Satellite A305D - Some FN keys are not working

Hello
2 days ago FN keys on my notebook ceased to funtion properly, some of them work, such as Fn+F1,F6,F7, but others do not, such as Fn+F4, also when I pushed the key it used to appear a menu of every key.
I had some others problems so I deactivate everything using msconfig, restart the system and then reactivate as it was, it seems the fn hotkeys did not reactivate properly.

In such cases you should try to reinstall the drivers and tools responsible for this function keys.
Did you do that?
The Satellite A305D seems to be longs to the Toshiba US series.
I know this because of the 5 at the end of the notebook model.
So visit the Toshiba US page and check the driver page:

  • Satellite M70: Control button keys are not working

    I currently reformatted my M70 to WinXp Pro Sp2, downloaded all related TOSHIBA drivers and related programs [ie. Toshiba control button driver / program] and system is running normal. However, CONTROL BUTTON keys are not working, was working fine with XP Home edition and Win Media but when I called Toshiba Support they couldn't help me because I had upgraded to Xp Pro. My Question is...Is there a fix or a solution to this issue and where can I download or find this fix.

    Thanks for the advice, however, I did download the control driver and the controls program for the M70 model AND installed them in that order. The Controls Driver installs correctly but unfortunately, when installing the Controls Program, I get a message that the program will not install because it's not the right version for my M70-CL3 [PSM73C]. Not sure what to do here. I would think that everything should work properly seeing as taking the step up to XPPro SP2 isn't that far of a stretch.

    I did a clean install, and i installed VAP, the keys are working but the first one is not, and the second one which is used for opening WMP is now used for turn on/of the illumination keys, all other are working normal. I tried reinstall the vap, with cleaning the registry and then reinstalling...but it was the same...

  • Dv6 2190us - some keyboard keys are not working

    Hi there all,
    My sis bought me Dv6 2190us laptop last Feb 2010 and I just got it now. The problem now is, some of the keys like the letters - W, S, and X are not working so I am not able to log-in to Window 7. The laptop is brandnew, the keys are not sticking but the only unusual thing is that , the battery was attached to the laptop for one year.... Couldnt this be the reason and what should I do to resolve this? Appreciate your kind help!

    also having this issue with 6 month old dv6 3031 but my entire line beginning with a to enter key will not respond so i cannot do any tests or what not. i was advised to do bios setup by clicking F10 when notebook is booting up, arrow across to Diagnostic menu and perform PRIMARY HARD DISK SELF TEST. of course i was unable to do this as my enter key does not work but maybe you could give it a go and have more luck

  • Some function keys are not working on my Portege R830

    Like others, I have a new Portege R830 and experienced the sudden unexplained loss of functionality of the 13 function keys. My os is a native windows 7 64bit install, with office 2010 installed afterwards. I have the SSD model.
    I followed the instructions, removing TVAP and re-installing, and I have both VAP and flashcards operational. I used the USA site drivers for the latest set (the Australian and European driver sets are older versions and different).
    Most, but not all, of the function keys are now working again. What isn't working are as follows:
    - F12 functionkey not operating
    - volume up and down keys not operating - what I am most interested in - any suggestions on how to get functional again please?
    also, on re-installing VAP, I lost functionality on ecobutton. Any suggestions on how to get working again?

    You are on the right way dude the VAP and Flash Card Support Utility controls the FN buttons. If you have an European notebook model, I would recommend using the drivers from Toshiba European driver page but generally speaking there should not be a difference in the software
    However, in my case restarting the Flash Cards helps to get back the FN buttons functionality. The Flash Cards can be found in All Programs -> Toshiba -> Flash Cards.
    So check if restart would help you.
    Regarding the Eco button: ECO Utility controls this button tooso would recommend installing/reinstalling this software beside the VAP

  • Satellite A300 The Touch keys are not working since I got it

    My sister bought this amazing laptop for me and since the date that I got it (5 months ago) , I was not able to use the touch keys on the top of the keypad. At first, I thought I was doing something wrong and that I needed to activate the, but I read the whole manual and I couldn't get an option to activate it. I am using Windows Xp professional with service pack 3. Please help me as soon as possible. I listen to music a lot while I work with my computer and it would save me a lot of time to get those buttons to work.

    Thanks for your replies but in this case, it is not the Touch pad the one that it is not working. They are the touch keys that are on the top of the keypad on the right of the power on button. They are 6 of them. One seems to me for muting or unmuting the sound, other four are the regular play/pause, rewind, stops and forward button ant the other one has like the drawing of a music note. Do you know how to make them work?

  • Satellite A300-1J1 - Some FN keys are not working

    My FN key seems to have half broken.
    When I press it usually the icons would appear on top of my screen now it doesnt and all the function keys like F1 F2 F3 etc work with the FN key except F4 which hibernates the computer, also the light turn on underneath F10 if that helps.
    Can someone tell me how to resolve this?

    What OS do you use?
    I doubt that this is a hardware issue because FN+F4 works and put the computer in hibernate mode.
    If you use Vista you should reinstall the Toshiba Value Added Package.
    If you use XP you should reinstall the Hotkey utilite.

