Satellite A300-1OM - Media sharing with XBox 360

I'm having some real problems sharing my media with my Xbox 360 using my wireless home network.
I used to connect my 360 to the internet via internet sharing with my laptop connected via Ethernet. I am now borrowing a wireless adaptor for the 360 which still allows me to connect to the internet on the 360, but I can no longer access my laptops music library or find a Windows Media Centre PC when searching the network on my 360.
My laptop is running Windows 7 64bit. When I view "network" my own laptop appears, my second laptop connected to the network is also shown and the 360 is also shown under media devices. Under "Media Streaming Options" my 360 is also listed and given full access to my laptop media.
When my laptop is connected directly to my 360 via Ethernet the music library and video library works fine, as does Windows Media Centre.
Does anybody know of any solutions to this issue? I'm assuming this is just going to be an issue with some settings on my laptop as opposed to an issue with my Xbox. Any advice much appreciated!

OK, agreed this may not be in the correct forum, but it may be a notebook problem so I thought I'd ask here where people with the most Toshiba knowledge would read it. Let's not lower this forum to the standards of discussing the choices of games consoles though :)
I risked all and turned off my firewall and all my protection software, still no progress though. It really doesn't make sense that my notebook even displays that there is a 360 on my network whilst it's connected to the network yet the 360 can't detect the computer when I ask it to search the network for one.

  • Media Sharing to Xbox 360 trough WRT160N

Does anyone know if I have to forward a port or hange a setting or do something?
I did not change any settings on my PC or anything when I changed from my old G series to this new N series, but for some reason, the 360 can't find the PC but on the Linksys Easylink I can see it connected and I can see the Ethernet port light on the router light up when the 360 turns on.
    Any help?

Also turn all firewalls off then try connect, once you are connected you can turn your firwalls back on...
This could also be a computer software firewall problem.  When you replaced your router, your computer software firewall noticed that you "joined a new network", and therefore automatically set itself so that no other computers/devices on the network are "trusted".  Therefore signals from the other computers/devices are being blocked by the computer software firewall.
To fix this problem, go into the computer software firewall on each computer, and set it to "trust" the other computers on your network.
If your firewall or PC security program keeps a list of trusted applications (also known as a "trusted zone"), then make sure that your router is in the trusted zone on your firewall...

  • E4200 -- no sharing, no xbox 360 media extender

Problem:  Shares don't work on my network from win7 box (trying to access these from a wd hd tv live plus), can't use xbox 360 as a windows media extender from win7 box, Media sharing from Windows Media Player from win7 box doesn't work (trying to access these from a wd hd tv live plus and xbox 360).
Note...if I attach a hard drive to the router, I can share from the hard drive attached to the router and use it as uPnP device.
This linksys replaced a netgear router.  That is the only thing that has changed in the network configuration.  All of the sharing and xbox 360 windows media extender worked when I had the netgear.
I have tried removing the xbox360 as an extender and readding it.  I have tried changing the multicast setting.
I tried calling linksys support and they didn't know how to help.
Gaming works fine through the xbox 360.  Internet access is great on the win 7 box, hd tv live plus, xbox 360, and wii--MUCH better than the netgear, which is why I want to make this work

Disable Network sharing on all the computers/devices. Restart all the computers/devices. Enable network sharing again on all the computer and devices. Make sure that all the computers and devices are in the same work group. if there is any firewall/Anti-virus installed on your computer then disable it or turn it off and see if that works.

  • Satellite A300-1OM - No sound on TV using HDMI

I have a Toshiba Satellite A300-1OM, and also a Toshiba HD TV with HDMI input ports.
I recently bought a HDMI to HDMI cable and attached the notebook to the tv and turned the tv to the HDMI channel, and the notebook confirmed this by making the 'new device attached' noise.
However, when I try to use Fn+F5 and output to the tv, nothing happens. When I choose to use the tv as an external monitor the tv shows the external screen, though only covers the centre of the tv, just slightly larger than my notebook screen, instead of being the full screen as i'd hoped. The sound also remained on the notebook instead of through my tv speakers.
I then tried the 'HDMI Output' software that came with the notebook, and only got the 'This is only effective when the PC is connected to a TV which supports HDMI Control through the HDMI cable' message.
Finally I tried the graphics options by right clicking on the desktop and choosing to output to monitor, then using graphics properties I managed to increase the resolution on the TV until it almost fit the entire screen, but not fully, and again the sound only came out of the notebook.
I am hoping to be able to watch HD video files from my laptop, but it seems that video output on my TV is still only notebook quality instead of HD as I had hoped.. I tried watching "Lost.S05E11.720p.HDTV.x264-CTU.mkv" once i'd finally output my notebook to the HD TV to an almost full screen size, but didn't recognise the difference between video on TV and on Notebook.
Can anybody help? I've read several other similar posts, i've checked BIOS and HDMI is enabled in the display section, but still can't resolve my problem.
    Thanks!

    Hi
    >I am hoping to be able to watch HD video files from my laptop, but it seems that video output on my TV is still only notebook quality instead of HD
    > didn't recognize the difference between video on TV and on Notebook.
Do you know what HD quality means?
The HD TV supports an max resolution of 1280 720 px and full HD means that the TV would be able to show the HD movies using the 1920 1080 resolution.
    A simple old TV supports a resolution of 768 x 576.
Every notebook screen is able to show the HD videos in HD quality because the display supports the same or higher resolution!!!
Therefore you will not notice any difference on notebook or HD TV playing HD quality videos!
Furthermore the sound is not coming through the TV speakers because you didnt choose the HDMI port as a default sound output (device).
Check this step by step instruction:
    Click Start
    Settings
    Control Panel
    Hardware and Sound
    Sound /Digital Output Device (HDMI)
    Click the Set Default Button

    Hey kole71,
That particular model of Plantronics is compatible for PC gaming but not Xbox 360. Plantronics does have some headsets that work with 360, and I've attached a PDF of the chart found on their website. Hope that helps!

Is the Linksys Wireless G Broadband Router (WRT54G) compatible with XBOX 360's Wireless Network Adapter?

Use the LAN port and cable. That way you'll get no interference and great data transfer. Or this maybe helps. http://www.xbox.com/en-US/support/connecttolive/xbox360/homenetworking/equipment.htm

  • Sharing Internet with xbox 360

Hi, I have my Powerbook sharing internet with my Xbox 360. The connection works well and I am able to play games, but the NAT is listed as Moderate, with a Moderate NAT I am not able to do private voice chats with people. Does anyone know how I can get my NAT to Open? Also, I would like to share my media with my Xbox that is stored on a Windows XP computer. I followed all the steps given at www.xbox.com/pcsetup, but the Xbox still does not see the computer.
Any help would be appreciated, Thnx

If you are using Internet Sharing on your PowerBook you can forget trying to modify NAT settings or make nearly any other adjustments. There are very, very, very few options.
If you want to make adjustments like that you need to get a real base station.

  • Xbox WMP11 Media Sharing with WRT54GS & WGA54G

Hi there, I have one PC hooked up to a wireless adapter. My Xbox is hooked directly into the router. As soon as I enable my WPA key on the router and adapter, the Xbox (even though wired) loses connection settings to the wireless network, and I can no longer connect the Xbox and wireless PC. However, as soon as I disable the key, the Xbox has no problem getting in touch with the other computer and using its media sharing. When I do enable the key, the Xbox's wireless settings go grey and I can't enter any manual wireless info there. What am I doing wrong here? It really bugs me that I have to drop my secure network settings to get this to work!

Yeah, that's what left me scratching my head. Why should the Xbox care about any wireless settings at all if it's wired? Is is using those settings for connecting to the wireless adapter? The Xbox sometimes picks up the wireless settings no problem, but every time I try to manually edit those settings with the WPA key it loses the settings and goes gray (uneditable) on the Xbox screen.
But besides that, how do I make the Xbox have a static IP? It's the only wired connection to the router.

  • WRT55AG with Xbox 360 Media

I have spent a few weeks trying to solve this issue to no avail, and wanted to possibly hear another side on how to fix.
I have the router setup and broadcasting an "A" signal.  Xbox is wireless and is connected through the router, can get on Xbox live with no trouble.  PC is wired to router.
I have tried every solution I can find on xbox.com on how to stream media from my computer to my xbox, but my xbox cannot see my PC.  My PC can see my xbox, and it has been allowed in WMP 11 and all steps have been taken to try and assure it will work, but it doesn't.
Anyone else having trouble with this router?

Well, using Windows Media Player 11 negates Windows Media Connect.  You can't have both of them installed on the same computer.
But I did try uninstalling the Zune software (which is the software the xbox site now points to instead of WMC) and WMP 11, and then installing Windows Media Connect.  When I would attempt to install that, it would fail at the "Authorizing Xbox 360...." stage.  It would say there was a problem and it was unable to install.
So no, I have never used it but it's mainly because when I attempt to find my xbox using it, it can't (even though both the Zune software and WMP11 both can see my xbox)

    Hi
You have to configure the single buttons.
This Toshiba button support pop up will appear if the pressed button was not configured.
So press the button and then assign the action, application.
You have to expand this menu pressing on the small arrow on the right.

  • Problem streaming from Windows Media Center to XBOX 360 with Airports?

    Good evening,
I have been having an issue trying to stream windows media center from my windows 7 ultimate (64 bit if that helps) to my Xbox 360. My network setup is:
I have an airport extreme (G) that is plugged into my cable modem and my windows 7 machine. In my living room I have an airport express that extends my wireless signal through out the house but my xbox 360 is plugged into it via ethernet. I have a very fast internet connection that is stable but any transfer between my computer and xbox is very limited it seems. I was wonder if there is a way to get this to work better. When I lunch windows media center on the xbox it sees my pc and it shows the available files but when I try and move from one to the other nothing happens and eventually I get a can't connect error. Would I be better off not connecting via ethernet to the airport express and just buying a wireless adapter?
    Thanks

You don't say how your devices are connected, whether through your Verizon router or some other way.  If through, say, an Actiontec then you may be having bottleneck issues.  I used to run all my devices through my Actiontec and got poor transfer speeds (it only handles 10/100).  Moving everything on my network to a 10/100/1000 switch helped my transfer speeds to shoot right up ten fold.  This way only the switch gets connected to my Actiontec and my network devices can still get out on the 'net if needed.
It's ok to try to reinvent the wheel, but just make sure it's round.

  • Replacing Apple TV with Xbox 360, Video Questions

I have had an ATV for a little over a year and thanks to Handbrake I now have an incredible Movie Library over 600 flicks ripped for ATV with the .m4v extension. This month I am getting an Xbox 360 and would like to use it in place of my ATV and move the ATV to another room. I have been doing my research and everything says I should use Connect 360 or Rivet to make contact between my iMac and Xbox 360. Though I have read that movies with the extension .m4v will not read. I have read on various sites that I could just change the extension to .mp4 or .avi and it will work fine. Though alot of the data out there on connect 360 and Xbox 360 streaming seems to be outdated and I can't tell what has been fixed by updates. so... my questions are,
    1. Will my movies stream to xbox 360 via connect 360 in the .m4v format?
2.If no, can I just change the extension to .mp4 or .AVI? (I changed the extension from .MP4 to .m4v on some movies when I got the ATV due to some recognition issues in itunes last year and had no problem)
    3. If I change the extensions will my ATV still be able to play these videos from elsewhere in the house?
    4. Will it all just work flawlessly with no problems thanks to amazing updates from all parties?

I wanted a next gen game system. Part of the way I could convince my wife to let me get an xbox (Im whipped) was to offer to move the ATV to the bedroom so she could view our media in there. Since the Xbox has media center qualities I figured I would take atvantage of them. Now I trying to figure out the best way to get both working.
