internet for this, maybe?
Thnx for your help!
Greets Afke

Hello
Every unit is preinstalled with Windows OS. Windows OS has own power management that you can find in Control Panel under POWER OPTION.
Toshiba has designed own utility for power management controlling and the name is TOSHIBA POWER MANAGAMENT UTILITY. You can find it also in Control panel. You can not use both utilities at the same time and in Microsoft power options you can chose power scheme that you want to use (not possible on every notebook model ? all options are grayed out).
Toshiba designed utility gives you more options for optimal power usage and I recommend you to use this utility.
I hope that you understood how it works now and if you have more questions please write again.

    Does anyone know how to?
    Cheers.

    Hey,
Im not owner of Satellite P300 but either you can change this option in BIOS or in display driver. Normally there you have an option to change between PAL and NTSC on S-Video output.

  • Satellite A500-138 - How to change the fan speed?

    Hi,
I have a question how to I can change speed fan on my A500?
I mean with BIOS change power, I dont have advanced option on my BIOS so I cant change that... Any ideas?

    Hi buddy,
You can change the speed fan in Windows Power Management. Therefore Toshiba Value Added Package must be installed but its already installed if you use the preinstalled Windows from Toshiba.
Open the Power Options: Start => Control Panel => Mobile PC => Power Options
Click on Change plan settings and in advanced settings you should see the option Cooling Method. There you can change between 2 different modes.
    Check this!!!

  • T61, WinXP SP2: Windows Power Options vs Thinkpad Power Manager (Standby/LID/etc)

My message is similar to this one:
    http://forum.lenovo.com/lnv/board/message?board.id=T_Series_Thinkpads&message.id=4885
but show clear source of problem.
    So I start...
I have [brand new ] T61 with XP SP2 Russian, installed from R&R disks from Lenovo through Vista Downgrade deal.
    1. I set Windows Power Management (W.P.M.) to:
    - standby when closing lid
    - asks for password after wake up from Anabiosis (standby or hibernate).
    2. Close lid -- notebook go to standby; open lid -- notebook wakes up. Fine.
    3. Close lid -- nothing to do. Open lid - notebook runned a usual, no standby preparations ;(
    4. Go to ThinkPad Power Manager (TP.P.M.) (useful left-click from Big Green Gauge in taskbar) -- all settings looks fine: options, checkboxes etc.
    5. Open W.P.M. -- all settings messed up with random values:
    - "no action" on closing lid
    - "asks for password" checkbox not checked (this field varies through few tests).
    6. Setting up needed options in W.P.M. again, repeat steps 2..3..4 -- nothing changes: W.P.M. saves options for first close lid action, then options messed up.
    ==================================
As I see, ThinkPad Power Manager builds on top of Windows Power Management and overwrites its options on some actions (power up/power down/close lid/etc) in unsmart way, turn off close lid action and bring *potentially security breach* by resetting option for asking password.
    ==================================
My other experience on close/open lid:
    - Very old R43 at my work acts fine. TP.P.M. installed.
    - HP 6820s works fine with standard W.P.M.
    - HP nx7010 works fine with standard W.P.M.
    Software versions:
    - ThinkPad Power Management Driver: 1.44
    - ThinkPad Power Manager: 1.30b
    - All the hotfixes listed in similar topics installed by R&R disks
    ==================================
I... am... VERY... DISAPPOINTED! (c) Jean-Baptiste Emanuel Zorg
Is there a way to fix this TP Power Management suite behaviour?
Should I reinstall some of components?
Can I throw out TP Power Management toys and use WinXP native Power Management, ot there will be some ghosts like "yellow undrivered question marks" in Device Manager?
    Thank you.

I solved this trouble without Lenovo intervention:
    - create clean WinXP Pro setup disk from R&R recovery diskset and install WinXP from it;
    - install all the TP utilities & drivers manually, checking LID Close/LID open actions twice after each program;
    - make full system backup (not R&R way) every 3..4 installed programs.
Entire process spend one week of my time.

