Satellite A300-1IW: HDD access light blinks every seconds

Hello everyone, and sorry for the english, I'm french :)
I bought a Satellite A300-1IW few days ago and suddently (didn't remember exactly when) the HDD access light start to blink every seconds and it continues even after several reboots!
It only does this with Vista; I checked the disk activity with "diskmon" and I saw that even if there were *no* *disk* *writing* *or* *reading* the led continued blinking, so I think it's not related to some vista services (superfetch, indexing...)
I saw on a Microsoft support a similar problem but it was under windows 98 and with old motherborads!
see : Link: [http://support.microsoft.com/kb/138598]
It seems so that it's related to Vista SCSI or DVD quering...
I now that's not critical but it's annoying to have this led blinking all the time
Have any idea? Do you think it could be related to the bios? I want to be sure before touching this because it's always delicate.
Thanks for your help

In my opinion nobody must offer any comment because you already given the answer. This is nothing unusual and definitely no reason for panic.
What to do about it? What you want to do? Sorry but it is really stupid question. I can just offer you one stupid answer. ;) Take some black adhesive tape and cower the LED. ;)

  • Satellite A300-PSAG8E - HDD indicator is blinking even when i do nothing

    these are my problems
    1. My HDD indicator is blinking even when i do nothing ( blinks every half second or so)
    2. When I go somewhere my display turns off and when I move my mouse display turns on but nothing is happening. Everything is standing still (sometimes 20 seconds, sometimes 2 or 3 minutes ) and than he is ready to work.
    Upgraded BIOS to version 2.20
    OS: Windows 7 Ultimate
    Laptop: Toshiba Satellite A300-PSAG8E
    Anyone know the solutions?
    Need help please! Thank you

    > 1. My HDD indicator is blinking even when i do nothing ( blinks every half second or so)
Even if you dont touch the notebook, the HDD is running and different applications access the data. The applications and processes which are running in the background would cause this blinking. Note; this is not a problem!
    > 2. When I go somewhere my display turns off and when I move my mouse display turns on but nothing is happening. Everything is standing still (sometimes 20 seconds, sometimes 2 or 3 minutes ) and than he is ready to work.
Disable the stand by modem and disable the settings which disable the screen while notebook is not in use. This can be done in Windows 7 power management.

  • Qosmio G50 - HDD light flashes every second

    Okay, So here it is,
    I have a Qosmio G50. I have installed WindowXP Pro 64-bit.
I have noticed that the hard drive light flashes every second. I have spent a bit of time looking on the net for a soultion. This led me to download a utility called 'process explorer' from microsoft.
This utility show me that the active process is services.exe. The properties of this service suggest that it handles 'eventlog' and 'plugplay'
I realise that I cannot switch of the event log, nor would I want to.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi
The HDD led flashes always if there any data would be read from or written on the HDD.
The service.exe (Service Control Manager) belongs to the Windows OS and its Microsoft background process which is needed and from my knowledge it cannot be disabled.
    Bye

  • Charge led blinks every second when Laptop NX9420 is turned off.

I have a new battery, in a HP Compaq NX9420 and it can run the laptop for 2 hours isch,
it can also run it on power adaptor only, battery removed, so both battery and charger is ok.
    But,
When turning off the laptop from within windows it goes off and all is normal, after some 3-12 hours the charge led starts to blink amber/orange every second, if I press on/off button nothing happens, I have to remove the battery and slap it in again then it starts,
(after pressing on/off ofc.) the battery is slightly drained what I can see?
checked everything in bios but nothing
tested also HP Battery check and it says all ok.
    Motherboard busted?
RTC battery weak? I still keeps track of time and settings bioswise.

    Hi,
I don't know people call this but we normally call it as an "handsake", all smart batteries should do this way.
    Regards.

  • Satellite A300-GN1 - HDD loads something every time

    Hello,
When pc is loading up to desktop, after ~1minute HDD starts loading something about 15-3-minutes (maybe checking or so).
Also when I finish any game HDD starts loading something.
Maybe someone knew how to fix it?
I thought that it is auto defragment problem, but it doesn't...
    Vista home edition sp1.

