Satellite A300 - Cannot install operating system

I just bought a notebook Satellite A300.
At the begining it had no operating system, but the one at the store installed me Windows 7 ultimate (trial).
Now i have problems installing other system.
It shows me an error and one more thing. When i bought the notebook it had no cd-s, no drivers, nothing, it is ok?
Please respond me, I don't know what to do.

Hallo Alexandra
I have the same notebook model and at first I want to say that you got good choice. Satellite A300 is supported for WXP, Vista and for newest Win7 too. I have tested performance with all three operating systems and to be honest, best performance is under Win7.
So I recommend you to install Win7. I can help you with exact, step-by-step guideline.
If you want to install WXP you MUST use WXP SP2 or WXP with SP3. Your notebook has SATA HDD inside and when WXP installation starts you must load SATA driver (F6 option when WXP installation starts). This SATA driver can be loaded with floppy disc. Other way you must create WXP installations CD with integrated SATA driver. For this purposes you can use nLite software. It can be a little bit complicated.
Using Win7 you don't need this SATA driver.
Please let me know your opinion about all this.
At the end I must say that you should maybe look forward and learn to use newest operating system and newest compatible software. We all like WXP but it is time to say goodbye. Do you agree with me?

Hi, I have a laptop satellite a300 and when I boot the system I get an error message 'Error loading operating system' - if some kind poster can help me on this matter it would be much appreciated.

Do the BIOS recognize the HDD? Check this in BIOS.
Can you boot in safe mode?
If you can go in the advanced boot menu, choose repair my computer and select the Toshiba recovery option. This procedure reinstalls the OS.
This feature is only available with a preinstall Windows Vista. If you have Windows XP, you must use the CD.

    Hi
i tryed to install windows xp after windows 7 but instalation of Xp cant find hard disk.
Someone told me i should install sata drivers can anyone help me?

As I said there are a lot of threads about that check also the HowTo & FAQ are of this forum.
SATA driver is a part of Intel Storage Manger it can be downloaded from the Toshiba European driver page
You can attach the SATA drivers into the Win XP CD using the nLite software too.
    Its for free
But the easiest way is to change the BIOS settings as mentioned above

What is your S.M.A.R.T. Status. See Disk Utility--> top level in left column.
It seems your AHT is indicating Hard drive.
Your other option is to boot off external clone if you do not want to replace your internal hard drive.

It sounds like you may have multiple problems, but none of them are likely to be caused by malware.
First, the internet-related issues may be related to adware or a network compromise. I tend to lean more towards the latter, based on your description of the problem. See:
    http://www.adwaremedic.com/kb/baddns.php
    http://www.adwaremedic.com/kb/hackedrouter.php
If investigation shows that this is not a network-specific issue, then it's probably adware. See my Adware Removal Guide for help finding and removing it. Note that you mention AdBlock as if it should have prevented this, but it's important to understand that ad blockers do not protect you against adware in any way. Neither would any kind of anti-virus software, which often doesn't detect adware.
As for the other issues, it sounds like you've got some serious corruption. I would be inclined to say it sounds like a failing drive, except it sounds like you just got it replaced. How did you get all your files back after the new drive was installed?

  • MDT 2012 \ WinPE 3.0 Slow Install Operating System

I have an issue with a custom wim I have incorporated into my Task sequence. When I use a custom Wim, at the point where the MDT Tasksequence begins to "Install Operating System" it slows down to a crawl. What previously took 5-10 minutes on a
previous wim, is now taking 30-50. When the "Install Operating System" task begins, it starts a at a very decent rate, you can see the percentage or time increasing/changing every few seconds with out issue, but when it gets to 30% completion, it
starts to slow down dramatically. Eventually it will get to 100% Completion, where it will stay for the next 5 minutes, at which point it will apply the unattend.xml which will also take a very very long time to complete.
Once it reboots from applying the Unattend.xml everything runs normal.
    My Setup:
    I am using MDT 2012 - with WinPE3.0
To create my Custom Wim I did the following:
I created a brand new standard tasksequence, to deploy an OS to a machine, install updates then sysprep and capture to a wim. I set a custom variable in the tasksequence which set DoCapture=Yes. This allowed me to Capture the Operating system after the windows
updates were done without having to do any additional steps. I then imported the Image into the operating systems section of my MDT Deployment share, and incorporated it into my previous Tasksequence.
I have also noticed that the size of the wim file I created is about 1.5 gigs larger than my previous wim.
    Steps I've Taken for remediation:
I've tried rebuilding my boot.wim several times.
    Increased the scratch size from 32 -> 64 -> 256 -> 512MB
Removed unnecessary drivers from the boot.wim
Any ideas you guys might have with regard to getting my Install Operating System phase to speed up to normal speeds with be greatly appreciated.  Is there an extra step with the install.wim that I importing into MDT that I should be doing?

I completed a robocopy in the full blown OS to download the 4.9g wim, it takes 1 minute and 36 seconds.  It does have gigabit connection active in the full blown os.
When I am running WinPE, Task Manager is showing my local area connection is running at 1Gbps.
Another discrepancy I'm noticing is that @ 12:16:04 [Line1801] the task sequence finishes apply the wim.  It takes 10 minutes for it to start the next task found on Line 1807.  Any Ideas on why it taking so long to apply the  bootsect.exe
    command?
I did disable the "Apply Patches" task, and it did remove 20 minutes by not applying those patches.  Thank you for that suggestion.

  • Re-install operating system on Compaq NC6400

Must I use an external DVD optical drive to recover/re-install operating system on Compaq NC6400? If an external drive is required, is it possible to use an external hard drive? And, will a simple copying the files off of the CD and onto the hard drive work as the transfer?

    Hi:
As far as I know you need to install using a CD/DVD drive. I would suggest if your CD/DVD drive doesn't work, you can use an external one.
I don't think you can copy the CD and to an external HDD and boot from that to install.

From there you can select recover my computer or restore to factory condition (depends on software version). Follow steps to restore. When completed make a set of recovery discs. If possible do this before restoring. The discs will be necessary if something goes wrong.

I've googled around and tried a lot of 'fixes' I've found from various sites but nothing seems to have remedied this issue. The only thing that changed (That I can think of) is the IP of the VM was changed to a different one. This seems to be when it started

  • Unable to install operating system

I have a G4 Powerbook 1.5 ghz that I have been using for 1 1/2 years. All of a sudden my computer started acting slow and then I had a screen come up telling me to turn off my computer. After trying to restart, my computer is unable to do anything so I put in the Mac OS X Install DVD and run disk utility and it is unable to repair the hard drive. Then, I erased my system and started fresh and this worked for about a week and then I started having the same problem and I repeated the erase and install and it did this again. Now, I erased the system for the third time. I am trying to install the operating system again and have attempted this numerous times over the last few days and cannot get throught the whole installation. It just freezes while "Processing BSD Subsystem" in the installation. Any suggestions?
    15" powerbook g4 1.5 ghz   Mac OS X (10.3)

When you erased the hard drive, did this include reformatting the hard drive selecting HFS+ (or extended) with Journaling enabled?
Your hard drive may be failing or has failed.
When booting from the Panther install disc and navigating to Disk Utility via the Installer menu bar, what does the S.M.A.R.T. status indicate (at the bottom of the First Aid window) when selecting the hard drive at the very top of the drives and volumes window? When selecting the hard drive (not Macintosh HD which is the hard drive boot volume) includes the hard drive capacity in GB and an abbreviation for the hard drive manufacturer.
If the S.M.A.R.T. status for the hard drive does not indicate "Verified", your hard drive is failing or has failed which will require replacing the hard drive.

  • Satellite A300 : cannot boot : blocked by Phoenix TrustedCore Setup Utility

This one is a bit bizarre. We have a Tosh Satellite A300-193 Laptop (Manufacturer Code: PSAJ1E-01000XEN) purchased July 2008, which my daughter uses for work. We have Kaspersky anti-virus on it, but since its license had expired (and we didn't really like it), I was going to remove it and install Avast.
Kasperky's removal instructions involve getting their "kavremove" tool which their instructions say should be run from safe mode. So, having downloaded the tool, I pressed F8 to boot to safe mode. ...
That's when things went wrong. Instead of the typical black boot-options screen, I got a password request from "Phoenix TrustedCore Setup Utility". We have never set up a password on this machine, and I have never seen this particular screen before. After three wrong guesses (!), the machine powers off.
Now when I turn it on, it goes straight to this Phoenix password request: I don't touch F2, F12, F8, or anything. I cannot work out why it should do this, nor how I can possibly by-pass it. None of my password guesses work (of course). My daughter is a primary school teacher with a school inspection looming in a week: while she has most of her work on a USB stick, there is data on this machine she really needs. Needless to say, tensions are rising.
I have googled all evening, so I know there is no point asking about passwords. But can anyone point me in a helpful direction? I'm baffled and at a loss. Grateful for any help (or hope!).
    David.

    Hi,
Which steps/procedure in that other thread you linked did you do to make it boot without asking for the BIOS password?
I looked through that message briefly, and what I didn't see is that after you get it to boot, you should probably go into the BIOS and reset the BIOS settings to default.
Another possibility is that the BIOS firmware itself may be corrupted, causing it to think that there's a BIOS password set.  If that's the case, you may need to try to flash the BIOS with a known good BIOS, maybe booting from floppy or CD to do the BIOS flash.

