Satellite A300-1OM wirless connection changed from connected to limited

I am having issues with continual use of the internet via my wireless home network, which appears to be an intermittent problem.
On many occasions while using my wireless internet connection the connection has changed from 'connected' to 'limited connectivity', which then leads to difficulty opening the 'Network and Sharing Centre' and also 'Connect To a Wireless Network' dialog boxes, and when attempting to diagnose the problem using windows it only suggests moving closer to or restarting my wireless router, which I know to be work fine as I can operate another toshiba laptop and browse the internet using the same router in the same location.
It seems the only method to repair this problem is to restart the computer, reopen the Network and Sharing Centre, click on the red 'X' between the graphic of my computer and the image of the earth (internet) allowing windows to diagnose the problem, and then choose 'turn on wireless connectivity', and after doing this the network begins operating as normal...until it repeats the malfunction a few hours later :(

I've updated the WiFi Driver and BIOS, how can I find out what Wireless standard my notebook is using? As you can imagine with an intermittent issue, I won't know if the problem is fixed until (if) it fails again.
I'm using Vista Home Premium
With regards to restarting the router, why might this make any difference when it is evident from using two toshiba notebooks side by side that the router is still providing internet access to my other notebook once this notebook has downgraded to 'limited connectivity'?
Thanks

  • Satellite A300-1OM - No sound on TV using HDMI

I have a Toshiba Satellite A300-1OM, and also a Toshiba HD TV with HDMI input ports.
I recently bought a HDMI to HDMI cable and attached the notebook to the tv and turned the tv to the HDMI channel, and the notebook confirmed this by making the 'new device attached' noise.
However, when I try to use Fn+F5 and output to the tv, nothing happens. When I choose to use the tv as an external monitor the tv shows the external screen, though only covers the centre of the tv, just slightly larger than my notebook screen, instead of being the full screen as i'd hoped. The sound also remained on the notebook instead of through my tv speakers.
I then tried the 'HDMI Output' software that came with the notebook, and only got the 'This is only effective when the PC is connected to a TV which supports HDMI Control through the HDMI cable' message.
Finally I tried the graphics options by right clicking on the desktop and choosing to output to monitor, then using graphics properties I managed to increase the resolution on the TV until it almost fit the entire screen, but not fully, and again the sound only came out of the notebook.
I am hoping to be able to watch HD video files from my laptop, but it seems that video output on my TV is still only notebook quality instead of HD as I had hoped.. I tried watching "Lost.S05E11.720p.HDTV.x264-CTU.mkv" once i'd finally output my notebook to the HD TV to an almost full screen size, but didn't recognise the difference between video on TV and on Notebook.
Can anybody help? I've read several other similar posts, i've checked BIOS and HDMI is enabled in the display section, but still can't resolve my problem.
    Thanks!

    Hi
    >I am hoping to be able to watch HD video files from my laptop, but it seems that video output on my TV is still only notebook quality instead of HD
    > didn't recognize the difference between video on TV and on Notebook.
Do you know what HD quality means?
The HD TV supports an max resolution of 1280 720 px and full HD means that the TV would be able to show the HD movies using the 1920 1080 resolution.
    A simple old TV supports a resolution of 768 x 576.
Every notebook screen is able to show the HD videos in HD quality because the display supports the same or higher resolution!!!
Therefore you will not notice any difference on notebook or HD TV playing HD quality videos!
Furthermore the sound is not coming through the TV speakers because you didnt choose the HDMI port as a default sound output (device).
Check this step by step instruction:
    Click Start
    Settings
    Control Panel
    Hardware and Sound
    Sound /Digital Output Device (HDMI)
    Click the Set Default Button

  • Satellite A300 - won't connect to WPA secured network

Help please.... new Toshiba Satellite A300 - running XP professional with atheros AR9281 wireless network adapter (driver 7.6.0.200) won't connect to WAP secure networks, but seems to be fine with WEP and unsecured networks?
I can connect to my WAP secure network using LAN cable and also if I use an external Netgear wireless adapter, so the problem is definitely with this adapter or driver. I have update bios and tried updating driver, but no luck. Current driver is (I think) most up to date?
Would be grateful for your help.
    Thank you.

On the Toshiba website is a newer driver version available (7.6.1.149.1)
So I would try the new driver.
    Check the Toshiba website:

  • Satellite A300-1G5 - Can I change HDD place?

    Hi everyone;
I have this laptop : [Toshiba Satallite A300 - 1G5|http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/jsp/SUPPORTSECTION/discontinuedProductPage.do?service=EU&com.broadvis ion.session.new=Yes&PRODUCT_ID=1055589] . it has the standard specification no upgrades.
I was thinking if it possible to move the HDD from its place (which on the left side of the laptop) to the right side of the laptop, since my model can have 2 separate HDD. This idea came to my mind because of the fact that the CPU ( cooling module ) is actually is on the left side as well as HDD. As everybody knows , CPU generate the most heat of the laptop, so I was thinking I can reduce heat by moving the HDD to right side (where its only contain the DVD drive). A matter of fact, the left side of the laptop is always hotter than the right side.
So, is there any body agree on that? Will the HDD fit on the right side ? If so, can u people help me on how I can move the HDD to the right side?
    thanks in advance ..

