Hi!
Have you checked the Toshiba website if there is a change log available?
Normally there you can check if its a change log available or not.
http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com => Support & Downloads => Download Drivers
If you cant find a change log on the Toshiba website there is no change log available. ;)

  • Why is SSD so slow on Satellite A300 PSAG8E

    Guys hi,
Please help me on the following question. I would like an admin to help me plz, or a very experienced user, if this is possible.
2 weeks ago I bought an Satellite A300 PSAG8E. A couple of months ago before the purchase of this laptop, I had also bought an SSD OCZ 64 GB v2 core series drive. I tried several times to install the SSD on the laptop, but the response during windows installation and after during the use, the response of the drive is very, very slow. It is even slower than it is with its original 250 GB disk. I benchmarked the SSD with SISOFT SANDRA and confirmed my impression.
The SSD was rated 5400 rpm, strangely the same speed as the original 250 GB HD that comes with the machine.
I used different windows CD's (one with SP3, and one older version with SP2, both original windows) but nothing changed. I then installed my SSD on my desktop machine and the installation and use in windows environment, is blazingly fast. I put it back on the laptop and again it is very, very slow.
What is going on? Do you have any suggestions? Is there any bug with using SSD's on my model?
    Is there any firmware upgrade?
I suspect this has something to do with Laptop's transfer rate. Can you help me please?
    What can I do?
    Kind Regards,
    Dionisis Falireas

    Dear Niko_1
thank you for your time, let me answer plz.
    1) The SSD was rated by Sandra benchmarkng. I believe that what Sandra means is that according to its read and write measurements, the SDD is as fast as an 5400 drive. Which is not the case, because when i install it on my desktop is very very fast.
    2) Imagine that while i had the ssd installed, i tried to copy 600mb (megabytes). The time it took was 16 minutes! Something is wrong.
    3) Regarding what you said, about sata drivers. Which raid compatible driver should i install? I have browsed for days the internet, and i didnt see any forum saying that i should install raid drivers for the ssd. Probably you have a point, but shouldn't this be a common problem and everywhere on the internet, if this was teh case for an SSD to work?
    4) Another point you may have is about the sata driver. You say that sp3 does not include sata drivers. Where can i find these sata drivers, to test it? because my original hard drive for toshiba, is SATA and as far as i know, winodws do recognize sata drivers. Can you clarify plz?

  • Satellite A300 (PSAG8E) - Hardware problems after installing win7 ultimate

    Hello and good day,
I've installed win7 ultimate a few days ago and windows managed to recognize most of my hardware accept my build in mic and camera and another component I am not sure about what it is (Windows update automatically downloaded the sound and graphics driver for me).
My questions are - where can find the remaining drivers and where can I get the preinstalled Toshiba tools and software? (The driver site in the Toshiba support page does not include those drivers and software)
    Thank you very much
    Roi Ben Simon

    Hi
I have Satellite A300 (PSAG8E) too and installed Win7 Home premium and everything works perfect.
At first I must say that I don't know where you have searched drivers and Toshiba tools and utilities because all stuff is downloadable on Toshiba support & download page under http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com
It is logic that mic will not work if you didn't installed proper driver. Install drivers alone and not using Microsoft update. What you need are real and tested drivers and not some free drivers from internet.
Go to Toshiba download page and install all stuff following this installations order:
    -Win7
    -chipset driver
    -storage manager
    -display driver
    -sound driver
    -modem driver
    -supervisor utility
    -infrared
    -patches
    -configfree
    -VAP
    -toshiba hardware setup
    -HDMI control
    -WLAN driver
Everything works well but missing some drivers
    Added Vista stuff:
    -Toshiba assist - work properly
    -Card reader - installed properly
-Webcam driver for A500 - tested with Skype - work properly.
    -Synaptics driver

  • Satellite A300-PSAG8E - HDD indicator is blinking even when i do nothing

    these are my problems
    1. My HDD indicator is blinking even when i do nothing ( blinks every half second or so)
    2. When I go somewhere my display turns off and when I move my mouse display turns on but nothing is happening. Everything is standing still (sometimes 20 seconds, sometimes 2 or 3 minutes ) and than he is ready to work.
    Upgraded BIOS to version 2.20
    OS: Windows 7 Ultimate
    Laptop: Toshiba Satellite A300-PSAG8E
    Anyone know the solutions?
    Need help please! Thank you

    > 1. My HDD indicator is blinking even when i do nothing ( blinks every half second or so)
Even if you dont touch the notebook, the HDD is running and different applications access the data. The applications and processes which are running in the background would cause this blinking. Note; this is not a problem!
    > 2. When I go somewhere my display turns off and when I move my mouse display turns on but nothing is happening. Everything is standing still (sometimes 20 seconds, sometimes 2 or 3 minutes ) and than he is ready to work.
Disable the stand by modem and disable the settings which disable the screen while notebook is not in use. This can be done in Windows 7 power management.

  • Satellite A300 - What is new in Bios version 2.20

    Hi!
Does anybody know what's now in bios version 2.20?
I just found it on the support site, but I can't find any details about it? I's funny, that there's no information about these upgrades....

    Hi
I didnt find any details on the Toshiba European driver page
    But I visited the Toshiba US driver page and there you could find the details of BIOS versions for A300 for example;
According to the Toshiba US page this is the change history of BIOS version 2.20 - 2010/01/19
    Blocked the eSATA boot function.
    Changed the HDD password algorithm.

    Hi guys
I can tell you that this a old story and I read about such stuttering long time ago
Many people have reported that this issue could be solved by BIOS and nVidia driver update!
This is also mentioned here in this Toshiba FAQ:
[New video driver and BIOS eliminates video 'stutter' during game play (Windows Vista) |http://askiris.toshiba.com/ToshibaSupportSite/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=1924 764xml&sliceId=&dialogID=69796173&stateId=1 0 69794207]
So there is a solution, definitely!

  • Toshiba Satellite A300-129 Crisis Recovery Mode Phoenix BIOS with USB drive

When flashing my BIOS back from v4.20 to a v3.90 I found on the net, everything went alright in windows, but as soon as I rebooted, the laptop showed the symptoms of a failed BIOS.
I'm now trying to repair the BIOS using the crisis recovery tool. I used the following procedure to create the USB stick and recover the BIOS
-Run the WINCRIS.Exe file in administrator and compatibility mode (Windows XP SP2)
-Select the USB drive (1GB Kingston), and format it with the tool
-Reinsert the drive and format again with the tool without restarting it to be sure that the disk is properly formatted
-Take the BL5S3D57.WPH file from the toshiba BIOS update and rename it to BIOS.WPH, and copy to the Crisdisk directory
-Copy the files BIOS.WPH (the one from toshiba I renamed), minidos.sys and winphlash16.exe to the drive in windows
    -Take the drive out
-Plug battery out, plug AC out of laptop, hold the power button for a few seconds to make sure no remaining current is in the laptop
    -Plug the USB Drive in
-Hold Fn+Esc in my case, this is the key combination where the laptop tries to read the USB drive the moment it boots up. It has something to do with enabling a boot block in the BIOS with that key combination.
-Plug AC in while still holding the F button
The F button does not nescessarily need to be held while plugging in AC, the laptop also tries to read from the drive if I hold it after plugging AC in, and before pushing the power button.
    -Press the power button
I need to push the button twice, because the first time after plugging in AC the power button doesn't do a thing. When holding the power button for around 10 seconds after right after plugging AC in, the laptop boots sometimes, didn't find a pattern yet here.
The easy thing however is to just push the button 2 or 3 times, then it boots, and the booting procedure seems exactly the same as when holding the power button
-Wait for the LED to flash on the USB Drive. Very important: it seems to only flash ONCE for me, so it means it tries to access the drive, but I think it doesn't contain the right files or isn't formatted correctly. If I keep holding the F button while the laptop is on, the LED flashes once every 10-20 seconds.
From here on out the laptop is supposed to be reading the BIOS files from the USB drive, but apparently I'm doing something wrong. So here comes my question:
What could I be doing wrong in formatting the drive or writing the files to it?
Do I have the wrong CRISDISK? Is it normal that the files arent copied by CRISDISK to the USB Drive and that I have to do it myself?
Am I using the wrong WinPhlash? Or should I use the files that are supplied in the official BIOS rar from toshiba?
I have tried different versions of CRISDISK, different USB Drives (one 4GB would not be read by the broken laptop, and another 1GB would not be read by CRISDISK when trying to format the drive)
Tried different files on the USB Drive, tried bios.wph instead of capitals, tried BIOS.FD,...
I'm kind of running out of options here to try. Is there anyone who has experience with this recovery mode flashing that could tell me what I might be doing wrong? Or that has any suggestions on which other CRISDISK or toshiba updates to use?
Thanks anyways to people who read this and try to help!

