Satellite A305-S6825 - HDD light flickers sometimes

I have the Toshiba Satellite A305-S6825, which I bought back in April. 250GB and 3GB Ram.
I notiice sometimes when I am not working on it that the Hard Disk drive light is flickering for some quite some time. Is this normal?
I don't have any programs checked (I think) to do any automatic updating and/or scanning, etc.
Are there programs running in the Vista Premium without me using the actually working on the notebook?
I hope the notebook is not broken.
Alice
USA

The notebook is definitely not broken. The same happen with my two Toshiba laptops.
In the background many processes are active and it is possible that antivirus checks or scans the HDD.
Maybe some updates are installed at this moment. It can be anything.
Anyway, don't worry. Everything is OK.

Just purchased the A305-S6825 and wonder how I might be able to uninstall the Norton 360 (in it's entirety) that was installed when I purchased the unit.
    Can anyone help?

    Hi
You can uninstall the installed applications in control panel.
Open Programs and Features clicking on the Start button.
Then click Control Panel, click Programs, and then click Programs and Features.
Then select a program, and then click uninstall.
Furthermore you could use a free application called CCLeaner to clean the registry and Norton tracks.

    Hi
This is nothing unusual and normal.
The HDD LED blinks always because the HDD is active.
HDD is active if Windows system access the information stored on the HDD.
You should not be worried about this. Everything seems to be ok here

  • Satellite A305-S6825 - YouTube viewing full screen

Does the following have to be done everytime we turn on the Toshiba notebook (VistaPremium) and go into YouTube?
"Try adjusting this Flash Player setting. While the video is playing, right-click on it and click Settings. Uncheck the box for Enable hardware acceleration."
Also, when we do the foregoing to view the YouTube video in full screen, we notice that there is about a 1 inch (black) margin on left and right side of video. In our desktop (WinXPsp2) when we viewed the YouTube videos, they automatically played in full screen (no black margins on sides).

    Hi there,
already tried to update your display drivers, your adobe flash player and your brwoser?? Maybe you should do that since this helps mostly best then trying to uncheck/check some checkboxes and waiting for better times.
So heres some checklist which could help you:
    1. Update your existing browser or install another one (Mozilla Firefox, Opera, etc..)
    2. Update your existing display drivers to the newest version
    3. Update your operating system, check for bugfixes
    4. Update your adobe flashplayer (which is responsible for that youtube video stuff)
    5. Go to youtube and ask their support since this problem CANNOT be toshiba related...believe me :)
And if everything fails then come back and we will try to find some another way....

  • Re: Hard drive failing on my 1 year old Satellite A305-S6905

My hard drive is failing on my laptop [a Satellite A305-S6905] it was a year old Feb 11'th so no warranty, now i have to pay someone to put in a new HD, pay for the HD and pay them to put a new OS in it because they don't come with Operating System Disks anymore, a good I had already bought a Windows 7 disk, but wait, ...I can't use that, it's an upgrade, so now what am I gonna do?

    >and pay them to put a new OS in it because they don't come with Operating System Disks anymore
I think there was an option to create own recovery disk!
I think all info was placed in the user manual as I saw this also in user manual of the Toshiba European notebooks
The HDD can die due to different reasons in most cases its a matter of the time when a HDD would dieits a expendable part my HDD died after 5 year of usage in your case its just an bad luck
PS: in my country the TV, notebooks, computers, etc are covered by warranty for 2 years. Maybe you should ask your dealer for help
Otherwise the HDD replacement is not difficult the HDD bay is placed at the bottom of the unit and you can remove the HDD easily
    Bye

  • Win 8.1 - solid HDD light on a W530 when the optical drive is closed

    Hello,
I have a new W530 with Windows 8.1 on and a short time after boot or resume from standby, the HDD light will illuminate solidly (not flickering at all) with no disk activity to speak of showing in task manager.
I have tried the usual steps of disabling superfetch, search indexing, av, etc. and nothing helps.  The only thing that does influence the light is whether the optical drive is closed or not.  With the drive open, the light behaves normally and reflects the peaks of activity shown in task manager.  The light going solid coincides with Windows turning off the Optical drive after start up when Zero Power ODD is enabled (the light still goes solid after a few seconds with Zero Power ODD disabled so may be related to some energy saving mode?).
This behaivour is not exhibited in Windows 8, Ubuntu 14.04, FreeDOS or the Bios so does seem to be an oddity of 8.1 on the W530.  There appears to be no impact on performance of the system so it is more of an annoyance.
I am wondering if anyone else has come across this and/or has any suggestions as I don't fancy siutting with my optical drive open all the time...
    Relevant specs are below:
    Intel i7-3740QM
    8GB RAM
250GB Samsung 840 EVO mSATA SSD (OS drive & boot drive, hardware/eDrive encrypted with Bitlocker)
    500GB Hitachi Travelstar 7200RPM HDD
Nvidia Quadro K1000M 2GB (running in Optimus with Intel HD Graphics)
The laptop is configured with a static 1GB page file on the SSD and a static 36GB page file on the HDD.
    Solved!

Ok, a bit of progress... For some reason, The SATA controller had been set to Compatability in the Bios rather than AHCI. Doing a fresh build with AHCI enabled did not exhibit the solid light when the Lenovo Settings Dependency Package was installed
Restoring my system image and then going through the process of enabling AHCI after a windows 8.1 install has solved the issue.
So, lesson learned - AHCI is needed in this config unless a solid HDD light is wanted. Obviously this is a bug, what is the best way to report it to Lenovo officially?

  • Toshiba a305-s6825 automatic restart

I have problem with my laptop Toshiba a305-s6825. Laptop automaticaly restarts after few minutes. At first I thought that maybe the problem is with cooler, so I replaced it but nothing changed - still restarts after few minutes. Then I thought that maybe there is just some software causing problems. To be sure I removed whole partition (had just one) and tried to reinstall Windows on unformatted disk space. Unfortunately I cannot even install OS - laptop keeps restarting after few minutes - same problem all the time. I also tried to remove battery and keep it just on power cable but nothing changes.

Hi! I'm a little confused. Are you saying you removed the whole partition???Now you are trying to install a OS on a unformated disk space. What are you using to install the OS, and what OS XP,Vista, W7,W8, Linux??? You could still be over heating. You could have defective hardware. Your PC is not going to boot if you don't have a OS installed. Personally, I think you should take your PC to a place that services computers. You may get more replys here!

    What are question answers?
When a community member posts a question as a topic starter, other members can post an answer in reply. Please note that not all replies actually answer the question.
In some cases, an answer can be just some hints or helpful information to help the poster solve an issue. The originator of the topic can mark such a reply as a Helpful post. In other cases, a community member may post a specific answer that provides a solution to the original poster's issue. The originator can then mark this reply as a Solved post.
The original topic poster has the choice to mark replies as either Helpful or Solved, or not mark a reply at all. In addition, the originator can end the discussion by marking the topic as Answered, which provides a visual cue—a green star—to the community members. This lets everyone know that the topic contains valid helpful information.

Your profile says you have a mac pro with 10.6.8?  Why are we in the macbook pro forum?  At any rate, mac pro or macbook pro, if it isn't hardware that came with Lion you were supplied with installer dvds with the new machine.  And since you say you are using 10.6.8 I have to assume it didn't come with Lion (machines with Lion don't come with installer dvds).
What do you do now?  Not sure.  I guess you have to call apple or go to an apple store and ask them to supply you with replacement dvds for your model probably at some nominal cost.
So it would look like you are destined for a trip to a apple store anyhow so maybe while you are there getting those dvds let them try to fix your problem.
One last desperation thing you can try now is to try doing a smc and pram reset.  Then see if it will boot normally and if not see if you can boot in safe mode.

  • Cannot charge, cannot run w/o battery - Satellite A305 PSAGCG-S6898

    Hi, Friends,
    I have a similar problem:
    I have a Satellite A305 laptop (PSAGCG-S6898).
    Preface:
The laptop could be overheated sometime since it was used by my daughter before the problem occurred.
    Oberservations:
    1) The machine cannot run until the battery runs out.
2).The machine cannot run with AC adapter connection but without battery. (is this a norm problem?)
3).It seems that the battery (new or old) cannot be charged, but the battery LED is still orange color, since after charging several hours, I start
the computer and it automatically shuts off after several seconds when I press the power on button.
    My questions:
Where is the problem? the charger or the charging circuit into the chase?
Why the machine cannot run with AC adapter connection only (but without battery)? Many other laptops, such as Dell, they can run with AC adapter
    connection only.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated to: [email protected]
    Thanks.

