Satellite A300 - High temperatures and overheating

Hey there
I own Toshiba Satellite A300 for one year.Lately I have noticed overheating.
In the idle the lowest temperature I have measured using HW Monitor was 60C for CPU, 50C for GPU, 42C for HDD. When I have more applications opened it rises to 83C for CPU and 62C for GPU, during witch system performance is pretty slow. Bottom part of housing is quite hot even keyboard is hot and it's quite uncomfortable.
Any idea where could be a problem? Should I put it into service? Thanks for reponses.
Andrew

Hi
You should not send it to an authorized service provider you should clean your notebook from time to time!!!
I recommended compressed air spray. Blow gently and shortly the air trough the holes of the case of the machine where the air flows trough. This could remove the dust from the cooling ventilators.
This procedure should be performed every 3-4 months to ensure a proper operation and avoid system errors.
I always used compressed air spray and I never had problems as yet.
Bye

  • GTX 560Ti Hawk high temperature and noise

First of all I want to say "Hi" because this is my first post here!
Second, I have problems with my GTX 560Ti Hawk! The problems are high temperature and very loud fans! I bought this card less than a month ago and it didn't work properly from the first day but I wanted to give it a chance so I kept it for a while so I could monitor symptoms. I haven't even tried to OC it. I monitored it the way it came from the box.
In idle card doesn't go over 40°C which is fine by me considering the weather but when I play games it goes all the way to 85°C and it's loud as jet taking off! It's is pretty much intolerable to be near this card when playing games! This product is advertised to be very cold and very silent but now that isn't the case. What bothers me most is that the card was running on open bench table which has very good air cooling ( I made it myself and decreased ~10°C compared to my case). That means that my Hawk would have burned if tested inside the case, or it would fly away!! :D
Everything is good until card hits 76°C - that's tolerable temperature and the card is still silent, but when it hits 76°C and goes up, all hell breaks loose!
Card doesn't crash and it runs perfectly (got performance increase ~30% from my GTX 460) but way higher temperatures and noise above advertised makes me wanting to crash it with a sledgehammer! :D
I RMA it today and waiting for answer which should arrive in two weeks tops (quick when taking money but very slow when support is needed)
I wanted to ask if RMA is even possible when card isn't crashing??? I RMA cards with similar problems before with no problems but that was Gigabyte - not sure what can I expect with MSI because this is my first MSI product since 2003. RMA should be possible because card has failed to fulfill expectations which are guarantied by MSI...
If they refuse to send another card or return the money, what should I do???
    Computer specs:
    AMD Phenom 2 X4 955BE
    Gigabyte GA-790XTA-UD4
2x2 GB DDR3 Mushkin Blackline Stiletto
MSI GTX 560Ti Hawk (previously owned Gigabyte GTX 460 768MB which never went above 65°C even highly OC-ed)
    Seasonic 620-GM
Patriot Pyro 60GB and WD 640GB Green
    Thank you!

  • Satellite A300 - Windows 7 causing overheating

    Hey all,
i have a toshi A300/y01 (psagca - 02y010) and have recently upgraded to windows 7 64bit , since upgrading i've been unable to find a toshiba power saver utility that is compatible with win 7, and my pc has been getting alot hotter then it did a few days ago under vista, i've been into power options and configured power plan to maximum performance under heating, tho is no change. also when i turn the pc on the fan does not seem to do its test spin as fast as it did.
There is still hot air coming from the vent on the left, and hasn't shutdown due to exessive heat, tho have not heard the fan kick in like it used to and laptop base and hand rests are getting alot hotter then they ever have before.
Have been to a few diff forums that suggest varying things like fan.exe tho from other comments i've read it doesn't seem to recognise toshiba fans, am planning on pulling the base off in the next few days and checking dust build up, tho this may explain raised heat doesn't explain why fan is working differently under new OS and why heat has jumped up so much coinciding with the change.
If anyone has any suggestions pls help!

I have European Satellite A300-1LI and last week I installed Win7 as clean installation, no update.
I must say that notebook runs well and I didn't notice much difference to Vista. Notebook runs pretty quiet. I must also say that my notebook is Win7 supported and I have installed Win7 VAp that includes Toshiba power saver.
Have you checked Toshiba download page for your country? Is your notebook model fully supported for Win7?
Try to use balanced power plan. Performance will be reduced but also CPU and graphic activity and I presume notebook will not produce so much heat as under high performance power plan where the hardware is is request to run on maximum level.
If the Toshiba power saver is installed on your notebook you can find it on same place as under Vista. There you can change settings for cooling method.

  • Iphone 3Gs high temperature and low batterie performance

    Hello,
This is my first question here, so I'm sorry if I doing something wrong.
About a week ago my iPhone 3Gs is demonstrating very high temperature, at any location (inside my pocket, over my desk e etc...) and situation (it happens even in airplane mode), not enough to a overheat warning dough. And his battery dies in about 1 hour, no matter what I do. I've done a recovery and its came back to normal for 2 days, but after that the heat and battery problem has returned.
    Could any body help me?

    xboxbmliphone wrote:
... I would just run the phone for a couple days without any apps, music, vids, just to make sure it still is working ok...
    Recommended!
Hot phone and battery drain, cause of both together, is some hardware defect as a micro short-circuit (the phone dropped in water, as example) or an app who have a bug who let it eat all the energy (keep on localization services, as example).
Let the phone hard reboot, too, to remove any crazy process left in.
If you still have the issue with nothing running on (please make sure really nothing is on, neither background apps or itunes songs or anything else), most likely is hardware defect and you need service, as pointed above.

  • Satellite A100 - high temperature

    Hello,
I have an A100 less than one year old and I noticed from the beginning that it has a tendency to be very hot (I almost get burned just putting my hand below the on/off button.
At first I didn't bother too much but now it's getting worse. I have run an Everest test and it says 89C for the processor temperature?!
    Please advise.
    Thanks and best regards

    Hi
Well what to say... in fact the temperature is a little bit high but the notebook supports an overheating protection and should shuts down automatically if the temperature increases the critical level.
You said the temperature is higher on the notebook side where the power button is placed??
This is nothing unusual because on this notebook side the cooling modules and the CPU are placed.
There is an air circulation and the warm air flows outside.
The notebook bottom and the side are always warmer as the other notebook case parts.
Therefore it's not advisable to use the notebook on the knees but only on the desk!!
You should always be sure that there is enough free space around the notebook for properly fresh air circulation.
You know, after one year of working the dust and debris could has a bad influence on the fan rotation and notebook cooling.
Maybe it's necessary to clean the cooling modules professionally. In such case you should ask a technician for the help!

  • Satellite A300 - dvd, usb and card reader will not work

    Help required please.
Have a A300 Satellite laptop, running vista.
Until a couple of weeks ago all good, then noticed the dvd/cd did not recognized and disc in it. The card reader cannot find anything on the card (and yes the card was full).
The usb scanner is recognized as a external memory card and the other usb port does not fuction.
I have not installed or cannot remember changing settings or doing anything out of the usually.
Any help or thoughts would be appreciated.

    Hi
    Your posting is very confusing.
    > Until a couple of weeks ago all good, then noticed the dvd/cd did not recognized and disc in it.
Well, there are many reasons for that; it could be possible that inserted disk is not fully compatible. Try different disks from different manufacturers.
It could be also possible that laser lens of the ODD is dirty. In such case you could clean it using a cotton-wool tip and alcohol. In my case this helped.
    > The card reader cannot find anything on the card (and yes the card was full).
Did you use a compatible card? The notebook handles these cards:
    SD Card 8MB - 2GB
    SDHC Card - 4GB
    xD picture card - 16MB-2GB
    Memory Stick - 8MB-256MB
    Memory Stick Pro - 256MB-2GB
    MultiMediaCard - 8MB-1GB
miniSD (with SD adapter) - 32MB-2GB
I would also recommend to format the card and to copy some files from computer and then to test this.
You could also reinstall and update the driver for card reader controller...
    > The usb scanner is recognized as a external memory card
Cannot believe that You should use a scanner software (should be provided with the scanner) and should test this device. By the way; mostly a scanner driver needs to be installed in order to use this

  • Mac Mini 2010 Aluminum Temperatures and Overheating

I shut down my 2010 Mac mini right before going to bed. In the morning, I noticed that the Mini did not completely shut down. It was stuck on an all blue screen. I had to force quit and restart.
When I restarted I noticed that the temps were VERY high. I wonder if the Mini can still shut it self down when it is stuck on the last blue screen before it turns off?
    Second:
The Mac was vey hot when I touched it. I felt like it needed to be cooled down.
I took an all aluminum pot from the kitchen that has a very thick very flat and smooth bottom, filled it with crushed ice and felt the bottom. WOW was it cold. So, I placed the pot on top of the mini. In about 2 minutes I got:
    Ambient Air 22ºC
    CPU A Heatsink 30ºC
    CPU A Proximity 28ºC
    CPU A Temperature Diode 32ºC
    CPU Core 1 32ºC
    CPU Core 2 30ºC
    Hard Drive Bay 1 21ºC
    Main Logic Board 28ºC
    Memory Bank A Point 1 26ºC
    Northbrldge Chip 30ºC
    Northbrldge Chip 34ºC
    Northbrldge Position 1 51ºC
    Opilcal Drive 19ºC
Has anyone tried that before? Or am I the only idiot?

Knowing you can set your TV to 1:1 pixel mapping is a huge step in the right direction, and should allow you to avoid issues of the image going beyond the edges of your screen. You should not experience a blurry image overall with that setting, but you may have to do some adjusting to get fonts to look acceptable on your TV. If your primary use will be with Plex however, this may not be a concern at all.

  • High temperature and fan speed in ML

After upgrading to ML my MacBook Pro gets extremely hot, around 90 degrees, within a minute out of nowhere with the fans racing at 6200 rpm. This doesn't even help cooling it down one little bit. I already tried to shut down my laptop and reset the SMC which only solves the problem temporarily.
Does anyone else have this problem, and if so is there a solution at all or is it just a software issue that Apple is, hopefully, resolving soon?

If you can, open Activity Monitor and see what's using up all the %CPU.
If its kernel_task, shutdown immediately and do a PRAM reset, like this:
    1. Power down the machine.
    2. Locate the following keys on your keyboard in preparation for Step 4:
    ‘command’ – ‘option’ – ‘P’ – ‘R’
    3. Press the ‘power on’ button.
    4. Immediately – and before the grey screen appears – hold down ‘command-option-P-R’ all together.
    5. Keep them held down until you’ve heard the start-up chime twice. After you release them you should hear it again, and hopefully your Mac will boot up as it should and with the kernel_task process back to normal.
If that's not it, try quitting whatever the process is by selecting it in the Activity monitor window, then 'Quit' in the task bar. If the process refuses to quit, post back with the name of the process.

  • Satellite A300 and Windows 7 - missing "Create a disk" option

    Hi.
I installed windows 7 professional in my laptop A300 - 15C (PSAJ4E) two weeks ago and i have a problem.
I Installed all drivers for win 7 from the official site of toshiba and i can't see the option of "Create a disk" where i can install the firmware update.
So, my laptop hasn't install the firmware updates and it's very slow on the boot.
    Any idea about this problem?

As I can see your posting is mix of three different issues but described in two sentences.
Can we please discuss about each issue separately?
At first I must say that I have installed Win7 on my Satellite A300-1LI successfully and I am happy with performance and must say that all hardware components run perfectly.
    So, back to your notebook:
    # What do you mean with "Create a disk" option? Maybe you think on some preinstalled Toshiba tool, I don't know exactly. The fact is that Toshiba offers many useful tools and utilities with factory settings only and such tools cannot be downloaded and installed additionally.
    # Firmware update? Do you really need this? I don't think so. Have you noticed some problems with optical disc drive?
    # Slow boot-up? Have you installed all listed drivers for Win7 especially chipser dtiver and storage manager? Please note that SATA settings in BIOS must be set to AHCI mode.

  • Satellite A300 (PSAG8E) - Hardware problems after installing win7 ultimate

    Hello and good day,
I've installed win7 ultimate a few days ago and windows managed to recognize most of my hardware accept my build in mic and camera and another component I am not sure about what it is (Windows update automatically downloaded the sound and graphics driver for me).
My questions are - where can find the remaining drivers and where can I get the preinstalled Toshiba tools and software? (The driver site in the Toshiba support page does not include those drivers and software)
    Thank you very much
    Roi Ben Simon

    Hi
I have Satellite A300 (PSAG8E) too and installed Win7 Home premium and everything works perfect.
At first I must say that I don't know where you have searched drivers and Toshiba tools and utilities because all stuff is downloadable on Toshiba support & download page under http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com
It is logic that mic will not work if you didn't installed proper driver. Install drivers alone and not using Microsoft update. What you need are real and tested drivers and not some free drivers from internet.
Go to Toshiba download page and install all stuff following this installations order:
    -Win7
    -chipset driver
    -storage manager
    -display driver
    -sound driver
    -modem driver
    -supervisor utility
    -infrared
    -patches
    -configfree
    -VAP
    -toshiba hardware setup
    -HDMI control
    -WLAN driver
Everything works well but missing some drivers
    Added Vista stuff:
    -Toshiba assist - work properly
    -Card reader - installed properly
-Webcam driver for A500 - tested with Skype - work properly.
    -Synaptics driver

    Hi
    Regarding the Toshiba Control Media buttons;
You have to install the Toshiba Controls from the Toshiba European driver page.
Check there the Satellite A300 PSAG8E series and download the Toshiba Controls

  • Satellite A300-15A does not start up after Alcohol program installation

    Hi...
I bought Satellite A300-15A yesterday and after completing the Vista installation process, I tried to install "Alcohol" but my notebook shutdown and now I'm not able to start notebook.
It is not starting in any mode.
I forget to make recovery discs. I think Alcohol is not compatible with Vista. Error which i receive is below.
Can anyone tell me the solution?
    Please help urgently
"A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.
If this is the first time you've seen this Stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps: blah blah... "

Sounds like a familiar problem to me, as I had the same one with the Daemon tools. After installing those tools I couldn't start my Windows XP any more. I guess it somehow mixed up some drivers or registry entries, but not sure about that.
Ok, you can try to deinstall the tool by first starting Vista in safe mode (press F8 before Windows boot up).
You should be then able to enter Vista without problem.