I hope that Russian service provider will be as honest as the European one and won't solder something out as a souvenir :)
They said, it will take approximately a week.
Serviceman said that L30 has no built-in crisis recovery routine.
So I wasted money by buying an USB floppy disk drive and risked to burn something in my laptop by frequent powering it on and off (and may be burnt, will see).
The lesson I learnt is never flash BIOS if everything works and if even flash then not from Windows (btw. I flashed successfully my Satellite A300 from Windows without any problems).
Phoenix makes its BIOSes since 2001 with a crisis recovery boot block, but Toshiba locks this feature in many laptops, I think, not without a reason. Service providers want money too :)

    Hello
Im wondering that you want to upgrade to 8GB RAM... Normally 3 or 4GB should be more as enough for all applicaions at the moment.
Anyway, as Jayjay said its not possible to upgrade to 8GB. A friend of me has a Satellite A300 and the user manual says that it can upgrade to 4GB or 2GB (depending on the chipset). So if you have a PM965/GM965/RS690M chipset you can upgrade it to 4GB. Otherwise you can only use up to 2GB.
I have upgraded my Toshiba notebook with Kingston RAM. This is high quality RAM and has a good compatibility. I never had problems with such modules.
    Check this!!
    Bye

  • Satellite A300 PSAG8E does not charge

I have a Toshiba Satalite A300 PSAG8E which does not charge.
I was handed it a few days ago by someone claiming that it doesn't work or turn on -- vague details.
Upon receipt it turned on, asked whether to start windows normally or not, then booted absolutely fine, it powered from the mains charger, no problem.
I left it on for a while doing various tasks.
I came to it a few days later to find it had turned itself off.
I powered up again, at which point it asked whether to start windows normally or not. I started normally and it came on fine.
Since then I have been unable to power it from the mains.
    Why won't it charge now?

Thanks for your responses so far. Much appreciated. Not to be rude guys, but I thought I was clear enough. However, I can understand the confusion as the situation is unusual.
    The problem is simple:
When the laptop is plugged into the mains, the battery does not charge. The laptop does not power on. The situation is this: It only does this sometimes.
    What I have tried:
Wiggling the cable, in all sorts of ways to see if there's a possible connection issue. This does not appear to be the issue. It seems to be simply on or off.
I tried resetting BIOS to default before the battery went dead last time. Still no power.
    http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/FAQ6201DK0004R01.htm
    # Make sure the battery has a full charge.
    - No, it has run flat since it charged last. Unable to recharge.
    # Try plugging the AC adapter into the computer.
    - Tried. Nothing.
    # Try plugging the AC adapter into a different outlet.
    - Tried. Nothing.
    # Try pressing the power switch for ten seconds.
    - Tried. Nothing.
    # Make sure the power switch is not physically locked off, like a cover protecting it.
    - Checked.
    # Try removing the battery and the AC adapter, then plug only the AC adapter in and try powering on.
    - Tried. Nothing.
    # Make sure you have the proper AC adapter, and only use the one that shipped with the computer.
    - Yes.
    # Is the computer turning on, but the display is blank or being routed to a monitor that you can't see? If so, try using the FN+F5 keys.
    - No. It is not and does not turn on.
    # If the computer is on, but no display or won't power off, you can press and hold the power button for ten seconds (until it powers off), then try powering on again.
    - No. It is not and does not turn on.
    # Make sure you remove all extra hard ware, especially extra memory even if it shipped that way from the dealer. The memory could be loose, or could have gone bad.
    - Checked. Nothing.
    # Look at the lights on the computer for clues. Are you getting AC power? Is a light blinking? If there is a blinking light it can be an indication that Power supply Micro controller detects an error. In this case please contact ASP (Authorized service partner) in your country.
    - No lights. When battery is in, battery light blinks when you press the power button because the battery is dead.
What I will try next: Detach the battery and power cord overnight.
If I manage to get it to power up, update BIOS.
    Any further advice?

  • Satellite A300-21H - What the hidden partition means?

    Hi,
I have a Satellite A300-21H and using MS vista but will be getting dual boot ubuntu soon.
When i look up my disk size i see C drive is 148GB and then there is an E drive also at 147GB.
The E drive is ntfs ( contains a folder called HDD recovery and text file ) - i assumed this was the recovery disk but it seems rather huge!.
Then i looked into the manula to see the recover should only be 1.5GB and there is a hidden 1.5GB drive on the disk also.
My question is what is the E drive, can i merge it with the C drive? and can i wipe it and still use the 1.5 GB to recover things? and The two back up DVD's i made what are they for?
    Thanks in advance:
    Patrick

    Hi buddy
    The notebook contains 3 partitions;
One partition contains the Vista OS
The second partition contains the HDD recovery folder. This HDD recovery folder is needed for HDD recovery procedure. You can recover the notebook without using the disk. You can boot from the HDD and can start the HDD recovery process.
But its strongly recommended to create a recovery disk! This could be helpful if something will go wrong with the preinstalled OS and the HDD recovery.
Last partition (the hidden one) contains the Vista backup files called WinRE.
This backup files are needed in order to repair the OS in critical situations
Its no recommended to remove, delete or merge this partition!

  • Satellite P10-802: What was new in sound driver update

There are new sound drivers for Satellite P10-802 which claim to add sound features such as 3d enhancement and software synthesizer and i would like to know what these actually do and if it's effective enough to bother updating.
For example the sound system is made by toshiba bass enhancement but when i put in my very costly bass earphones,
My cd player [produces atleast 5x more bass and clarity.
So i would like to know what the driver has to offer as to what the standard driver can do.
The driver description is as follows:-
A broad range of audio controls are possible by using this sound driver, including: Software Synthesizer, Microphone volume, 3D enhancement and Power management
    thanks

Sounds much information to me already.
Updating is mostly a good thing and they remain the same standard sound driver, just with some new features.
Ok, I'll take a lokk at it.
3d enhancement: Seems like when using a complete surround sound speaker set was improved, maybe it added more settings like distance between front and rear or delay from rear speakers as you would have like using an expensive stereo receiver.
Software synthesizer is a little tweaking of how music for example sounds. IF you wish more bass or treble than you could adjust ist with this program.
I don't know if you need those features, so you have to decide on your own.

  • Satellite A300: "Wake on Wireless LAN" option disabled in BIOS

    Hello,
I have a Satellite A300-230 notebook, and in the BIOS, the option (under Advanced) to enable/disable the *Wake on Wireless LAN* is disabled and greyed out without any way to change it.
Why is that so? How can I enable it?
    BIOS version is 2.20 (latest).
    Thanks to all.

Hi, i've just installed the Toshiba Hardware Utility and there is no option there for wireless lan wakeup. It has Wake-on-Lan for my wired card (which is enabled), but no wireless Wake-on-Lan.
btw, my BIOS is InsydeH2O. I understand that there are several manufacturers of BIOS's for this notebook, no? what is yours?
also: my wireless card is Atheros
