Satellite A300 thinks button is held down and won't start up (long)

Hey sorry this is so long but I would really love some help,
Ok so I was just wondering if there is a way to fix this...
I was on my Satellite A300 (just over a year old) last night playing the Left 4 Dead 2 Demo using the Stream network and all of a sudden in Online Co-op the Camera Assistant Window opened minamising Left 4 Dead 2.
I thought this strange because I had closed the side popup bar for Camera Assistant on startup so that it wouldn't popup and do exactly what it did....
So after being confused I just clicked back onto Left 4 Dead 2 and thought "I'll deal with that in a sec"... When Left 4 Dead 2 did maximise again, (it took a few moments where there was a black screen and about 1 second of audio looping), I couldn't physically play but I could watch the game in a special mode that lets you take a break and let AI take over for a while. Also the in game chat box was up.
I was at first just trying to click the button to turn off AI control but the game wouldn't respond. Then my chat box's typing section started filling up with 'u's so I tried to get rid of them. All I could do was high-light them with my mouse and then more 'u's would replace them.
After trying Alt+F4 for a while and Ctrl+Alt+Del with no responce except for the 'u's I decided the poor computer must be strained with Left 4 Dead open and Stream, Illistratror and the Camera open in the background so I pressed the power button (set to shut down on my computer) and waited...
Left 4 Dead 2 closed, as did Camera Assistant I think... and then it kind of froze so I just held down the power button (sorry I know that probably wasn't the best move) and my laptop turned off...
Well when I tried to turn it back on the Black "Toshiba Leading Innovation" screen pops up along with the little footer explaining what F2 and F12 do. After that the screen switches to the little blinking text bar thing (sorry I don't know what it's actually called...) but the bar flashes on and remains there for about 4-5 seconds and then flashes off and on again, although it seems slightly duller in colour) and then a single tone plays (from the computer even if earphones are plugged in) and yeah... I have to turn it back off...
Remembering about the 'u's I assumed the computer was not happy that the 'u' button was being held down on startup so remembering that the fron of the keys are actually removable I (very carefully) removed the 'u' faceplate. It all looked 'normal' underneath... (I compared it to the 'y' button) and so pressed it a few times and re-placed the faceplate. Turned on the compter... Same thing happened...
I then tried taking out the battery and then putting it back in to see if that would help... Again, the tone played... I took unpluged my iPod, Took out the CD, and removed the Memory Card to see if that would help... It didn't unfortunately.
So next I tried turning on the computer whist pressing 3 keys (I thought it might cancel out the 'u' key) abd held down 'b+n+m'. The first time I did this Windows Boot Manager opened instead of the beeping. I only have Windows Vista so when I tried to continue by pressing 'enter' nothing happened... So I turned off the computer and tried again (this time with q+w+e as I thought maybe holding b+m starts Boot Manager). This time Windows Error Recovery displayed with the options; Safe Mode, Safe Mode with Networking, Safe Mode with Command Prompt and Start Windows Normally. Again Enter wouldn't work... And thats my sistuation so far...
Please help if you can >: I'm scared if I take it to a Japanese Compute Person they'll wipe everything...
Thankyou,
Rochelle
(again I am sorry this is so long but I thought people might wan't specifics...)

hi Ellehcore,
sure it is always the hardware.... nope!
deinstall the webcam software and/or shutdown the webcam service
this will prevent the software to show up in your game...
but with this extended problems you should ask a servicepartner for assistance....
or simply recover the system...

my IMAC seems to have died after power surge. It shut down and won't start.  What shall I do?

I would recommend you try an SMC reset at this point:
Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
Resetting the SMC for Mac Pro, Intel-based iMac, Intel-based Mac mini, or Intel-based Xserve
    Shut down the computer.
    Unplug the computer's power cord.
    Wait fifteen seconds.
    Attach the computer's power cord.
Wait five seconds, then press the power button to turn on the computer.
If that fails to solve it, it is probable that the power surge damaged some of your iMac's hardware components, and will need to be repaired at an Apple Authorized Service Center.

  • When unplugged my MBP randomly shuts down and won't start up again

When my MBP is unplugged it randomly shuts off and won't restart. To get it to boot up again I have to plug it in.
Today I was using my computer for about 15 minutes unplugged and it just shut down by itself. I was right in the middle of typing something and it just cut out. The other weird thing is I don't get a low battery warning, nothing, it just shuts down.
Then I press the power button to restart and I get nothing. Even when I pull the battery out and put it back in nothing. I pressed the battery level button and it blinked rapidly on the lowest 2 lights. Keep in mind I was using my computer unplugged for only 15 minutes immediately after unplugging it from the wall after it had been charing for 15+ hours.
This makes no sense. Please help me.

Sounds like a bad battery and/or problem with the PMU (power management unit) and/or memory.
"Half the start up sound" is a bad sign as it means it's failing the normal start up tests (I'd guess a Memory problem)
Reset the PMU and run the Hardware tests from Install DVD1 (hold down d at startup) and see what it reports.

  • MBP shuts down and won't start up

I had my MBP for 2 months and it just started to act weird. For no reason, it randomly shuts down with no warning (just like if you would disconnect the battery) and won't even start up again (I had half of the start up sound then nothing). After a couple of more tries, it should startup again but soon things will go bad... Any idea what is going on ?

  • Laptop shut down and won't start up after using a Gecko iPhone cable?

I plugged in a gecko iphone cable to a usb port on my MacBook Pro and now it won't start up?

    Hello esterke,
As I understand it you are not able to turn your phone on, and the power button doesn't work so you cannot turn it on that way. You may be able to get it back on by putting it into Recovery Mode, which only requires the USB connection and a working Home button.

  • My MacBook Air Just Shut down and won't start!

Hi Friends, my apple mac book air just shut down while I was working on it. The charger was plugged in. It is a 2009 model. I did the SMC Reset and PRAM Reset. When I press the power button it gives out a beep sound. It did start for a few minutes after the SMC Reset  and it also booted for a few seconds after PRAM Reset. but it again down down. I bought this laptop from a neighbour last year who has left the country where I am, thus, he is not in touch anymore. Please Help me in fixing it. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Try to reset the phone by holding the sleep and home button for about 10sec, until the Apple logo comes back again.
If this does not work, see if you can connect in recovery mode, explained in this aricle:
If you can't update or restore your iOS device
If it still does not work, this is a hardware issue and the phone has to be serviced by Apple or an Authorized Apple Service Provider:

  • Macbook Pro retina shut down and won't start

    Someone help!
I was using my Macbook Pro Retina that I got in 2012 while I was on a trip in Tokyo, Japan. While uploading pictures from my camera, I left to take a shower and came back to see that my computer was shut off. I thought it went into sleep mode so I kept pressing the keyboard but there was nothing. I did have it plugged into the wall without an adapter. I tried the startup button and nothing. I came back to the States and went to the apple store. They said they don't guaranteed that my data could be recovered. I didn't want to take a chance because I'm too nervous I will lose all my files especially recent ones I haven't backed up yet. They suggested I take it to an authorized apple store to see if they could do a data recovery but before I go, does anyone have any suggestion on what I should do before I spend my money? I don't know if it's because I didn't use an adapter in Japan (100v) but I know it's universal. My iphone was charged every night and had no problem.
    Thanks!!

    btipparat,
the Apple store which you took your MacBook Pro to isn’t an authorized Apple store? Your MacBook Pro’s AC adapter supports worldwide voltages, 100 V to 240 V, so that isn’t an issue.
If you press the button next to the battery indicator lights, do they light up? Do they do so whether or not the AC charger is connected?

  • My MacBook shut down and won't start up anymore

My MacBook unexpectedly shut down after I plugged my iPhone in laptop to charge. It happened when it had around 80percent battery but my charger for laptop was still in charging my laptop. I have not spilled any water on the laptop as I keep if in save dry places at all times. I feel pretty let down as I've just came out of they year warranty as I purchased this Christmas 2012. I am hoping someone in here can helps out and show any expert advice from reliable sources

  • MacBook shut itself down and won't start up again

I am painstakingly typing this on my iphone as my 2010 13"MacBook Pro won't give any sign of life appart from the battery indicator, which indicates that the battery is full. I brought it to the apple service centre here in Germany, who say that there is a power problem, the cause of which they can't identify, and that they would need to replace the logic board at a cost of well over 600 euro (guarantee only just ran out a few months ago). I am dithering whether to have it repaired as I only get a 90 day guarantee on the repair and apple allegedly don't know what caused the problem in the first place, or whether it could happen again. Has anybody else had this problem? Any advice?

I'm not sure what additional information I can give. The MacBook had always worked fine until now. It has on occasion heated it up a bit, but that seems to be common from what im reading.. I've never had any of the display problems that others in this community have had.
Unfortunately, prices tend to be a good bit higher here in Europe. I'm being charged over 400 euro for the logic board alone (more than USD 500). The third-party service providers I've seen so far seem to charge similar fees. Plus I've already paid for the diagnostic 65 euro, which gets offset against the final bill if I go ahead with the repair, so I wouldn't be saving much with a DIY job.
It's all very frustrating as it is; one of the main reasons I chose the macbook is that I thought I was getting something that was going to last. My big fear now is that I might end up throwing more money down the drain by having it fixed.

  • When I remove the battery charger my computer shuts down completely and won't start until I plug the charger back in

When I remove the battery charger the computer completely shuts down and won't start up without the battery charger. I have to restart all my windows when I turn it back on. Before it would just go to sleep and if it was charged it would come back on without batter. Any suggestions on what this can be?

  • Table not updating while command button is held down

    Hi guys,
My application obtains data and then outputs this into a table which updates after each set of data is read. This part works fine, however I also require the user to be able to hold down one of two buttons to control control the function of an actuator (forwards and rearwards). To explain this further, when one of these buttons are pressed a voltage is output, when released the voltage is reset to zero. However, while the button is held down the table does not continue to update, when the button is released the table then updates through all the queued values. I understand that this is most likely a problem with the holding of the button causing the other user interface events to not be processed. I have therefore tried using ProcessSystemEvents(), ProcessDrawEvents(), and experimented with using an async timer to control the updating of the UI through the use of PostDeferredCallback(), all without success.
If anyone can help with a solution that would allow me to perform both of these required functions simultaneously it would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks in advance
    Ben
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Could you use a toggle button instead of a simple button to be hold down? If yes, then in the button callback you could simple test the value of the toggle (1 if pressed, 0 if released) and operate turn on/off the output voltage to the actuator. You'll have a commit event every time the operator changes button state. (you may need to apply some security limit switch or timeput on the control in case the user forgets to turn the toggle off: the situation is similar to a three-state switch that controls a motorized window blind).
Proud to use LW/CVI from 3.1 on.

  • During BIOS update Satellite Pro A60 went down and hasn't started

    Hello everyone,
I have a Satellite Pro A60 and I updated the bios. Halfway the update, my laptop went down and hasn´t started since. All it does is give a couple of beeps (trying to tell me the bios is corrupted, I suppose) and shuts itself off again.
Tried to start with the (~) key pressed down (a tip I got from a friend), but no succes.
I currently live in a country where there is no Toshiba dealer available and I rather not ship the laptop to have it repaired.
Does anyone know of a way to fix this? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

    This sounds not good.
If during the POST the BIOS detects a problem it will normally display a visual error message on the monitor explaining what the problem is. However, if a problem is detected before the BIOS initializes the video card or a video card is not present or not detected then the BIOS will play several BEEPS through the speaker to let you know there is a problem.
Depending on the type of the BIOS you have the BIOS may play beeps in a specific pattern to indicate what the problem is, or play the same beep a number of times indicating the problem.
In your case its possible that you have used a wrong BIOS or a wrong BIOS procedure. Both can damage the motherboard.
To prevent such damages and any mistakes Toshiba has published the FAQ document.
How to update the BIOS on most units!
This you should read before doing any BIOS updates!
Unfortunately I dont think that you can solve it yourself. I think you should ask the ASP for help.

Could be the battery is completely drained. Use the charger that came with the iPad and plug that into a known good wall outlet. Let it charge for at least an hour. Then, while it is still plugged in reset your device. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart.
If the device restarts let it remain on the charger until the battery indicates 100%. If it still will not turn on Make an appointment at an Apple Store to have your device examined by a technician. Or contact Apple Support.