  • Changing brightness in gnome-power-manager has no effect

Well it's mostly all in the title. When I change the brightness slider in gnome-power-manager it has no affect on brightness. However the fn key combo for changing the brightness does have change the brightness yet it brings up the volume like dialog for brightness yet no change is registered on the slider (despite brightness increasing). This erratic behavior is not seen in Fedora or Ubuntu so I know it can be made to work. I have a Dell Inspiron 640m.

thunderogg wrote:Maybe a stupid question: Are you a member of the power group? I had a similar problem when I forgot to add my user to the power group.
I am now. But it hasn't fixed anything. I restarted X after adding my user to the group.
However when I started gnome-power-manager as root.  It wouldn't let me access the preference dialog BUT when I increased or decreased the brightness it showed me the proper progressbar indicator. I will restart and see what happens.
    edit:
After a restart all is working well as far as I can tell. Thank you very much for all your help. It seems it was in fact an issue with the groups.

  • Satellite A300D-205 How to change 32-bit to 64 bit

    Hi!
I have Satellite A300D-205, with a Windows 7 32-bit on it. I upgraded to Windows 7 from Windows Vista 32-bit by an upgrade DVD from Toshiba
I need Windows 7 as 64-bit. I have been searching on the net about this, and the only thing I understood, that I should have 64-bit version of Vista. But I bought my laptop with 32-bit Windows Vista and have only Windows Vista RECOVERY DVDs, and the Windows 7 Upgrade DVD.
How can I change 32-bit to 64 bit
    Thanks for attention

    Hi,
To be honest, i don't know how you can do it... I don't think, it's possible to get it from Toshiba. I can only recommend you to get Win 7 64 bit to install. For all win7 drivers have a look:

  • Satellite A50 - BSOD - how to change Wlan card

Hi all, I have the same problem,
i have tried with several HDDs and the same thing, always BSOD before login in window, just once i could stay for some time in windows.
So i decided to install a win XP pro edition, a clean installation, not a recovery system, and it worked fine, i started to install all drivers from the support cd and when i arriver to wireless driver i got agais BSOD, so i tried to reboot switching off the wireless and it works perfect.
So, try to switch off your wireless card and tell here what happens.
Now, a friend of mine gave me his old satellite A50, because he got a new one, and his screen is broken, so i could try to change the wireless card,
Could someone help me how to get to end of the black and white wires that are in the board of the ipw2200??
    Thanks for all.

I have solved my problem, i think so.
    Just problem with driver.
I upgrade the driver version from the toshiba website with the WLAN switched off.
This is because i can login in windows and work perfectly with this. I dont know if your problem is exactly the same.
After i update the driver i switched on the WLAN and i haven't seen the BSOD again, at least in the last five minutes, lol.
I hope this can be helpful for others and sorry for my awful english, bye.

  • How to change options on airdrop?

I updated to OS X Yosemite and tried using airdrop and i searched everywhere on how to use it and i noticed that you can change some options like who can contact you but mine doesn't have that all it has is "AirDrop lets you share instantly with anyone nearby" etc. and nothing else, can someone help?

In addition, I have tried a simple reactivation of my previous plan by attempting to update my payment details. However the "Reactivate Plan" window just keeps spinning, and spinning, and spinning, and spinning. This has been happening for days, and is actually the reason why my plan lapsed in the first place.
It is stunning to me that a company can function when it is unable to take money for its services that people are willing to give. How is that possible?
I am hoping the bug can be fixed or would appreciate if customer service reached me directly to reactivate my subscription.

  • Satellite M30 Pro: how to change the optical drive?

    Hi there,
could anybody please give me a hand on changing/replacing the optical drive on my Satellite Pro M30?
Alas, my drive is a DVD-ROM/CD-RW. I have another one with the capability of burning DVD's (Super-Multi drive from Matsu****a). I just wonder how I could replace them, since it os not possible to easily slide them out?
    Thank you.
    Jan

    Hi
To remove the optical drive you need only to remove 2 screws which are placed at the bottom of the unit on the drive side. Then you can simply slide outward the drive to disconnect it from the connector on the system board.
The drive is placed in the plastic frame. So you need also this frame for a new drive.
To remove the plastic frame from the device you have to remove 4 screws.
    Bye

hi, can anyone help me how to remove and replace the memory of sat A30-921. and also, please give a detailed instruction.
    thank you in advance.

    Hi
There is no much to explain. At the bottom side in the middle there is placed memory cover (fixed with two screws). Remove the cover and you will see 2 slots there. I dont know how much memory has you there but as Stefan said you can use max 2 GB of RAM (2x PC2700 1024MB - PA3313U-1M1G). How to remove memory modules you can see on http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/189/5
