Satellite A300D-15B - Upgrade from Windows 7 32bit to 64bit?

I've added an extra 4GB of memory to my Satellite A300D-15B (PSAKCE). When I try to run the Windows 7 64bit upgrade it fails with a blue screen.
Is it possible to upgrade this model to 64 bit Windows 7?

Hi ronchennells,
Theoretically it should be possible to upgrade to Windows 7 64bit You can do/install everything what you want but the important point is drivers
On the official Toshiba website there are no Windows 7 64bit drivers but you can try the Vista 64bit drivers. Normally they are compatible
Generally speaking its not necessary to upgrade to 4GB RAM or more for using Windows 7 64bit. You can also use the 64bit version with 2GB only.
What happens if you start the upgrade with original memory module only?

  • How to deploy agent from windows 32bit to 64bit

    Hello,
I have installed oem grid on windows 2003 32bit. I have a few remote boxes that are 64 bit windows. How can I use oem grid on 32 bit to deploy agent on the remote 64 bit boxes? I can install agent on 64 bit boxes manually but I want to know how to deploy from 32 bit to 64 bit if possible? Thank you.

First, the bit version of the OEM OMS Host and the Target Agent Hosts is independent, i.e. you can have OMS on windows 32bit and have several 64bit target hosts, where you are running the 64bit agent.
Unless you have a lot of target hosts, I would recommend either manually installing the agents (mount a share with the installation files and run setup locally) or using the agentDownload.

  • Memory upgrade on Satellite A300D-15B

    Hi all,
I am having upgrading the ram on my laptop from 4gb to 8gb. First I will post the full details of my laptop then explain the problem.
    (Original Configuration)
    Satellite A300D-15B
    Model : PSAKCE
    Bios Ver: 3.30
AMD Turion X2 Ultra Dual-Core Mobile Processor ZM-86 (Upgraded from ZM-80)
Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium 32bit
    4096 MB (2048 +2048) PC2-6400 DDR RAM (800MHZ)
Right then, I installed Windows 7 32bit on it ages ago and upgraded the CPU and have never had any issues as i work with computers.
I did some checking and found out my Motherboard supports uo to 8gb of ram and decided to buy two 4gb ram modules. I made sure I got the correct ram for my laptop.
I upgraded the ram and it recognised it without any issue and even stated that 8gb of ram was installed under 'System'in contol panel and in the bios. As it was a 32bit OS it only utilised 3gb of the ram. I then decided to upgrade my OS to Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit and thats when the fun began.
Basically my laptop will not boot if I have more than 4gb of ram installed (In any configuration) and get a BSOD. I have had a few different Stop Error codes but I cant seem to find a solution. Also there arent any/many options to change in the bios so Im stumped.
I have tested the ram modules with Memtest several times without error and have also tried them in different laptops without issue. I know my laptop suppors the 8gb as I had no issues running the 32bit OS.
All my drivers and other software are to date and work fine and have installed all windows updates to date.
Has anyone else had this issue and is there a patch/fix available?
Any help, ideas or suggestions are welcome and hopefully I can sort this problem out. Many thanks in advance.
    Melchius

    Hi there,
The Ram I bought is the correct to the letter and is as follows:
    Komputerbay DDR2 PC2-6400 @ 800Mhz - 2 x4gb modules.
It has exactly the same Cas latency and timing settings aswell.
You mentioned that it booted fine in 32bit as it didnt address the full 8gb but now on the 64bit OS I have 1 x 4gb module installed and it is recognised without any issues,.
If the ram wasnt compatible in any way then I should be getting some errors or something to indicate a problem.
It also wouldnt boot/run properly with just 1 of the 4gb modules installed on either 32/64bit OS's, which isnt the case at all. I am certain that the ram itself isnt the issue.
I also tried installing 1 x 2gb and 1 x 4gb module for a total of 6gb and I managed to get windows to load (once) but it then stopped responding. Im not very keen on spending loads of money on another 8gb of ram from Kingston or Crucial if the same thing is going to happen, which I fully expect it will.
Thanks for the suggestions though, any other ideas?
    Melchius
Also worth mentioning that the ram that came with the laptop wasnt even Toshiba brand, it is Samsung ram so maybe they should make a list of all the compatible makes for their laptops or maybe not lock their bios's to the point that the end user is so limited.