    Hi
Theoretically you can exchange the HDD and you can put in into the second HDD slot. It makes no difference if the computer boots from SATA1 port or SATA2 port.
But the interesting thing is that my girlfriend has Satellite A300 too but with 2 HDDs. Now I have looked into both HDD slots and the point is that the HDD chassis to fix it in the notebook (silver chassis) are different. That means you need the HDD chassis for the second slot.
You can get if from an authorized service provider.
Furthermore if your notebook is getting hot you should clean it. I do it every 3 months and always Im wondering how much dust come out.
I hope I could help you a little bit.

  • Satellite A300-20P - How to restore from Toshiba recovery?

    Hi ..
my friend has this laptop: Satellite A300-20P.
I'm not sure what he did, but he installed Windows Vista Home Premium 64bit, then 32-bit again. The whole thing messed up.
Anyway, he didnt make a recovery disk for his laptop (damn thing). Now, becasue I have a Toshiba laptop too I know that there is Recovery on the Harddisk on the D partition (not the windows partition). I tried to use "Repair Windows" booting Windows, when I try to restore the whole PC from a backup media it says " No backup media found", now I'm not sure if the recovery sector still available or not, because the Windows cant boot. So is there away to find the recovery media?
If this mission impossible, then I have Windows Vista Ultimate to install and I can download the drivers from the site? The problem is, how I will make recovery media when install the Windows and the drivers ?
    Please this is urgent.
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi
To be honest Im confused at the moment because first you wrote about a problem of your friends notebook and you wrote something about your own notebook where you try repair Windows.
So I dont understand what you mean exactly.
But fact is you have two possibilities to restore factory settings:
1)Use the Toshiba HDD recovery option. You can start it if you go in advanced boot menu (F8) and select Repair my computer. Then follow the screen instructions.
The first partition of the HDD will be wiped and you get factory settings back.
2)Use the Toshiba recovery disk. Its very similar to HDD recovery option but whole HDD will be wiped (all files will be deleted). After this you have factory settings back, too.
So thats all what you can do to restore the factory settings. If the HDD recovery option not work and you dont have a recovery disk you have to order a new one from Toshiba directly.
Alternative you can use a Microsoft disk to install Windows and then download and install all drivers and tools from Toshiba website step by step.

  • Satellite P300-19P - How to change from NTSC to PAL?

Everytime I want to display on my TV I have to change the TV from PAL to NTSC as I can't find how to change the S-Video output on the laptop from NTSC to PAL.
    Does anyone know how to?
    Cheers.

    Hey,
Im not owner of Satellite P300 but either you can change this option in BIOS or in display driver. Normally there you have an option to change between PAL and NTSC on S-Video output.
    Check this!!!

  • Satellite A110-149: Sometimes keyboard changes from AZERTY to QWERTY

HI, and sorry for my poor English speaking (I'm French and novice at English)
I have a problem with my laptop: Satellite A110-149, running Windows XP, bought in January 2007.
Sometimes, for unknown reason, my keyboard (AZERTY) changes to QWERTY, no matter what software I'm using.
I've upgraded the drivers in the configuration panel, but nothing changes.
What to do please? How could I repair it?
    Thanks.

    I have only one explanation.
You have configured the keyboard layout with two different languages.
By pressing of SHIFT + ALT the OS changes the layout language and the button assignation.
Maybe during the fast typing you have accidentally activated this key combination and the keyboard layout switched

  • Satellite A300-1OM - Media sharing with XBox 360

I'm having some real problems sharing my media with my Xbox 360 using my wireless home network.
I used to connect my 360 to the internet via internet sharing with my laptop connected via Ethernet. I am now borrowing a wireless adaptor for the 360 which still allows me to connect to the internet on the 360, but I can no longer access my laptops music library or find a Windows Media Centre PC when searching the network on my 360.
My laptop is running Windows 7 64bit. When I view "network" my own laptop appears, my second laptop connected to the network is also shown and the 360 is also shown under media devices. Under "Media Streaming Options" my 360 is also listed and given full access to my laptop media.
When my laptop is connected directly to my 360 via Ethernet the music library and video library works fine, as does Windows Media Centre.
Does anybody know of any solutions to this issue? I'm assuming this is just going to be an issue with some settings on my laptop as opposed to an issue with my Xbox. Any advice much appreciated!