    Recently I installed Windows 8.1 on my laptop (hp pavilion dv6 6115tx entertainment notebook) - lz801pa
    Then I installed Visual studio 2013. everything was working perfectly then.
    I guess when I changed keyboard option in visual studio to C# 2005, after that some of the keys stopped working.
    I also reset that option to default, but the issue is still there. 
    Down & right arrow keys, right arrow key of num pad, 1-5,8,9,0 keys in the first row(up above qwerty keys row) are not working. 
    I am able to press indivisually tab & alt, but alt+tab combination is not able to use for switching between windows/apps.
    Please help me.

  • Some Keys are not working on Lenovo G570

    Hello all
    I am new here, looking for some help regarding my Lenovo G570.
    Yesterday, it was working perfectly, I properly shut is down. I have set a BIOS pasword.
    Today, when I switch it on, I was unable to type the pasword becasu some keys were not working. However, I managed to loged in with the help of On Screen Keyboard. After analysing it, I came to know that some keys on numpad includeing 0,2 and on the 2nd line(vertical numerical keys) 1,2,3,4,7,8,9,0 are not working. I tried to re-install the OS but I set a BIOS paswoed containing one of the missing keys.
    Please let me know whether it is a software problem or should i take my laptop to some repairing shop?

    As per the query we understood that you are facing an issue with the keyboard in your Lenovo G570 laptop.
    As you have mentioned that the some keys are not working in your laptop, as you have also mentioned that the onscreen keyboard is working, please connect the external keyboard and check  for the issue, this is to confirm if the issue with the hardware or software.
    If the external keyboard works fine and if the keypad is not working then it’s a issue with the keypad of the laptop.

    I have HP pavilion notebook PC with product number F6C53PA#ACJ serial number [Personal Information Removed] BIOS F.34-10/31/2013 keyboard revision 29.34.
    Some keys in my keyboard are not working properly. I couldn't type < and > in microsoft office, on the websites etc.

    Hi,
    While this could be a hardware issue, it's always worth trying the following.
    Shut down the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter.
    Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to launch the Start-up Menu and then select f10 to enter the bios menu.  Press f5 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f9, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.  Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.

  • Lenovo Notebook Essential B570e2 some keys are not working

    hi can you please help me?  I have a Lenovo Notebook Essential B570e2 and its driving me crazy. it has got a bunch of problems but right now the most important problem is that some keys of the keyboard are not working. so im writing this all using on-screen keyboard, its very frustrating and annoying. the keyboard just started messing up all in a sudden a few hours ago. i dont think its because of dirt beneath the keys because yesterday i was watching a video online and typing on the keyboard at the same time. and the sound of the video would extend/freeze some times when i was pressing a key. not sure how to describe it. can someone please help me? thank you!

    I’m sorry to hear that the Keyboard keys are not working as expected in your B570 Laptop, below are the steps to check the issue in the computer:
    Remove the battery and any other peripheral device connected to the computer. Hold the power button for 10 seconds and then connect only the AC Adapter and try to turn ON the computer.
    Check if the issue is same in “Safe Mode” – Restart the computer keep tapping “F8” key before the Lenovo Logo appears and select “Safe Mode”.
    Also check if any external Keyboard is working as expected with the Laptop if it is working fine, the issue is Hardware related, I would Strongly Suggest Calling Technical Support for Assistance as the issue may be hardware related.   • Hello, how much did you pay when some parts of the keyboard keys are not working properly due to accidental spilt of tea?

    I accidentally spilt a tea on the keyboard of my Macbook Air 11'. I managed to wipe the keyboard and saved my laptop. However, I noticed that the Spacebar, Shift and Command keys are not working as it should be. It's like something's stuck inside that makes these keys hard to press as usual. I refered this problem to Amsys, Berwick St London, as the reservations in Apple Stores are full. Do you have any idea how much is the cost for diagnosis and repair if ever?

    it got inside, and will corode, and bad things will begin to happen.
    Liquid spills, why your MacBook chassis is a one-way valve for spills
    After a substantial spill many people will turn their notebook upside down and shake it, not only does this not work, but it spreads liquid havoc throughout your machine and makes things often as bad as possible.
    The keyboard itself acts like a one way valve in the case of a substantial liquid spill. While liquid pours into the bottom chassis easy, it does not come out easily at all, and in the case of any spill, most of it will not come out by turning it upside down. Disconnect all power and contact Apple for diagnostics and repair.
    Do not attempt to, after a spill, ‘dry out your MacBook’ and test it
    After a spill most people invariably try to “dry out” their notebook by various methods, including hair dryers and otherwise. This both does not work, and after a substantial spill of any magnitude, even if the liquid was water, residue is left behind.
    There are additionally many very tight places inside your notebook where liquids will linger for a very long time, and cause corrosion or worse.
    Immediately unplug your notebook and contact Apple for in shop diagnostics and parts replacement.
    In the case of very minor spills people will “dry out” their notebook and feel success that their notebook is working ok, however invariably in nearly all instances after 4-14 days an error / fault pops up and is usually followed by more.
    In case of a spill, damage estimates are impossible,.....anything can be fixed, without question.......the question is cost.
    contact Apple for in shop diagnostics and cost estimation ....possible parts replacement.