  • Satellite A300D-15B - Switched off and charging issue

    Hi
I have a Satellite A300D-15B, running Windows 7 32bit, which bought quite recently used. I have encountered a couple of problems which I hope someone can help me with!
Firstly, the day I got the machine, it switched suddenly, but turned back on immediately and seemed to be ok. Afterwards, 3 weeks later (saturday 2nd July) I was installing some software when I got a virus warning from AGV, within a few moments the machine again turned off suddenly. Unfortuanetly this time it would not turn back on and the charge/AC supply lights would not come on. After doing some research I found that disconnecting the BIOS battery and dissipating the power enabled me to turn the machine on. Is there any known issues which could be causing this?
Secondly, once I had got the laptop to turn on after the sudden shutdown on staurday, I have found the charger still wont register as being plugged in unless i use the folling procedure.
    1) diconnect the mains fuse cable from the transformer block
    2) remove the battery
    3) plug in the DC jack
    4) reconnect the mains cable to the transformer which causes the mains light on the laptop to turn on.
    5) reconnect the battery
The laptop then charges normally, I am using it to write this post.
I have to use this process everytime the machine is unplugged from the the mains or charger, which is irritating and also a worry that there could be big problems on the horizon.
Any help would be hugely appreciated.
    cheers
    John

    Hi
I upgraded it to 7, the first time it shut down was the first time it was switched on after the recovery disc had been used. Could that be an out of date driver on original settings? Then upgrading to 7 giving similar problems?
I upgraded to 7 not a fresh install, which I never usually do.
The charger is a genuine unit not a 3rd party, I won't use them as I've had issues in the past. I'm just concerned it's a mainboard problem given the shutdown and subsequent strange charging behaviour. Do these have EEPROM's in the chargers and maybe clearing the CMOS has caused a recognition problem?
    Cheers
    J

  • Windows 7 32-bit Upgraded from Windows Vista

    Hello Everyone
I have a Satellite A500-15M, with a Windows 7 32-bit running on it which was upgraded from Windows Vista 32-bit by an upgrade DVD from Toshiba sent to me in January.
I need to have my Windows 7 as 64-bit instead of 32-bit. I have been searching on the internet about this matter, and I have discovered that I cannot do this unless I have a fresh copy of Windows, but the only disks that I have are the Windows Vista RECOVERY DVDs, and the Windows 7 Upgrade DVD.
Is it possible to have a fresh copy of Windows Vista 64-bit from my Revocery DVDs, then upgrade to Windows 7? Or do I need a Windows 64-Bit DVD?
    I really appreciate your cooperation.
    Kind Regards,
    Ala'

    Hello
According notebook specification your notebook was delivered with Vista 32bit and 64bit dual boot.
If you have created recovery discs it will be interesting to know how many DVD disc you have.
For instance on my Satellite A500-157 I have 4 DVD discs. With other words I have recovery discs for 32 and 64bit Vista. When you start first DVD you will be asked which version you want to install.
Please check if this works with your recovery discs too.
If you have this option install Vista 64bit on your notebook and later use upgrade DVD and try to upgrade it to Win7 64bit.
Please test it and let me know if this works for you.
Depending on your answer we will search next solution for you.

  • Satellite A300D-15B PSAKCE - USB message appears if BT is enabled

Sorry if I'm one of those annoying people who has been posted something that's already been posted.
A couple of weeks ago, my laptop a Satellite A300D-15B series (PSAKCE 00K0DEN) kept coming up with a msg - "USB DEVICE NOT RECOGNIZED" - when nothing was plugged into any of the USB ports (anything I subsequently plugged in any of them works fine).
Today, I was wanting to use bluetooth with my phone. The icon is red and blue as opposed to the white and blue combination it usually has when ready to send files. On opening the 'add new connection' menu, a msg popped up saying "Bluetooth not ready". On the options menu, running a diagnostics reveals this msg: "Check communication with Bluetooth device: Fail".
I disabled Bluetooth and noticed that I stopped getting the USB message too - and on enabling Bluetooth, the message would keep cropping up, indicating that there would be a link between them.
I am a complete technology noob and I have no idea how to fix this, or even grasp what the problem is to start with, and most internet sites that seem helpful also seem full of jargon I can't understand!
I really hope someone can help based on my minimal information, and thanks in advance.
    -Sub.