  • HP Pavilion dv7 doesn't start and I can't install operating system

    Product: HP Pavilion dv7-1125eo
    p/n: NA034EA#UUW
I had Windows 8.1 Pro and I did a virus scan with Malwarebytes-program but I think that it completed before this and didn't find anything. I were also using Youtube and suddenly my computer turned off and it didn't find my hard disk anymore.
    I got errors like:
    03F0
    hard disk not exist
    boot device not found 3F0
no bootable device--insert boot disk and press any key
Diagnostic log shows that I have had that 03F0 and also 0601 error before, but somehow I made my computer to work again. In BIOS it didn't show that there is hard disk, can't test it, but it was an option in boot order, maybe it is always there I don't know.
I tried a trick that going to BIOS five times and always save changes and exit. That kind of worked and I were able to use Windows like 15 min but then computer turned off.
    Windows repairing things:
Windows Automatic repair -> The drive where Windows is installed is locked. Unlock the drive and try again.
Startup repair -> Startup repair couldn't repair your PC.
I used live Linux Mint from my USB stick and it worked good. I formatted my USB stick and tried to reinstall Windows but if I remember correctly it didn't recognize my hard drive.
I thought that maybe my hard disk is broken and I took my Fujitsu Siemens Storagebird Serial ATA WD 250GB external hard drive out of its case and put it inside my laptop. It fitted there well so I tried to install windows into that. First it didn't recognize that hard drive either but when I tried many times and changed it inside laptop between slot 1 and 2
it finally showed in Windows installation screen. Installing always stopped at 16 or 19% and formatting didn't help.
I also formatted my USB stick and made it installation media again but same thing.
Then I thought that maybe I have wrong Windows 8 Pro product key, an upgrade only so I tried to install Windows Vista because it were a factory installed OS. It either didn't recognize my hard drive in Windows installing screen, but this one can be tested in BIOS.
Taking CMOS battery out for hours and trying with only one memory or both hard disks didn't work.
Do I need to install some drivers from DVD during the Windows installation or is the hard disk connections broken or what is the problem? Can't I repair it by myself?
I'm tired of trying these magic tricks so I really hope that someone can help me. Otherwise I need to buy a new laptop or use it with my USB stick and its live Linux ;( Also battery is dead so it doesn't exist anymore and fan makes noises sometimes and computer gets hot. I'm getting amused when trying to fix it even though almost nothing doesn't work anymore but it's hard to let go of it because I have repaired it so many times and even though it's old it's been working the last year well before this
I didn't know where to post this because I don't know what the real problem is.

    Hey @mnbvc ,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I see you're unable to install Windows on another HDD after experiencing an HDD failure.
The hard drive not found error would indicate the drive has failed. Not being able to test the drive confirms this.
-Source: Resolve Boot Device not Found Error Message.
The upgrade key you use only applies to the Windows Upgrade ISO and will not allow a fresh install of the operating system if it has nothing to build on, so you are correct in trying the Vista install. When you attempt to install VIsta are you using the HP Recovery Media or are you using the Windows Vista ISO? I would assume the drive that was installed in your notebook was larger than 250GB and would explain why an HP Recovery would fail during formatting but would not explain why the install failed if it was a licensed Windows ISO.
Have you tried installing Linux onto the HDD instead of using a USB boot? This will help you test the validity of the HDD.
You can try downloading a version of Windows 8.1 and skip the license key to activate the 30 day trial. (Search Google for Windows 8.1 Pro ISO downloads). Once installed activate Windows using the license key you purchased for an upgrade which theoretically should work.
Let me know if that helps or if installing Linux to the HDD fails as well.

  • New iMac, migrated from macbook and now mail won't work. Tried re-installing operating system, still doesn't work. Can anyone help me to get mail working? thanks

I just bought a new iMac and I thought that it would be simple to migrate from my MacBook.
I have a time machine back-up so I decided to migrate using that. Everything seemed to instal pretty well with the exception of mail.  To begin with I had 2 mail icons, then I started to read some forums and checked that i had the one I wanted in the applications folder, deleted the other and then downloaded the new operating system.  Mail had to be force quit first and even when the download was complete Mail still wouldn't open or run. The only thing I can do is compose a new message, but I can't see my inbox at all.
It's really frustrating and I would love to know in a simple step by step guide how to get mail up and running with my existing migrated emails in it.
If anyone can give me some advice that would be great.
    thanks in advance.

Problems such as yours are sometimes caused by files that should belong to you but are locked or have wrong permissions. This procedure will check for such files. It makes no changes and therefore will not, in itself, solve your problem.
    First, empty the Trash.
Triple-click the line below to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    find ~ $TMPDIR.. \( -flags +sappnd,schg,uappnd,uchg -o ! -user $UID -o ! -perm -600 -o -acl \) 2> /dev/null | wc -l
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). The command may take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear.
The output of this command, on a line directly below what you entered, will be a number such as "41." Please post it in a reply.