I assume there is nothing wrong with your notebook.
I think this is a Vista feature.
Vista always indexes the HDD to improve the desktop search.
If you don't use this feature much you can disable it.
Use the command Services.msc in the start run.
Scroll down to "Windows Search" double click it and mark it as Disabled
But personally I would not recommend disabling this because this would slow down the searching.

  • E 71 - navigation button light blinks every 5 seco...

Is it a bug or a feature? The center light around the five way navigation button goes on every 5 seconds. Is this normal? Can I stop it?

of course you can ! the feature is called "breathing light"
menu > tools > options > modes => when you personalize your mode you have an option called "breathing light" or something like that (my phone is in french sorry !). it is the 9th option of the list, just after "vibrate".

  • Win XP on Satellite A300 - SATA HDD slow - eats CPU

    Hello,
I just got a brand new A300-1lA for my job.
Since we have to install XP rather than Vista, I formatted the beast.
After a long afternoon tracking down every driver, it seems I still have problems.
When I initiate a file transfer between the two disks or from the LAN, the cpu load rises to abnormal levels (50% - 70%).
I suspect there's a problem with the disks controller
Now, for the install to work, I had to go into the BIOS and set the SATA controller to "Compatibility".
    Could this be the source?
    Thanks in advance
OH and BTW : I tried to install the drive manager from the Toshiba Website, but it says my computer doesn't have the required configuration

Just wanting to say that I accidentally deleted a part of my last post.
The answer I found was to reinstall XP, but this time with a custom nlite-ed disk including the Intel drivers.
With that, I could set the SATA controller as "AHCI" rather than "Compatibility" , and XP had no problem. The drive now works perfectly.
So, it seems I had problem with the IDE emulation

  • Satellite A300: Deleted HDD Recovery Files - How to download missing files

    Hi.
I had format a D: partition, where was a HDD Recovery file, now I can't recover my PC.
Easy question, Can I download that file from a Toshiba website or from another site?

You cannot download the HDD recovery files or the Recovery image.
You can order the Recovery DVD from here:

  • Win 8.1 Drive light blinks each second regular as clockwork.

The only cure is to disable the optical drive. Disabling auto play doesn't fix it.
I've never seen this on Win7, but every Win8 from Win8 preview to Win8.1 does this.
I can live with the optical drive disabled, but it still seems a bit bush league.

    Hi,
I agree with Noel, you may need to update the BIOS and chipest drivers for that this is an old PC.
And I think some programs or services are running in the background which can cause the blinking, please use the Process Explorer to view everything is going on in your system
when the driver light is blinking, (You may close unneeded programs to reduce the workload)

  • ITunes 10.3.1 pops up with Accessing iTunes Store every second

When trying to type something into the upper right search field in iTunes 10.3.1, it pops up with the "Accessing iTunes Store" after every single letter I try to type in. It makes it so even writing a single word takes like a full minute. The previous version of iTunes had just started doing it too. I updated to 10.3.1 hoping that it would fix it, but it didn't.

    Hi all, iTunes streaming victims.
I struggled long with the streaming buffer problem of iTunes and indeed could solve it with increasing the buffer size, which features has been removed in iTunes 10. And this without updating the instructions by Apple!
In the end also the reinstall didn't work.
    Here is my latest solutions:
    http://www.rogueamoeba.com/airfoil/
perfect for all wireless audio streaming not only for itunes, but any source on the Mac.
solved the problem completely for my 3 MacBooks, 2 airports, iphones etc.
it is not for free but a very good value for money.
    cheers, Wil

  • Sql2005Sp4 x64 (9.0.5000) SqlDump (Access violation) occurs every second

i am getting around 10 dumps a second.  The dump analysis is below.  It looks like Service Broker may be involved.  We do use service broker so that is a possibility.
Can anyone read this and make more sense out of it?  Is there another command i can use that will produce more useful information?
this is SQL2005 so calling MS is probably not a good option.
(edit)  it certainly looks like a background task (Service Broker)
(edit2) if it matters this is Sql2005 clustered on Win2008R2
    CSession @0x00000003305B22B0
    m_spid = 156                         m_cRef = 12                          m_rgcRefType[0] = 1

In other stack dumps i have found, that value is a 0.  -1 apparently indicates 'true'.

