Satellite A300 - Windows Vista restarts on shutdown

I have just done HDD recovery on Satellite A300, Vista and it gives me problems when i try to shut it down, it just restarts. It doesn't matter if it is on battery or plugged in.I did update on BIOS, did te setup in Power options but still the same problem. I do have non working WiFi and network card, if somebody thinks that might be the problem. Any and all inputs are welcome.
Thanks

I have done the Recovery and without installing the new software it started with the problem of restart instead of shutdown. I'm having this laptop for over two years and am thrilled with it. this is the first real problem that i am having.
I did not connect it to the internet, didn't do any updates for my network card and WIFI is off .
What kind of testing should i do?
Right After the installation i shut it down, the only time it worked and the next time i tried it just restarted. And between those two points passed few minutes,no extra software installed.

  • Re: Satellite A300 - Windows Vista hang on - what can I do?

I have a laptop Toshiba Satellite A300 with OS Windows Vista Home Edition.
After some weeks of working with my laptop, it hang on.
I have reinstalled the OS but and it work well during 1 or two months then the laptop hang on again.
I bought this laptop October 2008 and I have reinstalled Vista 3 o 4 times.
    What can I do?

You mean the Vista does not response after couple of time?
Well buddy, this can be an software issue.
I mean there are no magic solutions for such issues I assume you have installed and used many different applications on this notebook.
It could be possible that one of the applications causes this issue
It could be also possible that the registry entries and some system files have been changed during the Microsoft updates
In my opinion you should use some cleaning tools like for example the CCLeaner.
Its free tool and it cleans your registry and other files
You should also check the applications which are running while the system would start to hang up
Last but not least I recommend checking the memory you could run an memory test (www.memtest.org, www.memtest86.com) in order to find out some memory issues.
    Good luck

  • Satellite A300 - Windows 7 causing overheating

    Hey all,
i have a toshi A300/y01 (psagca - 02y010) and have recently upgraded to windows 7 64bit , since upgrading i've been unable to find a toshiba power saver utility that is compatible with win 7, and my pc has been getting alot hotter then it did a few days ago under vista, i've been into power options and configured power plan to maximum performance under heating, tho is no change. also when i turn the pc on the fan does not seem to do its test spin as fast as it did.
There is still hot air coming from the vent on the left, and hasn't shutdown due to exessive heat, tho have not heard the fan kick in like it used to and laptop base and hand rests are getting alot hotter then they ever have before.
Have been to a few diff forums that suggest varying things like fan.exe tho from other comments i've read it doesn't seem to recognise toshiba fans, am planning on pulling the base off in the next few days and checking dust build up, tho this may explain raised heat doesn't explain why fan is working differently under new OS and why heat has jumped up so much coinciding with the change.
If anyone has any suggestions pls help!

I have European Satellite A300-1LI and last week I installed Win7 as clean installation, no update.
I must say that notebook runs well and I didn't notice much difference to Vista. Notebook runs pretty quiet. I must also say that my notebook is Win7 supported and I have installed Win7 VAp that includes Toshiba power saver.
Have you checked Toshiba download page for your country? Is your notebook model fully supported for Win7?
Try to use balanced power plan. Performance will be reduced but also CPU and graphic activity and I presume notebook will not produce so much heat as under high performance power plan where the hardware is is request to run on maximum level.
If the Toshiba power saver is installed on your notebook you can find it on same place as under Vista. There you can change settings for cooling method.

  • Satellite A300 - windows freezes

    Dear forum users,
I am having 1 Satellite A300 laptop with vista on.
recently o observed, if i right click on any icon on the desktop, the system freeze to respond and the circle of vista keep on spinning.
if i pressed again and again, the dialogue box "programme stopped working, close/restart/wait option" is appearing.
after restart, all windows sidebar's gadget, yahoo messenger icons are appearing in the taskbar down ( which normally does not appear in task bar)and they are again not responding to close/ minimize/maximize anything from the taskbar.
    can anybody diagnosis the disease?

this also i have done , but in vain.
additionally, from yesterday, i am not getting wirless network detected by my laptop.
wirless button is switched on. my mobile which is kept just beside laptop, getting connected with my wireless router, but laptop is telling "no wireless detected"
i tried to format and re installed OS, but the system colud not format because the recovery folder stored in hard disk has something missing.
recovery folder normally contains image file, how a single file can be missed from image file is also a mistery.
now do i have any other option left apart from using recovery disc?
using recovery disc will lead me a severe problem because i have created 2 other partition and saved alot of work on those partition, and recovery disc is going to remove the total (my created) partition and will bring the only partition given by manufacturer.

  • Satellite L300 & Windows Vista are not recognising Ipod

hi, i'm hoping you can help!!! I have been directed here by Microsoft & Apple - below is my issue and also Microsofts response:
i have an ipod nano 3rd gen, working off a near new laptop with windows vista. itunes is all set up, no issues with ipod at all but when i plug the ipod in, it only charges the ipod.
computer does not recognise the ipod at all, in windows or itunes. there is no portable device driver in the Device Manager or anywhere at all.
it is not the usb port as other usb's have been recognised. i've tried in all other usb ports as well. bottom line is that windows vista (and itunes) is not recognising the ipod at all.
i've been in touch with apple, with no avail. i've googled solutions only to find hundreds of other posts with exactly the same problem but no helpful solution. windows vista has no portable device port - how does one get this on their pc???
i've been at this for 4 days now and have uninstalled/reinstalled way too many times and i'm at wits end!! any advice (other than "have you tried another usb port" or "have you reset the ipod" or anything similar) would be much appreciated.
once again, there is no portable/ipod device drive located on this computer. please, i'm really hoping someone can help =)
    *Microsofts response:*
    Hi,
Step 1:Turn USB bus power back
If laptop is configured to conserve power by turning off power on the USB (Universal Serial Bus), it might not recognize a connected iPod.
To turn USB bus power back, you may follow the steps mentioned in the Apple link below
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1401
You stated Windows vista has no portable device port Normally, all portable devices are connected via a USB port and they appear under Universal Serial Bus controllers in the Device Manager.
    Step 2:Reinstall USB controllers.
First, please disconnect all USB devices and then perform the following steps:
    1. Click "Start", type in Device Manager the Search bar and press "Enter". Click Continue if necessary.
    2. In Device Manager, double click to expand "Universal Serial Bus controllers", right click on the "Host Controller", click "Uninstall" and click "OK".
    3. Repeat the step 2 to uninstall all items under "Universal Serial Bus controllers".
Then, restart your computer and windows will reinstall all USB controllers automatically.
    If the issue still persists,
*Step 3:Download and install the latest chipset drivers from the laptop manufacturers website.*
*So here I am with the issue still not resolved. *How do i Download and install the latest chipset drivers in order to have Toshiba Satellite L300 & Microsoft Vista recognise my ipod??*
    Many thanks in advance!

    > Step 3:Download and install the latest chipset drivers from the laptop manufacturers website.
    >*So here I am with the issue still not resolved. How do i Download and install the latest chipset drivers >in order to have Toshiba Satellite L300 & Microsoft Vista recognise my ipod?
Install an hardware diagnostic tool like Everest home Edit or similar.
This tool would provide all hardware details about your notebook.
It would list all devices and chipset name too.
I think its Intel chipset so you could find the driver on the Intel page

    Hi mate
First of all it seems that its not clear for you that this is a user to user forum

  • Windows vista locked in Shutdown mode loop.

After FF latest update when I put my Dell Laptop with Windows Vista as the Operating System, it failed to shut down and seems to be locked in the shutdown mode. It will not respond to "Ctrl, Alt, Del), any key stroke and has a full battery. I have left it unplugged and it continues to notify that Windows is shutting down but it has not done so in 12 hours. Your help would be appreciated.
    Thank you

The problem proved to be simple: we had only one ISAKMP policy (encryption: 3DES, hash: MD5) and it was o.k. with Windows XP. But in Windows Vista MD5 is removed. Though it's possible to get back MD5 by editing registry of operating system, we just added another ISAKMP policy with "Secure Hash Standard" istead of "Message Digest 5" as hash algorithm.

  • Satellite A300-20V - Not all Windows 7 drivers published?

There are some of Windows Vista HW drivers not published for Windows 7?
Does it mean the missing drivers are combined with other drivers...?
    OR
    It would be published later...?
    OR
Windoes vista HW drivers can be used also for windows 7...?

    Hi
The Satellite A300-20V belongs to the PSAGCE series and therefore already a lot of Windows 7 drivers released and also for 32bit and 64bit.
What drivers you are missing exactly?
And yes, you can use the Vista drivers on Windows 7. A lot of them also work.
On my Satellite A300 Windows 7 runs really good. I did get all drivers for it and it runs better then Vista in my opinion.

  • Satellite A300 cpu problem

Hi all, I have got a Satellite A300 running Vista 32-bit
I posted in this forum previously about my reboot loop problem
    (http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=77256&stqc=true)
I finally found that my laptop is fine when in safe mode, or when only running on battery
Once I plug in AC power the loop comes back, I saw in another post that disabling both processors in device manager can solve the problem, and it worked for me!
However I would like to do a factory restore since my OS is corrupted quite badly (probably due to virus?), lots of services cannot start and also no internet access
Problem is when I do factory recovery, the processor driver will probably get installed at some point then my laptop will go into the loop again and never able to finish the recovery?
I tried other OS like ubuntu but problem still exist so I am sure it is not OS problem.
So I would like to know:
    1. Whats the difference of CPU running mode in safe mode/battery only mode/AC power mode?
    2. What does the processor driver do? What happen when I disabled them?
    3. Any way to set the CPU mode in BIOS? (so I can keep the recovery process working) (I tried "dynamic/always low" and disable "multi core processing", no help)
I have been trying to fix my laptop for weeks, your help is much appreciated!

    > Problem is when I do factory recovery, the processor driver will probably get installed at some point then my laptop will go into the loop again and never able to finish the recovery?
I think this will always happen whether you install the system using recovery disk or clean MS disk.
    > 1. Whats the difference of CPU running mode in safe mode/battery only mode/AC power mode?
First of all if you run the notebook is safe mode, only some essential system processes would be load and many non-core components are disabled.
The CPU supports also different power saving modes (C1, C2, C3) in order to save energy
Each CPU has several power modes and they are collectively called C-states or C-modes.
    > 2. What does the processor driver do? What happen when I disabled them?
Its an essential system driver. Without the CPU driver, the system would not recognize the CPU properly and the CPU cores.
    > . Any way to set the CPU mode in BIOS? (so I can keep the recovery process working) (I tried "dynamic/always low" and disable "multi core processing", no help)
    No.
The CPU seems to be the troublemaker and i guess it needs to be replaced

  • Restart vs Shutdown booting into Windows Vista

Is anyone else having performance issues with bootcamp. Right now i'm on a MBP 2.2ghz model and I have this strange problem where if i restart out of OSX and boot into Vista i have a dramatic drop in performance (COD4 plays at about 10-20 FPS where if shutdown and load windows Vista i can run Call of Duty 4 at 90FPS.
I've been trying to find an answer for weeks?
I was also wondering, if you hold ALT when u click on the apple button in the menu bar, is there a difference between "restart..." and "restart"?

I have not noticed performance differences between restart and shutdown, but suggest you fire up Task Manger and look for CPU hogs or differences. Also, perhaps there's a problem with one of the Apple services when you reboot. You can check up on or [disable them|http://www.vistarewired.com/2007/02/18/services] to see if it helps with performance. Good luck. Sorry I couldn't be more help.
As for the ellipses after menu items, in just about every OS an ellipsis indicates that choosing that item will result in a dialog rather than immediate action. Holding option will remove the ellipsis, indicating that the action will be taken without confirmation.
    Cheers, Joel

I'm now facing a problem when i try to install windows xp on my pre- Windows Vista laptop operating system ..
A300 when i input windows xp disc and boot from cd/dvd .... there is an error tell me that : you have viruses on your hard disc or scan it from viruses , or something like that but i test the same OS disc into other pc and its working also i have Gdata IS 2012, and i think its restriction from toshiba or i dont know , but its very important to install windows xp ...
i hope you help how to install windows xp on my laptop .
    Regards
    John

    Hello John
It is not easy to understand the whole situation, especially this part with viruses.
In my opinion WXP installation should not be problematic.
What you need is WXP SP2 or SP3 disc and SATA driver. Without SATA driver HDD will not be visible for WXP.
More about that you can read on http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/ann.jspa?annID=38

  • Satellite A300-20P - Games with Windows 7 not working in full screen

I have Satellite A300-20P and VGA ATI 3650
I made upgrade to Windows 7 Professional
All games working well but not in full screen. I installed the last driver for ATI for Windows 7. It was working in full screen in Vista before I make upgrade.
Same problem on my brother`s laptop after he make upgrade to Windows 7.

    Hi
Normally you can change the screen resolution in every game and if they should run in full screen mode or not. Check this!!!
Can you also tell us what display driver you have installed? The drivers from the Toshiba page are for desktop cards and not for mobile cards. So please use only the Toshiba drivers.

  • When using facebook, Firefox locks up and nothing works except a hot shutdown on Windows Vista

About twice a week, usually, but not always, when using facebook, my screen locks up, no buttons or clicks on links work and I get a message in the Firefox title bar that says: "Firefox not responding". I'm running Windows Vista Home Premium on a Toshiba Satellite laptop and the only other window open is my email account on GoDaddy, but this happens even when that is not open. My hard drive LED begins glowing steady "on" when this occurs when usually it is flashing or not glowing at all. It frequently happens when changing facebook pages or trying to close facebook. Sometimes I get a "wait" hourglass, sometimes not. I have tried leaving the computer alone to let it sort out on it's own, and I have tried machine gun tapping on the "close" button. Either way the only resolution is a hot shutdown (hold down the computer power button until the computer shuts down) and wait a few minutes before reboot. On reboot, the same facebook page will open automatically and sometimes will lock up again when I try to close that window. On more rare occasions this lockup happens on sites other than facebook. My computer guru has looked at my setup and tells me my computer is fine and virus free. Since I'm a computer doof I don't know what he is talking about. Any ideas? Is there a difference between a "crash" and a "lockup" or do they mean the same thing?

The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information.

To Reset Firefox do the following:
#Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