    Hi,
a possible fix maybe to uninstall all your USB devices in Device Manager (under Windows XP, I don't know the compartment name under other MS operating systems).
It helped me, when I was using a usb hub and switched the devices on it's ports very often. After some time, some of the devices stopped being recognized by the system and I got the "unrecognized device plugged in" message instead.
The uninstallation of the USB components also removes any profiles that Windows created for a particular device (at least that was the explanation that I've found somewhere in the Internet).
If this doesn't help (Windows should reinstall all the drivers after you -> restart your computer), try maybe to uninstall the BlueTooth devices the same way. Write if you have any progress / solution for/with the problem.

  • How To: Upgrading from Windows XP to Windows 7 pro

I upgrades from windows 7 home to windows 7 pro.
I could not use the anytime upgrade option, so I did a full install
I had a problem that I notice is common for many people, I came up missing drivers for my lan and wifi cards among others, I followed the advice given to others, and found chipset drivers and a few others, however, I had loaded some drivers already, so I am coming up missing the ntwork controler and the usb 2.0 crw. I am also missing the drivers for the camera, and special functions on the key board. I believe that the first step I need to take is to throw away some drivers and reinstall the chiipset drivers and others I have read recommended. However, I don't know what to throw out.

If you ask for help here, it's generally best to respond in less than a week to someone who's offered to help you. But, let's assume you were very tied up or away.
Regardless, your model's specifications clearly show that your system originally came with Windows 7 Home Premium, and that it came out in 2013. So, it's difficult to understand why you are upgrading from Windows XP to Windows 7. Oh, wait, I see your thread title says from Windows XP to Windows 7 pro, but in the text of your original post it says from Win7 Home to Win7 Pro. Again, this is a little confusing.
Regardless, as it's safe to assume you have already wiped out your Toshiba Recovery Partition in doing a clean install of Win 7 Pro. So, let's just try this. Download this Toshiba utility, double click to begin installation.

Please let us know what happens. Good luck.

  • Help needed upgrading from Windows 8 to XP for Conexant Sound Driver

I upgraded from Windows 8 to XP and got everything else working except for the sound. I have scoured the internet and tried many versions of drivers from windows 7 ones to XP ones with no success. I tried older driver´s version as well.  After a reboot there is no sound device loaded in the control panel for sound. I have a C845D-SP4327SL  model laptop. Does anyone have any process to make this work that is proven? Thanks

hi. if you want to that your sound device was in control panel after a reboot , here is only one solution for that, all you have to do is upgrade first  hdaudio bus controler. Driver must be copied first from computer with Vista os. if your xp is 32bit you have to copy this driver from any Vista x32 if  your xp is 64 bit then Vista must be x64 as well.  driver for forced upgrade through device menager you will find in any vista os  Windows--> System32-->DriverStore-->FileRepository-->hdaudbus.inf9689af2f
once copied that file from any computer equiped with Windows Vista , copy it on your desktop, next step go to the device menager  and find in system device tab 2 entries UUA High definition audio and update both by forced update. You have to point exactly where is located your driver copied from vista. after this update your sound device will be in the control panel and device manager always and permanent.
I had the same problem with my xp instaled on satelite p500 and only this solution solved my problem with disappearing sound device after reboot.
ps. if this solution help you please tell us about it.

  • Upgrading from windows vista to windows 7

I am upgrading from windows vista to windows 7. The upgrade I am using is going to delete all of the information I currently have on my hard drive.
I have itunes set up with all of the correct artist/album/track/cover image information for my files. I also have consolidated all of these tracks to an external hard drive - no mp3s in itunes are stored on my local hard drive. I consolidated these tracks after I edited all of the artist/album/track/cover image information.
My questions is this. Once I reinstall itunes on windows 7, when I import these tracks from the external hard drive - are the edits to the files (artist/album/track/cover image information) going to be shown in itunes like they were prior to the windows upgrade? I have a large number of tracks that I have invested a huge amount of time into and I really don't have the time or patience to duplicate the effort.
Does anyone have any thoughts on this?
Thanks in advance for the help.

  • Officejet 8620, fail to print, windows 8.1 (upgraded from windows 8)

I have spent many hours trying to resolve an issue on a Dell Vostro laptop, that was upgraded from Windows 8 pro to Windows 8.1 pro and has the latest updates installed. When printing, the print is delivered to the print spooler, it is there momentarily, then disappears. Nothing is delivered to the printer, and no activity is observed at all on the printer. This is on 2 different 8620 printers. I am able to install and print to a laserjet M1217mfp from the laptop with no problems. A different machine that was loaded directly with windows 8.1 prints perfectly to the 8620 printers.
I have tried the following  with no success:
    1) Install from original HP 8620 installation CD
    2) HP Print and scan doctor - remove the print driver and download latest software . ( 3 times)
    3) Manually deleting all printers, Stop spooler service, delete print driver from Print Server Properties, uninstall all HP software, reboot and install from latest print driver OJ8620-198 downloaded from this link: http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/COL51217/bi-124140-4/OJ8620_198.exe
    4) Same procedure as step 3, including stop spooler, rename C:\Windows\System32\spool\drivers\x64\3 to C:\Windows\System32\spool\drivers\x64\3.old. Reboot and install from latest driver as above.
    5) Run level 4 on HP Officejet Software and Driver Removal Utility from the link below and reinstall : http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?cc=za&lc=en&softwareitem=mp-110134-1
    6) Same procedure as step 4, as well as removing printer registry keys in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Environments\Windows x64\Print Processors except "winprint" key. Delete all HP folders in C:\Program Files\HP. Reboot and reinstall latest driver.
    7) Follow the manual procedure described in Microsoft KB2987964 "Cannot print by using a Hewlett Packard XPS-based print driver after you install KB2769165" http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2987964 Version of hpbxpsrender.dll is 0.3.7600.16385 consistently through all of the steps listed.
    9) Create a new local administrator account on the laptop. Follow the procedure in Step 6.
The issue seems to be that the spooler discards the print immediately and it also seems to be related to the upgrade from windows 8 to Windows 8.1 but only for Officejet Printers. The only option I have not tried yet is to format and reload the machine with Windows 8.1 Pro, but this is a drastic step to resolve a problem that should be resolved by HP based on the many reports posted on the Internet by users experiencing this issue on OfficeJet printers.
What can be done to resolve this?

    Hi @Electronza ,
Thank you for providing all the detailed steps you have already tried to resolve this issue. I would like to help you out today.
I have provided a document with some steps for the Print Jobs Disappear from the Print Queue and Do Not Print (Windows 8). Go to Step 4: Rename the HPBXPSRENDER.DLL file, since you have already tried the other steps.
Please take a look at this document from my co-worker, if the issue persists. The driver installed might be the Class Driver and not the HP Full Feature drivers. Missing or partial print issues on Windows 8 / 8.1.
Please provide in detail the results if you are still having issues.

  • Upgrade from Windows Home Server 2011

Even though Windows Server 2012 Essentials is being mentioned as a replacement for Windows Home Server 2011, there doesn't seem to be any documentation or mention of can you upgrade from Windows Home Server 2011 to Windows Server 2012 Essentials?
Will this work with the beta download and will we then be able to upgrade this version to the RC and/or release version?
As you may guess I have a Windows Home Server 2011 and am interested in looking at Windows Server 2012 Essentials to see what it offers me. The storage spaces sounds exactly what I want to replace the drive extender on the previous home server version. The
problem is that I don't mind sacrificing my present server box by installing the beta but it would be nice if it actually retained what settings it could via an upgrade option, which I could then have a chance of using with a proper release version.

Just clarifying about the 'upgrade path' and 32b vs 64b.
Yes, no in-place upgrade. However, one could theorise about some form of 'migration' being possible, where the list of users, the content of your shares, the current backups, would be 'moved' from old box to new.
I was in fact pretty sure no such process existed. (Wouldn't it be neat though? AND in future _at least theoretically_ possible, using processes similar to SBS AD migration.)
From this perspective putting the new box onto the network is similar to replacing WHSv1 with WHS11, in that nothing is carried over. No gain, but no lesser. Working on currently available information.
The later comment about the work laptop is, TTBOMK, a resounding 'NO'. When attempting to join a member of another AD the 'connect' process stated 'You must 1st remove the PC from the other AD'. I haven't tested this extensively but believe that PC's _capable_
of operating in an AD (Pro, vs Home, versions) will be made members of the WS12E AD. It is only PC's that do not have 'domain join' capability that are left in workgroup mode.
    TTBOMK, AFAICS, so far, etc...