    Hi,
Check the error message in the SQL Server Error Log. The dump file points that the wrong symbol is sqlservr!GenGetFromObject.
Verify if symbols are loaded for  SQL Server by using the debugger command lmvm.
    lmvm sqlservr!GenGetFromObject

    Hi,
After i completed "Reset All Settings" on my iPhone 4S (iOS 5.0.1), i then always get camera flash light blinking every time i receive the incoming call. I want to turn this off by trying Setting --> General --> Accessibility --> LED Flash for Alerts (turn off), however, it does not work for me. i still get the LED flash blinking everytime i get the incoming call and this is very annoying.
Could you please advise how to get this fixed?
    Thank,
    sanlen

  • Isight camera green light blink

My isight camera green light blinks every two seconds, when I try to use facetime or any other application of isight. And of course, the camera is not working.
I'm using a Macbook Pro, just bought it a month ago.
Does anyone have the same problem or have a way to solve this annoying issue?

Yes.  Your retailer does.  He can either: (1) determine whether your new Mac needs repair or replacement, or (2) show you how to make your camera work correctly.

  • Re: Satellite A300 - Enable AHCI mode without having to reinstall Win XP

    1- Extract [http://www.mediafire.com/file/qjidwo20rnt/Toshiba A300 WindowsXP 32bit ICH9M.zip]
1- Copy the *iaStor.sys* File into the \Windows\System32\Drivers\
    2- Run *ich9m.reg*
3- Reboot end enter *BIOS* and switch to *AHCI*-mode
4- Use the downloaded driver to install manually the driver when windows detected it.

    I spent too much time (almost 2 days) at trying and reading forum, so I think that it would be useful to share my experiment, especially because it's a frequent problem. ( <a href="http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=39771&tstart=0" target="_newWindow" class="jive-link-external">Satellite A300 - Need SATA driver for Windows XP</a> , <a href="http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=36343" target="_newWindow" class="jive-link-external">Win XP on Satellite A300 - SATA HDD slow - eats CPU</a> , <a href="http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?messageID=139169" target="_newWindow" class="jive-link-external">Satellite Pro A300 and WIN XP SATA problem </a> , <a href="http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/message.jspa?messageID=147048" target="_newWindow" class="jive-link-external">Xp won't install on Satellite A300 PSAGCA with the AHCI enabled</a> )<br />

Performance in compatibility is really poor (slowness at copying big files, windows takes so long to start up, CPU consumption), it&rsquo;s 20 times better with SATA.<br />

  • TDP-XP2 yellow lamp light blinking periodlcally

I have replaced the lamp in a TDP-XP2. The projector powers up and then the lamp light blinks every 15 seconds or so. The lamp does not come one. Any ideas on what the problem might be?

I bought the 65HM167 around October 2007 and it has been an awesome TV - the best I've ever had by far.  However, about a year ago (early to mid 2012) the lamp finally went out.  The old lamp was shattered inside the housing, but the outer glass was not broken.
I ordered a new Toshiba lamp and installed it.  Shortly after installing the new lamp, white dots began to appear on the screen.  I read that this is not an uncommon problem and tends to be an issue with the DLP chip - it's probably going out.  So the number of dots went from three to maybe ten over the course of a couple of months.
One day late last year I turned the TV on, the blue light came on and I could hear the TV try to start (as usual).  However, this time it didn't come on - it tried to restart something like eight times.  After that a voice came out of the TV speaker saying "lamp not working" (which scared the c*** out of me, by the way), and the red light with blinking yellow light stayed on.
I've tried restarting the TV multiple times, but the yellow and red lights keep coming back on.  The voice only intermittently announces that the lamp is not working.  I've removed the lamp and inspected it, but unlike the shattered first lamp, this one still appears intact.
So is this really a lamp problem, or is the DLP chip fried and somehow preventing the light from coming on?  I REALLY don't want to spend any more money on this TV unless it's likely to fix the problem for the next few years, so I'm reluctant to hire a repairman.
    Any suggestions?
Unplug the set and it will reset.  I have the same problem, sometimes I have to unplug it several times for it to work.  Your bulb is probably an aftermarket bulb(same as I have).  I've had this problem for 3 years, picture is fine when it goes on.  I actually put the set on a power strip, and just hit the button to remove it from the power for 10-15 seconds.
