Can I use European BIOS 2.1 update for Satellite A300 PSAGCA?
Hi,
my toshiba is Satellite A300 PSAGCA-02Y010, bought in Sep-2008.
I'd like to update BIOS to latest 2.10 version for windows 7 ,but in Toshiba-NZ website ,I can only find 1.9 version, I do find 2.10 in Toshiba-Europe for A300, but Europe models are all different from NZ.
My question is: Could I use this europe 2.10 BIOS in my nz toshiba A300? thanks.Hi
I would not recommend using an BIOS which is not released for your notebook model.
There are many different notebook series on the market.
You should use the BIOS which is exactly designed for the notebook model!
As you know, BIOS update is an sensible process and you can damage the ROM chip using wrong BIOS! -
Satellite A300 PSAGCE: Is it possible to boot from external CD/DVD drive?
Hi,
Somebody could tell me if it is possible to boot the toshiba satellite a300 psagce from an external usb cd drive?
Best Regards,
Miguel AlvesHi
The BIOS supports following bootable devices:
- USB FDD,
- Primary HDD,
- Optical devices,
- Network(LAN)
So *USB ODD* is not supported by this BIOS -

1- Copy the *iaStor.sys* File into the \Windows\System32\Drivers\
2- Run *ich9m.reg*
3- Reboot end enter *BIOS* and switch to *AHCI*-mode
4- Use the downloaded driver to install manually the driver when windows detected it.

Satellite A300 1lW - Windows 7 installation - any issues?
Good Morning/afternoon!
I would like to install a new intern hard drive on my laptop and I want to put also windows 7 on it.
The issue is that it is the first time I will do this manipulation and I dont really know what sort of functionality will be incompatible with this installation.
- Can you recommand me a windows 7 version which can be suitable for this laptop?
- Which functionality will be deactivated when I will install windows 7 on my new hard drive?
Thanks a lot!
Regards
RemyI use Win7 32bit on my Satellite A300. It works perfectly and all Toshiba specific functions are there.
Here is the list how I have installed all stuff on my Satellite A300 (PSAG8E):
-Win7
-chipset driver
-storage manager
-display driver
-sound driver
-modem driver
-supervisor utility
-infrared
-patches
-configfree
-VAP
-toshiba hardware setup
-HDMI control
-WLAN driver
Everything works well but some drivers are missing
Added Vista stuff:
-Toshiba assist - work properly
-Card reader - installed properly
-Webcam driver for A500 - tested with Skype - work properly.
-Synaptics driver
Win7 works much better and faster as original Vista. -
Hello. This is my very first post and maybe I can find a resolution to the problem. Thank you for taking the time to read this and thank you if you can assist me in resolving the problem.
I recently upgraded from Windows Vista Home Premium to Windows 7 Home Premium using the Windows 7 Upgrade Media that was sent to me for my Toshiba Satellite A500. The upgrade loaded successfully. My laptop already had the Windows Live (MSN) Messenger on it when I was using Windows Vista and the webcam worked okay then. Now with Windows 7, when I try to do a voice/video chat using the Windows Live (MSN) Messenger version 2009 (Build 14.0.8089.726), my built-in laptop webcam does not work. When I initiate a voice/video chat, all I get is a big red X next to the webcam icon in the little view area window when it attempts to run. I can receive voice/video from people using MSN Messenger but my laptop can't send out any video. My laptop sends out voice but no video. I un-installed the Messenger, rebooted and re-installed it but it still won't do video output.
Interestingly, when I tried doing a voice/video chat with Gmail, my webcam worked. I haven't tried Yahoo yet. My webcam worked fine before upgrading to Windows 7. I suppose I could just forget about MSN Messenger and use Gmail but not all my contacts use Gmail. I'd like to be able to continue using MSN Messenger if possible.
So I'm posting here to see if there is any resolution or suggestions I can have to get my webcam working with Windows Live (MSN) Messenger. Not the end of the world if I can't make it work again.
Have a nice day. Regards,

You have to configure the single buttons.
This Toshiba button support pop up will appear if the pressed button was not configured.
So press the button and then assign the action, application.
You have to expand this menu pressing on the small arrow on the right.

Satellite A300 - inbuilt Chicony webcam won't work with Win Live Messenger
Hello
I just bought a *Satellite A300-1MC* (runs on Vista Home Premium), and downloaded Windows Live Mail And Live Messenger.
The inbuilt webcam won't work with Live Messenger ; and when selecting Tool, Audi + Vieo Setup in Messenger I get thye following message : "We are unable to run Audi Video setup".
The webcam works fine with the Camera Assisant Software.
I have tried : 1) killing the C.A. Software and starting Messenger ; 2) dowanloading a webcam driver from Toshiba website ; 3) Updating Windows Vista
None of the above work.
Any suggestion gladly received.....
ThomasHi,
Many thanks for the advice.
I have downloaded and installed ManyCam 2.3, then rebooted.
The ManyCam software works fine, and picks up signal from the inbuild webcam.
But Windows Live Messenger still doesn't pick up the camera. I can not start a Video call or go to" Video Audio setup".
I have Windows Live Messenger version 14.0.8064 (installed on Tuesday).
Funny enough, yahoo messenger works fine : it gets a signal from the webcam.
Conclusion : i think it is Windows Live Messenger that doesn't work properly for some reason.
I have ordered a new external webcam, in the meantime.

Re: Satellite A300 PSAGCA -02Y010 - Error: Webcam driver open failed
Problem:
Recieve error every time I try to use Camera Assistance Software for Toshiba: Webcam driver open failed. Please restart camera or computer. Web cam also does not work in Skype. It seems that this is a very common problem with the A300s series, yet there is no clear solution out there.
Hardware
Series: A300
Model: PSAGCA -02Y010
Software
Operating System: Windows 7 64-bit
Camera Assistant Software for Toshiba: 1.7.175.0123
Details
I recently did a clean install of Windows 7, updating from Windows Vista. I never used the web cam on Windows Vista, so I can't testify as to whether the web camera was workin correctly or not. However, when I tried to use it with Skype, it did not work. I reinstalled the driver that I backed up before I installed the new operating system, but it did not work. The web cam doesn't show up at all in Device Manager - even when set to display hidden devices. Trying to add new hardware through the control panel fails to detect the web camera at all. I have restarted after every install/repair of the driver.
Steps Taken
Reinstalled backuped drivers
I used third party software (Double Driver) to back up and reinstall the drivers for the web camera after I installed Windows 7. Double Driver claimed there was no device to install the driver for. I manually copied the files into the Camera Assistance folder and overwrote the existing ones. The files I copied were:
casflr.cat
oem34.inf
restore.ini
UVCFTR_S.SYS
Reinstalled Drivers from Toshiba Website
Extensive goolging has only turned up recommendations to uninstall and reinstall drivers. I was unable to find any drivers specifically for windows 7 64-bit, but I did try those for my model of laptop for Windows Vista 64-bit - no luck. I tried installing Camera Assistance Software for Toshiba, which as far as I can tell, includes the driver - it only gives me the error described above.
I also tried locating a generic Windows 7 driver for the web camera - I was unable to find one.
Check Registry Value Is Correct
I have also tried checked the registry value at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/System/ControlSet001/Enum/USB/SN001/ClassUID matches the value in C:\Program Files (x86)\Camera Assistant Software for Toshiba\driver\64bit\casflr.inf as and C:\Program Files (x86)\Camera Assistant Software for Toshiba\driver\32bit\casflr.inf recommended by some article recommend.
Please, I would really appreciate it if anyone could help me out here. I have exhausted all the options I can think of.
Likely Solution:
I encountered a thread post that suggested a loose wire was responsible and that the camera would work when the lid was almost closed. I tried this and the camera suddenly appeared in device manager. However, I still can't get it to work with Camera Assistant Software or Skype.
Message was edited by: A300OwnerHi - I'm a newbie to this forum.
I have an A300 Satellite Pro - not even 2 years old.
In the last 2 days I have 2 problems that I think are possibly related.
1. Like others on here I now cannot get my internal webcam to work. I get the 'webcam driver open failed' message. I have read some forums etc and today I have:
a) loaded most recent BIOS,
b) reloaded the webcam software drivers (the most recent seems to be from 2008!)
c) restarted my laptop about 20 times
Nothing works
2. In the last 2 days for the first time I keep getting the 'USB device not recognised' message that annoyingly crops up about every 10 seconds. I am assuming that the webcam is connected to a USB port (internal) and is no longer being recognised. Based on Google advice in various forums I have also:
1) Turned off the AC power supply
2.) Taken out the laptop battery and waited 5 mins - this apparently resets the BIOS
3) tried using device manager in various ways
Nothing bloody works!!
Maybe the hardware is damaged but I doubt it - I have not dropped the laptop, I always pack it carefully in a padded rucksack. It has always worked fine until 2 days ago.

Satellite A300 (PSAGCA-02Y010) - Is extremly slow
Bought A300 with Vista which was so slow.
I even turned off loads of features trying to make it a bit quicker but still slow, so I loaded XP and yet its still to slow takes ages (5mins) at least to start. Right click takes ages copying all of it is so slow, it hangs doing the most easy things.
My old laptop I bought in 1999 is quicker than my new 4GB RAM dual processor 2k laptop what gives and what could be the problem.
I have up to date software drivers ect also the CD/DVD is broken has anyone else had these problems and would you know how to sort it out?
Help pleaseHi!
Its not easy to say what the reason is why your notebook is so slow but do you have the same issue with factory settings?
I mean the preinstalled Windows Vista version with all drivers and tools from Toshiba. So take the Toshiba recovery disk and try it. Then you can post your result.
Two years ago I had a similar issue. My new notebook was extremely slow and the reason for this problem was the HDD. It had defective sectors and so it did make the computer extremely slow. After exchanging the HDD all was working well.
You can check the HDD with Drive Fitness Test. Use Google to find this test and its freeware. -
Satellite A300-29N - Windows 2003 server installation shows an error
Hi,
Tried installing Windows 2003 server in new Toshiba A300-29N getting error.
Check for Viruses on your computer. Remove any newly installed hard drives or hard drive controllers. Check your hard drive to make sure it is properly configured and terminated. Run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive corruption, and then restart your computer.

Any one faced this issue and any update.

SamirHello
Im wondering that you want to install Windows server on a notebook...
Anyway, this is a known issue and does also happen on XP and Vista. To solve this you have to use the SATA driver for the notebook or you change the SATA mode in BIOS from AHCI to compatible, then you dont need a driver.
Here are some instructions that could be useful for you:
http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/HTD9401AN0000R01.htm
Im not sure if you will get a driver for Server 2003 but you can try the XP driver and in worst case you have to use the compatible mode.
Let me give you a word of advice: If you have more questions, use the forum search. You will hundreds of threads about this. -
Satellite A300 - After Windows 7 installation how to get factory sate back?
I have recently installed windows 7 on my laptop and now I want to remove them and restore my computer to its factory state.
When I enter the "advanced boot menu" I select "repair my computer", then there is a menu from which I select "repair...something". Then it shows up a message which says that there is nothing wrong with my computer and that's where all end.
Any ideas???
Thank youHi
Did you not create the Toshiba recovery disk as yet?
I think you didnt read the user manual because there you can also find a lot of informations about this.
The Toshiba recovery disk you can burn using the Toshiba recovery disk creator. This tool is preinstalled on every Toshiba notebook but on another OS like Windows 7 its not possible.
Normally after the first start when you bought the notebook you get the following message (recovery reminder):
+Important INFORMATION+
+your system is equipped with hard disk recovery system. if you need to repair+
+your computer by restoring it to original factory state, you can do it directly+
+from harddisk (press F8 when you boot your computer, choose "Repair your computer"+
+and follow the menue instructions) or create a bootable Recovery Disc Medium for this purpose.+
+Toshiba recommends you to create Recovery Disc Medium using the "Toshiba Recovery Disc Creator" to ensure+
+hat you are able to restore your computer to the original factory installed state, even if your computer+
+gets seriously damaged+
However, now its too late and you have to order a new recovery disk from Toshiba directly:
