Satellite A300 cpu problem

Hi all, I have got a Satellite A300 running Vista 32-bit
I posted in this forum previously about my reboot loop problem
(http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=77256&stqc=true)
I finally found that my laptop is fine when in safe mode, or when only running on battery
Once I plug in AC power the loop comes back, I saw in another post that disabling both processors in device manager can solve the problem, and it worked for me!
However I would like to do a factory restore since my OS is corrupted quite badly (probably due to virus?), lots of services cannot start and also no internet access
Problem is when I do factory recovery, the processor driver will probably get installed at some point then my laptop will go into the loop again and never able to finish the recovery?
I tried other OS like ubuntu but problem still exist so I am sure it is not OS problem.
So I would like to know:
1. Whats the difference of CPU running mode in safe mode/battery only mode/AC power mode?
2. What does the processor driver do? What happen when I disabled them?
3. Any way to set the CPU mode in BIOS? (so I can keep the recovery process working) (I tried "dynamic/always low" and disable "multi core processing", no help)
I have been trying to fix my laptop for weeks, your help is much appreciated!

> Problem is when I do factory recovery, the processor driver will probably get installed at some point then my laptop will go into the loop again and never able to finish the recovery?
I think this will always happen whether you install the system using recovery disk or clean MS disk.
> 1. Whats the difference of CPU running mode in safe mode/battery only mode/AC power mode?
First of all if you run the notebook is safe mode, only some essential system processes would be load and many non-core components are disabled.
The CPU supports also different power saving modes (C1, C2, C3) in order to save energy
Each CPU has several power modes and they are collectively called C-states or C-modes.
> 2. What does the processor driver do? What happen when I disabled them?
Its an essential system driver. Without the CPU driver, the system would not recognize the CPU properly and the CPU cores.
> . Any way to set the CPU mode in BIOS? (so I can keep the recovery process working) (I tried "dynamic/always low" and disable "multi core processing", no help)
No.
The CPU seems to be the troublemaker and i guess it needs to be replaced

  • Satellite A300-202 - problems with the AC power

    Hi,
I bought a Satellite A300-202 a couple of months ago and I'm having intermittent problems with the AC power.
Sometimes I plug the AC power and it won't start charging (the indicator leds are off and windows says it is on battery). Other times it is charging and suddenly stops.
I suspected it could be the cord broken in the inside but it seems to also happen when no one touches it. Usually, when it stops charging, I unplug it from the wall, wait a few seconds and plug it back in, and it starts charging fine never stopping again.
Anyone got a similar problem? I wonder if is there any way to just replace the AC power parts so I won't have to send the whole laptop for reparing.
    Thanks
    Pedro

    Hi
I never had a problem with my Toshiba chargers but one old non-Toshiba AC adaptor died after 6 month of usage. After the replacement it works without any problems.
I think you should check the BIOS update as mentioned by Akuma but for me it sounds more like a AC adaptor issue.
So if the BIOS update doesnt help, the AC adaptor should be checked definitely.

  • Satellite A300-210 problem with touchpad

My touchpad stop working after reboot.
I checked ctrl +F9 and that not work.
I downloaded new drivers, but old should be ok.
I tried on linux ubuntu and it do not work too.
    What should i do?

    Hi
    > I downloaded new drivers, but old should be ok.
Are you sure that touchpad driver is installed ok?
Please go to device manager, choose Synaptics PS/2 touchpad and delete this from the list.
Then reboot the unit and try to install the touchpad again.
You should also go to control panel -> mouse -> pointing device and should check all the settings there.
To be honest i don't think that this could be an hardware problem... i think it's software releated and therefore you need to check all this settings.

  • Satellite A300-1DB CPU Fan is annoying, too loud

    Hi all,
I bought a Toshiba Satellite A300-1DB today in a German (580 Euro) and i really like the notebook design and performance, but there is one big problem I can't bear anymore (and I just used it for 2 hours).
The CPU Fan on the left side of notebook is so annoyning: Even if I keep the notebook idle (CPU activity is very low, just under 10% and 1 gb ram used), the CPU fan keeps spinning for one minute really really loudly.
After that there is silence, such a beautiful silence.... for 2 minutes. And then the whole procedure starts over and over again. Just cold air comes out.
Thats drive me crazy, the CPU Fan in the idle modus is louder than my other Satellite A210-106 Turion X2-52 L with full CPU activity. I wish to have a CPU fan that keeps spinning in a low sound.
Do you have any ideas how to control the fan????
Otherwise i must try to replace it with another Notebook (I hope that they allow that, unfortunatly it isn't a Internet shop where you can send it back until 14 days)
    Regards,
    Dieter

I have managed this successfully using balanced power plan and using Battery optimized option for Cooling method. This setting you can find under Advanced power settings > Toshiba Power Saver utility.

  • Cooling problems with Satellite A300-1B0: ventilator is not stopping

    Hi users,
    i m new in Linux and Ubuntu, i installed ubuntu 8.10 last week;
All things are ok, boot menu ok because i have XP, network connection ethernet and wireless, updates ok, packages ok!
just one thing that make me "" it's the cooling ventilator of my laptop, i explain :
it's turned on since i login ubuntu and it will be off only when i log off "shutt down" my laptop, so it's never stopping till
the use of ubuntu, because with xp it's start but if the processor is cold it's stop! and restart and etc.......
So if someone have an idea you're WELCOME !
    My laptop configuration :
    TOSHIBA satellite A300-1B0
    processor: core 2 duo T8100 2.1 Ghz
    RAM: 3 Go
    SATA hard drive
    ethernet Marvell Yukon 88E8040T
    Wireless Intel
and i have patched it with the last bios from toshiba site
Date of the bios publcation 07 2008 v3.7

    Hi,
I own a Toshiba Satellite A300-19T which comes with a Core 2 Duo T8100, 3Gb of RAM and an ATI Radeon HD 3650 graphics card and guess what? I'm having the same issue!
I have spent a fairly nice amount of time trying to figure out what's going on and I've been suspecting the CPU fan for a long time. I went from enumerating the custom drivers Toshiba is installing the the machine to de-compiling the ACPI table using Intel's tools: NOTHING! (expect the fact that the BIOS isn't really ACPI compliant but much more Microsoft Windows Vista only compliant).
Then I discovered that the GPU (the Radeon HD 3650) may also have a fan attached to it to cool it down, because you know, it can be such a source of heat and that noise under Linux means that the GPU fan is actually spinning all the time, non stop, causing discomfort, a lot of noise and all. To prove this, I made a simple experiment, I went back to Windows Vista and uninstalled the ATI Catalyst driver (you can reinstall them later, they are located in C:\Toshiba folder) and rebooted the machine: I had the fan spinning all the time under Vista just like Linux!
What is causing the issue is the GPU, not the CPU! and it's due to bad GPU power management on Linux since a driver doesn't exist yet. The only way to solve this is by asking Toshiba to release the documentation about the GPU power management and fan control, so that the community can write a driver for it.
Could you please confirm my finding? Which graphics card do you have installed in your laptop?

    Ilyes Gouta.

  • Satellite Pro A300 PSAGDA: Problems installing webcam on Win 7

    Hi there guys,
its been a few weeks since installing Windows 7, only for the last few days have i actually bothered to install toshiba software (dont stone me!).
Right now I've been scratching my head when installing the webcam drivers. When the install is done and after a reset, all it says is Webcam failed to initialize, please restart cam or computer.
Restarting the laptop wont do anything
I am using a Toshiba Satellite pro A300 PSAGDA-01C00R, do these drivers simply not work for the time being on 7?
any help would be great, thanks!

    Hello
I have installed THIS version of webcam driver on my Win7 preinstalled Satellite A300 and it works perfectly.
I have tested preinstalled software and it runs well. I have also tested it with Skype. No problems at all.
Test it on your Satellite too.

  • Satellite A300 (PSAG8E) - Hardware problems after installing win7 ultimate

    Hello and good day,
I've installed win7 ultimate a few days ago and windows managed to recognize most of my hardware accept my build in mic and camera and another component I am not sure about what it is (Windows update automatically downloaded the sound and graphics driver for me).
My questions are - where can find the remaining drivers and where can I get the preinstalled Toshiba tools and software? (The driver site in the Toshiba support page does not include those drivers and software)
    Thank you very much
    Roi Ben Simon

    Hi
I have Satellite A300 (PSAG8E) too and installed Win7 Home premium and everything works perfect.
At first I must say that I don't know where you have searched drivers and Toshiba tools and utilities because all stuff is downloadable on Toshiba support & download page under http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com
It is logic that mic will not work if you didn't installed proper driver. Install drivers alone and not using Microsoft update. What you need are real and tested drivers and not some free drivers from internet.
Go to Toshiba download page and install all stuff following this installations order:
    -Win7
    -chipset driver
    -storage manager
    -display driver
    -sound driver
    -modem driver
    -supervisor utility
    -infrared
    -patches
    -configfree
    -VAP
    -toshiba hardware setup
    -HDMI control
    -WLAN driver
Everything works well but missing some drivers
    Added Vista stuff:
    -Toshiba assist - work properly
    -Card reader - installed properly
-Webcam driver for A500 - tested with Skype - work properly.
    -Synaptics driver

    Hello
Im wondering that you want to upgrade to 8GB RAM... Normally 3 or 4GB should be more as enough for all applicaions at the moment.
Anyway, as Jayjay said its not possible to upgrade to 8GB. A friend of me has a Satellite A300 and the user manual says that it can upgrade to 4GB or 2GB (depending on the chipset). So if you have a PM965/GM965/RS690M chipset you can upgrade it to 4GB. Otherwise you can only use up to 2GB.
I have upgraded my Toshiba notebook with Kingston RAM. This is high quality RAM and has a good compatibility. I never had problems with such modules.
    Check this!!

  • New battery is not detected on Satellite A300

    Hello every body
I had this problem with my laptop Satellite A300 (PSAJ4E). I bought a new battery and started my laptop. I have Windows Vista.
The battery is not detected. When I remove the charger its work well but with indicator of low battery so Im update my BIOS but the problem is still there.
So I look around and tried to disable Microsoft in device manger.
Still not fixed properly. I removed charger and insert it again.
It shows the AC power supply but no charge.

    hi king_soft,
    sold a third party battery?
in some cases the used controller (battery) is not recognised by your system...
you can try this (without any promisses):
shut down notebook, remove battery, connect ac-adapter and make sure unit is powered
    insert battery and wait 24hours
    disconnect ac-adapter and remove battery
switch machine on to make it fully discharged (some components holding electricity)
insert battery and start the unit
check powermanager or energy options if the battery is recognised...
never open up a battery pack - it's really dangerous!
if the battery pack is recognised by the system - you won!
if not make sure that your ac-adapter supplies the right voltage/current to your system
test another battery to make sure the loading device (notebook) is working properly
    if so exchange battery pack!

  • How to use right keyboard symbols on Satellite A300?

I have just recently purchesed a Toshiba Satellite A300.
The system details are as follows:
    Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 Duo CPU T5850 @ 2.16 GHz 2.17 GHZ
Operating System: Windows Vista Home Premium 32-Bit.
    Memory Ram: 3.00GB.
Anywho, it cost 879 Euro + postage and handling. The problem is the keyboard. The keyboard language is set to English (US). For who knows what reason, some of the keys do not enter their designed symbol/function/numeral.
For example, in order to make the symbol ''@'' i have to use the corresponding key sequence SHIFT+','
    But when i press SHIFT + 2 i get ''
I cant figure out why, but i cannot even get it to work. A lot of the keys are out of whack. I haven't touched anything, i only got it over a week ago. It cost me a lot and i can't seem to find any support. I had a technician look at it, but he was unable to figure it out.
I've tried holding down ALTGR and shift and pressing INSERT and everything but to no avail.
PLEASE, i need to figure out how i can ressolve this issue, i cant access one of my email accounts, because i can't figure out whats wrong with the keyboard.
my email address is [email protected]

    Hi
The solution is easy. You have to change the keyboard language to English UK.
Check this Microsoft page [How to change the keyboard layout|http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Windows/en-US/help/765a7264-b593-4458-90cf-0d0713b5dfe61033.mspx]

  • Satellite A300-Y00 black screen but fan starting

I bought a TOSHIBA satellite A300/Y00 in June 2008, i.e. 16 months ago. Model number PSAGOA-02Y. After ten months it suddenly did not boot. It sounds like the CPU and the fan is starting but the screen and the led below the screen were all black. I tried to connect it to an external monitor but that screen was black too. I gave it to Toshiba for 2 weeks (!) who said it was the motherboard. They replaced it for free as it was still under warranty.
A few weeks ago the same thing happened again. I turned it off and for some random reason it started as usual a few hours later. I called Toshiba to say that I think the computer will crash soon again. They said they could take it in for service but if they could not find anything wrong with it they would charge me x dollars. I did not give it in for service. I even went to a local Toshiba support guy who said he could not find anything wrong with my computer and that there was nothing he could do.
Now the same thing is happening again. This time I can't get it to start again. Of course their fantastic 3 months warranty for the last motherboard has expired. I tried to take out the battery and start it only on power but it does not help.
I don't want to pay $500 for a new motherboard and then have it breaking down again. It is obvious it is a hardware problem and I think Toshiba should replace my computer without charges.
Anyone with similar problems? Any advice? Getting pretty annoyed....

    Hello!
Have you already contacted the authorized service provider again? If not, do it please! You should speak with the technicians again and then you will see what they can do for you.
I can understand you that this is annoyed but such things can happen and I think the ASP will do the best to help you. To be honest I have good experience with my ASP. The repair goes very fast and the technicians are very friendly and competent. Its always nice to talk with them a little bit.
Im not a technician but maybe they can repair it as a gesture of goodwill or you have only to pay the mainboard and not the exchange

  • Satellite A300 - High temperatures and overheating

    Hey there
I own Toshiba Satellite A300 for one year.Lately I have noticed overheating.
In the idle the lowest temperature I have measured using HW Monitor was 60C for CPU, 50C for GPU, 42C for HDD. When I have more applications opened it rises to 83C for CPU and 62C for GPU, during witch system performance is pretty slow. Bottom part of housing is quite hot even keyboard is hot and it's quite uncomfortable.
Any idea where could be a problem? Should I put it into service? Thanks for reponses.
    Andrew

    Hi
You should not send it to an authorized service provider you should clean your notebook from time to time!!!
I recommended compressed air spray. Blow gently and shortly the air trough the holes of the case of the machine where the air flows trough. This could remove the dust from the cooling ventilators.
This procedure should be performed every 3-4 months to ensure a proper operation and avoid system errors.
I always used compressed air spray and I never had problems as yet.
