Satellite A300 - Function taskbar doesn't appear anymore on Windows 7

I have problem with FN button. It was worked when the operating system was vista, but after I upgrade my operating system to Windows 7 the function task bar that should appear at the top of screen when I press FN bottom does`t appear!
So, can you tell me how I can solve this problem, please?
My Laptop mode is Satellite A300-29N

I had the same problem after upgrade to Windows 7 but the solution was pretty easy: I have searched a little bit here in forum and founded out to install the newest Toshiba Value Added Package.

I assume you mean the flash cards they appear if you press a FN key. Im right?!
In this case you should try reinstalling Toshiba Value Added Package. You can download it here:

After reinstalling the flash cards should appear again and in my case this worked! :)

Satellite X200 20G - Fn pop-up screen doesn't appear anymore

(I made a post on this subject yesterday evening but I cannot find it anywhere.... sorry if both appear later)
I would need your help as the pop-up screen with the Function keys doesn't appear anymore when I place the cursor on the top of my screen....
I don't think I have changed any settings. I have installed the SP1 for Vista but I cannot tell if this is linked.
I found Toshiba "Accessibility", but when I click on the accessibility icon, I get a Toshiba Accessibility Error screen telling "This system, can not use Toshiba Accessibility" ...
Could you please advise?

I Have a X200-212 running Vista w/out SP1.
When I was upgrading drivers(after i buy it) i somehow lost the FN function and the popup toolbar. That happened after i installed or update(dont remenber) the toshiba bluetooth stack.
I unisntalled the toshiba bluetooth stack and installed the windows vista bluetooth support as an alternative, and the FN thingy started to work again.
But in your case im guessing its something related to the sp1 ?:| ,lets see if Toshiba updates the X200 drivers to support the Vista SP1.

If i selected to "Create a new backup" and then cancelled that option but want to go back and select "Inherit backup history"; how do i go back and do that since now when i plug in my HD, that option doesn't appear anymore?? Any Help?

I didn't understand the option to Inherit or start a new back up, and therefore selected the option to create a new backup. I believe I should have selected to Inherit backup history so that when i back it up on the new MackBook Air, it appears the same as the one I'm returning.... Is there anyway that i can re-select the option to Inherit backup history for time machine?

6 year-old battery makes horrible sounds, the charging light doesn't appear anymore

Hello!
My battery (and my laptop HP Pavillion zt3019ea) are 6 years old and for few weeks now my battery has made horrible sounds (like a loud mosquito) when connected to the charger. When it's not connected to the charger the sounds stop but it looks like the battery hasn't been charged at all.
The charging light doesn't appear anymore, or very rarely.
Is it the end??!
Is it worth buying a new battery for a 6 year-old laptop (i already changed the hard drive few months ago)?

I will definately recommend buying a new battery for the unit since you still work on your notebook.
It is bettery to buy geniune spares from HP than buying third party spares as you will have a warranty on the battery purchased.
Although I am an HP Employee, I am speaking for myself and not for HP.

Use Software Update or the OS 10.6.8 combo update to update your OS. Also, update everything SU has to offer for your computer. When done, repair permissions and restart your computer.

Good morning, I hope you could help me on the following:
I have just noticed that when I place the cursor at the top of the screen, the pop-up screen with the functions keys no longer appears...
What did I do??? I don't think I have made any change to the settings.... I have installed the Vista SP1 but I couldn't tell you if the problem has just followed this installation (sorry). I usually don't use this functionality, I would even say that usually it annoys me a lot, but now that it doesn't work anymore, I miss it and I would say I discover a lot a usefulness to this feature...
How to get it back? That is the question.
I have looked in the Toshiba screens, I found Toshiba "Accessibility", but when I hit this icon I get a 'Toshiba Accessibility Error" pop-up screen telling: "This system can not use "Toshiba Accessibility" ".
Could you please advice?

Hello *marina4000* , first of all thank you very much for coming into my post.
Second, I really think you have identified the area where the problem is.... I would have never looked into the "flashcards" area as to me this was related to memory cards...
You were right, I found in the Toshiba folder, Utilities, the Flashcards related topics. I hit "Restart Flash Cards" and the bar at the top of the screen appeared again, GREAT!....
But, as unfortunately there is a "but", the bar didn't appear at the next boot. I went back to the menu and found a line called "Settings for Flash Cards". It opened me a window where I found a box called "Disable all functions keys" but it was unchecked. I then checked this box, hit OK, then again uncheck it and clicked OK and the bar appeared, but again, at the next boot, it was not present...
It looks as if this is the right direction to dig into, but there is still something to fix so the bar is loaded at boot time.
I am hectic to read your next post!

Touch Pad of Satellite P50-A-M13 doesn't work anymore - Solution

before someone should have the same problem, I wanted to share my problem and my solution here:
Information about my system:
I have installed Windows 8.1 Professional and Scientific Linux 6.5 in Dual Boot on my Toshiba Satellite P50-A-M13.
_*Problem:*_
The Touch Pad suddenly doesn't work below Windows 8.1 Professional anymore, the mouse pointer vanishes after a reboot. You can't deactivate/activate the Touch Pad with the F5 key (without pressing the FN-button) anymore. The white LED of the Touch Pad doesn't work anymore. Another operating system (in my case: Scientific Linux) in Dual Boot doesn't recognize the Touch Pad anymore after a reboot, too. So it isn't working below the other operating system anymore, too. It looks like a hardware defect since it affects more than one operating system.
_*Additional information:*_
If you attach an external USB mouse to your Toshiba notebook, the Touch Pad will work again, you can activate/deactivate the Touch Pad via the F5 key (without pressing the FN-button) below Windows 8.1 again, but the white LED of the Touch Pad still doesn't work and doesn't turn off or on. Same below another operating system in Dual Boot. The BIOS doesn't offer a feature that you can activate or deactivate the Touch Pad there.
Reason:
I had the problem that the feature "automatic driver installation" below Windows 8.1 Professional was activated. The driver for the Synaptic Touch Pad got replaced by a Microsoft driver in the background automatically.
_*Solution:*_
_Keep the external USB mouse attached and start Windows 8.1 if it isn't started already. Then deactivate feature "automatic driver installation" below Windows 8.1. Then reinstall the Synaptic Touch Pad driver from the download page of Toshiba website again. Then reboot Windows. The Touch Pad should work then again. And never, never activate the feature "automatic driver installation" below Windows 8.1 again!_

My ipod nano 6th gen doesn't appear anymore in iTunes since firmware update.

My IPod nano was upgraded to the firmware update to 1.2.
I've lost all my music on it during the firmware upgrade (not sure this is normal).
I can't see it anymore in ITunes. I got some windows blue screen when trying to solve the problem.
I've tried to uninstall-reinstall all Apple products on my windows 7 (following the apple support, with bonjour, quicktime, ...).
I've also tried to connect it on 2 other fresh windows machines, but it doesn't appear either ...
I've tried with other software but impossible to use because the first libray must be created with iTunes.
The iPod seems normal and the screen is reactive ... but I can't use it without any music on it.
I've reset my ipod with no luck. Tried in disk mode also, .... what can I do more ?
I cannot restore it because it's not visible in iTunes.

BTMM orange. Miniserver doesn't appear anymore.

We used to have a perfect working file sharing server that we could access as well locally as remotely. For about one week now, the miniserver doesn't appear when connecting remotely anymore. This started to happen after I accessed the server to do two things
1- Upgrade to 10.6.7
2- I kept receiving a "Miniserver.local certificate is void" or something of that style. So I went into the certificate manager and tried to update the certificate, didn't really manage to, probably did something stupid... whatever
The point is that from that moment I could not access the server remotely anymore.
Any suggestions (apart from going back to school and learn more about unix based servers, which I will not do...

Pending an update from Apple, y'all probably need to [update your timezone rules|http://juretta.com/log/2007/10/05/newzealand_daylight_saving_time_change_mac_os_x_andjava> to match the current scheme for the switch-over.
Do have a full disk backup before making these changes, just in case.
And FWIW, if using Miniserver.local as your DNS host name for your server (outside of Bonjour), then that tends to cause things in DNS to go wonky; that .local top-level domain (TLD) is best left exclusive to Bonjour, and you'll want to establish your own DNS services in your own registered domain or (less desirably) in a completely bogus domain. Multicast DNS (mDNS, Bonjour) doesn't mix all that well with unicast (classic) DNS.

Satellite A300 - S-video doesn't detect TV

Last week, I bought your new product: Toshiba Satellite A300
I liked its specifications specially the s-video output.
When I reached my house, I connected it to my TV:

I used S-Video to RCA Cable:

I then set the TV to the mode which I used to use for another laptop.
I kept clicking Fn+F5 on the satelite laptop with no use.
Nothing was displayed on the TV screem.
Before, I used to connect HP Pavilion dv2000 to the same TV using its s-video and it worked fine.
Please advice how to fix this issue.

Usually it should work.
Both devices should be OFF. Then connect notebook and TV using this cable.
Power up the TV and boot up the notebook.
If the usage of FN+F5 will not detect the picture on the TV then I would recommend checking the settings in your graphic card properties.
I dont know what graphic card you have but my Satellite notebook has been equipped with the Intel graphic card and I can change the settings in control panel -> Intel graphic card media accelerator.
Maybe your notebook supports ATI card. So such settings could be found in ATI catalyst.
PS: Check if you are using the latest BIOS and latest graphic card driver too.

Satellite C55-A-1DC doesn't start anymore

My computer doesn't start anymore!
When I push the on button, everything is going like it supposed to go,until you see the screen with:

Leading Innovation >>>
And then it just stays stuck at that for a while, and then it just goes black!!

Are you able to access the BIOS?
Check this by pressing the F2 button after powering on the unit.
If this isnt possible, there must be some kind of hardware problem (motherboard, RAM).
In case you could access the BIOS, check the first BIOS page. Usually the HDD should be listed there. HDD name, size information should be visible.
In case this HDD isnt listed, I assume your HDD is faulty and should be replaced.
Of course, you would need to reinstall the system once again.
In case the HDD is listed in BIOS, I would recommend you to boot using the Recovery disk (or another Windows installation disk) in order to reinstall the system.

Function key drop-down doesn't appear anymore

When i press the Fn Key the computer no longer displays the drop down menu that it used to. The function key still works but I can no longer see what function i have selected.
How can I resolve this??

The Flash Card Support Utility controls this FN button and the menu on the screen so you should check if Flash Card restart would help you to sort out this issue.
If not, try to reinstall the VAP (value added package) and the Flash Card Utility (if available for download)

ITunes 9.0 toolbar in the Windows Taskbar doesn't work anymore

Anyone else having this problem? The iTunes window disappears and the usual toolbar interface shows on the taskbar but the controls have no functionality. You click them and nothing happens - you can't even get the normal iTunes window back unless you have the system tray icon on. Worked before with iTunes 8 and it seems to be a problem all versions of Windows. I've tried it on XP, Vista and 7 and they all had the same problem.

This can happen if the iTunes COM interface is not registered. To fix this, follow these steps
1. Quit iTunes.
2. Navigate to where iTunes.exe resides on the hard disk:
\Program Files\iTunes
or
\Program Files (x86)\iTunes
3. Right-click in the Address field at the top of the Windows Explorer window and choose Copy Address.
4. From the Windows Start menu, type cmd in the Search field and press Enter.
XP users will need to choose Run... from the Start menu, type cmd and press Enter
5. Type cd followed by a space (but don't press Enter)
6. Right-click in the window and choose Paste.
7. Press Enter.
8. Type this:
iTunes.exe /regserver
9. Press enter.
10. Open iTunes.
Does this fix it?