    Hi
First of all it should be possible to use the notebook only connected to AC adaptor (without the battery). My two Toshiba notebook do this.
In my opinion youve got an hardware problem maybe its something wrong with power supply electronic on the mobo.
Fact is that your battery does not charge and you cannot run the notebook connected to main only
Therefore its smells like a hardware issue
In such case you should get in contact with an local ASP (service partner). The parts should be checked

  • Win 7 randomly freezes with HDD light on

I'm struggling with this for some time now. My win 7 x64 just freezes from time to time with HDD light on constantly. I've read almost all threads, tried almost every advise, but just could't solve the issue.
    I have win 7 Enterprise x64 + SP1 installed on PC:
    Intel Core2 Quad CPU Q8400 @2.66GHz
    Gigabyte P43-ES3G
    8GB RAM (4x2GB Kingston DDR2),
    2x1TB HDD (WD)
    NVIDIA FeForce 9500GT
Next, I'll list what I've already tried (without success) to not waste anybody's time - tried to change hardware, scan HDD for errors, set memory timings, reinstall win, scan for viruses, update all drivers, update BIOS.
(Maybe) important is that the same thing happens in safe mode. However, I've got no problems with other OSs like Linux or Win XP x64.

comibat & ddrouin: Usually when I run into situations like this, the presumption is that its a relatively new issue, meaning, you haven't have this problem from day 1 of computer
ownership.  Right?  So, the first thing is to examine what changed recently?  We should be considering things like, but not limited to, the following:
    Application installation or removal
    System configuration change
    Driver installation or removal
    Hardware installation or removal
    Windows updates
    Etc.
    comibat:
When you boot into Safe Mode (with & without networking; that could be key) & let it sit, for a while, does it seem to hang?
When you performed a clean boot & left it for a while, it also hung, correct?
Does it seem to matter whether or not your machine is connected to a network (wired or otherwise)?
If this something repeatable, like within an hour for instance, you may want to load up Resource Monitor & leave it in the foreground until it happens.  When it comes back to normal there should be some results for review.  (It may not update
while its in its hung state, but, when it 'comes back to life' it should show you throughput, usage etc and the process(es) associated with it.  Unfortunately, this may mean leaving the computer on for a while & not touching it.  (Unless
of course its unique to a sequence of events.)
You should consider loading up Performance Monitor as well and creating a counter.  Unfortunately, this is probably something you'll just have to let run until it happens, then make note of the date & time for review once it 'comes back to life'.
I would do some research on Performance Monitor & how to setup counters.  You could try this counter...
    Logman.exe create counter Perf-Counter-Log-1sec -o "c:\perflogs\PerfTest1sec.blg" -f bincirc -v mmddhhmm -max 500 -c "\LogicalDisk(*)\*" "\Memory\*" "\Network Interface(*)\*" "\Paging File(*)\*" "\PhysicalDisk(*)\*" "\Processor(*)\*" "\Process(*)\*" "\Server\*" "\System\*" -si 00:00:01
ddrouin: If you haven't already done so, you may want to consider starting your own thread.  (I haven't checked, just a suggestion incase you have not)  That said: In addition to the
above, is there any commonality between the three systems (the Lenovo, Asus & your friend's computer)?

  • Keyboard Light Flickering

I just got my MacBook Pro shipped back to me from apple repair, fixing my keyboard light. When turning on my keyboard light, I noticed that it flickers on and off for a couple of times, and then starts working. This seems to be affecting the auto brightness on my screen as it changes brightness in sync with the keyboard light flickers. I noticed that the right speaker area has some light leaked onto, and I'm thinking that the light leak is messing with the light sensors in the macbook. I recorded a video of it happening, but sorry about the quality, I recorded the video using my phone. I took a picture of the possible light leak on the right side speakers. You can only see the brighter parts, but i'll repost a better picture once i find my digital camera.

It's getting pretty ridiculous as to how many times I've been going to the apple store. If I have to go in again for this, it'll be my 3rd time there for the past 3 weeks regarding my macbook pro.
    Any help/advice/suggestions are appreciated! Thanks!