OK, agreed this may not be in the correct forum, but it may be a notebook problem so I thought I'd ask here where people with the most Toshiba knowledge would read it. Let's not lower this forum to the standards of discussing the choices of games consoles though :)
I risked all and turned off my firewall and all my protection software, still no progress though. It really doesn't make sense that my notebook even displays that there is a 360 on my network whilst it's connected to the network yet the 360 can't detect the computer when I ask it to search the network for one.

  • Satellite A300 - no illumination with WXP

    Hi,
Excuse me for my bad English.
My Toshiba (Sat A300-1EC) OS was changed from Vista to XP. Easy keys, hot keys and illumination stopped operating.
Thanks to much information from this forum, I downloaded four drivers from Toshiba Support (Common, Hotkey, Utilities, Control).
Everything becomes OK, except LED illumination. First (left) of easy keys turns on/off sound (as Fn+Esc), but not illumination.
    What can be wrong?
    Thanks for Your help.

    Hi
Did you choose the right option in Toshiba Control buttons tool?
Usually you should find this in control panel -> Toshiba Controls
Using this tool you can configure the single buttons.
Select Illumination On/Off in the first button settings and save the changes.
Then check again the illumination button functionality!

  • How to connect my Satellite A300-1J1 to HD TV

    Hello
I have a Toshiba laptop model Satellite A300-1J1 (which does not have a HDMi socket) & have just purchased Toshiba XV551D 40" HD tv. Want to be able to connect laptop to tv with the best picture quality possible, would a DVI to HDMI cable be better than the standard 15pin monitor to external monitor/tv cable?
My laptop has a IEEE1394 socket, i'm presuming this is the same as a DVI socket??? (I could be wrong tho!) Also on reading the tv manual, it says unless I am connecting HDMI to HDMI, I would need a separate audio cable?
Please advise asap, I'm looking to buy all necessary leads online rather than go shopping so want to make sure I get correct leads from the off.
And apologies if i sound thick lol.
    Thanks

HDMI or DVI will be the best quality.
15pin VGA is analog and has a limited resolution.
If your TV has speakers, you can simply use HDMI to output the sound to the TV (HDMI includes audio signals).
If you use DVI, you will need an Audio Cable from the headphone jack on the laptop, to your Speakers/Hifi.
IEEE1394 or FireWire is not a video connector. It is similar to a USB port, primarily used to transfer video/audio from a camcorder to your PC.

  • Problems auto-connecting after sleep & startup (Changed from WPA to WEP)

Okay, I know there have been several issues similar to this, but after two days of sifting through posts, I still can't resolve this.
A few days ago I switched my AirPort network security from WPA to WEP-128. This was required to allow my Nintendo DS to connect to the netwrok, by the way. After the change, two similar, but slightly different problems started:
My 15" PowerBook G4 no longer auto-connects to the network at startup. The network is listed in the drop-down, and connects with no problem when I choose it manually. The computer seems to have no problem re-connecting after waking from sleep, which is odd because...
My other PowerBook, a 12" G4, won't auto-connect at startup AND won't re-connect after sleep. As above, it has no problem connecting using the Keychain once the network is selected from the drop-down.
So far I have tried, on both machines:
    - trashing the system airport prefs
    - deleting and resetting the network's keychain entry
    - repairing the keychain (no errors found)
    - turning off some unneeded power mgt options
    - disconnecting USB peripherals
I have also reloaded the software on both my AirPort Extreme base and my AirPort Express hub, as well as restarting both hubs. I've also made sure that AirPort is at the top of the network connection list.
Both laptops are running 10.4.3 and have all the latest software updates installed.
    What am I missing?
    Thanks.

Both of these replies are helpful, in that they help confirm something I figured out this morning, almost accidentally.
One thing I didn't mention was that during the change from WPA to WEP I changed the network password. Now, I assumed that since the Keychain seemed to be working and I could get on the network manually without needing to enter the password each time, that meant the new password had correctly propagated throughout the system.
So, this morning I go into the Network settings, switch from Automatic to Preferred, select my network, look at the properties, and notice that somehow it has way too many bullets for that to be the correct password. I re-entered the password and that seems to have solved the problem. The new password I had entered somehow didn't make it into this setting. I guess trashing the network prefs, or renaming the network would have had the same effect.

  • Satellite A300 cannot turn on when AC adaptor connected

    Hi,
I have a problem with my Toshiba Satellite A300 when the notebook is connected to power adapter I have no possibility to turn it on, it goes only 2-3 sec. on an after it goes down.
When Toshiba is turned on with the battery supply and I tried to connect power adapter it goes also down.
I have no problems with charging itself but only with operating with power adapter.
Please help me what can I do with this issue, does anybody has similar problem?

    Hi!
For me it sounds like a hardware malfunction of the mainboard if the AC/DC adaptor is connected and notebook is turned on
Im not sure but the best way would be if you go to the nearest authorized service provider with the AC/DC adaptor. The technicians can check your notebook and exchange the mainboard if its really necessary. The guys are very friendly and useful!
Here you can search for the nearest ASP:
